Uncomfortably Dark Presents Full Throttle: A Dark Dozen Anthology.
Award-winning author and editor Candace Nola is back with another Dark Dozen Anthology. This time around, Full Throttle brings you twelve pedal to the metal stories of extreme, hardcore horror sure to knock your socks off! The turbo-charged line-up includes some of the hardest hitters in the industry, both well-known and rising stars of indie horror.
Authors include Wrath James White, Christine Morgan, Kristopher Rufty, Sylvester Barzey, Lisa Vasquez, Eric Butler, R.J. Joseph, M. Ennenbach, Jeremy Megargee, Felix I.D. Dimaro, Angelique Jordonna, and Lucas Milliron. With an introduction from Candace Nola and foreword by Jonathan Tripp.
These authors were given one guideline only: bring your most brutal stories with no depictions of sexual assault. They delivered in epic fashion!
This one is dedicated to the survivors. I see you.

Every single story in this anthology killed it! Brutally, savagely, emotionally, and beautifully! 🖤❤️🖤
It's titled Full Throttle for a reason, because it kicks off fast and hard and does not let up! The ToC is incredible and each author brought their A game!
My stand outs were Kristopher Rufty, Angelique Jordonna and Lucas Milliron.
I'll do as I normally do, and write a few words for each story, but there really is a very high standard here, and something for everyone.
GORY FANS by Kristopher Rufty…. What a great story to open with! This had me gritting my teeth from the very first sentence. Gory Fans....think Only Fans, but with a ton of gore, and so much more! And Damn does it escalate quickly! I felt every single brutal act! Desperation turns to obsession and sick satisfaction, and then onto addiction to the likes, fame, and money. When the special fx are all too real… how far would you go?
SUTURES by Felix I.D. Dimaro.... A man with no real understanding of right and wrong, grieving, and angry. A man seeking retribution. Deeply, darkly and psychologically disturbing, yet also chilling and satisfying.
BEAUTIFULLY GROTESQUE by Angelique Jordonna.... Full of sexy, poetic prose. Beauty is on the inside, the beauty some people have on the outside doesn't go all the way to their hearts, their souls, and sometimes they need to be made aware of that fact, shown the true meaning of beauty, have it brought out from within.. A story of acceptance, kindness, and inner beauty, in the goriest of ways…
HOUSE OF HURT by Jeremy Megargee.... The seductive narrative of this story will have you holding your breath whilst your heart races out of control. It's a tale of passion, pain, addiction, desire and unrequited love.. of rage and hurt and betrayal. Oh, and Mr Feral 🥵
SLIZZARD OF OZ by Lisa Vasquez.... A fun retelling of Oz, with a bizarre, creepy, sinister and nightmarish twist. Like a bad trip. My kind of fairy tale.
AND SHE WAS MADE OF GLASS by Lucas Milliron.... A truly chilling look at the horrors of the modern world, and a genius act of revenge. This is written so beautifully, it got right inside my head, and I have a feeling it'll be remembered often. It's bleak and emotional and it did not go where I expected it to! I don't think I breathed while reading this... amazing! Best thing I've read by Lucas! 🖤
INHERITANCE by RJ Joseph.... Aspirations, desires and dark family secrets. And a melting desire for vengeance… Fast paced, gory goodness, that teases you along and keeps you guessing the whole time.
THE BARGAIN by Eric Butler… A haunting tale of promises made and the dark consequences they bring. A deeply chilling monstrous, wilderness horror that'll grab you by the horns. Full of twists and turns, gripping and brutal.
THE FLAVOR OF DEATH by Sylvester Barzey... An emotional story of grief and torture filled retribution. Fast paced action, with soul!
A TALE OVER THREE COURSES by Mike Ennenbach... Mike Ennenbach wrote this, that's all you need to know! 💜 OK, OK, ….it was like if Banksy and Heston Blumenthal had a weird, fucked up, creepy baby, and then Hannibal Lector turns up to dish out some brutal punishment parading as Jigsaw from the Saw movies! Yes, all that and so much more. It's beautifully written, deep, dark and brooding.
EXECUTIVE DECISION by Christine Morgan... Christine manages to build your hatred for a lot of the characters in this story right from the off, making the ending all the more satisfying. The fun vibe lulls you in, and the air of mystery throughout keeps you rapt with attention. From zero to insane at top speed (or Full Throttle you might say!) This was a lot of fun.
ESCAPE by Wrath James White... Wrath's narrative is instantly chilling in its vividness. You can hear, see, smell and feel everything, drawing you right in amongst the horrors and holding you completely captive throughout. This is a fast paced, and terrifying tale of survival.
I usually individually review each story when it comes to anthologies but this collection didn't impress me much. This was a good anthology it just wasn't my favorite or as enjoyable for me personally as previous antho's that I've read from Uncomfortably Dark.
The stories that stood out to me the most were Gory Fans, Sutures, Slizzard of Oz, Three Courses, and Escape. 5 out of 12 isn't too shabby. It's always a gamble whenever it comes to anthologies for me. I'm just picky about what I read. Just because I didn't enjoy every story doesn't mean other readers won't.
When I was about halfway through this book, I thought it was a really good anthology. when I hit the story about the Wizard of Oz, however, it turned from a good anthology into a great anthology. The second half of this book was truly phenomenal and I enjoyed every single story.
The first story, "Gory Fans," is an absolute treasure and an incredible story. As I read the rest of them, I was hoping to reach that same height. "Inheritance" came close, but didnt have quite the same wow factor. "Three Courses" was another one that was just on the cusp of being amazing.
Overall, it was an enjoyable ride and one I dont regret taking. $3 (on Godless.com) for a book that was entertaining and took me about 3 hours to finish? Yeah, I'd say it was worth it.
Disgustingly beautiful? Or would it be beautifully vile?
Either way this collection will sure test all your boundaries & scare you to the bone, making you wish that you didn’t have eyes while still enjoying it.
I will always grab the amazing anthologies put out by Uncomfortably Dark Publishing every year. They are beautiful and packed with fantastic stories from some of my favorite authors. The latest antho from UD, Full Throttle, is special. This one is extreme, very extreme. However, this one is specifically extreme without relying on SA. That's right, there is no SA whatsoever in any of these stories. So, for those of us who love the gore, and the hardcore terror of extreme horror, but could do without every story including that type of abuse, this book is for us!
So, as usual, trigger warnings for gore, violence, and in-your-face terror. But, you don't have to worry about SA with this one. It's like a breath of fresh air. Candace is picky when it comes to what she includes in these anthologies, so you can trust that every story is a winner. Here are a few of my favorites...
Beautifully Grotesque by Angelique Jordonna- Tale of a psychotic artist obsessed with filling her life with beauty.
Slizzard of Oz by Lisa Vasquez- A trippy, nasty, and brutal Oz retelling. This ain't Wicked, that's for sure!!
A Tale Over Three Courses by Mike Ennenbach- A reporter gets an exclusive invite to interview a mysterious chef while being served an amazing meal. This story made me hungry, until it didn't.
Inheritance by R.J. Joseph- A young woman yearns for more than her small-town life has to offer. This was so beautifully written, I could see it being the prequel to a spectacular series.
Highly recommend, especially if you're a SA survivor and enjoy your extreme horror without that particular trigger.
