The canonical gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, provide not only Jesus' works but also his actions, the context within which the words are spoken. By presenting Jesus' words without those intervening stories, we can experience Jesus' teachings in a way that is fresh and immediate.
The first sections were interesting studies in the editor; why and how certain sayings were selected and grouped.
I really loved the third section, which pieced together the four gospels chronologically. It was a brilliant reminder that the gospels are accounts from different witnesses. I enjoyed reading the same event from two or more gospels in rapid succession, as it highlighted the lack of collusion between witnesses; though extremely similar, the accounts were not identical, and lent further credibility to the gospels.
