Angel of Blades by MG Digby is an opposites-attract romance between a golden retriever and a self-isolated black cat. The story is a little sci-fi/superhero adjacent, with Tatum's business being robotics and she wears a battle suit. Kind of reminds me of Tony Stark, only not so arrogant.
What I liked about it:
• The main characters are endearing, and I think they are both adorable. Harlowe is upbeat and silly. She makes me laugh. The brooding Tatum is strong but vulnerable, sweet, and protective.
•The descriptions are good. I enjoy how Harlowe sees Tatum and her surroundings.
•Mental health rep.
•The mains are sweet together.
•I have always been a fan of small-town settings.
•Canada locale.
•Steamy scenes.
•We have a happy ever after.
What I didn't like:
•Caricature of a villain. One-dimensional, and not very interesting.
•I'm not sure that I bought Tatum's Tony Stark inventor persona.
•They made the U-Haul joke, but they really did U-Haul it. Harlowe is immediately infatuated, and it is a bit odd for as closed off as Tatum is for her to let Harlowe in so quickly.
•Tatum's past trauma is very vague but clearly very important.
•The pacing was very slow for me, and I never felt emotionally invested in the characters.
•I think that the characters needed more depth.
I wanted to like this more than I did. It just didn't hit right for me, but I wouldn't say not to give it a go. It might be your next favorite book.

Wonderful romance
What a delightful surprise! The beginning immediately drew me in—it’s intriguing, well-paced, and sets up the story and characters in such an engaging way. Right from the start, I could tell I was in for a good time.
One of the things I loved about this book was the humor! It gave the story a lively, warm feel and made me smile more than once. The chemistry between the main characters was spot on—so natural and full of spark, it made their journey even more enjoyable to follow.
That said, it’s not all light and fluffy—there are some harder, more emotional themes woven into the story too. But the author handles them with such care and strikes a perfect balance between the heavy and the humorous. It made the emotional moments hit even harder, while still keeping the overall tone hopeful and uplifting.
The writing is dynamic and flows effortlessly. I felt completely immersed, happily flipping through the pages, not wanting to put it down. The author leads us through the story so masterfully, striking that perfect rhythm between depth and joy.
When I read the blurb, I thought it sounded like something I'd enjoy, and I was right. This book delivered exactly what I was hoping for—and then some. Ms. Digby is a new-to-me author, but after such a joyful reading experience, I’ll be looking out for more of her work!
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a feel-good, emotionally rich, and engaging read with lovable characters and fantastic writing.

Mildred Digby's novels always seem to feature polar opposites, and Angel of Blades is no exception. Harlowe, young, perky--I can't believe I actually used that word, but that best describes her--is on her first job, selling newspaper subscriptions. (Do people read newspapers, anymore?)
She visits the home of Tatum, someone older, silent, brooding, the very thing Harlowe is not. Over time, they begin to trust each other, and, of course, there are those spicy scenes which I won't go into. Suffice it to say they're spicy.
What I liked most about this novel is the steady pace--I hate novels that drag--as well as the contrast in characters. Ms. Digby has done her research, there are the clever double entendres (which I also won't get into) and the honesty about two women who find they've got a lot more in common than they think.
If you like sapphic romances, you'll like this. Even if you're not into sapphic romance, this is a solid read.

Angel of Blades is an interesting and highly unique romance. The main characters, Harlowe and Tatum, seem to be complete opposites as well as totally incompatible. But that’s just the beginning of their relationship. Harlowe is curious about the sober, silent Tatum, and is highly attracted to her physically. This is a sweet romance with some highly spicy scenes. No spoilers here, folks. Their attraction becomes fully mutual. You’ll have to buy the book and it’s well worth it. There’s also some angst to be overcome, and they weather the bumps in their road with dignity. Harlowe is a whirlwind of girly energy and she pulls tall butch Tatum out of her shell. The progress of their relationship is quite satisfying and spicy as mentioned earlier.

This book has little of everything in it. Age gap, a bully, a brilliant recluse, and a young woman trying to make a break into a reporter.
All the characters are strong, but the story centers around Harlowe and Tatum. Tatum is retired military, is brilliant with her electronics and yet for reasons not initially disclosed, locks herself away in what appears to be a dark concrete bunker away from everyone.
Harlowe, on the other hand, is outgoing and takes an interest in Tatum and tries to interact with her. Of course, she sees something in her, and she wants to get to know better.
The book moved along at a great pace and was enjoyable and partly eccentric in some respects, but it was a great read!
