Dear Reader, have you ever wondered what happened after Pemberley?
Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson Twenty-year-old Kitty Bennet, visiting London for a season as a companion to Mrs. Gordon, is simultaneously attracted and repelled by a flirty rake. How would a girl like Kitty respond to his roughish behavior? Impossible to tell when she doesn't even understand herself. She must use their time together to practice being someone else. She's sure when she decides which of her sisters' personalities is the best fit, she'll know both who she is and what she wants. Of course, what she wants couldn't possibly be Augustus Haverford. Not with that wicked smile and that tendency to say scandalous things. Can Kitty convince herself he's all wrong for her? Or does fate have something altogether more romantic in mind?
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings Sixteen years since her own elopement, widow Lydia Wickham saves a young woman from running away with a scoundrel. In gratitude the father, Viscount Kingston, offers Lydia a position as chaperone. Childless and estranged from her sisters, Lydia eagerly accepts. Little did Lord Kingston or his daughter the honorable Chloe know how Lydia would shake up their dull, scholarly existence and turn their trio into a family.
The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie Shrouded by his military facade and careful in love as the younger son of an Earl, Colonel Fitzwilliam has yet to find his soul-mate. When he's tasked to watch over Georgiana Darcy and her new companion—a striking young widow named Clara—he's instantly drawn in, even if he did make a muck of their first meeting. But Clara has a difficult past and a complicated future, and it will be up to the Colonel to show her that no matter how insurmountable the obstacles, hearts can open...if she's willing to take a chance on him.

I loved this anthology! Each story pulled me in from the very first page, and I couldn’t stop reading until I discovered how it all ended!
Playing Miss Bennet: If you're a fan of the fake relationship trope, this one's a must-read! Augustus enlists Kitty to pose as his partner for upcoming social events to ward off the matchmaking mothers trying to marry off their daughters. Meanwhile, Kitty is on her own journey of self-discovery, trying on her sisters' personalities to find her own identity. The result? Augustus gets to experience every version of Kitty... and its hilarious! Though Kitty is certain Augustus isn’t the marrying type, she begins to see through his charming facade, and he, in turn, is captivated by the genuine Kitty. This story was simply wonderful. And the kisses? Chef’s kiss!
Favorite scene: Kisses in the rain. 🌧
Sisters and Second Chances: If second chances are your favorite trope, this one is for you. Lydia gets a second shot at love, and it’s one you won’t want to miss. After rescuing Chloe from an unwanted engagement, Lydia is hired by Chloe’s father as her chaperone for the season. As Lydia and Chloe’s father spend more time together... the sparks begin to fly, and the chemistry is undeniable!
Favorite scenes:Romantic nighttime walks on the beach. 🏖
The Colonel’s Conviction: Colonel Fitzwilliam (Benj) is charged with supervising his niece and her new chaperone, Clara. After being widowed and left in debt, Clara takes this job in hopes of gaining financial independence. She's closed herself off emotionally after a loveless marriage, seeing relationships only as practical arrangements. But being in constant proximity to the kind, patient Benj begins to soften her heart. Could he be the one to make her believe in love? This was such a fun read, and their first meeting? Absolutely hilarious!
Favorite scene: Their hilarious first encounter... Yuck.. 🐟
I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.
If you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice, you will enjoy this collection! It includes 3 great stories starring Kitty Bennet, Lydia Bennet-Wickem and Colonel Fitzwilliam.
-Kitty meets Augustus, who says the most scandalous things to get a reaction and to try to get out of being married. Kitty and Augustus make an arrangement to be seen together. But Kitty chooses this moment to try to figure out who she is as a person. And does so by taking on her sisters’ personalities to see which one suits her best. Which of course confuses Augustus. She discovers being herself is the best of course and I loved how Kitty and Augustus get together. Content: some mild innuendos
-The second story takes place 16 years after Lydia married Wickem, and she is now a widow. She meets Viscount Kingston, who is a widower, and his daughter Chloe. She saves Chloe from making the same mistake she did and the Viscount offers her a position as Chloe’s chaperone. While Lydia, does a good job as Chaperone, Lydia and the Viscount have a romantic connection. I thought this story was a cute second chance for Lydia and thought they were cute together. Content: kisses, brief mention of tongue
-The last story has Colonel Fitzwilliam helping Clara, a widow, with Georgiana Darcy find a match as well as looking after her. I loved Fitzwilliam and Clara’s interactions! They were so cute and funny. I loved watching them fall in love.
Overall this was a cute collection of stories and I recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I love this collection. If you're a fan of Pride and Prejudice and enjoy stories that follow these characters after P&P ends, you'll love these clever and delightful stories. They made me pause and rethink some of the characters who aren't necessarily reader's favorites. Especially when we don't see their full story and character development. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all three novellas!
~Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson~5* Kitty was such a delight. I loved her desire to figure out who she is aside from all of her sisters, especially when she is away from them and gets to have the spotlight. Well, kind of gets the spotlight, as much as one can when they are a companion to an older matron. Kitty finds herself being introduced to her matron's friend's son, Augustus Haverford. They come to an agreement that will benefit them both and Kitty decides to practice being each of her sisters' personalities to see if that who more of who she is. Great coming of age type story. It was well written. I loved watching Kitty come to the realization that being herself and not anyone else was perfect for her and what made her happiest. Funny and witty banter, sweet and swoony moments! Definitely a fun read!
Content: Clean. Nothing more than a few sweet kisses.
~Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings~5*~ Ah, the scandalous Lydia Bennet Wickham! She's loud and boisterous and according to her father, "One of the silliest girls..." Admittedly, she's not my favorite Bennet sister by any means. But, in this novella, I loved seeing her from her perspective and not from her more steadfast and demure sisters' perspectives. Lydia made a mistake in her choice of who to marry, but at the time she didn't quite realize how it would all turn out. Now she's lived many years and experienced heartache and struggles, but also finding joy and fulfillment in her life's path. I loved watching her show her growth and goodness through helping a young debutante and her father, becoming friends with them, and showing them the beauty and joys of life. This novella definitely changed my thoughts and perspectives of Lydia. Although, when I watch or read the original Pride & Prejudice, she'll still be a silly girl to me, but all characters can have redemption and hope!
Content: Clean. Some kisses.
~The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie~5*~ This novella opens up in a pretty funny meet-cute, or not-meet-cute, depending on how you look at it. Haha! I gasped and giggled. And loved how the story evolved from there. A sweet meeting and first introduction of these characters' character. I loved watching how Clara was very careful and reserved due to her past and struggles. Then watching her as she was trying to find hope and joy in her life and saving the things that were important to her father. She and Colonel Fitzwilliam were fun to watch skirt around each other and their growing feelings. The uncertainties and hope for more was sweet and swoony. I just adored Fitzwilliam's character. You'll want to devour it and see what happy ending there is in store for these two. I wish it didn't have to end.
Content: Clean. Sweet and swoony.
I love that all of the novellas in these Timeless Regency(Romance) Collections are always clean. I never have to wonder about content when picking them up!
I received a copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
As an avid Pride and Prejudice fan, this collection was perfect to deliver the stories of several secondary characters after their time at Pemberley.
In the first story, Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson, Kitty is in London as a lady’s companion and finds herself both captivated and repulsed by Augustus, a flattering rake. Having been surrounded by so many sisters all of her life, Kitty really doesn’t know who she is and plays the part of each sister as she encounters Augustus. My heart went out to her as I watched her struggle to discover who SHE is. It was truly endearing to watch each of their masks drop as they learned some valuable lessons.
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings is everything I hoped it would be. Younger Lydia was so impulsive and now that she’s a widow, she has a second chance to make a difference when she rescues a girl with a fate similar to her own. It was thrilling to see her all grown up, yet she still has that sparkle that makes her fun and lovable. Finding redemption by helping a persuadable young girl choose a path different from the one she walked filled my heart. The love and affirmations Lydia always seemed so desperate for was realized, and this whole story made me see Lydia as more than just a silly girl.
The final story gives us The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie. Darcy’s cousin, Colonel Benjamin Fitzwilliam, falls hard for Georgiana’s companion, Clara. I loved that we were treated to so many cameos of Georgiana and really got to know Benj. The meet-cute is so sweet and funny and there is a lot of fun banter in this story. I adored Benj and his delightful charm and watching Clara learn to open herself up again.
Each story is short and sweet, but fulfills a satisfaction in knowing more about these characters. This is perfect for any Jane Austen fan.
Content: mild romance

Have you ever wished for more stories about the side characters from Pride and Prejudice? Beyond Pemberley delivers three charming novellas that give Kitty Bennet, Lydia Wickham, and Colonel Fitzwilliam their happily ever afters.
Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson follows Kitty Bennet, who is now the companion to an older woman, where she meets the "rakish" Augustus Haverford on one of their daily walks. Stepping out of the shadows of her older sisters and into London society, Kitty is unsure who she really is and hoping to find her own identity, she decides to "try on" different personalities based on her sisters. Augustus has a talent for getting under her skin but he's also confused by Kitty's changing personalities. Their banter is a lot of fun, and you can feel the chemistry between them from the start. Kitty’s journey of figuring out who she is is relatable and sweet, but you might find yourself falling for Augustus along with Kitty.
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings gives us an older and wiser Lydia Wickham. Sixteen years after her scandalous elopement, she steps in to stop another young woman from making the same mistake. As a thank you, Lydia’s offered a position as a chaperone, and she quickly brings a bit of life and sparkle into the very proper world of Viscount Kingston and his daughter, Chloe. I loved the found-family dynamic that develops between Lydia, Lord Kingston, and his daughter Chloe; it gives depth to Lydia’s character that was unexpected.
The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie focuses on Darcy's cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam. When he’s assigned to watch over Georgiana Darcy during her first season, sparks fly with her new companion, Clara, a widowed mother with a painful past. Their initial clash turns into mutual respect and a slow-burn romance. Fitzwilliam is patient and steadfast, and Clara’s cautiousness makes sense given her background. This grumpy/sunshine romance has a funny meet-cute.
If you're a P&P fan you'll enjoy all of these novellas. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
Timeless Collections are some of my favorites, and I was excited to read this Regency Collection of stories about the characters from Pride and Prejudice.
Now that Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are happily married, this collection explores the lives of some minor characters, giving them their own stories to tell.
The first story, Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson, follows Kitty as she leaves home to be a companion to Mrs. Gordon. Kitty struggles to find her true self and tries to imitate her sisters. Humor runs with her trying out each sister's personality while getting to know Augustus Haverford. In the end, she learns that being herself is the best way to catch the man she desires.
The second story, Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings, centers on Lydia Bennet Wickham, now older and wiser after becoming a widow. She ends up saving a young girl from making the same mistakes she once made. This act surprises Lydia and brings love into her life in a way she never expected.
The third story, The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie, features Mr. Darcy's younger sister, Georgiana, her friend Widow Clara, and Colonel Benjamin Fitzwilliam. Secrets and surprises unfold as Clara and Benjamin grow closer. It was nice to see more of the Colonel’s search for happiness.
This collection offers charming, romantic stories that fans of Pride and Prejudice will enjoy. It broadens the world of the Bennet family in a fun and sweet way.
Kitty is on a journey to discover which of her sisters she is. A charming and hilarious meet-cute happens between her and Augustus. Then they become fast friends which turns to more. This novella was just simply delightful! I loved every second of it! And I loved the message of being YOU, and not someone else.

Lydia's story comes after she has matured and lost Mr. Wickham to death. She has passed her mourning period and meets Thomas in quite a remarkable way. I loved that she helps take care of and befriends Chloe, a 18-year-old young woman who has just entered society and in need of a companion, which role Lydia fills. I loved that Lydia imparts the knowledge that she has gained in the last 16 years to Chloe. This story was unexpectedly beautiful, and I loved that Lydia got a second chance at a good life. This story follows Clara and Colonel Fitzwilliam. Clara becomes a companion to Georgiana Darcy, and Colonel Fitzwilliam is her cousin and she is partly his charge. It was fun to see Fitzwilliam get his happily ever after. I loved the disastrous meet cute, going to see the mummy, their banter and chemistry. Feeding the ducks was also a favorite scene of mine!

I really enjoyed this collection of what-if stories from Pride and Prejudice. I definitely recommend being somewhat familiar with the story of Pride and Prejudice, either reading the book and/or watching the BBC version with Colin Firth, just to get the full scope of the story and interaction of the side characters. I highly recommend this fantastic, swoony collection of Regency era stories, especially with it being the 250th birthday of Jane Austen.
The audio done by Grace Noble is probably one of the best Regency audiobooks I've listened to (and I've listened to a lot!). She gave great diction and pronunciation, all with a lovely English accent.
Thank you to the Author and publisher for the audio review copy. All thoughts are my own.
A great collection The three stories in this collection will each draw you in and hold you. Each will have you thinking just one more chapter. The first is Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson. It is the story of Kitty Bennet arriving in London as a companion and realizing that she is not sure who she is. Each of her sisters has a defining characteristic but she seems to have none, so she decides to try each sister’s main characteristic as her own while spending time with Mr. Haverfords with interesting consequences. The second, Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings, finds Lydia Bennet Wickham, a widow, seeing an elopement going awry. The young lady, Chloe, had changed her mind and the man was determined. Having spent years around soldiers, Lydia know how to intervene rescuing Chloe and leading to her becoming Chloe’s chaperone and leading to surprises for all. The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah McConkie is the third. This story finds Clara, a widow, on her way to chaperone Georgiana, Darcy’s sister. When Darcy also asks Benj, Colonel Benjamin Fitzwilliam, to watch over both Clara and Georgiana he is determined to do an admirable job. Soon he finds himself drawn to Clara but she has secrets that she dares not share. A truly enjoyable book. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
The Brief: Kitty, Lydia, and Colonel Fitzwilliam get a chance at love beyond what we know of Pemberley.
The Debrief: This anthology is a fun peek into characters who get an opportunity to find their own love story. I listened to the audio and it was SO well done. Delightful and witty with all the regency feels. Brought all the vibes I expected from the movies while still staying true to my original thoughts.
1️⃣ Playing Miss Bennett by @beccawilhite
Kitty feels a bit lost and acts as her sisters to see if she can find her true self. Enter a rake. Or is he? When she pretends to be each of her sisters it’s hilariously spot on. I see you Kitty! Loved.
2️⃣ Sisters and Second Chances by @samanthahastingsauthor
Lydia did not get the happily ever after with Wickham like she thought and now struggles just making ends meet. I especially liked this full arc story that brought a deeper glimpse to an older Lydia. So many heart sighs at the wonderful ending.
3️⃣ The Colonel’s Conviction by @sarahlmcconkie
Fitzwilliam has always been a favorite of mine so I needed more of his story. I’ve read another beyond like story and enjoyed it so I was totally onboard for this one. The author does a great job bringing just the right person in his life and an annoying brother as well. Great ending!
The Rhyme: So many lovely characters that had more life to live off the page. Find out how hearts are touched when beloved characters step off the stage.
Highly recommend especially to Pride and Prejudice fans. Kissing only.
Review Below 𝓟𝓵𝓪𝔂𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓜𝓲𝓼𝓼 𝓑𝓮𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓽𝓽 𝓑𝔂 Rebecca Anderson /Becca Wilhite The London season was absolutely delightful. What I appreciated most was that neither character was actively seeking love. Their relationship began playfully, reminiscent of a Roos, and Kitty’s experimentation with the personalities of her Bennett sisters added a hilarious twist. Their chemistry was undeniable. He cleverly disguised himself as a rake to evade marriage, while she thrived as a lady's companion with a passion for the London theater. I particularly cherished their romantic walk in the rain. Overall, this story was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Story 2 𝓢𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓼 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓢𝓮𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓭 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓼 𝓑𝔂 Samantha Hastings
Lydia Bennet Wickham is vibrant and full of energy. Lord Kingston exemplifies a loving and dependable character. I truly cherished my experience; the cleanliness of the environment was commendable. The theme of embracing one's authentic self resonated with me. Learning about the fossils was a delightful surprise. The seaside setting added to the charm, and I enjoyed the tranquility of walks along the beach and swimming. I admire how much light and joy she brings to everyone around her.
Story 3 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓒𝓸𝓵𝓸𝓷𝓮𝓵 '𝓼 𝓒𝓸𝓷𝓿𝓲𝓬𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓑𝔂 Sarah L. McConkie. Clara and Colonel Fitzwilliam Let’s dive into the delightful world of awkward meet-cutes! Imagine two people, unknowingly headed to the same destination, crossing paths most unexpectedly and charmingly. There’s a sprinkle of matchmaking magic and just the right amount of intrigue to captivate you.
Now, let’s talk about the book itself—it’s truly a gem! The pages are adorned with stunning illustrations that bring the story to life, and the beautifully crafted text feels like a treasure to hold in your hands. I can't recommend it enough; treating yourself to a copy is necessary! It’s a quick read that perfectly fits into even the busiest of schedules. Plus, who can resist a story filled with happy endings? Grab it and indulge in this lovely novel!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.
This was such a fun collection of novellas! I enjoyed each of them! It was fun to see some of the same characters from Pride and Prejudice in a different light!
I received an ARC from the publisher and all opinions are my own.
The first story did not make sense. This is a sequel, so Jane and Elizabeth are already married, and Lydia has married Wickham. Therefore, Kitty has two brothers-in-law who are fabulously wealthy, and one who is in the first circle and nephew of an earl.
Yet, we have Kitty working as a paid companion to a friend of Mrs. Gardiner. There is NO WAY this would have happened. The Darcys and Bingleys would have never allowed a sister by marriage to enter service. It would have reflected very poorly on them!
Throughout the story, Kitty meets various people and not once does anyone exclaim over her excellent connections. No one seems to know her connections, which is very weird in a society where connections are so important.
Kitty spends a lot of time thinking about her sisters and emulating them, yet they are all discussed as if they were spinsters living at Longbourn. Their marriages are never part of the story. The result is an absurd story that makes no sense as a P&P sequel.
The second story is mildly amusing as Lydia finds love sixteen years after eloping with Wickham. At least this story acknowledges the existence of Darcy and Bingley, something missing in the first story.
The last story tried to be a mystery of some sort, but it was tedious. I don’t mind if Col Fitzwilliam has a different name than Richard, but it should be a name that makes sense. Who in the world would call a grown man “Benj” as a shortened version of Benjamin? If it must be shortened (and I’m not convinced it would have been), why not Ben? I think it was so absurd that it was distracting.
The two stars are mostly for the second story. Read through KU.
4 - Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson – Kitty is in London after the events of P&P, she worries that she is too bland, so tries to engage a gentleman by trying out the personalities of each of her sisters in turn; well written and fun to see how Kitty acts for each sister; of course there is a happy ending 2 - Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings – now in her 30’s, widowed and wiser Lydia foils an elopement and becomes a chaperon to the young lady; the father of the young lady falls in love with Lydia; it is a difficult balance to have Lydia be wiser and yet still Lydia, and I’m not sure this story achieves that; numerous societal norms of the time are broken, some could be attributed to Lydia’s free wheeling nature, but some seem to be for the author’s benefit 3 - The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie – she is Clara, a young widow watching over Georgiana, he is Colonel Fitzwilliam (his first name is Benjamin?! and he goes by Benj!?), Darcy’s cousin; he doesn’t trust her, at first, and she is concerned about the shy Lord Edling, who is pursuing Georgiana; Benj’s brother, Matlock, is a piece of work and schemes to convince Clara she is peniless and tries to get her to marry him; setting aside a few issues (like naming the colonel Benj!), the story is tolerable enough to tempt me :)
I love the Timeless Regency Collections and this one was no exception. All three authors are new to me and I enjoyed each of these stories. A clean romance collection.
I’m a fan of these authors and of the Timeless Regency and Romance collections. The cover of this book is so lovely and I wanted to like the stories but I did not.

✨#timelessregencycollection✨
~Dear friends, have you ever wondered what happened after Pemberley? You are in luck with this wonderful collection of Pride & Prejudice spin-off novellas, where each story is unique, and charming!💯
•Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson
“You’re my favorite of the Bennet sisters, and you will always will be.”
-Kitty is in search of her own identity, as with four sisters and having been greatly influenced by one of them, she still hasn’t discovered who she is. In this search she meets a young man who unexpectedly helps her in her quest. “You are meant to be exactly as you are.”
•Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings
“Everyone makes mistakes, darling.”
-Lydia knows she made a big mistake in her youth, so now, sixteen years after her escape, she finds herself widowed, penniless and estranged from her sisters. When she unexpectedly meets a widower and his daughter, she feels more loved and appreciated than ever, and determined to make amends for her past mistakes. “I would be lonesome every minute of my life without you. You are my home.”
•The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie
“In matters of love, you have the ability to choose. Really choose. You deserve someone who lifts you out of your troubles, and when the time comes. You raise him from his.”
-Colonel Fitzwilliam is a kind-hearted gentleman, but as a younger son and without a great attraction, he is almost invisible to the ladies. But when he meets a young widow he is immediately attracted to her. Convincing her that love is worth giving a chance is harder than he thought, but just as in battle, he won’t give up. “Through thick and thin, rich and poor, you lift me, and I lift you.”
•Content: unmasking identity, strained family dynamics, widower/widowed, death of loved ones in past mentioned, very small scene of mild danger, no language, kisses only.
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I liked the story. It was interesting to see the other sisters so clearly, and I liked watching Kitty find herself.
"Sisters and Second Chances"
3 stars
It was a little hard to see characters that I like shown in a less positive light, but it reinforces that you should try to see things from others' points of view. I was happy to see a happy ending for Lydia.
"The Colonel's Conviction"
1 Star
I did not like this story. I found it boring and insipid.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book. Opinions are my own.
Have you ever wanted to learn more of the beloved characters from Pride and Prejudice?? Here’s your chance!
I absolutely ADORED reading all three of these stories! And the characters I’ve longed to get their happy ending is now being told ♥️
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Playing Miss Bennet By: @beccawilhite
“You’re made up of far too many wonderful characteristics to ever be described in a word. One will never be enough.”
Kitty’s love story, and how she learned who she truly is, outside all her sister’s reputations, reminds us all that we are worthy of love just how we are! ♥️ Kitty is adamant that she is not enough for any man. Augustus is determined to stay off the marriage mart, even carrying on a reputation of a flirtatious rake. Kitty and Augustus form a charade, he stays out of matchmaking mothers grasp, and she can practice taking on her sisters personalities to find which one best suits her. I loved how they both helped each other see the worth in themselves and they are perfect just how they are.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Sisters and Second Chances By: @samanthahastingsauthor
“The more I’ve seen of the world, the more I have longed for a home of my own. Perhaps we always want what we do not have.”
Lydia’s second chance love story was a redemption story I didn’t know I needed! Lydia, through a turn of fate, is a penniless widow, estranged from her sisters. She saves the daughter of a viscount from eloping and ends up becoming her chaperone. She brings light and laughter to a very quiet solemn house and she is accepted for who she is, ‘untamed, unabashed, wild, noisy, and fearless.’ ♥️ I loved how Lydia brought Thomas and Chloe out of their shells and helped them find joy!
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ The Colonel’s Conviction By: @sarahlmcconkie
“So much for a damsel in distress. No one ever mentioned the “knight in puking armor” part of the story.”
Colonel Benjamin Fitzwilliam’s story is filled with a most epic meet cute, banter, stubborn FMC, and a sweet genuine MMC. Benj helps Clara break down her walls and eases her burdens. Clara brings a fire to Benj’s life and together their loneliness melts away. ♥️ I loved how Benj never gave up on Clara and was so patient with her!
“You deserve someone who lifts you out of your troubles, and when the time comes, you raise him from his.”
Thank you to the authors for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.
This is a collection of three novellas, which explores what happened to some minor characters in "Pride and Prejudice". "Playing Miss Bennet" is an amusing story where Kitty Bennet tried to find her own voice and personality. She decided to try out the personalities of each of her other sisters to see if she can find a good fit. She met Augustus, who's pretending to be rake to thwart matchmaking attempts. He decided that being seen with Kitty would make a good smokescreen and entered an agreement to take her out on three 'dates'. So began the hilarious events in which Kitty staged her sisters' personalities on different occasions, finding Augustus the perfect audience for her trials, and making him more and more confounded. In the process, Augustus amazingly managed to bring out the genuine person that Kitty is, help her find and be herself, and find in each other their HEA.
"Sisters and Second Chances" is a look at the Bennet family through Lydia Bennet's eyes, more than a decade after the end of "Pride and Prejudice". In her thirties, she's recently widowed, just paid off her late husband Wickham's debts, and was left to fend for herself with very little. She saved a young girl from eloping with an officer, was engaged as a chaperon for her, and found her second chance at love with the father. This story is written with an alternative interpretation of who Lydia is, appreciating her spirited nature. The story also gives an alternative take on Mr and Mrs Bennet's personalities and how their parenting in Lydia's formative years contributed to her challenges and choices.
"The Colonel's Conviction" fleshes out Colonel Fitzwilliam's character. He is given family, social status, a vocation and personality. In his role as Georgiana's (Darcy's sister) joint guardian, he was tasked to spy on her newly appointed chaperone, Clara. Well, he has certainly met Clara, having appeared as a "knight in puking armour" when she was "in distress"; and endured another embarassing occasion related to his seafood aversion (details when you read the story). In the course of his 'spying', Fitzwilliam got to know Clara, and stumbled upon his own HEA. This witty account is by far my favourite amongst the three short stories.
I love these anthologies! I like reading quick stories but not feeling like they were cut short or moved too quickly. These stories did this well.
Playing Miss Bennet - Rebecca Anderson: Kitty was a companion and trying to find her place in the world and figure out who and what she was. She always felt her sisters were defined in who they were and she never felt that. Augustus was not wanting to get married and pushed to do so by his family and women’s mothers. He always put on a rake personality to keep them at bay. After meeting Kitty he thought it would be great to be seen several times with her. Then those mommas and his would leave him alone. Kitty agreed with her own plans to try out each of her sisters personalities to figure out who she was. Sometimes plans don’t always go as we think they will.
Sisters and Second Chances - Samantha Hastings: Lydia was a widow, while out one evening she witnessed a young lady being persuaded (forced) to elope. She saved the young woman. For no other reason than to save her from a similar life that Lydia had led. Lord Thomas Holden heard noises in his daughters room so went to investigate. He came across a woman that had apparently saved his daughter. He hired her as a chaperone. As Lydia went around with this family she taught them what it was to have fun and enjoy life. They never had before. Thomas began seeing her in a different light. Sometimes life has different paths than what we expect.
The Colonel’s Conviction - Sarah L. McConkie: Clara came from a well to do family. She was married, but it wasn’t great. After losing her husband in a duel, Clara was informed of what a poor finance manager her husband was. She had to rent all her homes and find a job to stay afloat. She became a companion to a young Georgiana. Georgiana also had another protector, Colonel Benjamin Fitzwilliam. Clara and Benj were often in each others company. They grew a fondness for each other. However Benj’s brother had other plans and offered to pay off all her debt if Clara married him. It was an offer she couldn’t refuse. But not all is as it seems.
I was given and ARC of this book. I left my review voluntarily. All opinions expressed on my own.
Adored this book! I love stories based on beloved Pride & Prejudice. This fabulous collection tells the charming, romantic stories of three secondary characters from the favorite classic. I thoroughly enjoyed going Beyond Pemberley & seeing what happens next.
Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson is Kitty’s engaging story. She’s experiencing London as Mrs. Gordon’s companion & meets a flirty, supposed rake. Augustus Haverford’s adopted a roguish personality to fend off marriage, but when he meets Kitty, he’s smitten by the woman who doesn’t easily fall for his charms. But, Kitty’s having an identity crisis. Who is she & which sisters’ personality should she adopt? I loved the romance between Kitty & Augustus. It was fun seeing Kitty try on her different sisters’ personalities only to discover she’s perfect just as she is. I loved how both she & Augustus are putting on a facade only to learn they’re best when they’re themselves.
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings is the lovely second chance story of 32 year old Lydia who’s now older & wiser after Wickham’s death. When she rescues a viscount’s daughter from a fate similar to her own, she wins the admiration of Chloe’s widowed father. I enjoyed seeing Lydia more mature, but still retaining her spark of fun. She makes Viscount Kingston’s & Chloe’s life so full & may find the love & acceptance she’s always wanted.
The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie is Darcy’s cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam’s story. As Georgiana’s experiencing her first season in London, Benj falls for her feisty companion. Clara takes on the role of companion while struggling to figure out her estate’s debts left by her deceased, wastrel husband & can’t afford to fall for a charming second son. I thoroughly loved Colonel Fitzwilliam from P&P & enjoyed seeing his character more fleshed out. He’s witty, delightful, romantic & a definite temptation in this reverse grumpy sunshine romance. Loved seeing Darcy in this one too!
Highly recommend, especially to P&P fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher, but also purchased in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.
This was a fun collection to read. I love P&P variations but most of the ones I've read have been about Darcy & Elizabeth. I loved this collection because they were all about secondary characters though D&E show up either in name or in person. They are just minor characters in these stories. These stories are about Kitty, Lydia and the Colonel, respectively.
Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson Poor Kitty is trying to figure out who she really is since she hasn't had Lydia to follow around. It was fun to see her try to act as each of her sisters in turn to try on their personalities. But not even Lydia was a good fit. It was wonderful to see Kitty mature and happy in the end. I loved that her love interest was willing to watch her be someone different every outing even if it was confusing but then helped her to see herself.
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings I liked all the stories but this might be my favorite because the author gave Lydia the same personality as canon but also since she is older and widowed now, she made her wiser having learned some life lessons and she is a delightful person. I really liked Lydia in this story. She is still exuberant but joyful instead of inappropriate. And for her to be so joyful when she has had such a difficult life since her marriage to Wickham shows how she has matured and become so much wiser. I loved watching her get a real chance for a family who loves and respects her.
The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie This one gave us a double love match to watch. The Colonel finds his true love and so does Georgiana along the way. The Colonel is one of my favorite secondary characters so I always love to see him find happiness in a variation. And I liked who he found. I was so happy for the heroine to finally find happiness in her life as well.
This is a fun collection, especially if you love Pride and Prejudice variations. I read a lot of them and was delighted to be able to read this one.
This was my first time reading a Timeless Regency Collection book, but it won't be my last. Fans of Pride and Prejudice will love that three familiar characters: Kitty, Lydia, and Colonel Fitzwilliam- all get their own happily ever after!
Playing Mrs. Bennett Kitty's love story with the supposed town rake was actually perfect for her. I loved Kitty's journey of self-discovery as she tries to imitate her sisters’ personalities (a fairly hard feat considering how different she is from them). I also loved Augustus’ journey of learning to shed his persona of a rake and be true to who he really is. The epilogue was delightful and proved the perfect ending to the story.
Sisters and Second Chances This age-gap redemption love story was one of my faves of the book! I felt like the author did a good job of staying true to Lydia's character while also showing the maturity that comes from age and experience. The opposites attract vibes between Lydia and Kingston were perfect and served as a nice juxtaposition against Lydia's careless first marriage from Pride and Prejudice. It was also cool to see Lydia be able to mentor a young impressionable girl during her first season. It felt like the story from Pride and Prejudice came full circle as she helped Chloe navigate love.
The Colonel’s Conviction From the get-go, this short story was just so fun! The meet cute between Colonel Fitzwilliam and Clara was absolutely hilarious, and I love that it played into the rest of the story as well. Although I couldn't remember who Colonel Fitzwilliam was from the original Pride and Prejudice (I know, so embarrassing!) I still was able to follow the story very easily and pick up the pieces I couldn't remember along the way. The characters were well fleshed out and interesting despite the short length. I also love that Georgiana figured prominently into the story, and Mr Darcy had a few cameos as well. There was even a little bit of suspense and mystery sprinkled throughout. Five stars for sure!
This was such a interesting take on characters from Pride & Prejudice and what might have happened to them.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson When twenty-year-old Kitty Bennet spends a season in London as a companion, she finds herself both drawn to and disturbed by the rakish Augustus Haverford. In in trying on her sisters' personalities to discover her own, she must decide whether her heart’s inconvenient attraction is a mistake or destiny.
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings Sixteen years after her own elopement, widow Lydia Wickham thwarts a young woman’s runaway plans and is unexpectedly hired as a chaperone by the grateful father, only to upend the quiet lives of Viscount Kingston and his daughter and help transform their household into a true family.
The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie Tasked with protecting Georgiana Darcy and her captivating companion Clara, Colonel Fitzwilliam must overcome a rocky first impression and prove to the wary young widow that even the most guarded hearts can find healing and hope in love.
MY TAKE All three stories were entertaining. I struggled with the first one a bit because I felt like Augustus was using Kitty. Fortunately, she looked at their interactions as an opportunity and didn't mind helping him since it gave her a chance to try out her sister's personalities. She learned some useful lessons and found love in the process.
As for the second book, it held some excellent insight into not only Lydia's youthful mistakes but also observations about her parents' relationship and Mr. Bennet's poor treatment of the women in his family. It certainly painted the vexing Mrs. Bennet in a very different light. I'm a sucker for a good redemption story, this one did an excellent job. And I loved the reunion with her sisters. This is a story I would enjoy revisiting.
The third story was an entertaining tale of Colonel Fitzwilliam finally finding his happily ever after. Lovely story.
I adore this series so much! The novellas have a wonderful flow, are easy to jump in and out of, which makes them ideal for beach reading, and are full of charismatic characters, picturesque scenery, and love at every turn. Beyond Pemberley is no exception.
The trio starts out with Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson, a sweet story that shows playacting can sometimes lead to self-discovery. All the world is a stage, and both of our ‘players’ in this novel play parts that they believe will benefit their individual missions, but all it does is hide the truth. I adored the banter between Augustus and Kitty, especially their first meet-cute, but honestly, anytime they’re together, it is a literary treat. It hurt my heart that Kitty didn’t have enough confidence to be her true self with Augustus, but I could see so much of my own story mirrored in theirs, which was truly touching.
Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings was my favorite of the three. This novel felt like an utter whirlwind, not only in pace but as a reader. I feel like the story had barely begun when it reached its end, and I was so sad that it was over. Everything about it was perfection. A heroine that’s easy to get behind, a gentleman who knows how to make a girl feel seen, and the daughter with all the charm and excitement of youth. I was so sad to see it end so quickly!
We end this collection with The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie. While it took a minute to warm up to, I was charmed by both Benj and Clara and their unique love story. It’s refreshing when you see a messy love-match such as theirs that starts out with one of the most disgusting meet-cutes I’ve read in a long time. The wit in this novella was so charming, and the ending was simply the best, as it’s clear these two are perfect for each other.
I adore this series so much and love that I had the opportunity to read another installment.
This was such a fun collection! I loved the way that the stories were inspired by Pride and Prejudice. The stories were all really fun to read with sweet romance. Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson I loved getting to imagine Kitty’s story! Here she finds not only companionship and romance, but who she is. I think her journey to discover who she was, what type of characteristics fit her was very relatable. Her sisters had such clear descriptions and she wanted to be just as memorable and distinct. Augustus was also very fun. He was playacting a bit too, but found Kitty so intriguing. I loved seeing them join forces and get to experience Society together. They were able to help each other settle into themselves. Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings This might have been my favorite of the collection, I loved seeing Lydia’s second chance. It was so sweet to see her joy of life and exuberance tempered with a bit of experience and wisdom. I loved how she was able to come into Chloe and Kingston’s life and bring vibrancy. She was able to be a mother figure to Chloe and I thought their relationship was so sweet. I adored her and Kingston’s romance, they had such a great opposites attract while recognizing, their differences meant they had to learn how to support each other. The Colonel’s Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie This was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the mix of romance, humor and even a bit of intrigue wrapped into it. Benj was really sweet and I loved how he cared for Georgiana and Darcy. Clara was sweet and thoughtful, but guarded. It was fun to see them get to know one another and open up to each other. As secrets are revealed, I loved how Benj both fought for Clara, but gave her the opportunity to make her own choices. Overall, I found this collection really engaging and sweet. I loved the concept and the romance was so sweet. All of the stories are novella length and have only kissing. I received an ARC.
3 amazing authors, 3 swoony novellas, 1 amazing book. What more does a Pride and Prejudice fan want? Nothing, absolutely nothing. If you've ever wondered what happened to some of the characters after P&P, kind of a 'where are they now' idea, you will be a fan as I am.
Kitty, Lydia, and Colonel Fitzwilliam are the stars of this collection of short stories and you see more into their characters than their previous side-kick roles. I wondered if it would feel disingenuous but it just worked so well. It was like reading an epilogue to the original- felt complete and happy. I wish there were more stories about more characters.
Kitty isn't sure what 'her' personality is other than invisible. Is she just a shadow of her stronger personality sisters? Who should she try to be more like? It is an experiment that will bring giggles and a couple of surprises.
Lydia is widowed after a 16 year loveless and scandalous marriage. She is also penniless. Her heart is good, however, and she helps another young girl avoid a similar situation. She finds herself in another interesting situation but this time the results would effect more people that herself.
Fitzwilliam, the cousin of the famed Mr. Darcy, has been injured and returned to be with family. Being the 2nd son of an Earl- his prospects are not high and he has yet to find true love. The meet hilarious, (you can't call it cute) sets the tone of this novella and you really cheer for the man with a big heart.
Every book in the Timeless Regency Collection has been a win for me- I am a big regency fan. Check them out if you ever want to dabble into regency stories and see if you may be a fan as well; they are short and sweet.
If you’re looking for sweet romance, clever characters, and classic Regency vibes with a fresh twist, Beyond Pemberley, A Timeless Regency Collection by Rebecca Anderson, Samantha Hastings, and Sarah L. McConkie is a total delight. Each novella focuses on a familiar Pride and Prejudice character and gives them their own charming love story. Even if you only sort of remember the movie (like me), you’ll still absolutely love it!
Playing Miss Bennet This one was probably my favorite even tho they are all fantastic! Kitty Bennet steps into the spotlight in this hilarious fake relationship story. As she tries to find her identity, poor Augustus gets caught up in all her ‘performances’ and ends up completely smitten. Their chemistry is so fun, and I absolutely loved the way Augustus encourages Kitty to be herself!
Sisters and Second Chances Lydia’s story was so sweet! Now a widow, she gets a second chance at love while chaperoning a young lady she helped rescue. Her slow burn romance with a handsome viscount on the beach was so much fun to read, and I absolutely love a second chance with a happy ending!
The Colonel’s Conviction Colonel Fitzwilliam and Clara’s first meeting is pure chaos in the best way. Their witty back and forth banter, emotional growth, and Georgiana Darcy subplot made this one such a fun read.
Each story felt fresh, funny, and heartwarming. I truly loved seeing these side characters get their happily ever afters. Honestly, I should probably go rewatch Pride and Prejudice now…
Thank you so much to the authors and publishers for the advanced copy of this book! All thoughts are my own :)
Ever wanted more of Pride and Prejudice? This book is for you! It is 3 novellas in 1. The first is about Kitty, the second is about Lydia, and the third about Colonel Fitzwilliam.
Playing Miss Bennet-(Kitty's Story) This book is about Kitty searching who she is, and who she wants to be. She knows she has a personality that mirrors others, and she wants to know who she truly is. She meets a young gentleman and they strike a deal that will help both of them. He wants to avoid the ladies of the Ton, and she needs someone to practice different personalities on. The banter in this one is fun!!
Sisters and Second Chances (Lydia's Story) This was my favorite of the 3. It is years after Lydia elopes with Wickham, and she is widowed. I love that it shows how she can still stay true to a lighthearted and lively personality, but through trials has grown up and learned how to refine those qualities, make good choices, and become a mature and confident woman. We all make mistakes in our youth, and I love that Lydia gets a second chance!!!
The Colonel's Conviction - (Colonel Fitzwilliam) This is a beautifully written story about the Colonel and a widow. Because of her past experiences, he must convince her to give him a chance, and that she deserves so much more than a marriage to someone who can solve her monetary struggles, she deserves to be loved and cherished.
I enjoyed all these books! The only downside was that because they are novellas, they felt a bit rushed to me. But all in all, fun with lots of banter!
Delightful. Each story was delightful. Fans of Pride and Prejudice will love continuing the stories and imagining the lives Beyond Pemberly.
✨Playing Miss Bennet by @beccawilhite 🎭Catherine. Sweet Kitty has never known her own mind as her sisters had such strong personalities. Once she is given the chance to try each personality out she soon realizes her own special light.
“That was simply a performance. The woman beneath the act is a different person, and a much more interesting one.”
✨Sisters and Second Chances by @samanthahastingsauthor 🐚Lydia. What a delight to see what could have happened in her life after marrying and such scandal. Her strong will is evident and her kind thoughtful side shines. Compliments. Real compliments have lasting effects.
“If I were to have had a daughter, I would have wanted her to be exactly like you. Smart and kind and pretty—all the best things.”
✨The Colonel’s Conviction by @sarahlmcconkie 🎹Oh to see Georgiana grow and shine and to have a new character Clara enter the Fitzwilliam world. Her own needs take a backseat as she helps Georgiana navigate life.
“I would think we were in more danger of a scandal alone in this corridor.”
✨Each story was beautifully done and the MC’s were beyond swoony and the proper gentlemanly nature makes your heart flutter. I love novella’s for the romance happening sooner without too many obstacles.
