I’ll be honest with you—I'm no saint. Sure, when I turned down my 3.6 million dollar football contract to join the SEAL Teams, the media had a field day. Selfless, patriotic, an American hero. But the God's honest truth was that I was bored with that world, the playboy lifestyle, the ass kissing, the lack of integrity. There’s even a line in one of our cadences: “When I go to heaven St. Peter he will say ‘Did you earn your living? Did you earn your pay?’ My reply was with a little bit of thunder ‘I earned my living killing down under.’” You've read the tabloids—I'm infallible, invincible, invaluable. But it wasn't that deep—I just wanted some action.
A one night stand with a San Diego coed, no promise for tomorrow. I picked her out of a steamy nightclub—sexy blonde hair, curvy hips, nice ass. After she rode me all night, I took in the ocean view from my condo, thankful for the blissful moments she gave me to get me through my long deployment—I savored the warm touch of a woman, the scent of her perfume and the sound of her laughter.
As fate would have it, I crossed paths with Miss San Diego again, halfway across the world in Afghanistan. Turns out she was a professional cheerleader sent on a USO tour to entertain my Team. Her convoy was ambushed, and insurgents held her hostage deep in the mountains. I'd gazed into her beautiful blue eyes and given her my word that she'd be safe. And my word is my bond.
I'll never win MVP, never get the championship ring, but some heroes don't play games.

Kyle and Sara meet at a club and it’s insta lust and they have an extremely passionate one night stand with an unexpected bond that develops between them but they know they will never see each other again. Before they can discuss taking things further Sara is kidnapped and it rocks Kyle to his core, he sets out to save her no matter what.
Invaluable is a very fast paced romance with super hot sex, danger and a love that is pretty close to instant. This is a lot of story in a short read making it a great book to read for a mini me-time break along with a glass of wine or coffee. Invaluable can be read as a stand-alone.
We all have our favorite authors who write in particular themes, when it comes to the Military - Alana Albertson is one of my top authors. In Book #1 we met Pat and Annie whom he had rescued from sex traffickers after she was kidnapped. I had wondered whether Invaluable would take a similar course or not. In Invaluable we meet another of Pat's teammates Kyle. Kyle could have become a national football star, but after seeing what life he was living, he turned down the big bucks and joined the Navy SEALS. While on leave, Kyle and his teammate Vic head out dancing where they meet two females Sara and her friend. Kyle and Sara hit it off and have an amazing night filled with passion and sizzling chemistry. The next day though, they both return to their normal lives. Months later, Kyle is with his team on tour in Afghanistan when the USO tour stops by to cheer up the troops with their San Diego Cheerleading team which to Kyle's surprise Sara is on. The pair despite the rules have another amazing night and promise to keep in touch. Though tragedy while striking when the girls return on their way home as their convoy is attacked and the girls kidnapped. Now Kyle and his team must head out and find the girls before any of them are killed or worst raped and beaten or sold. Can Kyle find Sara or will she be lost forever? Is Sara Kyle's Annie? Find out in this fast-paced military romantic suspense new adult story by Alana Albertson today as you will not be disappointed as it draws you in from the very first chapter
Bought this after the author revealed on Twitter the book prior to this in the series had sold roughly $30k of copies whereas this one had only sold $1.3k. The only difference between the books was this one had a black man on the cover. I thought that racism was uncool and oneclicked to show support for diverse covers.
Now, however, I’m reminded of why I largely avoid contemporary m/f romances except for a very few authors. The gender roles are so overtly (boringly) displayed. The man is huge, the woman so tiny he can toss her over his shoulder without feeling it. He is a ‘player’, she slut shames herself and almost never hooks up outside of relationships. He’s a football player and Navy Seal, she’s a cheerleader and teaches pre-school while getting her degree in education. And, after obtaining consent for sex in general, he takes control of all aspects of their sexual relations, even their kisses, without ever asking her preferences.
After their first meeting, he lie and tells her he will call, then doesn’t and although she’s upset by this for a long time, she lets him off the hook *without* a grovel. It made me uneasy.
They both quickly decide they are in love based on nothing more than physical attraction, a few light conversations and a shared enjoyment of football. It ‘feels right’. So, yeah, shallow plus a side helping of a few steamy scenes.
Aside from all of this, I was truly bothered by the simple-minded patriotism and dehumanizing of the enemy in this book. The US military are all fine, upstanding people whose presence make the heroine proud to be American.
The Afghani fighters are horribly smelly, with mouths of rotting teeth, who like to blow up convoys and rape women for no reason. An early description of one reads, “The angry man retaliated by backhanding her, practically foaming, the corners of his mouth retaining the mass of small bubbles like a rabid dog.”
That is racism and bigotry. Just because you’ve got a black man on your cover doesn’t let you skate home free.
Invaluable is the second book in the Trident Code series by Alana Albertson, with each book being a standalone story. The blurb really sold me on this story, so though I haven't read the first in the series I needed to read this one. While there were things that didn't work as well for me her as I had hoped, it was a nice quick read that I enjoyed.
Kyle and Sara met at a club and shared a sexy night together. Kyle promised to call but knowing he was being deployed ended up not getting in touch with Sara. Now months later Sara shows up in Afghanistan, never expecting to see Kyle there as well. Kyle had told her that he was a football player, which he used to be, so she is shocked to learn that he is actually a Navy SEAL. Though they both know that things can't go beyond some fun together, things quickly change when Sara finds herself in danger with no one but Kyle and his team to save her.
I liked these two for one another. I will admit that there were times that Kyle seemed a bit cocky and hard to connect with at first but I ended up liking him a lot. I thought that he and Sara had a genuine connection and the chemistry was clear from the start. I do think that things felt really rushed here though, and I wasn't entirely convinced that the strength of their feelings was possible in the amount of time that things seemed to form between them. I did think that they were good together though, I just wish that we had been able to see it form a bit more organically without it feeling so forced in such a short amount of time. I just think there weren't enough pages here to really do their story justice.
Overall, this was still a good story and I did like the characters. I wish that there had been a bit more to the story as things felt a bit surface deep and I would have liked to have been able to really dig into their story a bit more. But this one was a good quick read that I liked in the end. While this one isn't a story that I will remember or have stand out long term, it was worth the read and I look forward to reading more in this series about the rest of Kyle's team.
An amazing romance about Kyle and Sara. Kyle is alpha male, strong, possessive and goes for what he wants. He goes all the distance as a former football star. For me he sometimes came out a bit too cocky. Sara is independent and unselfish sometimes a bit too naive and dramatic for me. A storyline that is captivating and two main characters that are so well described that you almost feel you know them. The book is packed with a girl that needs saving, an alpha male that comes to the rescue, lots of action and drama, chemistry, very hot scenes, passion and lots of other emotions. I like that way that the author has incorporated the military in the story. The part with Afghanistan was amazingly real. Plot is predictable but the story is absolutely readable.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Invaluable is an incredible read with a great cast of characters. In this story you have two of the most unlikeliest people who find a connection. Kyle a one time Football player who gave up the life to become a Navy Seal and Sara an up and coming Cheerleader he is working on a degree in education. After meeting at a local San Diego club the two share a night of no ties passion. Months later they run into each other in the most unlikely of places. But things don't turn out any way close to whe either of them expected. The whirlwind relationship of these two incredible people combined with the unexpected and fearful attack that Sara and her teammates endure causes reaction in all involved. A wonderful read, with great characters. I recommend this to all lovers of romance and those Hunky Military Seals!🌺
INVALUABLE was the PERFECT blend of what I LOOOVE in a story!! A hot as sin, sexy, alphalicious, brawny NAVY seal combined with a sassy and sweet heroine; scorchingly HOT chemistry; and an action packed storyline that had me on the edge of my seat!!!! I loved the development of Kyle's feelings for Sara - how he started as just a player then realised that Sara was THE ONE that he wanted to come home to after deployments and training! Swooon!!! And the way he called her "baby" gave me goosebumps every.single.time.!!!! This was an addictive read with its fast paced narrative, and witty banter!! To be honest, I wished that this book had been longer as it was over before I knew it! I love Alana Albertson's writing style and cannot wait for Vic's story! 4.5!"I want a NAVY seal" stars!!
This one was pretty predictable, but still fun to read. I was glad that Kyle realized he cared about Sara and did something about it even after all the drama. Nice to see the HEA for these two!
(I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review)
I'm not going to lie, I don't normally go for Military Romances but because of the interracial element (I'm often curious to see how authors explore that, as well as how they depict and characterize characters of color) and the Sports Romance overlap (the male lead is a former football player and the female lead is a professional cheerleader), I thought I'd give it a shot. I think that I was able to enjoy it more because of it's short length (it's more of a novella than full length novel) than if it had been longer. The pacing was swift (but not in a bad way) and it kept me fairly entertained throughout. I did have slight issue with how the African American male lead was portrayed (it's not alway necessary to alter the speech patterns and verbiage used just because a character is black), but it wasn't offensive. While I probably won't continue on with the series, I feel comfortable giving Invaluable a solid 3 out of 5 wine glasses.
Sara and Kyle's story spans the globe and some time but is well worth the wild ride. Sara is not your average pro-cheerleader. While beautiful and bendy, she is also incredibly grounded and has lofty ambitions and wants real things in life outside of pom-poms and a jock on her arm. Blowing off some steam she is out with a teammate one night when she meets the handsome and charming Kyle. His looks and personality leads her to indulge in a night of passion, but when he doesn't call she just chalks it up to poor desicion making skills and tries to move on. She never expects when she steps off the military transport in Afghanistan for the squads USO gig that her one night stand will be there looking like a real live GI Joe. Kyle learned the hard way when he gave up his pro-ball career that relationships are kind of a minefield and one night stands can lead to real cling ons if they think something can be gained. So he learned quick to get in, get off, and get gone. While Sara seems sweet enough, he's deploying soon and as a SEAL a relationship is even more difficult with him deployed so often so he just ghosts her. But when she gets off that plane he is floored and he knows that he shouldn't start it up again but she has been haunting him since he walked away. He tries to keep it casual and even convinces himself that that is what's best. However, when the unthinkable happens Kyle is forced to face what had been in front of his face all along.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
Kyle is a former pro football play that surprised everyone. Instead of signing a new contract to play football for over 9 million, he left the sport and disappeared. Nobody realized that Kyle joined the navy to become a SEAL. One night between missions, he and a friend go to the club and he spots Sara, a gorgeous blond and a great dancer. Kyle introduces himself as a former baller but doesn't mention what he does now. The attraction between them is so hot that Sara agrees to go home with him. They have a hot passionate night and Kyle promises to call but never does. Sara has never really done a one night stand before but she couldn't resist Kyle's looks and hot body. She is a preschool teacher but she has another job that she doesn't share with Kyle. She is a new cheerleader for the local football team. Sara is sad when Kyle doesn't call but her jobs keep her busy. Then her cheer/dance squad go to Afghanistan for USO performances. To her surprise Kyle meets her when she gets off the plane. He apologizes for not calling and she gives him a second chance. After another night together, the cheer squad is driving to another camp for another performance when the convoy gets attacked. Sara and her friends are kidnapped by the bad guys. Will Kyle be able to rescue her before it is too late? This is a good book but has some violence. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
Sara is a Cheerleader and from a pretty famous squad. Her whole focus is on Cheering, practicing, and working out beyond that she doesnt have the time. Kyle is much like Sara in that way he doesnt do relationships and focuses only on being a SEAL after giving up his Career as a professional baller. So when one night they meet and have a one night stand they dont think they will ever meet again, until she gets off a plane in Afghanistan where both their safely laid out plans will disappear forever.
What I enjoyed most about Invaluable is watching two people who are very dedicated to what they do go at that full force but not seeing the love growing between them. Seeing Sara knowing what she wants but not wanting to get hurt as he has told her pretty much friends with benefits, watching Kyle change his word when she is kidnapped and seeing his feelings running so much deeper for her then he ever thought.
This book is great, a very fast entertaining read that constantly leaves you wanting more. This book has Sara a woman of 21 who doesnt do relationships since her boyfriend dumped her as soon as she made the Squad that she worked very hard to achieve but she thinks why not and goes home with a man she just meet for a one night stand, Kyle a man who doesnt flaunt or even tell people that he is a SEAL as he has some secrets from his past that he keeps buried inside him, a Military love story. If you like stories like this, then Invaluable is a must!

The blurb is what sold me into reading this book. I haven't read the first book in the series but I am sure that it was well written and well thought of as well as this one. There are a lot or military themed books out there and I've read a lot of them but I must say that Alana Albertson writes them really well. Her books will get you hook, line and sinker. Although short, it packs a hell of a punch fom the characters to the story itself.
Kyle was a former football player who left everything to serve in the Navy and then became a SEAL. Sara is a college student and a rookie cheerleader who is a fighter. They met one summer and had a one night stand thinking that they are never going to see each other again. But then they met again in Afghanistan when Sara along with the other cheerleaders and football players performed for the troops. In an unexpected turn of events, Sara and the other girls were kidnapped. After that incident, Kyle decided that something has to change.
Even if at first you think you know what you want in life, there's a possibility that it can change. Especially if you meet the one person that you know will change your life forever. Love and trust prevails against all odds.
An extraordinary story about a United States Navy Seal and a cheerleader for a professional football team. Kyle meet Sara at a club in San Diego. They had a one night stand and neither one of them could get each other off their minds. They met again in Afghanistan when Sara went to entertain the troops for Christmas. Sara was a cheerleader for the San Diego Wildfire football team. The story takes of then. Will Sara and Kyle get together? Will the tour go off without a hitch? Be sure and read the book to find out. The story has plenty of action, fear, demons from the past, courage, sexy scenes, and love. Alana took her plot and wove her characters into it seamlessly. I loved how she showed us each of her characters flaws and the demons of the past they were fighting. She showed the courage of women when things go awry. Reading this books makes you proud to be a US citizen. I recommend this book for a weekend read. Be ready for your world to be rocked by this book. Invaluable (The Trident Code Book 2) by Alana Albertson
This was a great book..lots of chemistry between a Sarah and Kyle, suspenseful..worth the buy. Kyle is an ex-NFL star who gave up 9 million dollar contract to become a Navy Seal. Before he ships out, he picks up the Sarah a beautiful blond he sees at the club, and they spend a night together. He tells her he will call, but she doesn't hear from him again. Sara is a cheerleader for one of NFL teams. The night she spent with a Kyle was amazing, and now she can't stop thinking about him...but he does not call her again. She never told him that she's a professional cheerleader, and he never told her he was a Seal, so when she came off the plane for the USO tour, where he was stationed, they are shocked....but then Sarah's bus get ambushed and the girls are held hostage...can Kyle save Sarah, and can they have a happily ever after!!
Awesome contemporary military with a touch of football romance. Kyle use to be a professional football player but have up a multi-million dollar contract to become a Navy SEAL. He is proud of serving his country but tired of women wanting him for his money or his military status. Sara meets Kyle at a nightclub. Not one to go home with a man yet she feels safe with Kyle. He doesn't tell her that he is in the military. In turn she doesn't tell him she was just hired as a cheerleader for a pro team. She tells him she's a student with hopes of becoming a teacher which is the truth. Sara's part of the USO going over to Afghanistan for the troops and it just so happens Kyle is stationed there. Suddenly disaster strikes and lives are lost and on the line. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Albertson.
I voluntarily reviewed this ARC book. Sweet book. Everyone has something to hide. For some it is a small secret, for others it is their entire being. Kyle is a seal, giving up a contract worth millions to play ball, he instead serves his country. Feeling that he is married to the Navy, he closes up himself to feeling anything. Sara worked herself to death to gain a position on the San Diego Sparks, a dance troop that inspired her to dream big. Making the team as a rookie, she must tow the line. But in one night she meets someone who gets it, but after that night he doesn't hear from him, until her USO tour brings her to Afghanistan. Seeing Kyle is a breath of fresh air since she hasn't forgotten that night. But when things get desperate, will she become more to Kyle or will their future come to an end?
I received an ARC of this story for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book a lot. It's the story of Kyle (former pro football player, turned Navy SEAL) and Sara (college student and professional football cheerleader) - who meet one night at a bar and have a very hot one night stand. He makes no promises to her and they go their separate ways. Fast forward many months later and they cross paths again - this time in Afghanistan - he's deployed and she's part of a USO tour. They reconnect and then all hell breaks lose... don't want to ruin the story for anyone but let's just say suddenly Sara's life is in great danger and Kyle and his team must use all of their ability, training, knowledge to save her and her teammates.
This is book 2 in the Trident Code series. Unfortunately, I didn't read book one, but the description I read said it could be read as a stand alone, so I'm all in!! Sara and Kyle meet in a bar. Their chemistry is stinking hot! She is a professional cheerleader but tells him that she's a college student and cheers for school. He is a Seal but tells her he plays football professionally. Not exactly starting out on solid ground. But when fate steps in, after he didn't call the day after their explosive night together, they are on the same page. This was a fun, quick read with no cheating and a happily ever after...life is good!
This is the second book in the Trident Code Series and can be read as a standalone novel. Kyle has given up his successful football career to join the navy seals. While on deployment he meets Sarah in a nightclub and they have a passion filled night. They run into each other in Afghanistan. where she is touring with the USO and they have another night. When her convoy is ambushed he is sent to rescue them and he realizes that his attraction to her is stronger than he thought. Steamy and full of hot action to steam up your kindle. I received an arc and voluntarily chose to review this book.
This is book two in the Trident series. You don't necessarily have to read the first book, but it would help with some of the references. Alana Albertson just keeps getting better and better! This story has hook ups, hot SEAL's, kidnapping, terrorists, passion and love. A hell of a combination!! Great read. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hero, Kyle = 5/5 Heroine, Sara = 5/5 Chemistry = 5/5 Sex = 5/5 Plot = 4/5 Mystery = 2/5 Action = 3/5 Darkness = 4/5 Humor = 1/5 POV = dual Would I recommend this book = yes Would I re-read this book = yes Would I read future books by this author = yes
rcvd an arc for giving my two cents. i enjoyed this book. we meet kyle, former NFL'er and current SEAL, at a bar with his bud with his sights set on a hot blonde. We then meet Sara, a newly appointed NFL cheerleader out with her bff when she spots a sexy man staring her way. a fabulous hookup that resulted in seeing each other again 6 months later in Afghanistan. Sara had to idea kyle was a SEAL and he didnt know she was a cheerleader....but attraction is still high. Another passionate nights leads to Sara and her team being kidnapped and kyle doing insane. will kyle find sara? will they end up together?
This was actually a pretty good story. I was expecting something a bit like Triton since this is only the second book I've read by this author, but aside from being clearly the same writing style, I liked these characters much better and the story was much more interesting. I like them despite getting a relatively shallow view of who they are. Kyle is much more fleshed out than Sara but they seem to fit together well. Especially with her strength and determination and focus throughout her horrible ordeal in the desert. She kept her head and saved more than herself. Overall this was a tumultuous, sexy, tender story that made me want to read more from the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. 3,5 A Navy SEAL who meets again his one night stand from USA, but in Afghanistan….ok, why not. I can’t say it was predictable….When I chose to review this book, I didn’t understand that a big part of the story was in Afghanistan. The book is well written, with a good style, good characters, but I don’t really like this kind of story with attacks, terrorism, so, I was uncomfortable despite the book’s quality. But it would be unfair to give 3 stars because this book really deserves his 4 stars.
Kyle leaves a promising football career with a heavy soul. He chooses to join the Navy SEALs to alleviate the pain, to redeem his "sins". However, after all that work making the changes, he finds he's still in the same cesspool of despair. That is, until Sara walks into his life. Together, their lives take a wild, passionate turn with a suspenseful, dangerous event that will keep a reader on the edge of his seat. Intense, thrilling, feels real, well written and a beautiful love story. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five Stars PLUS!
After working a 12 hour shift, I decided to start this book. I was only going to read 3 or 4 chapters just to wind down before bed. Right! Next thing I know it's midnight and I have finished the book! I love/hate when a story gets my attention like that. I really liked the fact that both Kyle and Sara both went into the start of their "relationship" with open eyes and no expectations. Looking forward to Vic's story and need to go back and read Pat's.
*I received an Advance Readers Copy of this story which I am voluntarily reviewing*
4.5 ⭐️ Great SEALs Read - another hit from Alana Albertson! This was an exciting, steamy read with undeniable chemistry between Kyle and Sara the lead characters. It was also great to get to know some more about the other seals in the team and see them all in action rescuing the damsel in distress and saving the day in true heroic style.
I received an arc of this book and have left an honest and independent review.
