Co możesz poświęcić dla miłości?

Dawno temu Skylar Finch była wokalistką amerykańskiego zespołu pop-rockowego odnoszącego wielkie sukcesy. Jednak sława nie dawała jej szczęścia i kosztowała zbyt wiele wyrzeczeń. Lata życia w zakłamaniu zakończyły się tragedią, a Skylar zniknęła z muzycznej mapy Ameryki.

Mija półtora roku. Skylar znajduje swoje miejsce do życia w Glasgow.

Skylar stanowczo odmawia podpisania kontraktu.

I brushed my fingers over his face. What must it be like to be loved by him? I imagined it a heady thing, winning the love of a man who offered it so sparingly.

AS DUST DANCES, the latest contemporary romance by the amazing Samantha Young is incredibly steamy and a total angst fest! In other words, a PERFECT summer read!! I absofreakingutely loved this one ladies and I can’t wait till you all can get your hands on it! The chemistry between Killian O'Dea and Skylar Finch is off the charts HOT!!! I was consumed by this couple’s love story and nearly died from the sexual tension that built between them through the plot development.

Almost two years ago, Skylar Finch was one of the most famous American pop stars known around the world. No one would ever believe how far she would end up falling from grace. Once living the high life, wearing designer clothes and jet-setting around the globe, now she was living on the streets of Glasgow, with only her beloved guitar which was a gift from her mother and a few dollars to her name from busking. Skylar had dreamed of becoming famous with her band when she was a teenager but when her dreams came true, she found that the reality wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. She hated that every aspect of her life was no longer her own and had become fodder for the media. But it was a tragic incident that pushed her over the edge and resulted in her quitting the band and literally dropping off the face of the earth.

Skylar was falling on seriously hard times living on the streets of Glasgow. Ironically it would be a surly record executive who spotted her busking for money that would become her savior. The last thing Skylar wants is to get back into the record making business, but Killian is her only hope for getting off the streets and so she reluctantly agrees to sign a one-album deal with him.

There is seriously chemistry between them from the very start. Even when Skylar looked a sickly and grungy mess, it was easy to see that Killian was drawn to her. His need to protect her was intense and I couldn’t wait till these two finally got past their insecurities and apprehension and just gave into the passion instead!

Skylar and Killian live in a little bubble they created for a while but they know they won’t be able to shut out all the frenzy from the paparazzi once she comes out with her new album. Being in the spotlight is the last thing Skylar wants. Will Killian choose his career over what’s truly best for the woman he loves?

Here are my overall ratings

Hero: 5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

Very beautifully written book. Emotional and deep.
Amazing.
Incredible lyrics. The 1st book with the lyrics in it I read and reread (and not skipped).

I wasn’t a big fan of a romance itself, see spoiler below, but the book was so good written and touched me deeply.

I’m intrigued by the next book’s premise.

Skylar Finch used to be a popular artist. She was the lead vocalist of a famous rock band which she co-founded with her friends. Her life took a different direction after the tragic loss of her parents, who were tragically murdered and when her relationship with Micah was too toxic to handle. Now she's homeless and busking around the streets Glasgow for her daily needs. As much as possible, she stays out of the limelight to escape her problems. Her dreams vanished in a blink of an eye.

One day, Killian O'Dea scouts for a new talent for their record label. He recognize Skylar when she's busking and offered her a record deal. Skylar had nothing in her hands after the culprits stole her things -- especially her guitar which has a sentimental value -- and hurt her. She had no choice but to accept his offer in spite of hesitancy making a comeback in the music industry as a solo artist.

Skylar's character growth was beautifully done. From a lost and naive girl to a headstrong and lively woman. She might seem annoying at first but I appreciate her for embracing her flaws and learn from her mistakes. Killian helped her in this journey and their relationship is healthier compared to what she had with Micah. Killian treated her with utmost respect and care. It's impossible not to fall in love with Samantha Young's heroes. They might brooding at first but they're all affectionate and attentive lovers. These two have a great chemistry and I love the gradual build up between them. Just the right steam and sexiness. ;)

As Dust Dances is one of the most challenging books I have to review. The story itself hit close to home I have to step back and let the story sink in for a while. That's how Samantha Young's writing moved me. Her books are always more than just a romance novel and always leave an emotional punch.  To end this review, here are the lessons I learned from Skylar and KIllian's story:

- It's okay to grieve and feel hurt but never ever escape reality.
- Never let others define of who you are. Be unapologetically you.
- Never doubt yourself. Be confident and chase your dreams.
- Stop seeking others' approval for the sake of their happiness. Your happiness comes FIRST.
- Eliminate toxic people in your lives. You don't need them, instead treasure those people who genuinely love and care for you.

Title: As Dust Dances
Series: Play On #2
Author: Samantha Young
Release date: August 7, 2018
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

Samantha Young has written a story saturated with emotion on every page. A story that will make you mourn right along with Skylar as she searches her soul during the lowest point in her life. Many heroines in romance have a tragic backstory, but there's something so vulnerable and raw about this character that grips you and won't let you go from the very start. This book was calling my name and begging me to read it when I saw the synopsis. The idea that this famous pop star dropped off the face of the earth after a personal tragedy, and began living on the streets was so intriguing to me. Her love of music was so deeply embedded, it became her undoing and salvation all at the same time. Which I think holds true in real life. There's such power in a song because it can bring you back to your most painful memory, or your biggest blessing.

Skylar and her band created music that placed the world in the palm of her hand, but the tradeoff was her privacy and her happiness. With success, she began a downward spiral with anxiety, depression, and finally devastation when she lost the one person who she loved most in the world. Piece by piece, as her story is revealed, her pain is resurrected. It's a ghost that haunts her relentlessly. But this life she chose on the streets helped her to go into survival mode rather than let her dark thoughts consume her.

This was my life right now. I liked it like this. I worried about important, basic-necessity stuff and all the other shit went away. I’d keep being smart as long as it meant not having to think about who I used to be.

When Killian O’Dea, an A&R exec at Skyscraper records approaches her, she wants nothing to do with him or his offer to re-enter the music world. However, no one knows better than her that desperate times call for desperate measures. After getting viciously attacked, she knows that her solitary, dangerous life must come to an end. Killian comes off as very abrupt and ruthless in the beginning. You don't see a lot of tenderness or sympathy, he gives her tough love, and lots of it.

Skylar is very much a straight shooter, and even though his bluntness and hard truths drive her up the wall at times, I think she feels a grudging respect and understanding from the start. He's a man who knows what he wants, and goes after it with everything he has. They were similar in so many ways in the beginning of the book, which led to a lot of sparks flying. Their snark, unbending personalities, and stubbornness were not a good combination for creating a fast friendship. But over time, they would make cracks in each others' defenses and their relationship was able to evolve. When they traded barbs, you could see how close they could be if they just let their guards down and let each other in.

“There you go acting all noble, taking the sarcasm out of my sails.”
“Not even a hurricane could knock the sarcasm out of you.”
I nodded. “You’re learning.”

But even when she's cursing him for his insensitivity, there's always a very evident attraction that fuels their interactions. The burn between Skylar and Killian simmers at just the right temperature, with a combustible heat that explodes at the perfect boiling point. Because they had a professional relationship, they tried to ignore their growing feelings for one another, and that's where the tension between them got so increasingly exciting. Besides the fact that it would be unprofessional of them to start a romantic relationship, trusting her heart with this man would be the worst thing she can do. She knew from experience what it's like to have a man choose his career over her well-being and happiness. She's seen Killian's obsession to gain his Uncle's respect at the label, and she doesn't want history repeating itself. Would he make her his priority if put to the ultimate test?

I loved this story from beginning to end. I can honestly say that there's not one thing I would change about it. Skylar went through hell and back and came out the other side a stronger woman because of it. She learned to forgive herself for words never said, to love herself first in order to live her best life, and let go of things that couldn't be changed to move into the future. It was a healing process, not just for her, but for Killian as well. To see him soften right before our eyes and lay himself bare for her melted my heart. He wasn't perfect by any means throughout the book, in fact there were moments he deserved a good smack for his selfishness. All along he thought he was saving her, but in the end it was clear that they were saving each other. Killian and Skylar's story really resonated with me in the best way possible, and gave me those romantic chest flutters that I so rarely feel anymore. I can't recommend this one enough, it's a must read!!

Somehow, he’d helped me find my soul again. It would never be whole, but I think that’s what life was about. You started out with a pure, whole soul and life took hits at it. It charred it, bruised it, and sometimes even smashed it to dust. But there were ways to hold on to it and to even piece it back together in new ways. To add patches of light to a shadowy bruise, to stitch a crack with a little thread of joy.

Skylar used to be a teeny-rock-band-super-star in America. Now she's sleeping in a tent in the back corner of a cemetery in Glasgow.

After 'fleeing' from home she spent a year backpacking through Europe and ended up in Scotland, singing and playing her beloved guitar on the streets to make enough money to eat, use the laundromat and maybe shower once a week in the swimming center.

Killian sees her singing one day and he wants her. For his uncle's record company. He needs her. He needs to prove to his idiot of an uncle that he's got what it takes to be the best in the business. But Skylar doesn't want to be famous anymore. But she also doesn't want to waste away or worse on the streets ...

What will happen with Skylar in Scotland??
Will she find her Happily Ever After??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺

... book #2 in this amazing new Sam Young series! (all standalones with no connected characters. Even though Killian's adorable sister Autumn will get her own story in book 2.5!)

I loved AS DUST DANCES!
(LoL - from the cover and title, I kinda somehow assumed this was a ballet romance! It's not!☺)

I already mega-adored the first book PLAY ON, and this one was just as amazing.

So heartbreaking and sad and ugh! The whole first part of the book had this sad-and-wet-Glasgow-autumn-day mood to it.

You just want Skylar to accept whatever it is that Killian is offering. She has to get off the streets. It's too dangerous. And she's so effing talented. She needs to be heard.

But of course she has her reasons for escaping home and for living the way she is living at the moment....

Killian has quite a bit of work to do until he can convince her of signing with him. And to not hate him anymore.

Killian is a very ... strange person in the beginning. We only have Skyar's POV, so we don't have any idea what the what with him. He's somewhat fascinating, but also so very unfeeling and cold and secretive-ish. He doesn't talk much. But of course we also know that we'll fall for him along the way.

What can I say - I just loved this book!
Amazing romance! With allll the feels!!! ♥

So many beautiful moments. Sad moments. Heartbreaking moments. Scary moments. Music moments. I loved it.

I wouldn't mind if Netflix or Hollywood came along to make something out of it!!!
(I can already see the first few minutes of the movie with Skylar busking on the streets of Glasgow, mixed with her remembering her rock star life on stage all glamoury and colorful!)

AS DUST DANCES was a heartbreakingly beautiful & emotional music love story. About a girl who is finally ready to face the past and to fight for a very happy future ... Run to your nearest amazon to see if she finds her happily ever after with Killian - but get your own hottie Scottie - this one is MINE! ☺

If I had to name some things I didn't love-love ... I would've loved to get Killian's POV. We just don't get much from him. He's not a talker and we don't get to know him enough to be an amazing book hero. I needed a bit more from him. His POV would've been perfect, but also maybe some more talking or ... no idea. We don't hear anything from him and suddenly he's in love with Skylar? It was a bit weird because we just don't understand what he was thinking all along. Yes, we saw his looks and a bit of his feelings, but I needed more.

And then the Britishness of the book. Skylar is from America and the expression living or sleeping rough is used a million times. That's not really American. It might be used by Americans too, but I wanted a change of expression at least a few times. Sleeping on the streets or anything other than sleeping rough. It didn't make the book bad, it just got on my nerves a bit after the 3rd time.☻

Really loved this book...there was a certain beauty and sadness to the story...but it wasn't really an overly-angsty or depressing read though...which was definitely good for me.
I connected well on an emotional level with the characters... especially Skylar .....I thought Killian and August had the perfect brother and sister relationship (both protective and loving)...there was also plenty of lighthearted moments here to balance out the more serious aspects of the storyline....I just really..really enjoyed reading this book...I do love this authors writing style so very much and the rockstar elements in this story also made for a great read IMO.
This book can be read as a standalone but I do believe the next one is about August...and I really want to read that fairly soon....maybe next (turns out that one is a novella/questionable reviews?..so maybe I might hold off for now).

p.s. the slow build romance was right up my alley as well...Killian and Skylar were good for each other...great chemistry too.

4-4.5 ⭐'s

“You’re mine. And I’m yours.”

I just love Samantha Young's books and I actually don't think I've ever read a book of hers that I haven't enjoyed. However, for some unknown reason, I was hesitant about this one. I wish I could explain why I didn't just dive in but I'm glad I finally got to it because I was hooked right away.

Skylar had finally made it to the big time when a horrific event gave her the final push she needed to run away from it all. She ran far and wide but never from the music. It kept her company until a certain hunky record executive comes after her. And after another horrific event happens, it was a good thing he did.

Likes:

💓I know it's weird but I enjoyed reading about Skylar's struggles. How she was able to take care of herself (for the most part) was intriguing.
💓Her song writing.
💓How well Killian took care of her.
💓AUTUMN!! She was amazing!
💓Brandon was sooo sweet.
💓Skylar standing up to Killian's Uncle.
💓Eve...she definitely grows on you!

Dislikes:

💔There was a lot of build up.
💔I wanted needed Killian's POV.
💔Micah - blah!

I loved how all the drama worked out. Killian was pretty amazing. I thought maybe I saw hints of Braden in there...lol! (I don't think I'll ever get over Braden!)

❗Next up is...AUTUMN's book. I'm sooo excited to see what Samantha Young comes up with for her. Hold On is scheduled to be released in March 2019.

★5 STARS★

I dare say anyone would disagree about the extraordinary life American born Skylar Finch has led. A onetime international singing sensation, she now scrapes by busking on the streets of Glasgow. The pressure of fame and a shattering family tragedy led her to turn her back on the life she once knew. Such is Samantha Young’s writing we are never in doubt at how harsh and cruel the perils of homelessness are and the dangers being faced on a daily basis.

Skylar is brave and resilient but it’s her fragility that made it impossible for me to feel anything but support and compassion for her. She’s survived this far by keeping her head down, but she hasn’t escaped the notice record company executive Killian O’Dea.

Its Killian job to recognize talent and the scrappy busker he’s seen on occasion has an abundance of it. Her voice is stunning but it’s her original pieces that strike a chord within his frosty being. Feisty and defensive it takes all patience he doesn’t have to persuade her to meet with him. He’s driven by success to the point of somewhat ruthlessness and he sees Skylar as a means to get him there. As expected with their strong personalities the two clash, but he gives her his card in the hopes that she’ll see sense.

Confronted with just how chilling life on the street can be for a female Skylar has no choice but to turn to Killian for help. She mistakes his directness for fury at her naivety, but his anger is in fact directed towards those who meant to harm her. He means to help her get on her feet and in return for her to produce an album. It’s not an easy decision for her to make. In doing so it means coming face to face with the ghosts of her past that have haunted her, but she’s also confused and unsettled by her range of emotions evoked by the being in the presence of Killian.

Skylar & Killian’s relationship is one that defines romance for me. It’s confronting the ugliness we sometimes see in ourselves and having someone love us in spite of it. It’s the rawness of our pain and having someone who makes it their mission to sooth it. I adored their chemistry and intensity but even more so the growth they made as individuals and as a couple.

Young did not just write a novel, she composed a compelling love song that captured me from its first note to its last.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to run away from your current life and start again, somewhere where nobody knows you?

From the age of 14 years old Skylar wanted to make it big with her band. Her mother supported her dream 100% and dedicated all of her spare time, making huge financial sacrifices to help Skylar realise her dream. When they finally made it big she finally had everything she ever wanted or did she?

Have you heard of the saying ‘be careful what you wish for?’ The thing that you desire the most is not always what it seems. Once Skylar was ‘living the dream’ she realised that it was nothing like she imagined. She loves writing songs and performing but that is only one part of being famous. It’s all the other crap the comes with it she doesn’t like, her privacy is important to her but hard to have when she feels like she lives under a microscope.

When everything begins to fall apart and tragedy strikes, Skylar decides she has had enough of being a pop star and pretty much takes off with the clothes on her back and goes completely off the grid. In 18 months she goes from living an indulged pop star life in LA to being homeless, busking in Glasgow. This is how she meets Killian O’Dea.

Killian works in A&R at a record label and once he heard Skylar busking on the street he knew he wanted to work with her. Convincing her to agree is another thing. When circumstances bring her to his door, he finally gets his way. Once again Skylar finds herself doing the opposite of what makes her happy.

There is an undeniable connection between Killian and Skylar, deeper than either of them have experienced before. They both have very tragic pasts that further cements their bond as they find themselves opening up to each other. Skylar may be basking in love now but she knows that she is sacrificing her own happiness for the interests of other people. Just like she did before.

You can’t run away from your past forever and when the time comes to face everything she left behind it is completely overwhelming. The urge to run away again is looking good right now… When will someone put her happiness first and love her enough to want what’s best for her?

This was a fantastic read from Samantha. I loved the complex, multi layered characters. I loved how the relationship between Killian and Skylar evolved and how much it changed him, I loved who he was with her. A fabulous reading experience!

This book was a bit of a sneak attack. I just liked Play On and didn’t know what to expect from AS DUST DANCES but it started so very strong that I was grabbed almost immediately.

Skylar, the female protagonist has such an unusual story, she’s a successful lead singer of a band, or she was 20 months ago. When the book starts she’s been living homeless, on the streets of Glasgow for nearly six months. From there, everything in the reader needs more, needs answers. Skylar was the kind of strong heroine that isn’t in your face, she pulls her strength and confidence out of the bag at the important moments and I really identified with that.

The story takes you into the world of record labels, A&R people and Skylar finding herself being discovered again. Killan is her grumpy, overtly professional and sometimes rude record label boss. Their story isn’t predictable and there are some fantastic friendships that are in the fore in this story, friendships from the past and new ones. As this story reaches its culmination there are some good twists that kept me holding my breath, I loved that.

The heat between Skylar and Killian is exceptional, slow-burning and just fantastic to read. I believed every emotion and spat between them. This was the kind of chemistry I love reading.

I’m pretty excited about the next book which is Killian’s sister, Autumn. AS DUST DANCES can be read as a complete standalone despite being part of a series. I recommend to all my contemporary romance loving friends.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

I'm in awe!!
Beautiful, amazing, good written, just loved this book so much! I'll re-read soon!
I loved main characters and second characters.
Skylar understood what she wanted to be happy but she was ashamed it wasn't what everyone expected from her. Then something awful passed and she couldn't be the same... She chooses to live alone and homeless, she couldn't forgive herself not being true to herself and her mother. But something beautiful was born from the painful experience... Beautiful lyrics and music....

Killian didn't disapointed, what a great, solid, faithful man, he was determined to win his woman I'm in love with him!!
Can't wait for next book!!!! I loved Autumn so much!

You're mine.
And I'm yours.

Music is magical.

It's not just words strung together or sounds of an instrument. It's something beyond what could be simply described. It's the only thing that can translate for your heart and soul. Music can reach past generations and even language barriers. We all love music, because it's the one thing that can make us all FEEL. It can connect us to our own memories, one's that we cherish in our hearts and one's that we would rather soon forget.

This book is a lot like music. It may be words on a page, but in reality it is like a song. It tells a story that reached into my heart, and won't let go anytime soon.

Skylar Finch is living life rough. Once a famed front woman of the band Tellurian, she has escaped reality into the lonely streets of Glasgow. Leaving her wealth and fame behind her, Skylar is no longer Skylar Finch. She is Busker Girl. Living on the streets, sleeping in cemeteries and singing songs for pocket change is a vast difference from almost 2 years ago, when she had everything, but lost it all.

I wasn't trying to "get found" on the streets of Glasgow by having my bestie film me on his camera phone and upload it to my You Tube channel. I was busking so I could buy a meal for the night.

Living life alone on the streets is a dangerous one, a lesson that she learned the hard way. Skylar knew that it was time to come out of hiding, but she wasn't ready for the limelight quite yet. Unfortunately the only out that she had laid in the hands of the man that's been stalking her on the streets during her performances: Music exec, Killian O'Dea.

One album. That's all he wanted. Skylar didn't want to return to the life that she hated, that exposed her and took everything that she loved away from her. But she had no other choice.

I'm trying to shame someone who doesn't need to be a homeless person, unlike the thousands of other poor souls in this country who don't have a choice but to sleep rough. You think I'm mocking you. You mock them every day.

To put it simply, Skylar resents Killian. He's cold and heartless. He doesn't care about how this choice affects her, he just wants his album.

But Killian has his own demons lurking in his past. Ones that have prevented him from letting others in. But as I mentioned before, music is the universal language and soon the songs start to tell their stories.

Watching Killian and Skylar working together on their music is sexy, sweet and very raw. They have both lost a lot in their lives, but music is their therapy. They begin to open up to each other and they find themselves becoming friends, but also so much more.

Your songs….There's a lot of pain in them. These things can turn to poison if you leave them inside to fester.

This book is a rollercoaster. It's not easy for these two. There's a lot at stake. But it was an absolutely DELICIOUS ride!!!

If you didn't get the chance to read The Fragile Ordinary, #1: you're fucking crazy, but #2 We get to see Sam's talent beyond novel writing. She's a poet, and we get to see that talent boldly in TFO. But now we get to see Sam's song writing abilities and IT BLEW ME AWAY!!!!!

If music is a passion of yours, you HAVE TO READ THIS!!!! It's raw, it's sexy, and it moves you in ways that only hearing that song that's tethered to your soul can. READ. IT.

Sam has been slaying me with all her releases the last two years. I never thought that after reading the Dublin Street series, that her talent could surpass with where she started. But she continues to surprise me, push me, and deliver heartbreaking stories that I won't soon forget.

To be sincere, I missed Sam Young terribly. Her “On Dublin Street” series is one of my all time favorites and every book belonging to her hits the right spot for me. She nails the characters, the story, the plot and everything in between to make that particular book awesome and memorable.

“As dust dances” is her recent release and I loved it because of the complexity of the characters and the emotions they managed to pass on to readers. Maybe the plot was not extremely complicated, but what it transmitted is something I won’t forget easily, because it has depth and meaning. I considered it a lesson to be learned 🙂

Skylar is living on the streets, with no money to have a decent meal. She is running from certain events that happened to her, which will come to us gradually, as the plot progresses. With only her Taylor by her side, she is sleeping in a cementery, busking and singing on the streets, leaving her famous days behind. Some time ago, she rocked the music stages all over the world with her band, but now she has nothing left. Why? We will have to find out by staying by her side. One day, Skylar is approached by Killian, a young business man who seems interested in her music and voice and offers her a second chance in this industry. Being on the run, Skylar is reluctant and doesn’t want the past to reach her again, but after some events that really took a toll on her, she will be back in the music industry, at Killian’s record label, recording an album. Between them sparks will fly, tension will built and they will see each other in a very odd situation, to fall in love when least expected. Everything about them will come gradually, building trust and breaking down wall which were strong for many years.

The 2 are a very dynamic and contrasting couple, but the further we go in getting to get to know them, the more we learn how alike they are. As mentioned above, Skylar is running from her past, from her band, from the memories that hunt her every second. She is hurt, angry, scared and very remorseful. She is aware of her faults and of all the things she did wrong, but now she knows that time can’t be reverse and bad things can’t be prevented from happening. All this built up guilt will consume and overwhelm her. That is why she punished herself by living on the streets, far from fame, technology and people who might know her story. Killian appears in an important moment in her life, when she managed to realize that living a busker life will not lead to anything good. He too has issues, having to practically raise his sister because of the death of their parents and always live in his uncle’s shadow. He is constantly proving himself and always lacks something to achieve his goal. His dream is to be successful in the music industry and I believe Skylar is his greatest achievement so far, both professionally and personally.

I loved the way they were together, their lines exchange, their tension, discussions and sensitive moments. Skylar managed to open up to Killian about her most awful moments and her vulnerable side was visible the most with him, while Killian changed from the “icicle man” to the sweet and funny guy he trully is. They both had masks that needed to come off eventually, but not finding the right person to do so, this task seemed impossible at the moment. Their love story is intense, sweet and very passionate. They fight as they love each other, they speak up their minds and are not afraid of the outcome. They think so much alike and I loved their interactions and possessive moments, especially Killian’s ones. He can get very jealous sometimes, which pleased me immensely. I connected so much with Skylar in terms of emotions, fears and uncertainties. Her ups and downs, aspects she is not 100% sure about, reminder me of myself and I wanted to reach out to her, to tell he it’s OK to feel this way.

Sam Young managed to reach my heart with this story, and even if there were parts when I felt emotionally drained, I loved it and would read it again if I had the chance. This book can be very enlightening, because the depth of the feelings has a great impact on the readers and leads them towards an emotional roller coaster. You never get tired of feeling, even if you connect with Skylar’s grief and lost or with Killian’s rage and emotions, you are constantly feeling and trying to understand and connect… Exhausting, but extremely satisfying at the end of the day. Love it:)

This book was so well written... I have no words to express my feelings right now. ❤️
The lyrics of the songs were so good!!! I usually don’t like reading lyrics without having the song on my mind, but this time, I didn’t mind (this sounds funny).
However the story was a little bit tragic considering what the main female character has been through, but I’m glad everything worked out fine for her in the end. 👍

I am in the minority for this one. Ugh...I think it was the instalove between Skylar and Killian that kinda killed it for me. I also think it was kinda odd that Skylar used a lot of sayings, words, etc that are mostly used in the UK when she was American. I’m so bummed I didn’t love this one since I liked the first one so much.

4.5 “You’re mine. And I’m yours” stars

I love this book! A beautifully written, heartwrenching read that is dramatic yet hopeful, with a fantastically slow-burning, chemistry-filled love story. A rockstar romance with a difference, this is the story of a broken girl fighting to overcome her demons, and I was captivated from start to finish.

This is technically book #2 of the Play On series, but it’s a complete standalone, so feel free to dive on in!

Skylar Finch used to have it all. As the lead singer in an American pop-rock band she was beautiful, successful and wealthy, with the world at her feet. But despite having worked hard to achieve her dream, she was also miserable. A series of heartbreaking events saw her walk away from it all, completely disappearing from the life she had, and the lives of those who cared about her. It’s now 18 months later and she is living on the streets of Glasgow, busking to make enough money to eat and spending her nights sleeping rough, hidden away in a cemetery. But despite the hardships, she is happy to no longer be in the spotlight, and she exists with her guitar and her music and her quiet anonymity.

And then Killian O’Dea walks into her life. A broody, ambitious record executive, it’s his job to find new talent, and Skylar is his latest target. He approaches her with an offer, but Skylar wants nothing to do with what he is offering. She has already lived part of her life in the spotlight and hated being so exposed – a target of the paparazzi, with the whole world privy to her private life. But when the violently brutal danger of her lifestyle becomes all too real, Killian is her only option and she reaches out to him for help. But with his help comes a price, she needs to record an album for him.

It seems harsh, but with little other option, Skylar is hurled back into the world that she has tried so hard to avoid. After almost two years of hiding from everything, she is suddenly forced back into reality, finally facing her grief and her demons, and dealing with the prospect of the celebrity life that she has tried so hard to move away from. It’s terrifying, but by her side is the broody-but-gorgeous Scot with the hot accent, and his adorably perky sister, both of who seem willing to do anything to support Skylar and keep pushing her forward. And as Killian works with her to help her draw out her emotions and write the music that slowly begins to heal her, everything begins to change.

It felt like we existed on some lonely part of this planet where there was only music and creativity.

OMG, this book! I was sucked into Skylar’s story from the very beginning and I struggled to put it down. The full extent of all that she’s been through isn’t immediately revealed, but I could still feel her pain as the small pieces are unveiled and we are faced with the heartbreaking reality of her life on the streets and what drove her to it. And then the journey that she goes on once Killian comes into her life and turns it upside down once again is beautifully written.

Killian is such an intriguing character, and I love that the book is written entirely from Skylar’s POV because it gives him this air of mystery that I thought was fantastic! With his broody stand-offishness and cold looks, we never really know what he is thinking, and it makes the little glimpses we get of his softness something truly special.

What must it be like to be loved by him? I imagined it a heady thing, winning the love of a man who offered it so sparingly.

Killian and Skylar together are a beautiful thing to watch as they work together to create her album, slowly and reluctantly, yet surprisingly easily, opening up to each other. Killian has his own demons that he is trying to deal with, and just as he is there for Skylar when she needs him, she, too, helps him to face up to his past and the realities of his life, and the partnership that they develop is really sweet – though it’s fraught with tension as the two of them battle the sizzling chemistry between them, and I felt every single spine-tingling moment of it!

I wanted Killian O’Dea.
I couldn’t help myself.
I was tethered to him somehow and I didn’t think I’d be able to cut myself loose so easily.

The romance is a slow burn, and the build-up is delicious! The sexual tension simmers perfectly with hints of the intensity to come, and when it happens it’s all kinds of hot and beautifully emotional.

“I knew you cared about me.”
“What I feel is a little stronger than that, Skylar.” He stared at me with pure need. “You’re mine.”

But the reality of their situation comes crashing down around them all-too-soon. And when put to the test, both Killian and Skylar will need to figure out what they want and where their loyalties lie, and they’ll need to fight hard to get it.

This is such a great read. Samantha Young sucked me right in, and didn’t let go of my heart until the final page. I felt everything that Skylar went through and I thought that her journey back to herself was beautifully written. The love story is a big part of that, and I fell madly in love with the surprisingly swoony Killian who (eventually) opened his heart so beautifully to Skylar, and the two aspects of the story blended together perfectly to create something really special.

I loved the inclusion of the side characters. From the sweet to the fun to the evil and the heartbreaking, each of them have their part to play and each of them bring something meaningful to the story . I’m hoping that Killian’s sister, Autumn gets her own book. She’s such a fun character, and with hints dropped for her, I’m hoping that we get to see more of her soon!

I loved this book. It broke my heart, healed it, and made me fall in love, leaving me with a big goofy grin at the end.

Absolutely beautiful – 4.5 stars.

Loved

I really enjoyed this one so much!
The teasers are so intriguing.

There are so many talented people out there who can relate in songs and all. I'm not really one of them I mean I can relate, but I need time. Sometimes I don't even get what the songs about while other people have it all figured out. That's so impressive! I wish I could be like that!

I have a love for a few country's and one of them is Scotland we visited last year. We went to Edinburgh and took the train to Stirling and Glasgow. So I was imagining the city while reading this one! It just makes me want to go back.

Back to the review!
I love Skylar all the bad she went through I can relate! I understand that she came to a point she just didn't have a choice. I'm so relieved she did find a way to work her way through it all! I don't think you can ever heal from such a horrible happening, but you can try to go further.

The banter between Killian O'Dea and Skylar Finch were so fun! I also liked how she choose to name him Killian sometimes and the other times O'Dea for him it was easy to figure out if something went wrong.

I liked their journey very much even though it wasn't an easy one! It was one worth the take!

It is becoming increasingly evident that with each book this author publishes, she manages to not only deliver a well crafted story, but she draws me in so effortlessly that I find myself utterly engrossed in the lives of the characters that I read it in almost one sitting. (I do have to sleep, after all.)

To me, Skylar's journey was one that felt beautifully tragic and real at the same time. What I mean to say is that, the very realistic depiction of a young woman who chooses to turn her back on what ought to have been her dream career for so long made me feel such sadness. But at the same time, I found myself nodding in recognition of the very real way one's dreams sometimes turn out to be nothing like what you had imagined - I am sure I am not the only one who can relate to that part. Toss in the grueling experiences Skylar has to go through while busking on the streets of Glasgow, her meeting Killian and their subsequent journey as a couple, and you have one of the most beautiful stories - in my opinion - that you will have the pleasure of experiencing.

Nothing felt forced or overly done as far as this book goes. It was emotional from page one to the very end. I loved the fact that the author also addresses the harsh realities of homelessness and mental illness; to me, that was a very bold and eye-opening move, and I applaud her for doing both.

There are also some very endearing and funny moments throughout this book that will leave you chuckling and flat-out laughing at times - it made for an interesting read, too, where you could not guess what would happen once you turned the next page. And do not even get me started on the chemistry between Skylar and Killian! Woot!

Honestly, I want you to pick up this book today and read it. And if you are already a fan of this author, what the heck are you waiting for?

4 STARS
I was tethered to him somehow and I didn’t think I’d be able to cut myself loose so easily.

As Dust Dances was a gripping, beautiful and emotional romance. It was a story of pain and perseverance, of strength and second chances, and of love where you least expect it. It also had a delicious enemies to lovers vibe in a way that only Samantha Young could deliver.
I glared at him with my good eye. “Fine. Hospital. I’ll add it to the list to tell the doctor.”
“What?”
“Of injuries. Eye, ribs, wrist, and now this insistent, condescending pain in my ass.”

Once upon a time Skylar Finch had a taste of success when her band became famous. Skylar loved making music, but she was unprepared for what the fame will bring.

She tried to deal with the fact that what was once her dream was now making her miserable, but then a terrible tragedy broke her completely. Now Skylar is homeless and busking on the streets of Scotland. Having left everything behind, including her identity, she's trying to move on while hiding in plain site. No one knows who she is here, and she's happy that way. The last thing she expects is for her music to catch the eye of a music executive, or for him to stir something in her she long thought dead.
The kiss tasted of longing, frustration, desperation, and punishment. A punishment of each other for having feelings we knew we shouldn’t have.

The chemistry between Skylar and Killian is instant and fiery, though both of them try to deny it. Killian bullies her off of the streets and into a contract with the record label that his uncle owns. Still trying to prove himself to a man that barely tolerates him let alone respects him, Killian is determined to make Skylar a success. The attraction between them is one that they're both attempting to deny. Their relationship begins as a deliciously angsty push and pull. Killian tries to keep it professional, and in doing so comes off as cold and calculating when he's anything but.

Skylar was one of my favorite heroines. This woman is a survivor and music is truly a part of her. I loved the way that Samantha Young weaves the music into the story. It was effortless and the perfect icing on top of an already amazing story. Skylar has already survived so much pain in her young life; the more you learn about her, the more you connect to her and root for her.

The romance was perfectly paced and developed. It wasn't instant and it wasn't a super slow burn either. It developed in such a way that just felt real. You feel the connection between these two characters immediately, but it only burns hotter as the story develops. You get to see more of Killian's softer side as he stops fighting the inevitable. Their romance is forbidden and they attempt to keep it a secret, you can't help but read on as you sit on pins and and needles as you wait for that other shoe to drop.

This was a perfectly swoony and emotional story of love and sacrifice, and pain and perseverance. I adored it and only hope we'll be getting more books in this series.
