TW// rape

Volume two is a bit slower than volume one. It starts to get into the political side of fantasy and contains a lot of conversations building up to the main characters being fully in love with each other. I’m hopeful that the pace will pick up more in volume three.

This continues to be messy and melodramatic in ways that are equally problematic and compelling. Luc does a lot of groveling in this one, and while I'd argue Agnes needs to do some too, I do respect the ways she looks out for herself, her family, and her country. All this culminates in a very sweet scene of reconciliation towards the end that leaves me excited for more.

Miscommunication breakthroughs...

Despite the series being built around a moment of non-consent followed by many moments of non-consent, it surprising how much we're covering a couple can make. A foundation of misunderstanding transforms the whole situation into something feeling more sad. There are moments where I feel like all this revealed miscommunication is more of a justification for something the author really wanted to write more than a natural progression. Despite that all, I still find myself guiltily liking the series.

This kind of miscommunication is totally up my alley. The angst. The blatant obvious motivations but clueless characters. I am joy.

Recap: she wakes, her dad is there, tells her she's to be crown princess, she's like what and they prepare to leave. Prince Luc shows up and begs her to stay, she's prepared to walk away, he beats around the bush and his brother shows to explain the affair was to root out dissenters. Luc casts a vow spell to bind him to her, she finally agrees to marry him. They marry, first night, he doesn't go to do the deed so she binds him and jerks him off. Over the few days she'll kiss him now and then but they're not close. A party happens, her second cousin shows up and she's familiar with him. Luc is jealous. Dancing, more jealousy. Ending with them talking, she shares she's hurt that he doesn't look at her the way he looked at L. He bursts out that his feelings for her make it impossible to smile. Ending with them kissing.

Hmm. I kinda liked it and I kinda didn’t? Agnes wakes up after she threw herself off the balcony to find her father worried about her. In a jumble of one sided conversations she finds out she’s to marry the prince after the whole fiasco of his evil fiancée trying to kill her. Turns out Lucilleur does in fact love her and tries to convince Agnes. We spend the rest of the novel with Agnes and her insecurities that plague her because the Prince has never shown her the affection he showed his ex. The Prince is trying, not well enough, to show he loves her even though he did marry her. 🙄 I liked that they are trying to overcome all they’ve been through in the love department. I don’t like that the actions taken against each other are kinda not acknowledged, like at all. They didn’t just have sex. It was all non-con on both sides before they got married. After it’s just awkward. 😑

I understand why this manga received a lot of negative reviews. The first few chapters are messed up. The characters are extremely morally flawed and toxic, but there's something about it that pulls you to read more. I don't like miscommunication tropes, but their love story gave me so much angst and heavy emotions that I barely felt from other dark romances. I felt the characters' pain and their unrequited love. I'm rating this book based on how this novel made me feel.

Ugh. The first one was so entertaining and this was disappointing. The politicking gets so convoluted and there are long stretches of exposition-as-dialogue to plump up the plot/worldbuilding, but it doesn't have any foundation. It takes forever for people to 1) ask relevant questions, and 2) actually get a direct answer.

Story couldn't decide if it wanted Agnes to be a spicy bitch or a broken-hearted heroine. Luc is dull as white bread. Won't read the next.

this one was better just but also the same because at least there wasn’t SA (i think), but they did spend 75% of the volume going back and forth of him saying he wants her so badly (so i guess this is a spoiler), honestly i don’t even remember what happens in the last 25%, but they probably sleep together because ✨smut series✨

Now things got a tad TOO political, not enough sex scenes, and I can't believe how many pages were spent on the MMC being incapable or wording his feelings in a decent way. But, hey, melodrama
! I just hope the next book gets spicier.

messy but surprisingly sweet given the whole volume one situation? it kinda feels like the first volume was the author getting the mandatory spice out of the way so they could pursue their true passion for melodrama. the politics are kinda bananas tho

cute short read

This wasn’t my favorite volume in the series but i’m excited to see where it keeps going. The romance between has been getting better so i am hopeful.

This one cleared some things from the first volume but also simultaneously made things more confusing? I do not know what is going on but I will read the next one. The one panel where the heroine’s dad is smirking at these two idiots and their complete inability to communicate was the highlight of the whole thing. The pair matches each other’s energies for sure.

Well now, this is an unexpected twist. It's understandable how Agnes would have trouble believing Lucilleur, even if her own father and his brother are also pleading his case, though her father is thankfully ultimately on her side and willing to support whatever she chooses. Lucilleur takes things a bit to the extreme. Some curiosity if with the wedding and Lucilleur's new vow if Agnes' side of their engagement contract is reinstated. It's never addressed directly, but it seems like there would be additional benefits with the locations, let alone faithfulness, that would be of benefit both to the political factions as well as to themselves personally should anything happen again in the future. Lucilleur seems to have more of a jealous streak than previously thought possible too, which is sort of hilarious. Hopefully, they both learn to open up and communicate better, especially after affirming they do love each other.
