Oregon, USA. Patrick Edward Dunn has nothing left. Heading home in snowy weather after dropping off his kids, the fifty-something, three-time-divorcé is shocked when cars on the highway lose control and start crashing. And stopping to help a woman trapped in her vehicle, he only has seconds to save her as a logging truck hurtles right at them…

Holly Rebecca Winters doesn’t know what’s going on. Waking up with surprising bandages on her head and no memory of the last twenty-four hours, the psych hospital patient overhears staff worried about a suspicious power outage. So with her keepers distracted, the forty-three-year-old detainee grabs the chance for a desperate escape.

As Patrick’s ancient EMP-immune Chevy inches its way through the mayhem and brutal elements, he tries to help the injured. While Holly runs into rising danger, increasingly at risk of not making it off the frigid streets alive.

Sam J Fires is a #1 bestselling author of gripping post-apocalyptic and dystopian thrillers.

Her stories are driven by flawed, resilient characters forced to survive the unthinkable—when the power goes out, the world collapses, and every choice comes at a cost. Expect high-stakes tension, emotional depth, and characters who fight to the bitter end.

In real life, Sam would be the first to admit she probably wouldn’t last five minutes in one of her own worlds.

After The End Review of 7 Book Series

A decent enough read. There was a death of a character that saddened me because there were happy times ahead for him that he was unaware of. That didn’t sit right with me but I suppose that’s life. Felt as if the Doctor’s husband Richard’s character had a lot more to give & the Complex could have had a bigger part in the book too. I know characters have to die in books, however, there was a death towards the end that I felt was totally unnecessary. All in all I was beginning to lose sympathy for Holly at the end & losing respect for Pat. You can be a really nice helpful person without stupidly putting people in danger i.e when they were entering the town of Meadowview. Loved Isaac (Holly’s boy) who turned out to be a stand up character full of charm & sense. All his friends & the people living in the town were a great addition to the storyline. I was addicted to parts of this book but on the whole feel it could’ve been better. I hope you enjoy this book if you decide to read it. I know it has had some great reviews so please don’t let my personal opinion put you off. My actual score would have been 2.5 if that was possible.

I can't believe this book got such great reviews. I listened to the audio book. Besides the naivete of the main character, Patrick, taking Holly, an escaped psychiatry patient, under his wing, the storyline of Dr. Vera Burke chasing after Holly was over the top unbelievable. Dr. Burke's character sounded cartoonish. The dialogue of most of the characters was exaggerated, especially those of Patrick's ex-wives. What a waste of a potentially good storyline.

A great series. Sam J. Fires has written a great series with great characters who have taken an epic journey through a post apocalyptic landscape into the besieged town of Meadowview where it all comes together. Sam has wrapped up the series with a fine ending.

I only persevered to book three. A shame, as the story had potential. I found this to be very naively and not well written. I have read other post apocalyptic stories that were so much better. A lot of inconsistencies and unlikely that such a nice hero managed to marry some very heartless women.

This is an awesome book. I love this genre. The characters felt like family who was that type of book and they were successful and scared all those things, but they made it out. I love that kind of story.

With so few characters at the beginning, I wasn't sure this was for me. Well, I was wrong. What an amazing, strong person, Holly. turned out to be.
It's a wonderful read and an amazing finale'

Different than other EMP books

This book is different than other EMP books. It has more mystery aspects, less blatant violence. Good read books 1-7 together.

Very mediocre, especially the last 1/3 where character actions don't match personalities and the plot races ti a hurried conclusion. Would be better as a low budget TV series.
