The ONLY "forbidden" i thing about this book is the 17-year age gap, and the FMC is the BFF of the MMC. I use the term "forbidden" loosely as there were TWO "spicy"/"smutty" scenes by the time I got to 44% of the book.
It was cute, but it was taking me forever to read it because it was lacking in spice, smut.and romance. At 44%, they're STILL roommates who are denying their feelings. Nah... I'm out.
On top of that, it reinforces my thinking that the.csrtoon covers are books NOT to be read. I've yet been impressed, like, and/or recommend a book with those stupid cartoon covers. They're annoying along with their storylines!
A romance that felt very real-life and lackluster.
What bothered me about this: 1. The FMC and the MMC say multiple times ( + it's in the title) that the MMC will keep her SAFE, but he fails to keep this promise multiple times! I really asked myself multiple times if she only feels safe with him because he has muscles and is bigger than her. - The MMC hurts the FMC multiple times emotionally by not welcoming her into his home very rudely and saying that it is best for her to find somewhere else to live when he knows her situation (dangerous ex, his daughter left her in the lurch, very low on money and no other SAFE options) and she had stayed with him for only a few days at that point. Because drumroll.... He can't treat her good, because then he will give in to his forbidden feelings. OH NO, how horrible. - The MMC lets a man, that he finds creepy into his home just because that man says he is the FMC's boyfriend. Even though he knows about her dangerous ex, but doesn't know anything about a boyfriend and a few pages before said that he knows "how dangerous the world is for women" . To top if off he leaves her alone with this creepy man and then! when his daughter tells him that that is the dangerous ex he doesn't sprint down to help the FMC immediately. It honestly took way too long for him to have the right reaction to be labeled the FMC's protector or safe haven. -Even though the police are often helpless in cases of abusive exes, he could have gotten proactive with documenting proof of the abuse or safeguarding his home with cameras, alarms etc. or the FMC with safety gadgets etc. So the MMC really doesn't match his words with action, which really sets him apart from other book boyfriends that are labeled as "safe" or "protectors" -When the daughter/best friend is told about the secret relationship between the FMC and MMC by the dangerous ex who HACKED the FMC's phone he feels that it is best to fly out to his daughter.... Leaving the FMC alone at home. Any other book and this would have been the best moment to harm the FMC. Because the best friend goes radiosilent with the FMC and the actions of the ex are extreme, the FMC is naturally very emotional. The MMC decides to stay with his daughter for a few days without speaking to the FMC about it, leaving his girlfriend in emotional distress and even longer home alone... Unsafe. Also, he calls her once but is away multiple days. How romantic. - When the FMC decides to get proactive about doing something against the ex the MMC is not there to help, because he is with his daughter and barely checking in with his gf. - The only thing being done about the hacked phone is that the FMC buys herself a new one. Great. How did the ex even hack the old one? How did he know where the FMC lives?
2. The best-friend character
She is labeled as also overprotective of the FMC, but this isn't it. It feels like she projects her learning from her therapy onto the FMC's experience with her ex. Okay, good. But she is a shit friend.
"Irritation prickles along my skin. She kicked me out with only three days’ notice, insisting I move in with her dad. She abandoned the business we’d agreed to build together, to pursue her new job. Then she shows up here, unannounced, expecting Wyatt to be free, asking me to think about moving out of the one place that’s felt like home since I’ve lived in the city."
When she (the daughter/bf) gets to know that her dad is in love she asks the FMC to move out so that her dad can enjoy his relationship. Dude. The FMC has no money to move out, is being stalked/harassed by her ex and she has lived there for a very! short time.
And in the end she goes radiosilence with her best friend due to knowing about the forbidden relationship while being good with her dad. The double standard.
3. The spicy scenes They were off. They didn't feel natural or passionate at all. Especially in the MMC's POV they were interrupted by things that pertained to his daughter or his business. Not the vibe. And they weren't believable or fitting for the main character's situation. There were only two or three which is fine with me, but maybe not with other's since the story is supposed to be "forbidden".
4. The ex and his whole stalking/harassment spiel It didn't fit the character that there were times that he wasn't all over ruining the FMC's life. He disappeared a lot from the storyline and was able to hack a phone when he didn't have any access to it.

This is the third book in the Forbidden Fruit Street series and I don’t know how, but they just keep getting better. I absolutely froth over the characters Jen creates, and Poppy and Bailey were truly no exception. I ate their story up and was left wanting more, more, more! There is just something about an age gap, forbidden romance that gets me needing a cold shower immediately 🥵🔥🤣 and did I mention, NO third act breakup! 🙈😍
I love how the characters from the first two books were intertwined into this one and I found so much about this story so relatable and honest. It isn’t just a spicy romance (even though that component is HOT)! There is real emotional depth behind each characters story and I loved the vulnerability expressed by the main characters on their own journeys and also their path as a couple.
Thank you so much to @jenmorrisauthor for sending me an e-book copy to review - I am beyond grateful! 🙏🏻 this gorgeous book is out now and I highly recommend adding it (and books one and two) to your TBR 😜
My least favorite of the series so far. I’m not sure why other than it just felt super formulaic and overdone at this point. There are even subtle jokes between characters about it essentially being the same story as the other characters. The shame and concern about it being “wrong” was drawn out and the characters inner dialogue got old really quick. I skimmed a good portion of that and was left with…not much.
