Playing with Fire

Rate this book
Some monsters hunt in darkness. Others play with fire.

I've always known what I am—a monster who uses flame to deliver justice, who gets off on breaking pretty things. Leo Astrada is everything I shouldn't a brilliant programmer with an innocent soul and forbidden desires that match my own.

For two years, I've kept him close but untouched, telling myself that friendship was enough. But when someone nearly burns him alive in his own home, all my careful control goes up in smoke.

As we hunt his mysterious attacker through the dark corners of rural Ohio, I can't ignore how perfectly Leo breaks under my hands, how desperately he needs the pain only I can give him. Every cry, every surrender, every bruise makes him more mine.

But this arsonist isn't just another target to eliminate. They know my secrets—every kill, every trophy, every fire I've ever set. And they're determined to make Leo burn for the sin of loving a monster like me.

Sometimes the most dangerous flames are the ones you invite in.

Really good, as usual with this series. Dark, thrilling, and full of intrigue. Xavier has been a mystery for a while, always there, always ready to help but never giving much away. You could always tell he loved his brothers, but it never really extended past that: he did what he came to do and left. With Leo, we see a whole new side to him, and I like it!

This whole series has been unique and exciting. Each story is different at its core whilst continuing an overall plot of a family of vigilantes who even the score against people who don’t face justice. It’s really great.

I’m not going to lie, I was about up to here 🙋🏻‍♀️ with friggin Algerone and Maxime. I would have liked it if the pair of them could just go and jog on. Thought they were a pair of twats, ha, but then Algerone just had to go and do that, didn’t he! Maxime is still a piece of work though; he deserves to wallow for a bit. I’m glad we’ll be getting a story out of them, but if I’m honest, I’d rather know about Annie, Tattie, Yuri, and Nikita’s past and how they all came together. They intrigue me so much.

Really good book

“I'd give him the world if he asked for it. Or burn it down. Whichever he preferred.”
A Friends to Lovers, MM romance with vigilantes, hackers, pyro-s & fires! It's got awakening, first times, sweetness, obsession, suspense, unpredictable fun, revenge, action, hurt & love!
I loved Leo, Xavier & the Laskin-s hehe. I was busy, so I read this book over 4 days in the weekend, I savored my #ARC.

Xavier (23) is 1 of the triplets in the Laskin Vigilante family & techy. He's analytical, commanding with some sociopathic tendencies. He's a pyro-lover, uses fire to maintain balance of justice. X thought himself asexual, but gets a demi-awakening to Leo 😁.
Leo (26) is a ex-military hacker, now works for the Junkyard Dogs mercenaries. He's empathetic, (over)thinker, can be shy but bold too. He's a anime lover 🙌. L's got subby tendencies & X makes him feel like never before, makes him want to cross lines he shouldn't cross.

X+L's friendship has been such a sweet thing in background of series, the Slowburn collided into inferno here! I hadn't expected an almost romantic confession so early tho 😳. But seeing them grapple with these new feelings that had been building for months to new normal was fun. It wasn't too angsty due to it hah. I loved how obsessed they both are with eachother 🤭, the care 😍. A bottom dom is so cool to see. All Xs are bottoms 🤣🤣 (lol funny scene!). L+X so hot 🥵 & ooh wax play 😍 (I wanted to see fire play too 🥺).

After the 1st 25%, things got really going & had me hooked! The plot was actually unpredictable, dangerous. The twists, turns, questions, unexpected attacks & all. I loved seeing whole family together so much! The climax was heart racing & fiery 🔥🔥. There was 1 canon breaking seen in Comms (IYKYK), but other than that—so fun! Epilogue was sweet (not the 1 I'd expected lol). Excited for Mischa's book!

Story Ratings:

POV: 1st person, Dual POV
1) Enjoyed? —> So good! 5/5
2) The Characters: 5/5

It's that time of the year again! When another book comes out in one of my favorite gritty romance series of all time and you all have to put up with me babbling about it again 😌

Every time I review one of these books I feel like I have to hammer home again how consent forward and loving they are while also being plenty dark and gritty and emotional. I love this series.

This is Xavier's book, the last of the triplets, and is a friends to lovers forced proximity possessive (but in a non objectifying way) romance. I feel like Xavier was a bit of a mystery throughout this series and really liked him more than I thought it would.

Leo and Xavier together were simply explosive, the progression from friends to lovers felt 100% believable and not at all forced for weird (sometimes I'm reading friends to lovers and they feel like siblings. I'm sorry I LOVE the trope but it does). Not the case here Xavier and Leo are clearly made for each other. And side note but I found Xavier's crash out with Xander over liking vanilla s*x kinda funny, the poor man is totally good on the kink front but VANILLA?! 😂 the poor man couldn't cope

In every pairing of this series there is respect and love and such trust. It's dark romance handled with care and I'm a fan.

I absolutely adore the Wayward Sons series, that’s not a secret. And to say I was excited for this book is an understatement. While Shepard remains my favorite of the boys, X was definitely up the list.

This is the final book for the triplets Xion, Xander and Xavier. We’ve seen glimpses of Xavier and Leo through the other books, but now they have their own.

The relationship they have, has some very intricate details and I loved Evelands approach. All of the books have had some kind of mental health Rep and/or an lgbtq theme, which is always written wonderfully and realistically. This book touches on Asexuality and some D/s vibes. There is some spice to it, but nothing overwhelming or anything that takes away from the story, just enhances it.

I love the fire of this book. Literally. As a Leo and pyro myself I enjoyed reading a story kind of centered around it and its violence. That and it being used as justice.

There’s one more book in the series after this one, which is sad. But I’m incredibly excited for Misha’s story.

Prepare to be swept away by the love story of Xavier and Leo in Book 6 of the Wayward Sons series! This dynamic duo, featuring a fire-loving vigilante and his tech-nerd best friend, embodies the perfect blend of action, romance, and self-discovery. We first met Leo in Xion's book and secretly hoped he would end up with Xavier, and I was so excited when I found out it was actually happening.
This sets the ground for not one book but two upcoming books, and im counting the days.

Playing with Fire is the 6th book in the Wayward Sons series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This is the story of Xavier and Leo. I love these two so much. Xavier has always been a mystery to me but now I love him. I loved the plot and characters in this book. That is one of the things I really love about the series is the plot of each story. I love the dark and light that L Eveland brings to the characters. I can't wait for the next book book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

OKAY L EVELAND. I SEE YOU. I seeeee you!

Playing with Fire follows the last of the triplets and OH MY LOOOOOOORD, I love THIS TRIPLET…. Xavier and his precious Theo are essential personnel in my life from now on.

It’s not a single secret that I am obsessed with this series. Every book is a 10/10 for me and they keep getting better. I love the writing style, the flow of the story, the interconnectedness of the characters and their stories, and for this one? The fire play 😏🔥

[I’m pretty sure fire is the new k!nk 🤣 And it took all of 13 seconds for L Eveland to convince me of that.]

Playing with Fire, by L. Eveland, is the latest novel in the Waywardverse series. Just like each of the previous installments, Playing with Fire is full of great storytelling and interesting twists and turns. This is the story of Xavier and Leo, with more background story thrown in about Algerone and Maxime. I’ve been hooked on this series since Body Count, and will be sorry to see it end after the next novel. If you haven’t dipped your toe into this deep pool yet, then dive in fully and enjoy. As always, I couldn’t put it down till it was done, and then I wanted more. DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

this is a 4.75 for me. I think this was my favorite of the series when it came to not just characters/love interests but also for the plot. There was a moment or two where I actually teared up because of what was going on with the story. I loved how these two were basically stalking each other but had no idea the other one was stalking the other even with all their tech skills. Makes it kinda adorable in my opinion. I do wish there had been a moment when that had come up because I think it would have just been so funny and cute. I loved the two MCs together and separately. I loved how cold/aloof Xavier could be until Leo becomes involved then he becomes that icy hot passion that was very swoon worthy. As always, I love how the author explores but still respects their character's boundaries as they learn what works for each of them within the relationship, so everyone is happy. It just really strengths the bond between the two characters, all the couples really balance one another out.

This book had you on the edge of your seat as you tried to figure out who was responsible for the fires and how these two really smart people can't seem to stop him because he is equally as smart and talented when it comes to same set of skills Xavier and Leo have. So, it was like trying to outsmart yourself which meant there were some interesting twists and turns as well.

I loved the way the plot wrapped up for this storyline, but I know this is not the end of this universe and I am so intrigued by what is going to happen with the characters already introduced and the ones to come. This is a great series if you love MM, dark romances with vigilante unalivers with a wide spectrum of characters who are all different in their needs and obsessions and has strong found family vibes.

This book is about Xiaver who is a monster from a family of monster who likes to deliver justice in the form of fire. For the last two years he has formed a deep friendship with Leo an innocent but brilliant programmer who he has also been stalking as well. Friendship was enough for him because he didn't want to corrupt Leo with the darkness inside him and his life that is until the consequence of that darkness comes and nearly burns him alive in his own home. It is then that Xiaver's control snaps and he takes Leo to his house to keep him safe. It is then for both of them their suppressed desire starts burning up between the two of them and they finally become more than just friends. But as they are burning up the sheets, they are also trying to do everything they can to try and track down this arsonist who seems to know all of Xiaver's secrets and seems to always be one step ahead of them with their main target being Leo for the sin of loving a monster like Xiaver. Now Xiaver has always had total control over the fire and all the destruction it can bring but this may be one fire that he can't put out before it burns up everything that he knows and loves.

I received this as an arc in exchange for an honest review.

“They weren’t supposed to burn—but oh, how they did.”
Review by Holly

📚 Book: Playing With Fire
✍️ Author: L. Eveland
🔥 Spice Level: High (Possessive dom vibes, emotionally charged scenes, 🔥🔥🔥🔥)

📖 Synopsis (Spoiler-Free)
Playing With Fire finally gives us the long-awaited love story of Leo and Xavier—two characters who’ve lingered in the background of previous books, quietly stealing the show with their banter and chemistry. Now front and center, we get to see what truly makes them tick.

Leo is methodical, a thinker, the kind of person who breaks everything down into logic and structure. Xavier is instinct-driven, all intense emotion and heat, ruled by protective instincts he doesn’t fully understand. What happens when fire meets formula? A slow burn that absolutely erupts.

Their romance is a dance between control and surrender, understanding and chaos, and the result is as emotionally resonant as it is scorching hot.

⚠️ Spoilers Below!
Leo and Xavier's Connection: Their relationship has been hinted at through several books, but here we see the full picture—and it’s beautiful. Leo’s precision and emotional walls meet Xavier’s raw desire and deeply buried protectiveness, creating something that neither of them was ready for, but both needed.

Xavier's Possessiveness: Possibly one of the most compelling parts of the story. He doesn’t fully understand why he reacts the way he does to Leo, especially in public or around others, but it’s visceral—and Leo eats it up.

Spicy Scenes: Xavier’s dominance in bed was on another level in this book. He’s not necessarily controlling outside of it, but when the doors close? Oh boy. It’s intense, emotional, and incredibly satisfying.

Emotional Resolution: There's a moment near the end where Leo starts to doubt if Xavier is with him because of instinct or choice. The way Xavier chooses him—not once, but repeatedly—left me emotional and so satisfied.

💬 Favorite Elements
The depth of their bond, even before anything romantic began.

Leo’s quirky, technical way of viewing the world, and how it contrasted (and complemented) Xavier’s emotional instinct.

Xavier being in control during spicy moments, showing a whole different side than we’d seen in other books.

Watching both of them grow individually and together—it wasn’t a relationship that happened to them, they built it intentionally.

🧨 Final Thoughts
This book was everything I wanted and more. As someone who has loved this series, Playing With Fire felt like a reward. Leo and Xavier’s story is raw, steamy, and emotionally fulfilling in the best ways. You feel every stolen glance, every shift in power, every unspoken confession. It’s a love story built on contrasts and shaped by quiet trust.

And yes, I will absolutely be rereading their scenes. Multiple times.

This has been a pretty solid series for me. It’s a bit crazy, a bit over the top, but I’ve really enjoyed it overall and actually loved the craziness and intricate web involved. This installment is about Xavier, one of the triplets, who we have come to know through the course of this series. He is one of the trickier characters with his own set of issues and particular brand of meting out justice. His specialty is fire, so much so that it is almost an extension of who he is.

Leo is someone we have known for a while as well. He is the resident hacker/programmer who has been a bit under the radar in the grand scheme of things. He and Xavier have been dancing around for a bit, but when things heat up (literally and physically) and Leo seems to be in the crosshairs, Xavier’s protective nature takes over and he essentially makes his move.

As the two work together to solve the mystery of who seems to be using Xavier’s craft against him and the family, their relationship blossoms. Turns out they have much more in common that previously thought and they fit each other perfectly.

The rest of the family is pulled in to the fold as things escalate to the final showdown. It seems that Algerone and the triplets have made something of a peace as this all plays out and they seem to be on a much better path going forward which, given everything that occurred and is revealed, seems like a good thing at this point. There is a lot of history with this family and more questions are answered with each installment. Looks like we have one more to come with Misha’s story, and I’m looking forward to seeing him find some happiness and see how everything is wrapped up.

This is a Dark Romance so definitely check your TWs before heading in...This is also Book 6 in the Wayward Sons Series the books are written as stand alones so you don't need to read them in order (but you 100% should) but there are alot of already set couples/relationships that are established that you gonna have to roll with

This book may rival Xion's and Shepherd's for my favorite 😍 it was just on point right from the first page!

Xander and Leo have been friends orbiting each other for the last few books. Leo is part of the Junkyard Dogs Mercenaries who jump in to help the Laskins from Time to time. Leo is a top tier Hacker to rival Xander's own skills. The mutual Pining between these two has been going on for awhile, but when someone sets fire to Leo's trailer which almost takes him away from Xander they stop playing and both make a move. The only thing now complicating the situation is they have to figure out who is going after Leo and it turns out Xanders whole family. I loved the Possessiveness between both of these guys even though Leo's was slightly more subdued 🤣 Also like with almost every one of L. Evelands books the representation of the sexuality spectrum here was just spectacular, really driving home that you can be whatever you want to be sexuality is fluid you don't need to be set in one tiny box. The acceptance and support this family has for one another just warms my heart. Really though if you haven't read this series you have severely missing out, and this book just adds to the already fantastic series.

Xavier and Leo have been friends for a few years, connected over coding and anime, as close as friends can be, they share every free time together usually over their computers. But when Leo's home goes up in flames Xavier knew that he was not going to lose Leo. Leo has always wanted more with Xavier but didn't think it would happen, but when Xavier tells him, he is going home with him, what else can Leo do.
I have enjoyed every one of this series and I was so pleased to get to read Xavier's story. From the moment Xavier met Leo you knew they had a connection, and their relationship escalated when Leo moved it. Xavier has always come across as more private then the rest of the family, a bit of a loner and would only let Leo see bits of him. The closer they got the real Xavier was shown and I found their relationship so intense.
However whilst Xavier and Leo got closer there was still the problem of who was behind the fires and we see them both at their best, showing off their investigational skills.
When the problem gets closer to home we catch up with everyone, seeing how close they all where and I was smiling seeing the love they had for each other. We learn more about Algerone and Maxime and now I do not know what I think about them.
I am so glad this series will continue and we will get to know more about Micah

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I’m new to L Eveland’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Wayward Sons Series. This book/series has similar vibes to Onley James’s Necessary Evils Series. Xavier & Leo’s book is one of favourites of the series so far, on par with Shepherd & Eli’s book followed closely by War & Pax’s book. Xavier & Leo’s love story is years in the making. Wow, this book kept me on the edge of my seat throughout with all the twists and turns, and trying to work out what was going to happen next.

I thought the chemistry between Xavier & Leo was completely off the charts. I liked getting to see Xavier’s slightly softer come out where Leo’s concerned. I thought these two were great together and think that they make an amazing and unstoppable team. I’m really glad that Misha will be getting his own book as after everything he’s been through he totally deserves for something to worship the ground he walks on. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this universe, as well as more books from L Eveland in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

Wonderful adventure. I truly enjoyed this book, the way these men were pulled together was wonderful. (Beside all of the deaths). The strength they each had in themselves and the trust they had for each other is incredible and special. Xavier is man with some amazing abilities and at the same time the ability not to feel fear or guilt for his actions. He is a mercenary who goes after the people who think they can’t be stopped. Xavier has two brothers they are triplets and each of them have their own unique qualities. Xavier met Leo two years ago online and they had a pull for each other that neither owned up to. Lea helped Xavier with his jobs and they each learned how much they could depend on each other and could trust their actions around the other. They only want each other, no one else can understand who they are. This family or group of individuals who have come together by choice to make a family is a great example of what we can all have, except all of the killing. In the end of this story we have learned how Leo and Xavier are made for each other and together they can conquer anything.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This was just an all around amazing addition to the Wayward Sons series.

I have loved every entry into this series, but I do have a soft spot for the triplets. Xavier was such an amazing character with so much going on. I loved watching him evolve and discover his truer self. His protectiveness of his family and Leo was a great character trait, but also became his weakness. I loved the back and forth between him and Felix. They were two sides of the same coin, chaos and order.

Leo was the perfect pairing for Xavier. They complimented each other so well and Leo brought out the best in Xavier. The other Laskin boys’ psychopathy was more evident, but when Xavier was with Leo it seemed to fade away, the perfect balance.

What I loved most about this series is that it’s not just a romance there are complex plots that twist and turn, leaving you guessing every step of the way. Playing with Fire was no exception. The chase to find the fire starter before any more damage was caused, the relationship between Xavier and Algerone, and the twist in Algerone’s story kept you engaged the entire way through.

The almost-final instalment of the Wayward sons series (in many ways it's final, as it's the last of the Laskin brothers, but along the way they've gained Misha who we're now told will get his own book, so hurrah for that) and it was a bit of a roller coaster for me. Xavier is the last of the triplets to get his story and for all his own self-reflecting on what a monster he is, I actually think he's the least morally dark of all the brothers, and there is a lot less grisly action than in previous books, though the tension is ratcheted up high. When a near fatal fire set by the mysterious Phoenix sends Xavier's protective nature into overdrive (seriously, who is he kidding convincing anyone he's emotionless?!) he discovers his asexuality may not actually apply to his relationship with his codependent coding buddy Leo, which is good because that sweet boy is GONE for X. Like all of Eveland's books there's so much to love here even if at times I would have loved some tighter editing. Don't even be tempted to try and follow the story by jumping in partway through the series though, start at the beginning - Body Count - and follow it through.

I only made it to 17%. It wasn’t even terribly written — there were just too many little details that aren’t my taste piling up — Leo has “curves”, a “squishy hairy” belly. I get it, he’s a gamer, but make him a skinny assed one, please, for me there is nothing sexy about the doughy variety. Then Xavier says maybe I am into sex with you but I’m a bottom — I know there are power bottoms and feel free to call me out on my heteronormative bullshit, but the vibe from the start was X topping and I liked that direction. But now I have a nerdy guy with child bearing hips topping the alpha. Just nope. And if I had to hear Xavier say he was figuring things out one more time. To a first time it was refreshing honestly, but the fourth time, 17% in, I could tell my eyes would be in perpetual roll if I kept reading and that would give me a headache.

Also, who the hell is on the cover? Definitely not a curvy tech nerd, but Xavier is described with bleached and colored hair, so not him, either. I want to read a book about the cover dude because he seems kind of hot.

How do they do it, how does L. Eveland capture me with the first word. EVERY. TIME. This was Xavier's story, Xavier the third of the triplets raised by The Laskins but birthed by Algerone as their father. This story told how through not requiring change, recognizing true to themselves existence, love can change someone. Leo had admired and idolized Xavier for 2 years, probably loved him. Leo thought himself asexual, oh not so sweet winter child. I learned random things in here too things irl like how beautiful Lindsey Stirling and her violin sound, animals that my grandson loves and stealth pilotlessways to fight. I am sad the series is over but I am looking forward to the next one. And may I add that the sex scenes in this book took me minutes to get over, so f'n 🔥🔥🔥. I also loved that we were able to see all the brothers and their partners interact it was as special as the series has been. Never stop writing L. and I thank you.

Every preconceived notion that i had about this book going into it was completely blown out of the water the second chapter one started. I am in love with this series and this addition is definitely no exception. Leo and Xavier were a pair that i have been rooting for since Skin Deep and this book was perfect for them. It was very different from the other entries in this series because of the fact that they were already friends and had a deep relationship so i was interested to see how this would play out and it worked so well, the fact that they already felt so deeply for eachother from the jump and we didn't have to build up to that made everything that happens in this book more tense and nail biting. Other than them tho i obviously loved the rest of this crazy family. I am so excited to see what comes next from this world and i will be sat front and center when it does.

One of my favorite things about series that feature separate couples is when we finally get to a relationship that has been teased in previous books. That Leo and Xavier would eventually end up together was inevitable, but sometimes those are the most intriguing romances to watch unfold. These men are already unhealthily codependent but have done their best to respect each other's stated boundaries. However, a threat to Leo's life spurs Xavier to take one of the last steps toward him--which leads to lots of soul searching for both men. The external plot of this book was fine, but Xavier's developing relationships are what truly lent tension to the story. He and Leo finding their new balance was almost simple compared to Xavier and his father, a source of conflict in previous books, learning to respect each other's strengths. I may have gone into this series thinking Shepard would be the most complicated Wayward Son, but I adored Xavier's layered complexity and how Eveland used these depths to tell a truly engaging dark romance.

Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion:
4.5⭐️Man, this was awesome! My favorite couple of the series, I think. What I loved most was getting a peek inside Xavier’s fascinating and terrifying mind. It was just so compelling, the was he analyzes everything clinically and how Leo shakes him up. Makes him consider more than his hunting and his flames. The way these two also open up to each other and communicate was so compelling- loved them together- it a very unique dynamic. The world building is so well done I love how the author has built such a complex web of characters- the Laskin family is so memorable. This has a wonderful cat and mouse feel, the suspense ratcheting up as Xavier hunts a faceless opponent, one who made the mistake of using Leo to get to him. The suspense is excellent, the couple perfection, this was wildly entertaining!

Xavier and Leo are meant to be. Everybody around them knows that as well. They are both the same. Very protective and possessive of each other. I like how they both save one another. And that Leo is accepting of Xavier‘s darkness without hesitation. And how Xavier discovers himself more with Leo. They have so much trust between them. Their communication is a great. And the spice was amazing because you can tell just how much they trust each other and that they’re safe with every play they’re doing. They will walk through fire to protect each other. And I do love the fact that you get to learn more about Xavier’s bio father. I cannot wait for his book. Also, you can see just how close this family is. Because they will drop everything to protect each other no matter what is happening.

Xavier is asexual, a vigilante, a psychopath, a taker of lives, a lover of fire. Leo, a Junkyard Dog, virginal, hacker extraordinaire is desperately in love with him, knowing full well he is all of that. When someone tries to release Leo from his life, Xavier steps in to protect him, own him, revenge him. Xavier makes him his and he will fill all his needs. In this dark novel, you realize even in asexuality, there is romance, so much love and perhaps this ace is really demi. Xavier is primal, dominant and focused. Leo is submissive, willing and dedicated. This book is filled with danger and coated in hunger, need, obsession and claiming. It's part of a series.

I took my time with this book, so afraid it was gonna be the last in the series, and I had so many more questions about other characters, glad to find out Mishas story next.

Leo and Xavier certainly had been circling eachother for a while. I loved these two together, Leo has always come across as being vunerable and somehow fragile. Seeing Xavier doing all he can to protect the innocence he sees in Leo, even from his own darkness. Leo however is stronger than Xavier expected, hes able to see and accept all of Xavier and supports him in anyway possible.

Xavier and Leo are definitely my favorite couple of the series! It was so romantic how Leo never had a desire for anyone else. He had his eyes on Xavier for years! Xavier thinks he is too much of monster for sweet Leo, but Leo proved him otherwise! I always respect a man or monster who is can be pretty immoral in many ways but care so completely genuine and true about his man. Trying to deny his feelings for what he thinks is the better good. The chemistry with these two is off the charts much to Xavier's surprise but I was also totally here for figuring out the arsonist mystery.

The last of the triplets Xavier has fallen in love. Leo is his match in every way. Both are extremely intelligent and know how to write code and hack into everything. They have been best friends for 2 years, neither able to live without the other. When someone tries to hurt Leo, Xavier does everything he can to figure out who it is and eliminate them. Really enjoyed this book and just wanted to keep reading.
If you've read the series, all the MC from previous books are in this one.

4.5 stars. Although I somewhat expected mixed feelings about Xander in particular, this became my favourite couple of the series so far. Seeing such an uptight and structured person still able to accept some unexpected new realisations about himself was particularly appealing. His hints of vulnerability were really touching. The plot was really interesting, as was the new knowledge about Algerone. I'm really looking forward to more of these characters.

Xavier and Leo

I loved Xavier and Leo's relationship. I've been waiting for these two, and they did not disappoint. Their connection to each other really set the tone once things started moving along. I love this series, and Im so looking forward to how things will go in the upcoming books mentioned at the end. Definitely recommend reading the series.

I enjoyed Zavier and Leo. I loved that everyone was mentioned in this one. I was very disappointed, almost mad, that Zavier was so nasty to Max. I know what he did was inexcusable but the way Zavier and Zander went on was too much. They hate Algerone but now, I just didn’t like it. I’m very excited to read about them in Ace of Spades.
