Sven goes undercover on a reality TV show that involves sewing and cooking. With Bongo as his partner, Sven has a helpful side kick by him as they work to uncover who stole Piggy's famous BBQ sauce. This book is filled with fashion and sewing puns, making it both entertaining and occassionally challenging to read. This book also has multiple storylines within it as there are pages following Mango and Brash in a courtroom scenario as well as Marsha and Cilantro teaming up to rebuild the SpaceSUIT UFO. Three stories rolled into one book made this story a little more challenging to follow than pervious stories in this series, but it sets up well with a mini cliffhanger at the end for a follow-up book.
I was provided an advanced reader copy by the publishers through Net Galley.
My son and I love to read this series together. As a librarian, this series is one of my favorite to recommend. The characters are hilarious. The story does not seem forced.
This book, in particular, was funny. We loved the capybara addition. As an adult, I love that there are grown-up hidden moments in each book. This book was no exception.
SEW MUCH TROUBLE is a delightful graphic novel with lots of laughs and puns. Piggy Smalls has perfected his BBQ sauce recipe, but just after it finishes cooking, someone steals his food truck along with the sauce! Sven goes undercover in a sewing and baking competition to try to uncover the thief. While Bongo helps Sven with his mission, Marsha works on a super-secret pilot program. Chaos and hilarity ensues!
What I loved: This is such a clever and entertaining graphic novel that fits well within the series. There is loads of humor and puns throughout with explanations in footnotes on the bottom of pages. Children will giggle along with the antics of the main characters who are anything but boring. The plot moves quickly with the right pace of reveals and mystery towards the ultimate resolution.
The book is easy to follow and attention-grabbing with great use of color and expressive characters. The graphic novel style works perfectly with the story told equally through images and dialogue. The jokes are great to keep children laughing and engaged with good complexity for the middle grade audience. This book (and the series) are great for children to share with caregivers - there are plenty of jokes that adults can also get into and enjoy with young readers.
Final verdict: SEW MUCH TROUBLE is a delightful and humorous new installment in a great middle grade graphic novel series, AGENTS OF S.U.I.T. This book (and series) are perfect for children who love action/adventure, spies, and comedy.
Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
The Agents of SUITS are in getting grilled in their 4th novel as Bongo and Marsha squabble as they let the thief get away with Piggy’s Smalls infamous barbecue sauce.
Sven has been feeling under appreciated as his skills as a designer have been overlooked (cue the Diana Ross opening credits commercial) as he is heads back to the line of investigators, including Mango and Brash, needing new disguises.
General Inspector sends Bongo and Marsha on different tasks as Sven goes undercover to a sewing and cooking competition to help find the sauce stealing thief.
Full of puns and high vocabulary, kids will love the colorful illustrations and the mystery of the missing sauce.
Book Clubs Recs: Food: barbecue! Music: Diana Ross
As a teacher I would recommend this to my students that are still wanting graphic novels to read. Lots of word play and vocabulary.
My 9 and 7 year olds still love this series (and my 9 year old reads at a high school level, but will continue to return to these for a nice relaxing and fun read).
Thanks @Netgalley and @FirstSecondBooks for the Advanced Digital Copy.
My 9 year old and I both have been fans of InvestiGators since book 4 and Agents of S.U.I.T. since its inception. We were both excited and I was honored to be able to get to read and review this book before it was published. Thank you to the publisher, author, and illustrator for sharing this great chapter in this series! I’ve always loved Sven Septapus and was excited for his arc as a spy. It did not disappoint, though it did feel a bit different than others in either series. There was a lot of building up the character since Sven has mostly just been a costumer and inventor. My kiddo was not as big of a fan as I was, though he did still enjoy it and read the book in one sitting. Overall, a great addition to an excellent series.
Full disclosure: I have the B&N exclusive edition (ISBN 978-1-250-42981-0) that comes with stickers. Nice!
This is a fun (spin-off) series, though it feels like TOO much is going on by shoehorning in so many agents in one volume compared to earlier ones.
The feel of the series is still there, of course! Chock-full of dad jokes and forced puns (even the characters call it out, haha)! Definite recommend for fans of the series! Relies a bit on knowing the characters from prior books, though, so it's not really good for complete newcomers.
Adult review: Such a cute and age-appropriate read! My kids love the Investigators: Agents of S.U.I.T. series. It’s packed with fun humor, clever missions, and colorful illustrations that keep them laughing and engaged. Perfect for young readers who enjoy a little mystery and a lot of silliness.
8-year-old review: I liked the book because it was funny and full of action. They have cool gadgets and silly missions. It made me laugh! The pictures are awesome too. If you like mysteries and teamwork, you’ll like it.
Thank you to NetGalley and First Second Books for the eARC in exchange for our honest and unbiased review!
The S.U.I.T. team is back for another adventure in SEW MUCH TROUBLE. After Bongo and Marsha fumble a case, they’re split up to work with other partners. Bongo is partnered with Sven, who becomes the focus of the story as he goes undercover in a sewing/cooking competition show to apprehend a BBQ sauce thief. The reality show format provides a fun backdrop for the mystery and offers plenty of opportunities to showcase new gadgets and introduce an array of wacky supporting characters. Filled with the colorful artwork and signature puns readers have come to expect from the Investigators crew, this will be a welcome addition to the series.
Piggy Smalls BBQ sauce is stolen and the agents of SUIT have to get it back. Marsha and Bongo have been fighting a lot so they get different partners for this mission. Bongo is with Sven Septapus going undercover in a competition on TV called "sew you think you can sew". They have to design and sew fashion outfits as well as cook. They believe the stolen sauce will be featured here. Meanwhile Marsha is teamed with Cilantro to put a spacecraft back together. This book shows how teams should play to their strengths. Each doing whatever their special skill is but to work together. Teamwork and fun wordplay galore.
quite good! my favrite in the "agents of suit" series so far. very easy to read, although i'm not sure if the extra plot with mango and brash was needed. that part felt uneven. i would have liked it if the two plots connected. but overall very good. it was a fun thing of the crimal being anyone they wanted, which added a more thinking aspect. it was very fun for sven to be one of the main charctors. although, it was hard to follow how the badgers got back together. that part felt very choppy.
thanks to netgalley and the publisher for letting me read it in advance.
From my 8-year-old son who LOVES Investigators and Agents of S.U.I.T. and has read all the other books! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
This book was awesome, and I loved it! It was really funny. This story was a bit different because Sven (who normally only works in the A.R.M.S. department making V.E.S.T.s and other gadgets) got to go on the adventure this time, and that made it really fun. It still felt like the other Agents of S.U.I.T. books I already love, just with something new added. The drawings and art were great too. I can’t wait for the next one!
This was a really fun read as it always is when reading about the shenanigans that Bongo and Marsha get into with their co-workers which in this case are Cilantro & Sven and there was a cameo from the InvestiGators in this volume as well. The story was super fun with the crew racing to catch the BBQ sauce thief and they have to go undercover to catch the thief. It was an fast read with fun puns and great illustrations. Thanks to First Second Books and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
My boys love these books! "Sew Much Trouble" is a great addition to the S.U.I.T. lineup. My kids love Sven and were excited to see he got his own story. This was our favorite Agents of S.U.I.T. book. I much prefer the Investigators to other popular graphic novel series. I recommend them all the time to parents. They are actually funny and do not rely only on gross-out humor for easy laughs. Thank you to NetGallery and First Second books for an advanced copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.
*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*
This book was so much fun! I have been a big fan of the Investigators series since I discovered it a few years ago. Getting to see what some of the side characters from those books get up to was amusing and expanded the S.U.I.T universe in a really creative way. As always John Patrick Green's talent for working wordplay and puns into the stories is present. I highly recommend this book for any school or classroom library!
Like the best children's animated movies, there's jokes to tickle the funny bones of all ages. Badger agents Bongo and Marsha are split up in an attempt by the Inspector to improve their teamwork. This thrusts into the spotlight innovative fashion/gadget designer Sven Septapus from A.R.M.. Sven is ordered to go undercover as Agent Bongo's new partner on the reality show 'Sew you think you can Sew' to catch a thief. Full of puns, with multiple storylines complex enough to improve the enjoyment on the second reading. My students and I love this series!
I requested a review copy of this book for my 11-year-old, who loves graphic novels and has been enjoying this series. Here are his thoughts:
I really love this series. It's really fun to be able to pre-read these. I think this is a very good book. Like the rest of the series, it is very funny, and there are a lot of cliffhangers, so it will keep you reading more.
I would recommend these books to people who like the other Investigators books and graphic novels that are comedic like this.
Fun introductions into comic books for middle riders to adults. I loved the clever puns and silly sayings. Easy to follow mystery that leaves room for follow up stories to keep your child's attention. Let's not forget about the show So You Think You Can Sew? where they have to cook and sew at the same time, I want this to be a real show. ;) Had a great time reading this one with my 9 year old.
*Thank you First Second books and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Spot-on humor, vivid illustrations, and an engaging story—John Patrick writes books perfect for the age 8-12 crowd, helping to make reading fun. An auto-buy author at my home, Green’s Agents of S.U.I.T.: Sew Muchyh S Trouble focuses on Sven, lead designer of your A.R.M.S., and a few other agent for of S.U.I.T.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. Shout out to the author for being so kind and signing my son’s copy of an Investigators book at a comic event in Maine!
Green does it again! In this volume, we learn more about Sven and his actual abilities as A.R.M.S. His process of building the suits and a little bit of his background. Bongo and Marsha are on the hunt for a sauce thief; Sven gets chosen for the Fashion Reality Show, So you think you can sew, Mango and Brash go undercover as Lawyers and more occurs in this action-packed book. I already can't wait for Suits 5.
This one was actually the most well structured and balanced of the agents of suit book yet for me. It balanced even having the gators some minor spotlight than just a quick peek in on them and then gone like older books. I enjoyed seeing more of the even more behind the scenes characters, being Sven having his own chance at some story building. And as usual the jokes are plentiful, even the quiet ones you notice visually, Brash does seem like the type to keep things "Brief"
Thank you, Netgalley, for letting me read an ARC of this book.
This is the first Agents of S.U.I.T book that I've read, and I appreciated the fact that I could jump right in and follow the story.
The story was silly with so many crazy puns. I realize that puns are a part of this series, but it got to be a bit much for me. However, I know this will be one book my students will love!
My daughter and I read this together and enjoyed it! This series always cracks us up, she was excited to read it. She loves capybaras so that was fun. Multiple storylines made it kind of fun, but a touch harder to follow. Now my daughter is excited for the next book!
Thanks to NetGalley and First Second for the advanced e reader copy.
These books never fail to make me laugh! The sheer amount of puns just bring me such joy! Sven has to enter a reality competition to track down a bad guy! What follows is many puns, strange clothes and a side quest for some familiar faces! Can’t wait for more!
John Patrick Green does it again! A pun-filled read of clever shenanigans from the beloved characters of S.U.I.T. This was a fun read, and I look forward to his next ones!
This was cute. We really liked the badgers and Sven getting some star treatment. However, the story with Cilantro and Marsha was pretty weak & made for a kinda choppy ending.
Graphic Novel I received an electronic ARC from First Second Books through NetGalley. The S.U.I.T. agents are back and readers get to see Sven take on a field assignment. First, we see Bongo and Marsha suffer complications on an assignment and be split up. Marsha is paired with Sven on a super secret mission and Bongo is paired with Cilantro as contestants on a cooking show. Green's characters are certainly humorous but have undertones to make them seem more real. Readers will love the hilarity at the competition and try to figure out who is causing the issues in both cases. As usual, the artwork is brightly colored and adds so much to the dialogue. This series has been a delightful spinoff from the Investigators.
