Duane Boehm has written another western novel with enough humor, heartbreak, love, and outlaws to keep you turning the page.
Duane Boehm grew up on a farm outside of Petersburg, Illinois. All the time spent driving a tractor gave him plenty of opportunity to let his imagination run wild and not tear up too much equipment. The two passions he developed early in life were the love of playing guitar and reading books.
He eventually moved to a mini-farm outside of Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife and replaced planting corn with trees and raising dogs. For a number of years he worked as an IT consultant and continued with being a part-time musician and songwriter. He dabbled in writing short stories with the idea in the back of his mind that someday he would write a novel. One Christmas after watching "A Christmas Carol", he was inspired to begin his journey as a novelist.
I've been reading all of your books pertaining to be set back in the old west. I loved this one like I've loved the others. I'll have to admit I kind of wanted Sandy to get the man in the beginning. I'm hoping there will be a sequel or another one written soon.
A MUST READ ! The best western ,.....scratch that, the best book I've read in two years!
Every character is constructed so well I began to know them. Exactly what a great book does. Also, I will miss them all. Especially Beau. A man I know well. I recommend this story to not only Western readers but to all readers. This little story is the kind that brings readers to westerns. Mr. Boehm has a new fan!
This was an excellent story! I thoroughly enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. It was a western/mystery/action packed tale with just a touch of romance. It was well written and a western that I would definitely recommend!
When the MC moved back home his fathers neighbor and kind of enemy was shot dead . the whore he was bedding in chyanne claimed she could not help but love the MC and was fired so she could follow him to his home town and of course took a job as a whore so...the home town deputy cannot have,a relationship with a whore in front of his family especially his mother and the MC never has claimed he had feelings for the whore and why she moved to.the MC whole town is beyond my understanding because she already said to herself ,that she will always be a whore Now ,......the MC is definitely not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to women but he is a few more percentage points higher than the average guy In The dummy category Regarding women. Not my cup of tea .its not a western but a murder mystery that has a few steers and now a murder
Beau Messinger is a deputy sheriff in Cheyenne. In a stagecoach ride with the president of the bank in Laramie City, Beus's home own, they run into bandits, which he wastes no time in dispatching. This quickly turns in to a job as deputy sheriff in Laramie. The sheriff isn't pleased because he hd no say in the matter, He i estranged from hi family, because his father wants him to run the ranch. Another large rancher gets murdered, the sheriff gets shot, leaving Beau in charge, and he has no clues. There is no mention of a book 2 in the series, but hopefully there is.
I think I have dead all of Duane Boehm's books and they have all been good stories and well written. But I don't remember any of them having so much profanity as this one does. I usually check for language before reading a new author....I did not expect all the profanity that is in this book.... It really distracts from the story, for me.....
I found this book to be a captivating read that truly held my attention from start to finish. As a fan of this author, I had high expectations, and I’m happy to say he didn’t disappoint. It's always wonderful to find a story that resonates so well!
I am a big reader. Two three books a week. Mr Boehm did a great job in character development and story. I have read all his books, and I think this book is now my favorite of his. I urge him to continue with these characters for at least a few more books.
I only stopped reading one time, and that was to absorb the impact of what had just occured ! A real page turner this story was. Have read every book so far , they just keep me coming back every time a new arrival hits the stand !!
This would have been a lot better without the ghastly abuse of a woman. Why do western writers seem increasingly compelled to include subplots about the abuse of women? This is supposed to be an escapist genre.
Great work Mr Boehm, another totally enjoyable book.Your westerns are just great to spend time with, the stories have everything excitement, romance, sadness,A real picture of life
Duane knows how to write a great book with great characters installed. I love the way the storyline comes together and how it works together Highly recommend this book and any others by the author
How often does a prodigal son or daughter leave the nest seeking their own place and home because staying at home with the parents can be stressful and difficult. This story is about that very thing and ironically, in the end love finds itself.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of reading this book. This book kept me interested page after page after page. I will probably reread this book in the future. That, in my world says a lot in favor of this book.
An absolutely awesome book. Very entertaining with mystery, excitement and humor. Would highly recommend this and all other books written by this author.
What a great human tragedy and loving family saga. It has twists and turns on figuring out who done it and it ended as one hopes it will. I loved this book.
