I’m an avid skier and traveler from Ohio. When I’m not writing, you can find me enjoying time outside, ideally in the mountains with my partner and our fur babies. The joy of getting in a car and driving across the country to explore is unmatched, and also a great time to check off the romance novels from my never ending TBR… and who doesn’t love that?

Fall Apart by Dakota Forest
4/5⭐
3/5🌶️

After finishing the first book, I couldn’t wait to jump right into this one! I already felt I’d love Lizzy's story, and I was right. I adored her in the previous book, and getting to know her better in this one just made me love her even more! We didn’t know much about Clay—just that he’s Tanner's little brother—but I was curious about him and how he would connect with Lizzy. Let me tell you, Clay and Lizzy don’t disappoint! Their chemistry is off the charts from the start. I enjoyed their playful banter and how hard they resisted their attraction to each other. The tension between them is electric, and when they finally give in, it’s magical.

Lizzy is such a smart, independent, and strong woman. I admire her confidence and sassy personality! She knows exactly what she wants and never hesitates to speak her mind. On the other hand, Clay is a bit of a grump and keeps to himself. After going through some tough times, he distances himself from relationships and keeps his family and friends at arm’s length, not wanting to bring them down with his problems. He’s all about routine and control, but everything changes when Lizzy strolls into his life.

These two might seem like total opposites, but they’re perfect for each other! Clay sees and appreciates Lizzy for who she is. He helps her realize that she’s not too much—she’s enough, just as she is. He makes her feel safe, and after her ex’s betrayal, he helps her learn to trust again. Meanwhile, Lizzy brings so much joy and excitement into Clay's life. She challenges him and isn’t afraid to share her thoughts, which makes him lower his guard and open up. I love how she encourages him to embrace what he loves!

Overall, I enjoyed this book! There’s such a cozy vibe when I read Dakota's books. What I love most is how relatable the characters are. They’re so well-developed and their struggles feel real, making it easy to connect with them. Plus, I can see some great improvements in the writing compared to the first book, and I cannot wait to see what’s next for this series!

What started as a steamy hookup at a bar turns to panic when Lizzy discovers that the tattoo’ed hottie she was with is actually her best friend’s very off limits soon-to-be brother-in-law, Clay. Determined to resist their undeniable pull but bound to close proximity due to their wedding duties, the two are thrown even closer together when Lizzy’s living situation is suddenly uninhabitable due to Clay’s error. Clay offers Lizzy a place to live, not realizing how their nearness won’t let their chemistry fizzle out.

THIS STORY WAS SO FUN! I absolutely looooooved our main gal Lizzy: she’s so independent, feisty, takes-no-BS, aware and tough. She was the perfect yin to our story’s yang, Clay. He was broody and surly, but only enough that I didn’t find him unbearable… a real possibility with that personality type! 😂 Don’t get me started on his thigh tattoos, his little reading glasses or HIS TASTE IN BOOKS. This man is literal book boyfriend perfection. And we can’t forget about my main fur squeeze Ani!! I absolutely adored Dakota’s storytelling and writing style in Full Send and absolutely couldn’t wait to get back into this world via Fall Apart. The depth of their characters and their complexities continue to shine through in this book, and I loved every minute!

What I Loved About This Story:
✨Animosity & enemies to roommates to lovers
✨Reverse age gap which made me feral! (She’s 35, he’s 28)
✨Trauma and hurt in his past; lack of trust due to her past partner
✨Friends with benefits… maybe this time it’ll work!
✨Bad ass, firecracker FMC and a broody & moody MMC which I didn’t mind
✨We got to see our favorites from Full Send… and MAYBE there is a pathway to the next story!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book via the author, but my review is all my own.

fall apart review 🎿💗

thanks to @dforestwrites for giving me a copy of you book, fall apart, to review!

i really enjoyed myself reading this book! there were some beautiful and emotional quotes and scenes in this book, which i loved! i know grace was only a side character but i loved her!!! such a queen🤭
sadly i did not feel that way about everything in this book. the spice was sometimes a bit too much for me and i didnt really connect with the main characters, but that is only because i didnt relate to them :) i still really liked reading this book, it was short and fast paced which made this a great palette cleanser🤩

sadly this book wasn’t IT for me, but i would recommend it for anyone who loves:
✨ reverse age gap
✨ opposites attract
✨ forced proximity

Arc review!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 🌶️🌶️🌶️

After learning she’s been cheated on, Lizzy is ready for a fun distraction at the local ski resort town dive bar when the tall, tattooed construction worker walks in. Too bad when she recognizes Clay- he’s her best friend’s soon-to-be brother-in-law, and he’s entirely off limits.

So what happens when they learn they’re maid of honor and best man together for the wedding? Throw in an unexpected uninhabitable living space, and now they’re roommates too. Will they learn to let down their walls and give into their undeniable chemistry? Or are they destined for heartache, bound to fall apart?

If you’re a fan of dislike to lovers, this is the book for you!! Clay is a MMC who loves through acts of service and it showed! And he reads, HE READS. Their mutual love for smutty books had me howling and tied up in knots (iykyk).

I appreciated that their connection was layered and messy. They had to work on the relationship, and I love that they were willing to own up to their quick comments and unintentional remarks and apologize. It felt real and relatable.

This book is definitely a sexy read!! 🔥🔥🔥 The connection between Lizzy and Clay was strong!! Give me a man who works *with toys*. We love a mutual sesh and this delivered.

Overall, it was a fun, ski-town read and I enjoyed it! It did take me a little while to get into (why the 4 stars rating) but I’ll gladly go back and read Full Send!! KU had beef with me and wouldn’t let me download it until I was 35% through FA, hence the backwards reading order.

Thank you to Dakota Forest for this arc in exchange for my honest review!!❤️

What is it with these Chapman brothers?! 🥵

I inhaled this book! Like, sat down for a pedicure and all of a sudden I’m 35% in. This story just sucked me right in.

Lizzy is a feisty firecracker. She’s not afraid -mostly- to say what’s on her mind or go “full Lizzy” on anyone. Clay is way more reserved and mostly sticks to himself. But the chemistry between the two after meeting at the bar the first time was insane. Clay has the ability to see Lizzy for who she really is, and she feels like she doesn’t need to hide the real her when she’s around him. Also- he reads smut and buys her coffee everyday… like, COME ON how can you not be a goner for him.

I feel like Dakota cranked up the heat in this one a little bit. The spice was spicing! 🔥 The growth from book one to book two was incredible! I loved seeing all the last characters come back too, it was fun to see them all together again

If you’re looking for an MMC who wears glasses, loves his dog, reads spicy romance books, isn’t afraid to have toys as teammates, knows her coffee order, AND has tattoos (on his hands and thighs!! 🔥) then look no further, Clay is your guy! He was grumpy but so sweet too.

I loved Lizzy’s bright personality & her sass; it made for such fun banter between her & Clay. They had me laughing one moment then fanning myself the next, their chemistry was easy to see! I loved how Clay not only opened up to Lizzy, but also his family and friends; he found safety in her & knew he deserved love.

Thank you Dakota for giving me the chance to ARC read your book! 🫶🏻

I enjoyed Full Send but Fall Apart just might have it beat! I knew Lizzy’s story was going to be entertaining and I was not let down! From Lizzy and Clay’s first meeting at the bar, I just knew whatever we were in store for was going to be good!

Clayyyyy was a dream. The grumpy teddy bear is a big softie underneath those glasses and behind that book he’s reading 🤭

I loved Lizzy’s personality! She’s bright and bubbly but doesn’t take crap from anyone! 🤪

I also loved getting to see Tanner and Veronica (and of course Collin!)

‘Shut up Princess, you’re ruining it’

The ONLY reason this book is not a 5⭐️ read for me is purely because I found it a tad bit slow between Lizzy & Clay to start off with. I felt it was all a bit tit for tat at the beginning.

HOWEVER, I do need to say, I still really really enjoyed everything else about this book. The spark between the two main characters was so clear, the fact that they both enjoyed reading as well (not just ordinary books either 💋👀) what more could we ask for as readers ourselves?

The emotions both characters went through in the whole of this book to just get to where they both wanted to be were heavy, they both had a lot that needed solving before they could love & trust each other. Past situations definitely make a future though and with these two they definitely did ❤️

So pleased I got the chance to ARC read this book & will for sure, look out for more of Dakota’s books in the future.

If you’re looking for a book that pulls you in from the very first chapter, look no further than Fall Apart! This gem is the second book in the On The Slopes series, but don’t worry if you missed Book 1, Full Send—this story stands tall on its own!

Meet Clay, a man with knuckle tattoos, a talent for braiding hair, and an undeniable love for smutty books and cold brew coffee. Seriously, how can you not swoon over a heartthrob like him? His character is charming and unexpected softness, making him utterly irresistible.

Lizzy is such a feisty and lovable character! She’s the kind of woman who knows her worth and won’t settle for anything less. I absolutely adore how she embraces her love for all things pink, whether it’s her wardrobe or the little touches to her Bronco. Her passion for yoga shows just how dedicated she is to self-care and balance in her life. And let’s not forget her love for cold brew coffee—it’s like the perfect fuel for her vibrant personality! What I really appreciate about Lizzy is how relatable she is. Her struggles, triumphs, and unapologetic attitude make her feel so real. It’s refreshing to see a character who embodies strength and authenticity while also being warm and approachable. You can’t help but root for her and feel inspired by her journey!

Dakota’s writing shines as she crafts a world filled with vibrant characters, witty banter, and genuine emotions. You can feel the thought and care she puts into each character, and it’s clear she knows how to create connections that resonate. The plot is engaging and keeps you on your toes, while the ending leaves you feeling satisfied and warm inside.

I found myself completely hooked! The interactions between characters are filled with such depth and humor that I couldn’t help but smile (or swoon) at every turn. Dakota has a knack for capturing emotions so vividly—you’ll laugh, you’ll sigh, and you might even blush a little with the steamy moments!

Whether you’re a fan of the first book or just diving into this one, Fall Apart is a must-read. Grab your favorite cold brew, settle in, and prepare for a delightful ride with Clay and Lizzy. You won’t regret it!

Fav quote from the book:
“I told you you’re so f-cking special. Now I want you to watch what you do to me. I want you to see how you make me feel. You’re going to remember that you’re more than enough.”

"Fall Apart" is book two in the On the Slopes Series by Dakota Forest

Dakota was a "new to me" author and after jumping into her DMs to introduce myself and tell her I was looking for new authors to read, we chatted for a while, she gave me some advice and help, and then she so kindly sent me the e-ARC for Fall Apart. It was my very first ARC which makes this extra special to me.

Due to past heartache neither Lizzy or Clay are looking for a relationship, but once they meet they can't deny their attraction or the magnetic pull that has ahold of them.

Lizzy is sassy and fierce and takes no $hit from anyone. She has no problem going toe to toe with grumpy, controlling Clay. And Clay accepts and adores her in all of her high maintenance girly girl glory. Their banter had my cackling so many times and their chemistry was firework worthy. They were absolutely sizzling together and who doesn't love a man that will gladly partake in some teamwork with his girl's favorite toys.

These two are so opposite, but I think that's what makes them a perfect fit. They give each other what they need. Lizzy brings lightness to Clay, and he brings stability and comfort to her. They balance each other, and also bring each other out of their comfort zones. And watching them bond over coffee and smutty books was so cute and heartwarming.
Dakota wrote this with beautiful emotional depth, and wonderful realistic character growth. We get to laugh and swoon as these two overcome their pasts and tear down each other's walls.
I'm so glad I found Dakota and I will absolutely be going back to read "Full Send" I loved every minute of Fall Apart and I cannot wait for what Dakota writes next!

Lizzy and Clay aren't looking for anything serious, and after bumping into each other in the local bar, sparks begin to fly! Lizzy panics when she realises Clay is her besties soon to be brother-in-law, but circumstances keep throwing them together, and the chemistry continues to build... Lizzy is an outgoing queen who takes no BS, whilst Clay is a closed off and grumpy, but big hearted dog dad. I loved their banter and their growth, the characters were very well thought out and believable.

I genuinely loved Full Send (Book 1 in the series), but Fall Apart somehow managed to beat it! It was great to see a continuation of Tanner and Veronica's story in the background, whilst focusing on Lizzy's love story, who I already loved from her Full Send scenes. The multiple layers of the story all build up to a beautiful ending, and the spice is on point and doesn't detract from the rest of the book. Contemporary romance lovers, flock to this series!

4.5 ⭐ Why aren’t more people talking about this book?

📖 Lizzy isn’t looking for a relationship after finding her ex had been cheating on her. When Mr Tall-dark-and-tattoed sits next to her at the bar, she thinks one night wouldn’t hurt. Clay loves order and control, but thinks the blonde in his seat at the bar might be an acceptable change to his routine.

💭 When almost every microtrope you love shows up like the author wrote this book just to your tastes? The pacing felt natural, the characters I found enjoyable, and the spice be spicing!

Also, where can I get my own Clay Chapman? Because for me, it’s all about the small gestures. The quiet care. The kind of love that feels real. Plus he helps Lizzy see her worth without ever trying to "fix" her.

There was a moment in the final ski trip scene where I was holding my breath.

If you’re a fan of reverse age gap, forced proximity, opposites attract, tattooed MMCs and open door SPICE, this book might be for you. Top of the TBR!

This book completely stole my heart! It had everything I love—second chance romance, grumpy/sunshine, and just the right amount of found family vibes to make me cry happy tears. The emotional depth of the characters, especially as they navigate heartbreak and healing, felt so genuine and tender. I was rooting for them from the very first page!

The writing was warm and cozy even in the tough moments, and the banter? Adorable. I adored the slow burn, the tension, and the way love snuck back in when it was least expected.

This was an ARC, but all opinions are my own—and my opinion is: if you love romance that makes your heart ache (in the best way), Fall Apart is a must-read!

4.75/5⭐ 4.5/5🌶️

I have been putting off this review for WAY too long. This book was so fun, extra spicy with loveable flawed characters that just make you fall in love with them.

Fall Apart is an interconnected standalone in a series. This story follows Lizzy Frank and Clay is Chapman. Lizzy is in her mid 30s and fresh out of an 8 year relationship. Clay is single, in his late 20s and has never had a relationship last longer than a few months. What do they have in common? Their affinity for one-night stands. Their attraction is instant and they cannot keep their hands of each other until something distracts Lizzy and she runs out on Clay without a word. He doesn't even her name.

I was so lucky to have such a fantastic read as my first ARC! This is definitely one of the most spiciest books I ever read. Chapter 33?! 🫠🫣 This is a wide open door romance lol. Nevertheless, the story between Lizzy and Clay was relatable and so fun. The banter between these two was top tier. I love how vulnerable they allowed each other to be and how they ensured they felt secure with each other. I recommend this to anyone thats looking for a funny, adventurous romance with lots of heart and of course smut. What's the spiciest romance you've read?

~ Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. ~

I was completely captivated by V & Tanner’s story in Full Send, so I wasn’t sure how Dakota could possibly top it—but she absolutely did! Lizzy & Clay were everything I hoped for and more. I loved watching Lizzy’s journey as she learned to trust again, and the chemistry between the two leads was just electric.

And the spice? It was next level! Two particular scenes will definitely stay with me for a long time! 🐉

I can't wait for everyone to experience Lizzy and Clay’s story this April. I know I’ll be revisiting it again soon!

i had the privilege to be an ARC reader for this beautiful book, in exchange for an honest review.

i loved this story so much. they way we get to know clay and lizzy and see them grow is so precious. i loved the tension and the banter and how they gave each other the push they needed without wanting to change each other’s essence. they truly embraced each other’s personalities and it was so beautiful to see their love for each other.

lizzy is an amazing fmc. she has been consistently made to feel like she is too much and she has had her heart broken by a man who made her feel so small. this has made her hurt but also tough. she is so strong and she is not afraid to take up space. she will not settle for less than what she wants and deserves. i adore that about her. she is a force of nature.
lizzy is finding it hard to trust people when she meets clay, but neither of them give up easily. i wish we had seen more of her friendship with veronica in this book but it was so lovely to see her relationship with grace and kayleigh and how she lets people in.

clay is such a golden retriever. he has lost so much and he carries so much guilt that he has been shielding from everything and everyone, as his coping mechanism. lizzy will be exactly the spark he needs to light up again and shine brighter than ever, making everyone around him so happy and proud. it was heartwarming to see him rebuild his confidence and his relationship with his family. he loves so deeply and he takes care of everyone. i just love him for it.

i adored the two epilogues and the main characters’ love for romance books, they were the sweetest details.

i truly recommend this book and will be reading the first in the series asap! thank you dakota for the opportunity to be an ARC reader.

Having just finished the book — this is everything I could want in a story for Lizzy and Clay!

As a whole, this book was an excellent ski romance with witty memorable characters, a fantastically set scene, banter, and spicy-spice. The author knows her stuff, and I love that she brings her personal knowledge and experience as a skier to the story which makes it feel so authentic. I was so relieved that there was not a miscommunication trope or third act breakup; just two mature adults who reinforce assurance in one another and take space for themselves when it's needed to get their heads right. It was so refreshing to read about a new relationship that felt more real and believable... and healthy! We all have our doubts and insecurities, after all.

Adore Lizzy and Clay. Individually, they each have such tough exteriors of which they're fiercely protective. I can identify with both MCs in so many different ways.

🩷 Lizzy Frank might be a princess decked out in pink, but she is one tough cookie. Smart, independent, sassy, and takes no BS from anyone.

🖤 Clay Chapman is a tough and broody contractor that keeps his chin down, works hard, and loves a good whiskey... preferably at home, by the fire, with a book in hand and his adorable dog at his feet.

Having read the first book in the On the Slopes series, I love that the author kicks off with a quick flashback to “before” everything went down with Veronica and Tanner, when the two BFFs were living their lives in Ohio. It’s a quick and helpful nod to Lizzie’s previous relationship that I hadn’t been aware of, and sets the tone nicely where Chapter 1 picks up… exactly as Full Send dropped off (6 mo prior).

There were some epic moments that I loved:
1. When chapter 34 closes with Clay saying, "is now the right time?" 😍 SWOON
2. Chapter 41 "Full Lizzy" was EVERYTHING!!! My heart burst and my eyes filled with tears of joy for Lizzy's full-circle moment.

PUB DATE: April 17, 2025 (available on KU, preorder now!)

Thank you so much to Dakota Forest for my complimentary advanced copy. So thrilled to be a part of its big reveal! As always, all opinions are my own.

This was a sweet read but also surprisingly so spicy?! I knew it’d be smutty but damn🤭 the things Lizzy had Clay doing👀🫦 I hadn’t read the first book before this one so this group was new to me but I really enjoyed these characters! I liked the setting of the story too- it felt very cozy. My only issue was that the pacing of the story kinda slowed down around the 50% mark so it took me quite a while to get through the second half as I wasn’t as engaged as I was during the first half.

Lizzy was a spitfire. She’s ballsy, confident, independent & unapologetically herself👏🏼 I adored her playful nature & the way she doesn’t believe in taking life seriously. Clay is grumpy, cocky, flirty & broody, but lawwwwd was he hot! AND he reads smut? And buys her smutty books? A MAN! I loved how much they purposely annoyed each other at the start & how much they bickered & argued🤭 it made the tension extra fun & hot! They had great chemistry & brought out the good in each other. I just wish the “excitement” I got from their relationship at the start carried throughout the rest of the book because once anything physical happened between them the first time, the tension & excitement sort of fizzled out? Which I think also added to the slower pace in the second half of the book. But overall it was a cute read & im sure others will love it!

Thank you to the author for this arc🩷

You know when you read a book and you immediately know that without a doubt you would reread it again in a heartbeat. Yep this is one of those books.

There’s great banter. There’s tension. The chemistry is off the charts. It’s sweet yet there’s tons of spice!

Lizzy and Clay’s story is incredible.

The FMC, Lizzy is as feisty as she is sweet, but carries a lot of baggage from her previous relationship. She’s given up on anything other than her book boyfriends she loves to read about.

The MMC, Clay is a walking god in a tool belt. He’s also an avid romance reader who also has a ton of baggage but is as loyal as they come.

I cannot begin to come close to putting into words how great their story is… you will instantly fall in love with these characters!

I definitely need to go back and read the first book of this series because I cannot get enough of them!

If you enjoy some good old forced proximity, some spice to go with your romcom, feisty FMC’s and MMC’s that can be super sweet but still have a filthy mouth then this book is a MUST READ!

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun and easy read, I got through it fairly quickly, even though a few of the chapters felt a bit on the longer side. The author’s writing style is easy to read, which made it effortless to stay hooked from beginning to end.

The characters were likable but that was really it for me😅. However, I still found myself invested in their journey and enjoyed seeing their dynamic evolve throughout the story. The dual POV worked really well here—it gave a nice balance and added depth to the emotional struggles both characters had although I did think Lizzy was a bit overdramatic from time to time (especially for a 35 year old)🙈

Now, let’s talk spice—because yes, it’s in there, and it’s just right. Not overdone, not underwhelming, just the perfect amount to add tension and chemistry.

This book would make a great palette cleanser for anyone looking for a lighthearted romance. If you’re into age gap dynamics, forced proximity, and dual POVs, this will definitely hit the spot. It’s the kind of book that leaves you with a smile and that warm, satisfied feeling once you turn the last page.

Highly recommend it for romance lovers looking for an easy, enjoyable escape!

ARC Review:

I had the opportunity to read an ARC copy of this book an I’m grateful for it!

Lizzy and Clay’s story happens in the middle to the end of winter time around Utah, specifically in Park City a small town near Salt Lake City. First they kissed, after they try to avoid each other but the circumstances brought them together living in Clay’s house.

The chemistry between them made it inevitable that they would get closer, breaking down all the barriers of Clay living alone and Lizzy having been cheated by her ex-boyfriend. He fell first but she took more time to admit she was totally in love with him!

It’s cute and emotional! Worth reading!

❄️Banter had me CACKLING
🤍Clay Chapman is not normal and I love him.
❄️FMC is feisty, fierce and just a smidge broken
🤍Bookish vibes throughout
❄️Grumpy V Sunshine
🤍7 year age difference (not a huge age gap IMO) BUT it works….especially towards the end.😏
❄️Toys are friends
🤍I read Chapter 33 like 3 times because it caught me off guard each time.
❄️Did I mention Clay Chapman?

-Romcoms are hard for me because I truly have to be in the mood to read them. I had never done an ARC for one but I am truly glad this was my first ARC for this genre.
-The book is a standalone and intertwines with Full Send which may be helpful to read to get to know some characters
-MMC is GRUMPY and learning about his background and story as the book unfolds tugged at
my heart strings. What a cinnamon roll 😏
-FMC Lizzy is spunky, smart, has been through it and does her best to stick to her guns. There were times, though, where her confidence went out the window.
-Once the spice hits, the spice be SPICIN’🌶️🥵🔥
-I absolutely loved their relationship, even from the very first meet.
-READ THE EPILOGUES!

ARC reader 🥰🥰🥰

Clay x Lizzy
✨ reverse age gap 😉
✨ forced proximity 🔥
✨ grumpy/sunshine 🙃
✨ best friend’s fiancé’s brother 🫢
✨ heartbreak 💔 and healing ❤️‍🩹

I’ve been looking forward to Lizzy’s love story ever since I met her in book 1 of this series, and book 2 surpassed all of my dreams and expectations for her.

I love the way Clay embraces all of her, even the things that make her “extra”, and boy do I love me a supportive MMC! He’s not intimidated by her larger-than-life personality, and it’s exactly the kick in the ass he needs to open up himself and venture out of the isolated lifestyle he’s found himself stuck in for the last several years.

A huge THANK YOU to Dakota for trusting me to preview such an incredible story. Now please tell me Grace gets a book next?!

Was lucky enough to get an ARC for this and just finished it. I am obsessed with Lizzy and Clay!!! Their chemistry and banter were 10/10, spicy scenes were 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ too! This was such a cute and fun story to read and I will definitely pick up future D. Forest books!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

DNF at 50%. The plot just didn’t hold my attention unfortunately. I felt like everything they were building up to happened already and gave me nothing to look forward to or get me thru the next 50% of the book. I was not able to get invested enough to keep going. I know other people are going to love this, but it just didn’t hit for me.
