Sevyn Stephens spent her entire childhood on the outside looking in, watching her father and his family bask in wealth and privilege while she and her mother struggled to make ends meet.
But when tragedy strikes, Sevyn is thrust into the opulent world of her father, forced to move into his mansion with her younger sister Ciara and her cold, calculating stepmother. In order to survive, Sevyn tries her best to remember and utilize every piece of advice her mom instilled in her, but will it be enough?
Meanwhile, Nash Knight, the 28-year-old black sheep of a powerful oil dynasty, harbors a dark past that has left his heart frozen solid. Constantly being compared to his older, more charming brother, Marcello, Nash fully embraces his rebel title to the core. Tasked with working at his family's company, Nash is faced with life-changing information that forces him to confront his demons once and for all.
When Sevyn and Nash are forced into each other's orbit, sparks fly, but not the romantic kind—at first. They seem to clash on everything, each guarding secrets and nursing old wounds. Yet, as they spend more time together, they begin to realize they share more in common than they could have ever imagined. In a world where trust is a luxury and loyalty is bought and sold, Sevyn and Nash must navigate their feelings and decide whether their growing connection is worth all of the tragedy that may come their way.
In this blazing urban standalone, Aleisha Dawn will take you on an unforgettable journey of love, lust, loyalty, and betrayal. You must determine if everything is worth the cost.
Aleisha does it again! I was headed down a terrible reading slump and here comes this entertaining story catching me from falling lol. I enjoyed this story. This was a gentle reminder of how greed and jealousy can ruin everything. And the secrets will always reveal themselves. Nash and Sevyn overcame so many obstacles but I loved them together. Marcelo was awful, as was Cassandra! A small part of me felt bad for Ciara but she wasn’t innocent either. 🥴
OMG OMG OMG!! This book was SO good! The secrets twist just kept on twisting — Aleisha Dawn hit me with surprise after surprise!
Sevyn, you deserve every bit of this happiness after everything.
Nash — I wasn’t too sure about you at first, but you really surprised me in the best way. Love looks good on you!
Teagan and Kane, y’all are my kind of friends!
Still not sure how I feel about Janine,… I need time to process that one 😩
Miss Nina, hands down my favorite! You had me cracking up!
Meanwhile, Preston and Vanessa got off way too easy if you ask me.
Cassandra, pure hell. Ciara, just a baby caught up in all this mess — truly a victim of circumstance. And Marcello? Whew, karma came fast and it was well-deserved! Nasty man!
Aleisha Dawn delivered everything: drama, emotion, family secrets, and love. I couldn’t put it down.
Ok story! Personally I wouldn’t have forgiven my father. Him not paying her mom health insurance is why she died. Honestly Sevyn was a little weak to me. She didn’t stand up for herself or have a backbone.
Also, if you authors are going to write about medical conditions research them first. You can’t have low blood sugar and be on insulin that can kill you. People with high blood sugar is on insulin. This is coming from a diabetic who takes insulin everyday.
It was very quick and predictable but extremely entertaining and it flowed. I enjoyed reading this story and glad karma dealt with all parties involved lol
This was such a messy read… secrets unraveling one after another. Cassandra was pure evil to the point it was annoying and Ciara didn’t deserve that ending!!
Happy she went to someone who loved her and went to therapy cause a lot of ppl don’t believe in goin get the proper help they need. I like sev and ci relationship. I hope sev and Nash be the ones to get married . God forgive me but sevyn daddy karma caught up to him. I pray sevyn them have a baby before his brother them. I’m so happy that she’s finally getting her happy ending but sad for cici. I love Kane for Teagan. I can’t wait till he finds out the truth and fire they 🍑s. Whew karma done caught up to all of them. Great read I laughed and hopefully we get a spinoff or a update from all of them but mostly Kane and Teagan
Always remember your worth is never measured by how a man treats you.
Sevyn has been dealing with heartbreak after the death of her mom and her aunts murder, she’s forced to move in with her ain’t shxt father. Soon Karma comes for him and she left with her evil stepmother and younger sister Ciara. Sevyn and Ciara have to marry the brother to another oil tycoon to help both families. Ciara marries Marcelo and is happy with her choice until she finds out the grass ain’t always greener on the other side. Sevyn marries Nash who’s an asshole when they first meet and after. Sevyn and Nash falling for each other was too cute. I loved the Disney trip. Kane and Teagan was too cute too. I’m glad everyone who was snake got exactly what they deserved.
This is my first read by the author and I was not disappointed. I was hooked from the opening to the ending. The characters were interesting and developed enough to keep me invested in their outcome. The flow was good and I’m not mad at the way the author chose to do a time jump to wrap things up.
The situation with Nina’s house I am assuming it was you know who. All in all, this was a great way to be introduced to this authors work. I do hope that Kane and Teagan as well as Nina get a story.
3.5⭐️🌶️🌶️ Money is the root of all evil, and karma really is a bitch. If those aren’t the truest statements for this story, I don’t know what is. I think that the author did a very good job with the flow of the book, but not for nothing. All the backstabbing in the drama was too intense, and some of the bombs that were dropped, really, I didn’t see coming. I would’ve loved to have an epilogue, but I know lots of authors. Don’t write them, Nash and Sevyn. Really deserve to be happy because of all the trauma, trials, and tribulations that they faced in their childhood, and they really were good people.
This was interesting. In all honesty, this wasn’t the book I was trying to check out. But because I wasn’t paying attention to my search results. The story was enjoyable.
Sevyn, Nash, Ciara, Marcello…whew! It’s definitely dramafied….lots of surprises and secrets. Many parts could’ve been more detailed and more developed. Ending is fairly satisfying. All the loose ends were wrapped up.
This is my 1st book by this author and won't be my last. This book was full of drama, secrets and lies. What's done in the dark will always come to light.
I finished this book in one sitting and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. It really was enemies to lovers with a touch of humor hehehe. Would definitely read again when I have time.
From start to finish, there was DRAMA. More than half the characters were trash people who did trash things or were catch up in trash people. Once Nash put his on his big boy pants and stopped being a butt, he was cool. I’m happy Sevyn got the love she deserved.
Felt like I'm reading a Novella. Everything was just rushed through. The storyline could've been a solid 5 stars if we got the intricate details because how did Sevyn and Nash end up at the OBGYN's office to check on their baby when the pregnancy was not even introduced? 3 stars and even that is generous❗
Now this had potential but baby it fell flat in unimaginable ways. Arranged marriage trope usually don’t bother me but this one was unsettling for a number of reasons. My biggest issue is MMC was unbearable, judgmental and rude. Like from the first meeting between him and Sevyn he was moving off pure assumptions. Then it’s noted that he has his homie pull her background info yet he can’t find much other than her mama is dead. With this info in mind he still keeps going with the snobbery and rude remarks. Sevyn had it rough but she was so flip floppy throughout the story that by the end it was just like whatever. The author did a TERRIBLE job of creating that spark and romance and love between the two. Like I promise the man was mean for 10 chapters and said two nice things and Sevyn was ready to buss it wide. Like dang have some self respect lol. Marcelo and the baby sister story was horrid and ended with a bang literally. Overall this story was a quick and disturbing read, that felt rushed and underdeveloped. It lacked true romance and believable passion. It was filled with weird familial ties, tension and drama the wrapped up too quickly to even be worth mentioning.
I can’t even lie. It took me a minute to get into this book for some reason. I’m happy I didn’t stop reading. I can’t even lie. It took me a minute to get into this book for some reason. I’m happy I didn’t stop reading.! Once I got into it, it was a good book. Nash was so judgemental at first. Sevyn, Ciara, Nash, and Marcello were thrown into a situation they had no idea how to handle. But they are young and smart enough to realize what this union means for their families and proceed to face all the music. Ciara was a lost child. Her evil mom ruled her life, and it was sad bcuz whenever she had a mind of her own, nor a backbone. Cassandra evil self got a special place in hell for her. Sevyn father wasn't a good father, but he tried to make up for it on his death bed by leaving her his entire inheritance. I knew Janine was Mash real mother. Marcello, Cassandra, and Preston just hot their karma. Sevyn and Nash, I loved them together. Overall, it's a good book! it was a good book. Nash was so judgemental at first. WOW!!! Just WOW!!!! That’s all I can say. This book was fast paced. I was pissed and ready to fight air for a good amount of it BUT the way the plot only continued to thicken. WHEW!!! Sevyn was dealt the worst hand ever. Like it was loss after loss after loss. My girl was truly down bad yet kept the best spirits. To be thrown into a situation you never asked to be in and then continue to be treated like crap. Y’all I was rooting for Sevyn to get some peace sooo bad.
Her dad passed away and she’s told in order to receive her inheritance that he’s left her, she has to marry someone from another family. But wait, there’s more. Not only does she have to marry someone, so does her sister. Welp! Sevyn is against it but Ciara begs her to do it. So she does! Insert Nash, the man Sevyn is suppose to marry and insert Marcelo the man Ciara is suppose to marry. So Nash is suppose to be the black sheep of the family while Marcelo is suppose to be the golden boy.
Y’all Marcelo was bih made, Nash was bae and watching this story unfold was wild af. You will not see some of the stuff coming and it really broke my heart to see how so many things were done just to spite or hurt Sevyn and Nash. Like the fact that they ended up with each other, then fell in love was a blessing. Because they were exactly who each other needed and they didn’t even know it.
This was a really good story and despite pissing me off I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Jealousy, envy, control, and greed is something because so much bad occurred and it was all for some damn money. WHEW!!!
This author is new to me. With the way the storyline, drama, lies, deceit, secrets and betrayal had me locked in on every single page, I’m ready to go through the catalog!
Sevyn + Nash
Sevyn has had her share of tragedy and “bad luck” forcing her to move into the mansion her father shares with his wife and their daughter. Laced with the wisdom and life lessons from her mother and aunt, she tries her best to navigate her new life with her evil stepmother. Now she is forced into an arranged marriage. Nash is the black sheep of the family. Family secrets keep him from having a relationship with his mother, “twin brother” and “father”. Once he is giving the ultimatum of entering an arranged marriage or losing the billion-dollar company that is his grandfather legacy, family secrets and betrayals are revealed.
Marcello + Ciara
Ciara is the naïve younger sister of Sevyn and often in the middle of the strained relationship between her mother and sister. A sudden tragedy within her family forces her into an arranged marriage where deceit and betrayal catch up to her. Marcello is a monster. He’s selfish and conniving. With the help of his father, he tries his best to get Nash out of the picture so that he can finally be at the top of his family’s oil company.
This story held my interest from the 1st page. I devoured it.
This book was so good and I really enjoyed it. Sevyn went through so much in life starting at a young age when her mom passed away and then her aunt and caregiver gets unalived. Then she has to move in with her weak, spineless father Curtis, evil stepmother Cassandra, and ditsy sister Ciara. After Curtis passes away Sevyn and Ciara finds out that they have to marry twin brothers Nash the bad boy and Marcello the good son. Cassandra schemed to make sure that Ciara married Marcello and Sevyn to marry Nash. This book had soooooooo many shocking revelations and was a good page turner. I can truly say that it was jaw dropping when the real Marcello was revealed and how/why he met his demise. Ciara and Cassandra thought that Ciara was getting Prince Charming but baaaaaabyyyy he was very far from it especially when he had Ciara rushing home for her surprise😂🤣 I still don’t understand why they had to marry though and why Curtis let Cassandra control him when he was the one running the company. I felt like Cassandra was responsible for Nina’s house and I’m glad that justice was received for Janet. I like how Teagan always had Sevyn and how Kane always had Nash. Kane and Teagan were good together just like Nash and Sevyn once they got to know each other.
This was a very refreshing read following the life Sevyn Stephen’s and Nashier “Nash” Knight. Sevyn mother passed away from an illness when she was only 8 years old. Her father didn’t want to take her end because she was technically the illegitimate child. Her father knew bringing Sevyn into the household would upset his wicked wife Cassandra. Instead Sevyn went to live her mother’s sister Janet. Like was decent for Sevyn that was until her aunt Janet was murdered around her graduation time. That incident forced her father to take her in along with his wife and other daughter Ciara that was two years younger than Sevyn. Sevyn’s father ended up passing away as well from an illness and left his entire inheritance to Sevyn (out of guilt) on the stipulation that Sevyn and he sister were to marry the Knight brothers Marcello and Nash (oil tycoons of the industry) Nash’s grandfather also passes away and in his will it was indicated that in order for Nash the remain the CEO of the company he will have to marry one of the Stephen sisters. This story had me laughing and wowing the entire way through. T
Aleisha, you never fail me. This was a great read from beginning to end. I love how Nash just thought that Sevyn was a spoiled brat until they got to know each other. I'm also glad that Cierra thought that Marcello was the prize and he was the monster. I knew from the beginning of the book that Janine was Nash mother because of how she was to him and knew more about him than Vanessa. Preston was close with Marcello because he was his son, and they were just alike. Marcello and Cassandra got what they deserved for all the pain they caused Sevyn and Nash. Sevyn's father was very so a coward, and that why he took sick in the first place. Teagan and Nina was all the support Sevyn needed after her mother and aunt passed. Kane was a real friend and had Nash back. It was a great read and I recommend that you read it
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and make things work in order to protect yourself and your love ones. This story was all about choices and what happens as a result of the choices you make. There were choices each of the characters in this story made that dictated the outcomes of their lives. There was secrets, lies, deception, scheming, cheating and more. Some of the characters were victims of the choices of others and were doing their best to deal with it and make the most of the situation they were in. All of this had consequences that were eye opening, revealing, and at times jaw dropping. Some had devastating effects and others had positive outcomes in the end. No billionaire bought anybody but money, power, status and legacy definitely made them make choices which also caused many consequences. Great read.
Probably one of the best arranged marriages plot I’ve read. The drama was good, it had the right amount of smut. I couldn’t put this book down. At first I side eye Nash because sir there is no reason for you to be this damn mean and judgmental but he changed through out the book. Finally there was a FMC that wasn’t weak or annoying. I truly loved Sevyn, she is the complete opposite of Ciara who by the was is just dumb. Marcello is undeniably the worst kind of person on earth right next to Ciara’s momma. I’m glad they both got what they deserve. I really want to see what goes on with Kane and Teagan because they were a cute couple, also I love Ms.Nina. She by far my favorite character in the book. I’m glad Nash and Ms.Janie are on good terms now that the secrets have been exposed. Also Sevyn’s dad is just a true disgrace.
I experienced the ultimate culture shock reading this book. I recently got into Black romance, and I guess I didn’t realize there were levels to it. At first, it felt like fan fiction, but I eventually understood it was simply the book’s style—one I’m clearly not used to. The vocabulary, dialogue style, and everything in between had me stressed out till the very last page.
That said, one thing I’ve noticed about Black writers (from what I’ve read so far) is that they don’t waste time on unnecessary background fluff. They get straight to the point and peel back the layers of the plot as the story unfolds, which I think is brilliant.
I absolutely loved the drama in this—it was such a quick read. And honestly? The TikTok recommendation that led me to pick this up wasn’t wrong—it really gagged me. Tyler Perry, give this woman a call.
Cassandra, Preston and especially Marcello got the karma they were owed. Cassandra was an evil jealous person and raised Ciara to be a boujee doormat. They though the was doing something by changing which brother Sevyn was suppose to marry thinking Marcello was a better choice than Nash. Joke was on them. Nash and Sevyn really had a lot in common. I hate how he judged her in the beginning before he even knew her. That's why you never judge a book by it's cover. I'm glad they decided to give each other a real chance. I knew something was off about Nash's parents. I never would have guessed that though. I'm glad that everyone that deserved to be happy was happy.💙💙
This book really had me going Because my thoughts were all over the place with the characters, especially Especially Nash, I kind of felt like Marcello was a fake because he was too nice and you could tell he was just in it for the money. Then Preston had a bunch bs with him. They were so evil and wrong the way they did Nash. Cassander needed to have several seats trying run her grown daughters life. She got exactly what she deserved.Happy Sevyn finally got her heart desires. Ciara really needed to grow up, she have a lick of sense.not even to think on her own. Too bad that it took a while but happy she got a backbone too bad it took getting hiv to do it. Nash was an angry lovable rude thug.
