Little Demon in the Details

Rate this book
When an arranged marriage between two powerful families sparks suspicion, Blake Carter doesn't hesitate to take advantage of the bride's younger brother for answers.

Mercer Bentley Palmerston is an outcast—the pariah of his family—so what better source to get dirt on the Palmerstons than their black sheep?

Intrigued by his lingerie, Blake sees an opportunity to get closer to Mercer, but he has no idea how much trouble he's invited into his life by taking him in.

Mercer might be a brat, but Blake has no interest in taming him. He's a sly demon with ever-changing rules, a larger-than-life personality, and covers his weaknesses with sharp wit. There's more to Mercer than his outright refusal to behave, and Blake is the only one who realizes why.

Blake, trained and practiced in all forms of private contracting, has a keen eye for details and reading people, including Mercer. But the brat won't make it easy for him.

Something isn't right underneath all the fake Palmerston smiles. Can Blake and Mercer learn to trust one another to get to the source?

A brat in lingerie. A lethal man with patience. Corruption, lies, and deceit. Powerful families with hidden agendas. A burnt grilled cheese sandwich, a hoodlum look, a deceptive game that is as dangerous as it is sexy.

Little Demon in the Details is an MM standalone full-length novel.

Review edited with new and updated content warnings and safety info after second read. Still 5 stars. Filthy greatness, lol.

Book safety, content warnings and tropes down below.

“Are you gay?” he asks. “No.” “Do you wanna fuck me?” he asks with no shame. “You make my cock hard, but I haven’t decided if your personality turns me off yet.

I’m trying to figure out what to say about this book, and all I can really think of is: It’s just as good as it sounds. A lot of the time you come across books with tropes, tags and kinks that just *speaks* to you, but still end up disappointing you a little, exactly because it sounded too perfect. That honestly wasn’t the case here. It looked perfect, sounded perfect, and it freaking was perfect (for me). This will definitely be a reread, and I’m crossing all my fingers and toes that it’ll be on audio eventually.

Feisty little hoodlum on the streets, lingerie wearing badass in the sheets.

Unlike many others lately, I haven’t read Garron Park or Lot 62 (just not my favorite tropes), but with the way this author writes, I can certainly see why those books are so popular. I can only imagine how well this one will do. I’m in love with her writing. It just flows so well. I had an absolute blast reading it. The pacing felt right, and I got just the right amount of romance (so sweet and good), the right amount of action and suspense (so cool and attention-grabbing), and the perfect amount of spice (so hot and so emotional).

“Tell me how to dominate you while never making you feel like you’re less than me. […]”

Blake is the nicest murderer ever. I think he’s my new favorite book boyfriend. I do love a man who isn’t afraid of his own feelings or showing them, and the way he put himself out there in order to be everything Mercer could ever need absolutely melted my heart. They are a power couple in all the best ways, but without being perfect. I love them. I might be in love with them. I hope everyone who’s intrigued by these tropes and the author adds it to their TBR so they don’t forget about it when release day comes. I don’t know if my recommendations mean much, but as long as this book is safe for you, give it a try.

“Housekeeper?” Blake asks, walking down the hall without a shirt on. As much as I love the view, I’m fucking seething. That body is mine to look at and mine alone. The dagger flies right by his head and sticks into the ridiculous photo of a bunch of piano keys on his wall. He doesn’t even flinch, but he sure as shit smirks deeper. “Morning, demon.” He steals the latte I already stole and yanks his hoodie right off my body and throws it on. He sets a gentle kiss on my sneering lips that feels a lot like a taunt, so I call him a dick and grab a new hoodie from the couch. He steals my spot at the island while I do that.

There’s so much I could gush about with this book, but I need to mention this: There’s plenty of amazing spicy scenes in this, but the one where they finally let go and just.. make love? I goddamn swooned. So emotional, hot, and sweet. Oh x2! I laughed a lot as well, which is always a good sign. Every interaction between Mercer and Dee had me rofl’in.

“I need you to do that thing where you smother me with your body and touch me all over while I sleep.” “You mean cuddle?” I scoff. “No.”

I adored the epilogue.

No buts.

I climb off the couch to pace, calling my dad. As soon as he picks up, I feel Mercer tugging on the back of my shirt, trying not to get in my way, but being clingy because that’s who he is. A boy with abandonment issues and a fear of being alone. I smooth a hand over his hair, showing him he isn’t bothering me.

Mostly erotica (porny) with a thin plot and 2 obnoxious characters (especially that annoying brat). So if you liked “Just a bit wrecked” this is the right book for you. It gave me the same vibes (I even liked a bit the big and aloof Top here unlike the one in Hazard’s book) .

I did not want to put this book down to sleep!

I love the dynamic between Blake and Mercer and how they figure each other out. I also loved how Mercer found himself and it didn't feel so turbulent to be inside his mind as he developed.

This honestly felt like reading an entire season of a TV show in one book, there was just so much happening! I'd say it felt quite similar in chaos level to Alter Arlo, where you're always wondering what's coming next, which was great for building tension and keeping my attention fully.

I definitely wouldn't say no to reading about Blake's brothers either... 😁

Thank you for the ARC Nordika Night!!

Little Demon in the Details is a wonderfully entertaining grumpy/sunshine romance between a demanding brat Mercer and his gruff and stoic protector Blake. Together they are just magic, I love how captivated both characters are by the mere presence of each other. They are devoted to protecting and owning the other, which creates many steamy moments of control, dominance, and utter desperation.

Mercer is one complicated character. He is the youngest in his family and doesn't get any recognition, attention, or love from anyone, which makes Blake the perfect solution to all of his inner turmoil. Blake is tasked with protecting Mercer from imminent threats, which is the central plot of the story. Together Blake and Mercer go on quite an intense journey where they learn to depend, trust, and completely devote themselves to one another.

I found this story addicting from beginning to end. I love the push/pull dynamics of these two characters and how feral and possessive they are with one another. Such a fun read that made me sad when it finished.

Brattitude: a mood or mannerism reflecting brattish or immaturely rebellious behaviour. Comes with bitchfits. It's a whole personality.

Man, this book was long. A bit too long, if you ask me. Still, it was totally worth my while and super sassy Mercer made it entertaining as hell. I loved Blake too and I’m def giving extra credit for the great bunch of side characters.

“Why are you walking like that?”
Bronson asks as soon as I walk into Aaron’s apartment. Because I got dicked-down and bred by the god of thunder last night. “Exercise.”

And while this book reminded me a whole lot of another one I didn’t mind and really really hope there is more where this came from. Blake has two brothers too after all, right?

Nordika Night you have ruined me in the best possible way. I’m still not over Garron Park and Lot 62 but I’m pretty sure you just gave me a new obsession. This was 10/10 for me.

Little Demon in the Details was phenomenal, I hands down could not put this book down. I kept reaching for my phone dying to know what Mercer would do or say next. Mercer and Blake are everything. I just can’t get enough of these two. The dynamic and chemistry between them is unbelievably magical.

Mercer hasn’t had the easiest life and I love how Blake commits to building him up. There’s nothing Blake wouldn’t do for his Little Demon. Mercer is a demanding little untamed brat and stops at nothing to push Blake past his limit. Blake was so caring and sentimental at times to also be a contract killer. While he was also strict and commanding at other moments. It was everything! Nordika Night did NOT disappoint.

I loved going on this journey with Blake and Mercer. This book has so many steamy moments plus some suspense. The thrill and mystery of what was going to happen next easily keep me engaged. I loved it, “NO BUTS”.

Make sure you read the trigger warnings. This one also has some really sad/dark moments, that made my heart hurt for Mercer. God, I love his little bratty heart. I love how he found himself and owned it, I think Blake’s support made all the differences in his life. All Mercer wanted was for someone to see his true self and Blake recognized it, and accepted it without question. I love how Blake let his little demon get away with stuff he would of killed other people for. Mercer is one of my new favorite book characters. He just speaks to me and is that inter-voice waiting to get out. I easily connected with him.

My only complaint was the end. I wish we had of got the actual “event” IYKYK, and not just talk of it. Plus the book ended and I didn’t want to say goodbye. I want to live here with these characters and follow them forever.

Nordika Night you just became one of my instant buy, no questions asked authors. You write absolutely beautifully and your work is outstanding!

All the characters in this were so well thought out and portrayed. The story came together so easily and I love the justice everyone helped Mercer get against his family. I just loved Aaron and Blake’s brothers. I hope we get more of them in the future.

This was an MM romance, hurt/comfort, size difference, brat, touch starved, possessive/touch him & die with strict top and bottom. Please be aware that Mercer does not have healthy coping mechanisms because of how he was raised/treated. He may come off as too immature to some people but I absolutely adore him. His bratty wit and snarky attitude just made me love him more. I adore his little attention seeking heart.

If you need someone’s attention, take a page out of Mercer’s book and burn a grill cheese and set the fire alarms off. 🤣👏🤷🏻‍♀️🙌

CW/TW:
MC with childlike coping methods, minor dominance and submissive tendencies, panic attacks/PTSD, abandonment issues, a manipulative character (more in a fun way), neglectful/absent/cruel parents, cum play, a touch of murder, some violence, sexual coercion/sexual coping, explicit language, detailed sex scenes.

Thank you for letting me read an ARC for you Nordika Night ♥️

Easily, EASILY, EA-SI-LY one of the best books I've read this year!

I may not be consistent in my review and I apologize in advance, but I'm just too excited to talk about this novel! It was so freaking good…

Even though I was looking forward to it so much, I was also really afraid to read this because Nordika became a favorite author who I admire so much after reading Garron Park and Lot 62. Sometimes when our expectations are too high, we can be quickly disappointed. Spoiler alert: It was definitely not the case here!

I don't even have the words to say how much I love Mercer and Blake. 🥹😍

My sweet little demon Mercer... Finally a brat with depth and a clear and logical written past that immediately makes us understand why he is the way he is. Once you understand why he acts a certain way, it's impossible not to get easily attached to him. Just like that he's become my favorite brat for life, but he's so much more than that too...

"What kind of attention did you want from me?" All of it. Undivided. Love. Understanding. I want him to see me and still look at me because I'm worthy of being looked at. I want him to look under my mask and understand why I wear it. I want him to notice me because every outward part of me shows the truth of all the inward parts of me, and then I want him to peel my layers back and still give me all his attention because the mess he finds underneath is still worth it.

And OMG Blake! One of the best book boyfriends ever written... His way of reading Mercer, of understanding him, of giving him everything he's ever desperately needed, of challenging him, of comforting him, and above all of helping him rise to the top without ever changing who he is deep down inside…
Really, he's just perfect! They both are.

He's powerful because of the confidence he has in himself, but he's even more powerful because of the confidence he has in me to handle whatever he throws at me. He's a true bad boy because he asks me what I need and then delivers what I ask for. He doesn't tiptoe around me, chicken out when I'm at my lowest, and he stands his ground when I try to manipulate him. The best part is that he doesn't get offended when I win. Like in the shower that night. Blake is the ultimate bad boy because he knows how to handle himself and he does the work to make sure I'm handled like I want to be.

They were so filthy together… Wow… And I mean WOW! 🔥🔥🔥 I loved every second of it! If like me you enjoy c*m play, you’ll pretty much be in paradise here! (So beyond thankful my parents won't be reading this! 🤪) The book is full of the best smut I’ve read, I just couldn't not mention it.

I lick our cum from his ass, sucking it into my mouth. He's yanking on my hair, already knowing what I'm going to do, bringing my mouth to his to swap cum like he can't get enough of it. I spit it into his mouth and he gives it back. It drips down our chins and my fingers swipe through it to shove it back into his mouth.

Frankly, if you decide not to read this book, you're really missing out on something extraordinary. The story kept me captivated right to the end, and the love between Mercer and Blake is magnificent! 💜💜💜💜💜

"You're going to ruin my life," Blake says with a smile on his face. "And make it fucking fun. You're going to be my brat when you want to be, my partner all the time, and my good little boy when you need to be reminded how fucking important you are. You know what I'm going to be for you?" I shake my head, crying again. Desperate to know what he's going to be for me. Wondering if he's as psychotic as I am, falling this hard this soon. "Everything. Yours. You fucking own me, Mercer. I'm not going anywhere."

Personally, I couldn't find a single negative point, I highly recommend it...
I beg you… (Blake would be so proud of me 😅) Please just read this book!

Idk it’s just not doing it for me like I hoped it would. Too much is going on. And the brat thing is kinda getting on my nerves. I thought I liked brats but maybe not. I might go back and finish this someday, but not anytime soon.

Also kinda upset that my first book of the year is a DNF :(

"Mercer has learned how to use his body as a weapon, a distraction, and a taunt, and I have no doubt he’s just as dangerous as I am. He’s slender without being delicate, firm without being overly toned, and graceful while being rambunctious. He’s the bull and the china shop. His dark hair is mussed up and messy on purpose, adding to his wild boy image, but it doesn’t overly fit his lingerie energy. Maybe he likes it that way."

Nordika Night has quickly become one of my go-to, must-read authors and she's come up with another fabulous murdery, dark and dirty read in Little Demon in the Details!

Little Demon in the Details is a standalone MM dark romance between Mercer, the outcast youngest son of the Palmerston (shady) dynasty and Blake, the bodyguard/assassin given the task of watching/watching over him. Their relationship has a very different dynamic to the characters in the other books I've read by Nordika - which I totally loved!

So many MM books I am reading at the moment are just the author regurgitating the same old story with a different set of names - but not this author! All the kudos to Ms Night for keeping it real and mixing it up.

Check the author's notes on some of the dark themes, and be prepared for:

🌶️opposites attract
🌶️small age gap (23/30)
🌶️angsty
🌶️first times
🌶️hurt/comfort but with a twist
🌶️forced proximity
🌶️off the charts steam
🌶️off the charts chemistry
🌶️twisty, murdery plot
🌶️HEA

I loved it!

I want my own bratty little demon, can we arrange that please? Or, in Nordika's words,
Feisty little hoodlum on the streets, lingerie wearing badass in the sheets will do just fine.

I don't like mafia romance, or serial killer romance. Like, i DNF those like i'm getting paid for it. Well, not this one! This is an exception, and i am not sure why. We meet Blake (an assassin essentially, with his 2 other assassin brothers and father) Carter. Then, there is Ben, or Mercer, and he is the perfect brat. I can be bratty, but he just takes the term to a new level. He manipulates people around him for attention, and is clingy and has a truckload of abandonment issues.

Blake takes immediate interest in this rich kid, and the rich kid has no other place to be, so he follows Blake, and that's how they establish their captor/captive relationship which is not forced, but also just not entirely natural on paper, yet somehow works from the start. Blake decides he wants to help the kid thrive in this weird rich family / mercenary business setting, and Mercer has never had anyone wanting anything good for him in his 23 years of life, so he goes with it.

When we get home, he strips out of his club clothes and puts on baggy sweats and a hoodie that looks a lot like one of mine. It is mine. Fucking thief.

This book was OTT in a lot of ways. The theme(s), plot and characters were a lot, the suspense and action were convoluted, and there were references to the rich and powerful of the world that i felt were unnecessary.
Come on, Mr. Demon. Let's meet some affluent douchebags. There are a few good ones.

Then there's the romance, as this is, first and foremost, a male/male romance between a 30yo assassin and a 23yo billionaire kid - although when he was calling him kid and especially 'little boy' all the time, i was cringing - at first, but after a while, it grew on me somehow, which is a testament to Nordika's writing. Which, let me just tell you, is phenomenal. I was entertained, i smirked, laughed, and just had a good ol' time.

A fun fact, this world the author builds is absolutely non-homophobic, and the women here are surprisingly not shrill or disgusted by the shenanigans of the men, and there are some mentions of poly relationships. Basically, we get a thorough love-is-love setting, and this is what makes it seem fantastical to me, especially this old money / business situation the rich families have going on. Add to this that the sex scenes were... something else.

On one of the FB groups someone asked for rec's with lots of 💦 play - this is the ticket right here. My god, there was a lot of it. So much, in fact, that at some point it stopped being hot and just became a technical exercise in "where else can it go" and "how many times can you swap it". Nonetheless, the banter surrounding it remained entertaining.

"Why are you walking like that?" Bronson asks as soon as I walk into Aaron;s apartment.
Because I got dicked-down and bred by the god of thunder last night. "Exercise." I breeze past him.

If you are able to take some things with a grain of salt, i would highly recommend this read. It was a good time all throughout.

Blake + Mercer 🖤
Brat | Hurt/Comfort | Broken Boy

A deeply broken boy hiding behind a bratty persona and the man who showed him he was worth everything. ❤️

"I know you've been alone in this forever, but you aren't anymore."

....
SO MANY QUOTES

"I've been in a vehicle with him for thirty-five minutes and I'm already debating opening the door and shoving him out."

"Tell me what you need, little demon. What's going to feel better? When my thighs squeeze again, he notices. "You need to come, baby?"

"Why do you care?" "Because I saw your ass in lacy lingerie, and it fucked up all my brain wires."

"Fuck, he's beautiful, even in turmoil, but I never want him to suffer alone."

"I devour him until he's dripping, tongue fucking him until I know his cock will be leaking just from the build up. My boy's response to stimulation us so fucking beautiful."

"I want to dominate the fuck out of him and treat him like the brat he is, but it's our first time and I want to treasure him like the good little boy he so badly wants to be."

"There will be time for rough fucks and punishment later, but right now, I want him to know he's fucking cherished."

"You got it, Mercer. My attention. Fuck, you've got it."

"Tell me how to dominate you while never making you feel like you're less than me. I want you to ride to the top of whatever you see for yourself in life. You've been beaten down since you were a kid, and I refuse to do that to you. Tell me the right way to give you what you need without ever making you feel worthless."

"I'll never leave you baby."

Reread January 2024: still obsessed with Mercer and Blake

-----------

Little Demon in the Details is filthy hot, lots of fun, has the brattiest of brats as one of the MCs, and I loved it! 💖

I adored Mercer and Blake! These two were at each other's throats in the most entertaining way, and there was no way either of them had a chance of trying to fight their chemistry.

“I respect you,” he tells me, making me whimper. “But I will fucking use you like you want to be used. I can do both. Understand?” 🔥

Mercer is an absolute brat, he's fun, dramatic, kind of mean, and a full-on chaos demon. But underneath, the guy has so many abandonment, trust, and self-esteem issues that he's trying to deflect from and usually no one bothers putting in the effort to see the real him. Blake manages to see through Mercer's bs though, and treats him like an equal, not someone who needs to be controlled or tempered down, but instead guided and supported. Mercer needs Blake's unwavering support, loyalty, and love, and Blake needs the fun, excitement, and love Mercer brings to his life 💜

Mercer and Blake are actually perfect for each other. Watching Blake go from finding Mercer annoying but strangely intriguing to being utterly charmed by his tantrums was everything! Also, Mercer's wearing pretty lacy things under his sweats aka his hoodlum look is 🔥

"Mercer is capable of more than anyone has ever given him credit for, and I won’t be yet another person to treat him like a child. I pause for another second. But on the other hand, he is my /precious little baby/ and I will stop at nothing to ensure he is safe."

The book's emotional and kind of over the top, but it's also HOT af, fun, and I had a great time reading it. I initially gave it 4.5 stars but I already want to reread it so we're gonna bump that to 5 ✨

I buddy read this book with my friend Dana(😘) and she wrote me a most beautiful and also very accurate poem about our new fave:

😈

There once was a brat named Mercer,
He was a very good curser,

He was a bad little demon,
And liked to play with s€men,

Just an overall heathen

“Blake?” “Yeah, baby.” “Thanks for… seeing me.” He smiles at me, still sweaty and exhausted. “I’ll never stop looking, Mercer.”
I blush like an asshole because holy shit, he’s a romantic murderer.

Thrilling plot and interesting characters, Nordika Night might’ve become another instant-buy author for me. Love how she mixes hurt/comfort, action and a swoony romance.
Mercer and Blake complement each other so perfectly, the mix of brattiness and neediness balanced out by Blake’s dominant vibes was hot and amazing.

“Fuck knows how you did it, little demon, but you did.” His lips move against mine, kissing and confessing together. “Did what?” “Made me yours.”

The ending kind of dragged a little bit, but that’s probably more of a me problem.

CW and tropes(spoilers):
- Size difference
- MC with eidetic memory
- MC with panic attacks and PTSD
- Lingerie
- Cum play and cum kink
- Cock-warming scene

Second read through on audio: was just as great the second time around! Loved both of these characters and the audio was awesome! Absolutely recommend!

This book is absolutely phenomenal, I would give it 10 stars if I could! From start to finish it’s amazing and 100% worth the read. I’ve read the Garron Park series by Nordika Night and I loved it. I didn’t think any other books by this author would compare but boy was I wrong! I will never be able to do this book justice with my review. I was joking around that these emojis will probably get my thoughts across better than any words: 😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️🤯🤯🤯😍😍😍

Blake and Mercer were absolute perfection! I’d be hard pressed to find two MCs who are more right for each other. Mercer is a brat who just needs someone in his corner and Blake was that someone! The way Blake saw Mercer for who he really was and knew how to be there for him and support him was incredible! I loved seeing Mercer’s growth and progress, it was such an emotional journey! And their chemistry! Woo! On fire!!!! How an author can make a BJ scene emotional and beautiful is flabbergasting!

However, this story is also so much more than just a romance. It’s got a bit of everything! Suspense, humour, interesting side characters and an intriguing plot! This book is not predictable in the slightest. At no time while reading did I know what was going to happen and there were so many twists and turns I wasn’t expecting.

Whether you have read anything by this author before or not I beg you to pick this book up! Prepare yourself for the ride of your life!

“I try not to cling to him. But I do. I’m a weak-willed bitch”

“Oh, she’s off her damn rocker if she thinks I’m going to take fashion advice from a raggedy old ho.”

“I need you to do that thing where you smother me with your body and touch me all over while I sleep.” “You mean cuddle?” I scoff. “No.”

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

This book was so funny and I really did enjoy Mercer and Blake and seeing them grow separately and together and watching Mercer come into his own! The smut was top tier, lingerie/cockwarming/cum play. Did I mention cock warming? Only two scenes but still it was 🥵

BUT the overall story just didn’t really make sense and I felt this story could have ended sooner at three separate points!

Side notes everyone in this book was a damn freak. Blake’s brothers (I hope they get books) and Aaron(the guy on the mic) he had a wife who had a boyfriend and occasionally slept with one of Blake’s brothers? We need books now! HELLO🎙️

But yeah wasn’t bad but wasn’t like a favorite

Catching up on life post wedding + honeymoon so I'll keep this quick.

THIS BOOK WAS HOT. I kept having to go into the pool on my honeymoon to cool down.

Holy shit I went into this blind and was blown away. I've only read the Vile Boys from Nordika and I was not expecting something so sweet and delicious as this?? Def entering comfort reread territory.

MM Romance
Mafia Brats
2 Stars ⭐️

🎵Narrated by Liam Dicosimo & Gabriel Michael🎵 I loved Gabriel Michael on Garron Park and was excited for more. He was definitely the best part of this audiobook especially because he adds sound effects like smoking sounds or swallowing if he’s drinking something. It’s really good and I’ll probably pick up anything he’s on. Liam Dicosimo on the other hand? I can’t believe there was ever a time that I loved this narrator and wanted to hear more. He’s not terrible but he can only do his MC well and everyone else sounds weird and butchered. I just can’t wrap my mind around my old reviews saying “I’m having a love affair with LD”. Total side eye at myself 👀👀👀👀🤣

So I should probably say that I was in the mood for a book like this and by “this” I mean OTT and crazy. I just wanted to turn my brain off for a bit. April 2025 was the month from hell and I just needed an escape okay, just a few hours of time spent on something ludicrous instead of the hell I was facing so this seemed perfect especially when I saw Gabriel Michael as a narrator. I even liked 50-60% of this book but then everything that could possibly happen, happened and it just wouldn’t fucking end. I’m talking 3 hours left on the audiobook and me thinking WTF why does this still have so much left when all the loose ends have been wrapped up?? So from there my enthusiasm for this book went to shit and any love I had for this died a swift fucking death. Had I been reading this with my eyes I would have DNF’d because I didn’t understand why it wasn’t over. Unfortunately for me I was cooking and my hands were preoccupied so I just kept listening to this book devolve into the most boring inane thing ever and it made me start to focus on some things that really fucking bugged me. The more I heard them, the more I questioned my sanity for liking any part of this book and it’s why my rating is so low.

A few years ago K Webster had a scandal because her Hood River series had the word “hoodlum” used throughout it and in book 4 there was a black character with the word “Hoodlum” right next to his head on the cover. The MCs in the book called themselves “hoodlums”, a ridiculous take on their hometown Hood River but also because they were the bad boys everyone feared blah blah and the MC’s little sister even went by “little hoodlum” 🙄🙄 Anyway this cover went viral and hoodlum went over about as well as you’d think it would so K Webster pulled that series and changed it to Horn River aka the hornets and now it’s only available on her website. So keeping this story in mind and also how derogatory the word hoodlum is in general and how it’s commonly used in a racist way, I was surprised by the number of times “hoodlum look” was used in this book. The bratty MC, Mercer has a “hoodlum look” and the other MC Blake mentions it nonstop as does everyone else. “Hoodlum look” was repeated so many times that I started to cringe when it was said. According to the kindle search feature, Hoodlum was said 32 times with “Hoodlum look” being used 21 of them. It was just excessive, repetitive and cringey. Not a good word to use imo but I’ve looked at reviews and none of them mention it. Maybe it’s just me? 🤷🏻‍♀️ So, I asked a friend what their thoughts were because maybe I’m overreacting but I discovered I’m not the only one put off by that word or the way it was used in this book.

So because of how unnecessarily long this was and the offensiveness of that word I wasn’t sure WTF to rate this but I am giving this a generous 2 stars because of the audiobook. Gabriel Michael is the reason I didn’t DNF this book and he made the sex scenes so fucking hot 🥵 or at least that’s how he made them sound initially. By the end, because this book wouldn’t fucking end 😭😭 I was actually sick and tired of hearing the sex scenes no matter how hot they were. And nothing could make up for having to hear “hoodlum look” so many times no matter how good the narration was so maybe I should be 1 starring this, who knows. 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m actually starting to question if I even enjoy this author or if liking Garron Park was a fluke because I also disliked Sick Bargain and thought it was super repetitive and cringey. I guess we’ll see how tortured I feel when I listen to Lot 62 in a few weeks. It never interested me before but with the audiobook narrators? Sign my masochistic ass up. 🤡🙄

3.25 stars ...

Everything's relative, right?
My issue with this one boils down to the fact that I read it after reading the absolutely perfect 'From Nothing' trilogy. For me, this one is nowhere near that level. Six months from now I will remember little, if anything, about this story. 🤷‍♂️

Oh, remember this quote?

If this story doesn’t end with me killing Will Palmerston, I will flip my shit. Actually, if this story doesn’t end with Mercer taking his fucking power back and knocking his father down to the gutters where he belongs before I kill him, I will flip my shit even more.

Well ... 🙄

There are two reasons why I didn’t give this book five stars.

Reason Number One: The Plot.
And I don’t mean the relationship between Mercer and Blake, which was — in fact — the main plot of this book. I mean the whole Palmerston Family Drama. The plot didn’t do anything for me. And it didn’t help that it really only started after about seventy percent.
Since the Family Drama wasn’t the main focus of the book I didn’t actually mind my disappointment about it all that much.

Reason Number Two: The Brat.
And I don’t mean Mercer as a character. I really only mean his tendency to be an over the top brat. His act was more or less the main focus of this book (just look at the title). And yes, Mercer being a brat led to some pretty awesome push and pull conversations between him and Blake but I did skip a few of those scenes because it got too much for me.
Since I liked some of it though (especially in the beginning of the book) I didn’t really mind the brat too much in the end.

There is one main reason why I loved this book anyway.

The Main Reason: The relationship between Mercer and Blake.
It was without a doubt the highlight of the book. I absolutely loved how Blake helped Mercer grow into his own person by simply being there for him. He let Mercer be. He let him explore and find his footing in the world. He understood and saw. And I really, really loved that.

What an awesome story, 4.5 stars rounded up to 5! I enjoyed it immensely! It was filthy sexy, witty, humorous, had action, good plot, and great characters. Nordika Night is becoming one of my new favorite authors. My only constructive comment is and I'm all for the smut, but just a tad more than necessary, that's what took it down a half a star for me, just didn't feel all was needed, but they were all hot as hell! Fantastic read, definitely recommend!

Just reread via audio, and it was fantastic!

2.5 stars

this could easily have been 100 pages less. just a lot of sex scenes (never thought i’d complain about that), and it felt really repetitive. ngl, i probably skimmed the last 50% of the book just to finish it.

Reread: I think I love this book even more now.

————————————————————————————

“𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘴.”

This book has all the ingredients I love: It’s fun, it’s hot and it’s emotional. I enjoyed it very much!

At the beginning, Mercer made me laugh so much by being a brat and trying to get Blake’s attention. At the same time, I knew that it was because he was suffering inside and it was a cry for help. Blake understood Mercer’s game instantly and didn’t cave, except when Mercer needed domination and rules in his most vulnerable moments.

My heart broke for Mercer. The way he craves attention because he’s been ignored and neglected all his life by his own family. He has nobody on his side, not even a friend. He was sent to a “brainwashing facility” because he was a rock in his father’s shoe, this man is evil.

Blake literally saved Mercer. He restored his self-confidence, encouraged him to use his smart brain, let him be the little brat that he is and took care of him like nobody ever did before him. I really loved their dynamic and deep connection and the sex is so so hot! If you’re into cum play, you're in for a treat. But every time, we’re reminded that Mercer has traumas and abandonment issues and it makes it all emotional. It’s what I like the most in romance, the sex is meaningful but still explosive, I need the FEELS!!

I loved the action, the twists and turns and the investigations around Mercer’s family. It's a very captivating plot that I really enjoyed. Despite everything that's going on in the story, Blake and Mercer's relationship takes center stage. Every moment they spend together and their connection, whether physical or emotional, are incredible. It’s an easy 5 stars for me.

I have to say that I don't particularly like Mafia Romance, so I was out of my comfort zone here, and I will premise that I loved Nordika Night's Garron Park series, so I gave this book a chance, but I'm sorry to see that at some point her writing becomes repetitive and boring. 😐👉👈

The two stars are for Aaron, who is pretty much the only character I liked here, and he's a secondary character (that's says a lot). 😅

On the other hand, I can't say I found a connection with Blake and Mercer, it was a rush, all of it. They fell in love after a few weeks (which can happen, but I found it forced), the plot is the usual mafia cliché, I didn't find the way Mercer's abandonment issues were dealt with, in fact I found him just a toxic annoying brat. It was both physically and mentally hard for me to read about his shenanigans and dialogues, and not in a good way. 😶‍🌫️

I expected more exploration of Blake's sexuality, but it was only mentioned several times that he had a couple of bi experiences, apparently to justify his attraction to Mercer? That is all. 🙄🤌

The sex scenes made me impassive, they did not add value or meaning to their relationship, they were put there as if they were some porn scenes. 🥲

Meh, not my thing, neeeext 🙅🏻‍♀️

So many people love and swear by this book, I wish I could, I hate to not finish a book (this year only happen 5 times in more than 100+ books)

I like to think I have a high bullshit tolerance, but this one was bad...

We met Blake - his an assassin, a highly trained and respected criminal (sounds promising) out of nowhere he decides to save Mercer, our other main Mc even without knowing if that will benefit him.
His name should be blank, because that's his personality, blank. He's only there so be whatever Mercer needs.

Mercer - such a brat (in a bad way). He's one of the most unlikable characters I ever read. He's truly a bad person who likes to do annoying shit for the sake of it. Yeah, he went through a lot but at what point that stops being an acceptable excuse to being shitty?

This book is a porn trying to be a book, I just couldn't read more s*x scenes. Wish I could give it a better note...

The dynamic between the two MCs was fun. I love mutual possessiveness and codependency, mixed with some hurt/comfort.
There were way too many sex scenes for my liking though. I ended up skimming most of them (and therefore also most of the book? lol).
I enjoyed the various outfit descriptions though!

« That asshole became my safe place. He’s my wall, the lock on my door, the only person who sees me and loves me because of it. »

I loved this book. We find Nordika's writing style that I love. It's funny, moving, full of action. She knows how to make us attach to her characters.

Blake and Mercey are made for each other. A needy brat and a cold but cute murderer. They complement each other and with that, lots of sexy and super funny moments. I loved jealousy games, sex games.

Nordika mixes romance, comedy and action and it always works so well!
It was just a bit too long for the story.

Thank you for this ARC, I can't wait to read the next ones.
