Harbinger #1

Twice Lost

Rate this book
Jenna Thanatos thought she was ordinary; just your everyday girl with a healthy sexual appetite and a few kinks to boot. After moving to Maine to be closer to her boyfriend, Kyle, Jenna was starting a new chapter in her life. Little did she know, this chapter had more to offer than she ever thought possible.

One night of fun exhibitionism turns Jenna’s world upside down and shoves her face first into a world she never knew existed. Harbinger. Female Harbinger. The thing of legends, a myth foretold by ancient seers, but it couldn’t be true. She was just her. Besides, things like that didn’t exist. After being kidnapped, shot at, chased, and sprouting wings, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

Timoteus, an ancient Harbinger, has been searching for Jenna for years after finding out that she truly did exist, keeping a long-term promise to an old friend to watch over his family line. His duties were to protect her, train her, and make the foretold prophecy come to fruition. After saving Jenna, they find themselves still being hunted, landing Tim right in the middle of an operation he never dreamed could exist.

Benneit Colebrook took over his father’s business after his death last year. When the mention of a female Harbinger was whispered in his ear, he knew he had to have the rare and precious being to add to his collection. And, he would do anything to get her.

Jenna now finds herself in an underground compound with two sexy as hell men, hiding away from the people hell-bent on taking her. Why? She has no clue. Yesterday she was normal, today she’s not only in a fight for her life, but also the lives of all beings that have been disappearing for centuries.

Will Jenna be able to accept who she is and face this new world head-on, or will everything come crumbling down before she has a fighting chance?

***** 4 'Head Over Wings' Stars *****

Jenna is a rare girl. She is the only female of her kind. Rumors have been circulating about her existence. So she's being hunted by humans and other higher beings.

description

She makes some powerful friends, and they help her discover who she really is. Of course all her friends have to be GQ handsome... and she is horny ALL the time. Jenna is all over the place in the sex/romance department. It's almost like she can't control herself.

This was very erotic... in a good way. Get ready to read about angels and other higher beings having some steamy moments. I really liked all the characters, but I wished the story focused a bit more on Jenna. Anyways, I can't wait to read more in this series.

* This book was given to me for a fair and honest review*

Let me preface my review by saying that paranormal books in general are not my thing. I read them, but not with the zest that I do other genres of books. So when I was given a copy I was expecting my normal ho-hum reaction. What I got instead was my socks knocked off! What an amazing book!

Jenna is a fun girl. She likes to party, have a good time….be watched while having sex…you know your normal chick. But one night changes her whole life. Everything that she believed true about herself, crushed in one night of unbelievable events. Enter Timoteus, who will teach her about her true self and all the power that it brings.

I don’t want to get to in-depth with the storyline because I believe the reader should experience it through the writer’s words, not mine. It is a very long book, so be prepared to devote a larger amount of time to it. I will say that Twice Lost is a thrill ride adventure with some serious sexiness thrown in for good measure. Honestly, there was no one thing I did not like about this book. The author did a spectacular job weaving a dark, sinister yet wonderful world. I am dying for book two!!!

After a confusing start to this book ( the wood scene, were I though Tim and Tye were supposed to be chasing her) I really got into it. I liked the how hell/ demons/ fallen angel theme and how it was all set.

The sex scenes were good and there weren't too many. I actually really appreciated the fact that the author included squirting because not many do in erotic books, many people mistaking it for pee play ( that was slightly awkward to say).

It left me wanting to learn more about all the characters and see Jenna become a badass Harbinger.

After a dodgy start this is well worth a read

DNF @ 60%. This book lost me completely.

It was equal parts erotica and paranormal. The problem is they did not mesh. This part would be erotica. Then the next chapter would be paranormal. The concept was great and the separate sides were great (the erotica was SUPER HOT). But every time things would start to move along it would switch. I lost interest about 40% in but kept pushing. Just couldn't do it. The author almost came up with something brilliant.

5 "FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC GQ BRIGADE" STARS

Let me preface this review by stating, I am a novice & very picky when it comes to PRN. If the blurb doesn't absolutely sell me, it ain't happening! I DNF more PRN books then I'd like to count, but this book was #1 in the Harbinger series. Astaroth is book 1.6 that I really wanted to try. So during this review, please forgive me using the same lingo/words while trying explain how much this book sold me.

There are so many twist & turns that I really had to pay attention. I'm not prn/fantasy savvy so if there are typical lore that this story differs from, I wouldn't know. There were plenty of species & mixed species that I've never heard of. Normally that would have me chucking the book with a DNF, however I couldn't get enough of these characters. I loved even the bad ones!! There are a couple that you wonder what happened with and I do hope she clears that up in the next book. The GQ Brigade, as Jenna called them, were 100% Hot As Hell Alpha Males!! I liked Tye & Gabe the best so far, but I’m very curious about Astaroth who only made a quick entrance. I loved the way some couples found their soul mates.

There are so many catchy one-liners that were amazing. Ms. Fields impressed me even more by giving credit for some of those one-liners to the people who actually came up with them for her. She wove a story around some very complex characters with some amazing descriptions. When they transformed that really helped you to picture their appearance . Ms. Field does have me more open to this genre and definitely a fan of this series!

This book is part of a series and you think it ends one way & bam, epilogue spins it another. I Freaking loved that! BTW, let me just say I fell "Head over Wings" for this baby! Now I can't wait to get on the next one. Twice Lost set up this series perfectly by making you actually salivate for the next book. So yes it ends in a cliffhanger, but the next book is already released so there is no waiting to hold you back from picking this one up NOW!!!

Twice Lost is book 1 in the Harbinger Series, and a fantastic 4.5 star debut novel for Jennifer Field. From page one, I was pulled into the story and it kept me hooked from beginning to end. Jenna is woman who likes sex quite a bit. A night of exhibitionism with her boyfriend takes and unexpected turn, and she soon finds out she’s a lot more than she ever imagined. I liked Jenna for the most part. She is living her life on her own terms and not ashamed of who she is. Her personality was described in a way that made it easier to accept how quickly she came to terms with being a Harbinger- a creature she never even knew existed.

I do not want to give away any spoilers, but there are several different stories going on at once. They all relate to Jenna’s tale, but do not all revolve around her. Even Tim, who is determined to protect and train Jenna, has a story of his own. The supporting characters, including Jenna’s enemies were all very well-written. Ben actually made my skin crawl. He may be one of the sickest villains I have read in a long time, and I love a good villain.

This story is dark and Earthy. There are some scenes where I quite literally cringed. As one would hope with paranormal erotica, the sex is very hot. There were some scenes that were a little disturbing to me, but nothing that made me consider putting the book down. There is a lot going on in this book, and there were times when I felt more needed to be invested into certain things such as Jenna’s training and her interactions with Tye and Gabe. The book does end with a cliffhanger. Part of the story is resolved, but there were some bigger questions left unanswered. I am definitely looking forward to the next book.

When I read the synopsis of this story, I knew I just had to read it! Boy was I surprised when this book wasn’t anything that I was expecting. Once I started I wasn’t able to put the book down because I was so engrossed with the story that Jennifer Field was creating.

I loved Jenna. She’s a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to get it. She’s quick on the uptake and isn’t afraid to sharpen her claws, but you kind of have to be when you’re surrounded by gorgeous men like she is.

Then men in this story all bring their own little quirks. You’ve got Tim who is Jenna’s guardian. He’s fierce and proactive, but you can’t help but fall in love with him. Then there is Tim, though he’s known for his hacking skills and always prepared for any situation, he’s so sweet and lovable. Then we have Gabe. He’s pretty mellow, but boy does this man heat up when the mood is right **wink wink**.

But even though it sounds like Jenna is in heaven with all these sexy as sin men, it’s really not what it seems. They’ve got a lot of dangers a head of them. With they all working together, will they be able to destroy the force that’s after them, or will they have to sacrifice everything?

Seriously, if you enjoy paranormal stories, you will LOVE this book! Seriously, there is so much to this story, you’re amazed at how incredible of a job Jennifer Field does putting it all together without doing too much. I absolutely can’t wait to see what Jennifer has in store for us for this series, because…….. THAT ENDING!!

*****Warning this book has very detailed Violence and sexual content**********
This book was given to me for my honest review

This review contains no spoilers because if you choose to read this book I will not be the to tell you what happens. Trust me the action is well worth it if this is your type of book.
I am very torn writing this review this was an amazing book. It is very violent. I couldn't put it down. With all the suspense and wondering what will happen next made for a book an amazing read but this is not my type of book It literally gave me nightmares. If that is the kind of book you like to read I'd definitely recommend this book to them.

I do have a small issue with the writing in this book. The transition from one character to another was confusing at times. I didn't know whose POV the story was being told from.
PS if this was my kind of book it would completely be a 5 star.

I really enjoy this story. Good, interesting story line. The erotic scenes were good, but did not overwhelm the story.
I like the twists and turns of this story. The characters and creatures were very different from what I have read in the past in paranormal stories.
I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Amazing!

I am all about supernatural, fallen angels, demons, pixies and everything in between.

I loved this book - the writing style is a little different at first but it flows so well. I couldn’t stop reading this.

I knew that I had it all figured out but NOPE, try again!

It was so good and there is a huge AHA moment in here- at least for me!

I can’t wait to continue with part 2!

Jenna thought she was your average over-sexed 28 year old who enjoyed sex with her boyfriend, Kyle, in public. One night, a public tryst turns deadly and Jenna finds herself in naked and in serious trouble. She is rescued by Ben, one of Kyle's college friends, who had been in attendance of Jenna's and Kyle's performance. Ben is a high power lawyer turn art dealer after inheriting the family business. Ben takes Jenna back to his mansion to recover from the night's events. What neither of them know is they are being watched. As Ben makes his move on Jenna, she can't help but succumb to the gorgeous man's advances. While in the heat of passion, armed men break into Ben's home and finally kidnap Jenna. Jenna is then drugged and thrown in a concrete crypt and trucked off to a barn in the remote hills of Maine. But someone is watching. When Jenna comes to, she tries to break free only to realize where she is and begins to scream. A lost hiker happens upon the barn and takes Jenna's captors by surprise and with little effort frees Jenna.

Tim takes Jenna to a local motel to help her make sense of what is happening. Tim has been watching Jenna for a very long time after he discovered she is the only female Harbinger in existence. Jenna has no idea of what she is but after all she's been through she can't help but trust Tim. Tim has known Jenna would come along for millennia and he promised an old friend he would protect her. But Tim has to break the news to Jenna as to what she is. When she is angry, she grows horns, claws, fangs, and sprouts wings. Not a girl's idea of beauty, but this is what Harbinger's are....Harbinger's of Death and her kind are tasked with taking the worst of the worst across the River Styx into Hell. Along the way, Tim is captured and taken to a underground storage facility where other supernatural beings are being held and tortured. In an attempt to rescue Time, Jenna is meets Tye and Gabe. Both otherworldly beings with their own secrets. Gabe is a Blood Angel and Tye.....well Jenna isn't sure and Tye isn't telling. Along the way, Gabe and Tye train Jenna to control her change and train in the warrior ways. Things get complicated with Gabe and Jenna fall in love. But the trio must focus on rescuing Tim. The trio locate Tim and help Tim and the other prisoners escape except things don't go as planned.

This is the first book by Jennifer Field I have read but it definitely won't be the last! The story flowed well and just when you thought Jenna was finally safe.....BAM....something goes wrong and the ride starts all over. The character develop was really entertaining. You are introduced to Tim and Jenna and know what the are. Gabe's true identity is hinted throughout the story until toward the end when he reveals what he truly is. Tye remains an enigma with Jenna struggling to determine what supernatural being he is. That is what makes the book so much fun. The addition of new characters at the end make for a smooth transition into the next book. The book is definitely intended for 18+ as the sex scenes are HOT. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

A unique and interesting erotic paranormal. This story took awhile for me to get into. I'm not a big erotic fan and to be honest some of the sexual situations in the book were not my taste, mainly in the beginning. When you read, you'll know what I'm talking about but be prepared this is definitely for a mature audience.
One night Jenna's world comes crashing down and her eyes are open to a cruel and darker world. She finds out she's not human but actually a female harbinger. A rare creature never thought to exist. She has a price on her head and needs to learn who to trust quickly. There are those who want to protect her and those who want to destroy her. One wrong step can mean more then just her death.
I enjoyed the concept and the overall plot. The different paranormal creatures were unique and very enjoyable to read. I loved that it wasn't your traditional paranormal read but something entirely different. The characters each had their own distinct personality and I enjoyed that the author allowed us to see into each of their points of view.
One thing I didn't care for was the main character. Jenna was all over the place for me and I still have no idea how to take her character. One minute she's whiny and the next she's throwing out orders. I found her to be annoying.
I liked Tim and Gigi. I really enjoyed their story and can't wait to hear more about that and what happens, especially with the end.
While I liked Gabe, I didn't really believe their relationship. I get they spent time together but since it wasn't in the book, I didn't feel any build up to a relationship other than lust. I think if the author showed more interaction, other than sex, I could believe that there was more to the relationship.
All that said, it was still an intriguing read and I would like to know what happens next.

Paranormal Erotica!
I have to say that I enjoy reading the occasional erotica, and that paranormal is my absolute favorite genre, but this is the first time for me reading the two together. I loved this book! I was hooked from page one and I could not put it down! I just bad to keep going until I got to the very last word. This book has everything. The main character is Jenna and she us definitely no damsel in distress! She is a strong, opinionated, sexual being with a love for kink with a capital K, yet still shows a soft sweet and vulnerable side to her. Then there is Tye, he is a Harbinger, a super hot computer wizard, who likes go be packing heat wherever he goes, and is just as beautiful on the inside as he is outside. Finally there is Tim, he is also a Harbinger and a mega hottie, with smokin tattooed bod and a bad temper, and he also happen's to be Jenna's guardian. Also we have Gabe, and yes he too is a total babe, with all of these sexy men around, what's a girl like Jenna to do? At the beginning of the story Jenna thinks that she is just your average girl, with a ginormous kinky sexual appetite, but one night all that changes. Let's just say one of her kinky exploits lands her in a heap of trouble. Oh and did I mention, naked? This story is great it has action, and mystery, it keeps you guessing with twists and turns, it will keep you on the edge of your seat flipping pages into the wee hours. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who liked a good paranormal read and a good erotica. The best of both worlds.
I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review.

Twice Lost Could Jenna Thanatos be a female Harbinger? The first one in thousands of years?

In Jennifer Field's first book in the Harbinger series, this is one of many questions posed to the reader. None of the questions are completely answered, which leaves one waiting for the next book in the series.

The characters are a bit predictable: Jenna, the bad girl with a heart of gold. Tim, her savior. Tye, the over protective "big brother". And Gabe, the mysterious bad boy. Of course, all the men are well over 6feet tall, heavily muscled, and very easy on the eyes. Rather common in Paranormal Fantasy. There is a depth to each character though, and you do genuinely take an interest in each of them.

The book was well written, had engaging dialogue, and believable characters. The plot was well planned out, there were several expected twists, but they were presented in a way that didn't seem trite.

I did quite enjoy this book, and do look forward to the rest of the series, but there is a warning to the reader. There are a number of very graphic sex and violent scenes, and these could well be a trigger issue to many people. Also, I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Twice Lost by Jennifer Field 5 Stars

Well this one was certainly a different and amazing read, firstly have to say I was a little unsure of what was going on initially but soon it all fell into place. This is a really great paranormal read, with some very steamy sexy moments especially at the beginning - but not overly so, this book is also full of drama, action and mystery.

I absolutely love the cover of this book and it portrays exactly how I imagined Jenna to be. Jenna is a sex addict and exhibitionist, but more so she has a secret which even she isn't fully aware of and doesn't fully understand. There's a string of hot men in this book too, how she doesn't work her way through them all I'll never know !

This is the first book in the series and I seriously can't wait to read more, I am amazed that this is Jennifer Field's debut novel. Once I got my bearings with the plot, I was completely hooked and couldn't put this one down. Whilst there is no massive cliffhanger, there are so many unanswered questions and I am now left eagerly awaiting the next book. Brilliant read which I highly recommend to any paranormal lovers.

ARC received for an honest review

Twice Lost is the first book by Jennifer Field of the Harbinger Series. An erotic paranormal romance that although usually are not my genre, I found myself enjoying. It took me a bit to get into it, but I’m glad I finished it and now waiting for the next one.The story has everything you would expect to read, love, lust, hot sex, and plenty of gorgeous men. The main character of the story was Jenna Thanatos, the only known female Harbinger and part of a prophecy. She starts out as a sex crazed exhibitionist but with help becomes a kick ass fighter who wants to help save the people who are there to watch over her. With so many good looking men around her it has you guessing who she should/will end up with. Tim her guardian, Tye, his best friend, or Gabe who just oozes sex appeal and more. Don’t want to say too much about any of them but suffice to say they all are otherworldly. It definitely is worth the read. There are also some secondary characters that could certainly carry their own story. Thank you Jennifer Field!

Twice Lost
Book One of the Harbingers Series
by Jennifer Field

A Sexy Start to a Great New Paranormal Romance Series! A Definite Must Read!

This writer was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I can honestly say, this is my kind of book. This writer loves Paranormal Romances, and this book is an expertly done addition to the genre.

Jenna is not your typical girl. She has a fetish for sex in public places. She also has been having these moments where she transforms into a winged creature. Its something scary that she cannot control.

Tim is a Harbinger of death. He is responsible for training the first ever female harbinger, Jenna. When the savior becomes the prisoner, will anyone be able to save Tim?

This story has a very strong plot. It will not end the way that you expect it to. The romance story line is not predictable, which is a wonderful change of pace compared to most reads. This is a must read and I cannot wait for the next installment.

I received a copy of Twice Lost via Net Galley.

When I read the blurb for this story I was all over it.  However I just had trouble connecting with the story and especially Jenna.

I think it was opening scene with her and her boyfriend just kinda turned me off to the book.  I thought it was rather crude a degrading.

The story as a whole is very intriguing and I found myself not able to guess what was going to happen next.  It jumps scenes (storylines) similar to what J.R. Ward does.  This was done fine, again it was more that I didn't connect.  I also found the loves scenes to be meh.

So it was OK could have been better.  I don't think I will be reading book two....Sara

Arc provided by the publisher in Netgalley for an honest review.

Since the moment I started reading this book I felt captivated by its intensity!
The characters were amazing and I couldn't wait to read what happened with the first sight attraction they all felt for Jenna.

The fact that there were a lot of different types of demons or inhuman creatures might have been difficult to grasp but it wasn't! The writing was so clear and descriptive that I never got lost and fell in love with each an everyone of them.

You made ugly creatures into gods of extreme beauty in my mind, couldn't be happier with the story!

Lots of action scenes, as well as steamy hot ones.

The only bad thing was the ending!!! Why would you give such a cliffhanger?!?

I received a coplimentary copy of this book, in exchange of my honest opinion
I freaking loved the descriptions!
Don’t get me wrong. I liked the paranormal elements of the book, I liked the erotica elements of the book, but what blew me away was the descriptions.
It was simply amazing how the author made me “see” what she was talking about. I find this really important in pnr books, as creatures are introduced and descriptions may vary from one author to another.
I give this read 4 stars, because sometimes in the story I got bored and could see what’s coming up.
Other than that, I enjoyed it very much! :D

Holy hotness was 'Twice Lost' an awesome, erotic book. I loved the storyline. It was so unique and full of surprises. The way this book was written pulled me in from the beginning and left me wanting more. This is definitely one book that will stay with me. The way the story played out was full of hot and steamy scenes, action and some pretty cool beings. Jenna is a great kick-ass lead. I love her no b.s. attitude. And of course the GQ men, Tim, Gabe and Tye. All very good kick-ass beings. I loved the descriptive nature that Jennifer Field uses in her writing. I can't wait to read the next book. A must add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended.

I just finished this book and it was great. This was the first book by Jennifer Field I had read, but I guarantee there will be more in my future. I loved Jenna. She was such a badass. I'm not really sure how I felt about them ending up with other people when the story seemed like it was "their" story most of the way through. On the other hand, it was good to see a male hero who would help a female character without being sexually driven. I enjoyed seeing Jenna evolve from a scared young woman to a young woman ready to take on the world. I look forward to seeing what is in store with this series.

This was a different book from what I normally read and I'm glad that I read it. This was the first book in this series and I can't wait until the next book comes out. I loved the characters and the story line and the way that everything played out. Jenna was a little on the wild side and she never knew about her heritage until one day things started to change before her eyes. Tim was the sweetest ever and I loved the two of them together. The rest of the characters were a great addition to the story and I can't wait to read more.

The best part about Twice Lost is that it doesn't read like a typical paranormal romance. The world created for Ms. Field's characters is fascinating and grounded in a modern society. The lead character is intriguing and better developed (no pun intended) than the supporting cast. The main bad guy is surprisingly lacking in some common sense areas and has moments of sheer stupidity that he refuses to recognize - a bit unrealistic actually.
If it weren't for the explicit sex, this might just be a good fantasy novel. Looking forward to the sequel.

I am not a usually a big fan of paranormal stories, but I enjoyed this one. The story line was very confusing in the beginning but once it was made clear it was intriguing. There were some good erotic scenes without them being the main theme in the story.

I liked the twists and turns of this story. The characters and creatures were very different from what I have read in other stories. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one in the series

Jenna thought she was and ordinary girl with a few kinks but one night changes her whole life. Jenna learns about a whole other world she didn’t even know existed and who she really is and Timoteus is there to help her along the way. This is a steamy paranormal with lots of action and drama. A really liked it. It held my interest from beginning to end. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The concept of this book is excellent. My only complaint Is the POV is a little confusing sometimes. In some instances it will be 1st person, along the way it may change over to another person without warning.
Other that that the book has a great plot and it reads very quickly.
