Summer is here, and Scott and his friends are ready for a break. All they want to do is go see a movie together - but nothing's ever easy in Scott Pilgrim's world! FREE SCOTT PILGRIM is a side-story. It takes place after Volume 3 and before Volume 4.
Bryan Lee O'Malley is a Canadian cartoonist. His first original graphic novel was Lost at Sea (2003), and he is best-known for the six-volume Scott Pilgrim series (2004 to 2010). All of his Scott Pilgrim graphic novels were published by Portland, Oregon-based Oni Press. In July 2014 his graphic novel Seconds was released by Ballantine Books. He is also a songwriter and musician (as Kupek and formerly in several short-lived Toronto bands). -Wikipedia
Le hubiera dado cuatro estrellas, pues, Bryan sigue con el mismo humor que lo caracteriza, pero fue demasiado corto, y me es imposible hacerlo bajo esas circunstancias.
"Sometimes girls can be very, very mean. They might pull your hair or kick you in the shins really hard. It can feel like they're sticking razor blades in your heart, or maybe they actually are sticking razor blades in your heart. Just remember: In real life, you should never hit a girl, unless it's a serious emergency."
A simple, cartoon-style illustrated SCOTT PILGRIM side story. (I loved the movie, it’s so quirky and different with great diverse, unique characters.) I didn’t realize that this wasn’t the original Scott Pilgrim comic until after I already downloaded it and read the book blurb, but I decided to give it a go anyways.
This reminded me of those short, little 15 minutes mini-series you see on Cartoon Network between shows. They are better than commercials and sometimes, cute and creative.
The artwork on the inside matches the outside cover. I’m interested to see how the artwork is in the original Scott Pilgrim story; another comic book to hunt for!
I downloaded this while it was available for free on Amazon. I was not obligated to write a review, my honest opinion is freely given.
7.3/10 Multiple copies of a superstar actress get out of the posters and attack Scott, Ramona and Wallace. Actually they only attack Scott, the others are just hanging out there. The guys are on a hurry cause they were on they to the movies. The movie starts in 8 minutes so Wallace and Ramona tells Scott to hurry up but Scott doesn't want to hit a girl. With the help of Ramona ( she doesnt have a problem beating weird copy girls ) things ends up quickly
School has been extremely boring lately and since we're allowed on our phones I searched for some free comics to read easily on Kindle, and this came up! Such a nice short story, really enjoyable. I'm happy I picked it up and now I really need to go read the actual series
Can't believe, for all I love the movie, that this is my first time reading anything Scott Pilgrim. Makes me want to get my hands on more, and that should say something.
Haha! That was so funny, haven't read the actual comic books but i really like this short story. Scott is so sweet hahaha love how he didn't want to hit them even though they were all trying to destroy him. Now i really want to read them all!
I ended up downloading this to test something for work then after a few days, decided to just finish it and ended up being surprised. I don't know when last I read a comic book and maybe because I know the story, I enjoyed this one more than I might have.
Such a crazy and cute story. I really loved it. It's mind refreshing and a great concept too. I wouldn't mind having a life partner like Scott Pilgrim. Definitely worth a try. 😍😍
I haven't read anything of Scott Pilgrim and neither seen the movie, so I didn't know what to expect from this comic. It was different at the beginning and the plot didn't made sense to me, but I really liked it. I think I would enjoy the books and maybe the movie as well. I've heard people say great things about it and now I'm curious.
I love anything Scott Pilgrim. This is a short comic given out on free comic book day (it can still be viewed on Comixoloy.). It was cute short and adorable.
Scott Pilgrim is living a pretty chill life. He's 23, plays bass in a rock band and has broken a lot of hearts. After many failed relationships, he thinks he's finally found his one true love in the mysterious and alluring Ramona Flowers, a punk-rock rollerblading delivery girl. Ramona is unlike any other girl Scott's ever dated, and she comes with a lot of baggage. In order to win her over, Scott has to battle her seven evil ex-boyfriends and possibly overcome her flaws as well as his own in the process.
Right from the get-go, it's not hard to see that Scott is kind of a horrible person. And that's the main theme throughout the whole series. Almost every single character is a selfish dick that hurts everyone around them for their own benefit. Scott manipulates a girl that's too young and naive for him just to trick his peers into thinking he's still hip and cool. He disrespects his friends and often comes off as ungrateful and arrogant; refusing to take responsibility for his own negative actions and attitude. He has no problem tossing girls aside one after the other and moving on to what he wants without regard for anyone else.
Scott's a bit of a douchebag to say the least, but he subtly starts to change for the better when he falls in love with Ramona. We come to learn that he has repressed feelings and memories to hide the fact that he actually feels really guilty for all of the bad things he's done in the past, and he slowly learns to cope and grow as a person, making things up to the people's he's wronged to try and prove to himself and everyone around him that people can change for the better. Most of all, he wants to show Ramona that he's not a scummy jerk like all of her other evil ex-boyfriends.
Ramona on the other hand, isn't exactly the peak of purity herself. She's no broken-hearted maiden that needs saving, she's done quite bit of manipulation, harm and psychological damage herself. Most of her ex-boyfriends aren't even evil by any means, she took advantage of many of them, cheated on them, dumped them then falsely labeled them as bad people in order to avoid taking responsibility for her own selfish actions and deflecting any kind of guilt she should feel for them. Scott and Ramona have a lot of things in common, and nearly all of them are bad.
This isn't a story about a brilliant romance between two star-crossed lovers, it's a story about two horribly flawed people learning to change for the better by overcoming their flaws together, battling the demons of their past and learning to forgive and love themselves for all the cruel and selfish mistakes they've made. The story is a lot deeper than the surface level details would lead people to believe. Beneath the many layers of teen angst, punk rock culture, video game parodies and explosive comic book imagery is a touching tale with quite a bit of psychological depth. The more comedic elements of the story don't hinder the plot at all, they actually make it a really fun and relatable way to tackle complex issues without being depressing or melodramatic.
The main point of the story is that everyone has had a moment or a phase in their life where they were kind of a huge dick (maybe without even realizing it) and ended up hurting people they didn't mean to hurt. Everyone has made big mistakes and done bad things that got people hurt, but that doesn't necessarily make them bad people. As long you're willing to learn from your past and become a more compassionate person, it's never too late to change for the better.
Scott Pilgrim Free Comic Book Day Story - Bryan Lee O'Malley, Dean Trippe (Illustrator), Jason Horn (Illustrator) (2006) (Scott Pilgrim #3.1)
Genres: Comic Book/ Fantasy/ Young Adult Pages: 17 Rating: 6/10
Theme: Humour
Summary: Scott, Ramona and Wallace are going to watch a film that Wallace managed to get free tickets for. However, the group is held up by Scott, who wants to buy a drink with the best nutritional value (or stat points in Scott Pilgrim's world). After fifteen minutes of trying to decide what drink to get, Scott realizes he doesn't have his wallet and therefore cannot buy a drink.
Hurrying on their way to the candy store to get some free sweets, the group walk past a series of creepy posters of teenage actress Winifred Hailey, when suddenly, several Winifred Hailey clones emerge from said posters and surround the trio and attack Scott, who's apprehensive to fight the clones because he is afraid of hitting girls. Whilst Scott is getting his ass handed to him by the Wininfred Hailey clones, Wallace and Ramona discuss who is behind the attack, Wallace suggests that it might be the work of a ninja, and asks if it might be one of Ramona's Evil Exes, but Ramona neither confirms nor denies this.
Meanwhile, Scott tries to run away from the clones and falls, accidentally kicking one of the clones and destroying it, leaving behind a small piece of paper. Scott tries to pick up the piece of paper but gets surrounded by the Winifred clones, who he still refuses to hit. Ramona, fed up by Scott's cowardliness, comes to Scott's aid, grabbing his arms to control Scott and attack the Winifred clones, defeating them quite easily.
Once they are all defeated, the clones leave small pieces of paper behind. Scott picks one up and discovers that each piece of paper is a free drinks coupon that expires today. He turns to Ramona and sheepishly says that the fighting made him thirsty; forty-five minutes later, Scott is once again trying to decide what drinks he should get, seemingly unaware or uncaring that they're all missing the movie. The book then ends with a "Scott Pilgrim says" section, with Scott Pilgrim addressing the audience telling people not to hit girls unless it's a serious emergency.
Verdict: Free tickets to a gay cowboy movie, Wallace planning to get some free candy from a friend who works at a store, defeating the Winifred Hailey clones yields coupons for free beverages. This thing is free, my friend. And it is not as half-baked as one might expect initially. I enjoyed it more than Volume 3 or 4, to be honest. I guess when there are fewer pages, the author’s chances of botching up the story decreases too. Jokes aside this is a nice little comic.
My husband and I rewatched Scott Pilgrim vs. the world last weekend for the first time in a long time and were sad that the nostalgic factor just wasn’t there for us. Instead there was a lot of, oh this feels worse now then it did ten years ago moments (Wallace was immune to this because Wallace always has, and always will be too good for the universe he inhabits). But that was not the case with reading this comic! It’s a fun one shot about Scott, Wallace and Ramona doing normal friend stuff. It’s a quite moment that wouldn’t have added to the plot of the main novels but works perfectly as a stand alone story that fills the nostalgic urge one has for the Scott Pilgrim universe.
A FCBD comic showing a bonus story previously (from what I read here) found in the 3rd volume of the full color book. Having collected the original Scott Pilgrim books and getting all of the color volumes later on as a giant omnibus on Kindle I did not see this little tale so I got to experience it for the fist time here and like many of the off the wall antics in the Scott Pilgrim universe I found myself enjoying it but considering I have read the books I would probably enjoy it far more than say someone who has not seen the live action movie nor read the books so if you are a fan and did not get volume 3 by itself like me go for this little side adventure showing a bit of action and whole lot of groaning as Scott does Scott stuff. :)
Well, this short story didn’t add much to the comic itself. The art is noticably smoother as this is a more recent addition. The story is simple and doesn’t really lead anywhere, it is just Scott, Ramona and Wallace goofing around.
Wallace got them movie tickets to Brokeback Mountain and before heading to the theaters they do a quick drink run in the shop. Well, they would if Scott could actually decide what to buy. On the streets Scott gets attacked by a girl - but none of them actually knows why. It has a fun scene (which I guess is where the movie borrowed it from) where Scott does not want to punch a girl so Ramona helps him fight. The story closes without much explanation.
I chose this rating because it wasn't as great as I thought. I was ok not the worst comic I have read. I would not recommend this comic only if someone love Scott pilgrim.
Scott pilgrim walks and there is a lot of posters. The person in the poster came to live and started to beat up Scott Pilgrim. Scott pilgrim would not then and they turned into coupons and they expired that day.
After seeing and enjoying the movie and reading the first book in the series, finding this free short was simply a delight. I love seeing Scott Pilgrim and his friends in color, vibrant and in your face. This story, like the rest of Scott Pilgrim's adventures, it's a bit zany and "out there", but it’s perfect for this audience.
Highly recommended to anyone who’s curious about the Scott Pilgrim series.
Cute little story with Scott and the gang and some nice foreshadowing of what kind of person ex number 4 might be. Really liked the stats on the soft drinks and enemies dropping free coupons when downed, but it really isn't particularily deep and sadly not as funny as I remember, nor is the action that impressive. I must say that I was blown away by the color edition, definitely the ultimate way of experiencing this little side story.
This particular comic was included with Volume 1 of the collected comic in color, but I borrowed that and was able to get this free to keep so score! I love the art and story. It's just Ramona and Wallace being exasperated with Scott trying to pick a drink then having to fight teenaged girls that come to life to attack him from movie posters. Perfectly normal for the video game like world of Scott Pilgrim.
It was not as interesting as I thought it would be. It makes my mind complicated. There are so many unsolved mysteries there. We don't know how those girls from the posters came out so suddenly. Or we don't know why he keeps looking at every detail of the drink. And we don't know how he got free coupons by punching a teenage girl who's popped up so suddenly. It's so complicated.

A not very little (18 pages) snippet at the back of book 3. There were pieces of this I liked - the Franklin Richards tee shirt - the power ups on the soda. But it also had too much Scott Pilgrim who was annoying throughout this one. And again the fight was pointless but maybe hinted at something coming or not.
