She’s running on kindness. He’s running from zombies. Together, they might just survive the apocalypse.
Myra survived the end of the world by being too nice to die. She shares everything with everyone and trusts other survivors way more than she should. When her safe haven begins to fall apart, the people she’s helped repay her kindness by taking advantage of her. She still smiles through it, kind of, until Cade shows up. Covered in black goo, running for his life, he collides with her quiet, crumbling existence.
Cade doesn’t want to be anyone’s problem. He’s just trying to get back to his brother. He didn’t mean to stumble into a half-starved commune full of suspicious survivors, and they aren’t about to let another one into their midst. When Myra sneaks him in, it’s not the worst decision she’s ever made, but it’s close. Now the two of them are on the run, dodging bloats (the disgusting, goo-filled, ex-human variety of zombie), sketchy survivors, and their emotional baggage.
She’s never had a home. He just wants his back. Falling for each other wasn’t the plan, but neither was the apocalypse.
Disgusting zombies, ill-timed romance, and a hilarious and happy ever after.
Liz Hambleton writes imperfectly beautiful romance. Her heroines are always strong-willed, and her heroes, resilient. Her characters live in alternate worlds and futuristic times, and putting yourself in their stories lets you escape reality while still feeling the power of true love.
If she’s not reading, she’s writing, and her deep adoration for the written word shines in everything she creates. Liz is married with two children, two large dogs, and a fish that refuses to die.
This book had me laughing, blushing, and clutching the book like it was the last burrito on earth. Myra is literally the sweetest human alive, which makes zero sense in a zombie world, but I love her for it. She’s chaotic, hilarious, and the best kind of disaster friend we all wish we had. Then there’s Cade. Practical, protective, and sharp enough to keep up with Myra’s sarcasm, he balances her big heart perfectly. Their banter is everything and the slow burn romance? Torture in the BEST way. Add in nonstop action, heart-pounding suspense, and just enough spice to make you squeal, and this book is basically the definition of unputdownable.
Overall I enjoyed this book, but it’s wasn’t as good as the first and felt a little rushed in parts. Myra sometimes got on my nerves and Cade was average nothing special I thought, chemistry with them at first was good but it just ended up feeling rushed after 2 days of them knowing each other.
Myra Might Survive, book two in the Serial Survivors Collection Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫 3.5 stars, rounded up.
There are two books (so far,) in this series. Each one is a standalone. After reading this second book, the characters don’t cross over but the apocalypse that everyone is trying to survive does.
I am a die hard fan of Liz Hambleton and her heavy hitting dystopian novels but…this series hits a little different. If it weren’t for the on page romance, I would say these books are more young adult/new adult. This isn't meant to be insulting, the storyline is fun, light hearted even while surviving the end of days with bloats wandering the earth trying to turn you. There were some pretty hilarious scenes in the book, especially the “Jeep scene.” 🤣
The stars of this story are the FMC, Myra and the MMC, Cade. I’m not a fan of the instalove trope, which is exactly what this is but I guess I can understand with it being the end of world. Myra is annoyingly optimistic and upbeat. ALL. THE. TIME. Cade is flighty with his decision making as he tends to act first and think later. They make a good team though and balance each other out. There is an interesting twist in regard to the infected and I’ll be continuing the series. I need to know what happens with the knowledge that has been unveiled.
Thank you to Liz Hambleton for the digital advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Book was released today, August 31st and is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Myra Might Survive is an absolute page-turner! From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the raw tension, gripping atmosphere, and the emotional pull of Myra’s journey. The writing is sharp and immersive, with vivid descriptions that make you feel every heartbeat of danger, every whisper of doubt, and every spark of determination.
What I loved most is how Myra isn’t just surviving — she’s fighting, learning, and transforming in ways that feel authentic and empowering. The pacing is perfect: equal parts action, suspense, and character depth. Every chapter left me desperate to know what would happen next.
This book blends heart-stopping survival with deep emotional resonance, making it so much more than just a thriller. It’s about courage, resilience, and finding strength when the world tries to break you. I couldn’t put it down — and honestly, I didn’t want to.
If you’re looking for a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat while also tugging at your heart, Myra Might Survive is it. Highly recommend!
In the second book of the series we meet Myra. She is a sweet and to me a bit naive lady. She has a heart of gold. We see her at times showing her strength as she navigates the new world that everyone is thrust into. I love Cade and his personality. He is such a protective of the ones he cares about. The story has a lot of drama, action, and some suspense. It easily pulls you in and keeps you glued to it as you have to know what happens. Myra has such an upbeat, positive attitude that she always sees the good in things. I loved how the story ends. It is a fantastic story that is an excellent read.
I loved Myra and Cade so much! Myra was so real; such a genuine and relatable character. She made me smile more than once. It’s no wonder why Cade fell for her. Cade was just so sweet and patient with Myra and all her quirkiness. This is the second installment of the series, and I enjoyed getting glimpses of Caitlyn and Riley from the first book. I can’t wait to see what couple comes next and how the survivors continue to thrive in the apocalypse.
Eeek I have been waiting for this one foreverrrrr. I absolutely loved Caitlyn, but this one is now my favorite of the series!
Myra is so sweet and innocent and has the biggest heart ever. I love how giving she is ans how much she cares about everyone, even those who honestly don't deserve it!
Cade, aka burrito man, is uhm drool worthy. I'm so glad that he met Myra, even under the crappy circumstances because those two were meant for each other! He is the perfect Yin to her Yang! And I was here for allllll of it.
The obstacles and disasters these two have to encounter along their journey is no easy feat by any means, but somehow they manage to push each other! I love these two soo soo much!
The ending was so precious and I literally am on the edge of my seat awaiting the next book!
Thank you to the author for the ARC. I don’t think this series is for me. There are definitely fun parts to the story but unfortunately I don’t love the whole package. The fmc came across very high school and naive to me in her thinking and decisions. The book would be better without the spice. I like spice but this just felt gratuitous and out of place for me. I like the idea and concept but not enough to continue the series.
CW: gore, some violence, abuse, referenced child neglect/abuse, spice, some others
Thank you to the author for the ARC! “Myra Might Survive” is available now!
Content? Solid. FMC? Made me want to rip my hair out.
Myra’s nice. Too nice. And Cade is too impulsive. Together, they’re going to have to survive bloats, evil rednecks, and an entire river to make it home alive.
Alright, now listen. The storyline here was enjoyable. Truly. I just entirely hated the FMC and it made it kind of hard to root for her survival.
I’ll start with the plot. It’s fast, it’s entertaining, and it’s got a cute insta-love angle that brings some nice refreshment to the whole ‘end of the world’ situation. The backdrop is appropriately dismal (in a good way), and we get to see more of what the situation looks like from a rural POV (compared to the more urban locals seen in book 1, “Caitlyn Can’t Die”). Based on content and other characters alone, I would’ve given this book a 3.5.
Our MMC is all green flags regarding his treatment of the FMC. He’s not quite a golden retriever, but he’s close. I’d call him a labrador boyfriend. Delightful and enjoyable.
And then there’s Myra. Hear me out: she is genuinely a good person. Really. She’s sweet, thoughtful, and kind. And those are wonderful traits to have. It brings in an entirely different aspect compared to the more traditional post-apocalyptic characters. Caitlyn had no real desire to survive; Myra’s just too nice to thrive. Those are not personalities we usually see in these books.
This leads me to the problem. Myra is kind to the detriment of her own survival. She’s a doormat. And, yes, it’s fitting for her character history, but the thing is that I simply cannot deal with her. She’s not just taking care of her close friends and loved ones; she’s bending over backwards for people she knows are horrible, horrible humans. She’s borderline spineless at times, and the end of the world is not the place for that. I’m guessing most readers aren’t going to find this to be as strongly deterring as I do, which is great, but I absolutely could not stand this character.
Aside from Myra, the book was fun. It’s a quick and easy read, the romance is cute, and the monsters are appropriately concerning without crossing the bridge into downright terrifying. If you like post-apocalyptic stories and want one that moves quickly, this might be the one for you.
4.5 stars! What a fun and interesting series! TL/DR for the series, there was an apocalypse of sorts which occurred on Halloween night. The origins are unclear, but people became zombie-like, without the whole eating of brains thing, but they are mindless and bloated and bleed black blood, and a touch from them infects another living person. As of book two, we really don’t know much more than this, other than they can’t swim (we did learn this in book 1 but it’s more directly related to things here). So this series takes a somewhat comedic but still serious approach to a post apocalyptic world like this, and actually makes it feel relatable, feasible even.
Here we have Myra, who pre-apocalypse was a teacher, and on the fated Halloween, she found herself at a party of upper teens/early twenties at a local dam, which ultimately provides them a safe place to hide from the zombies with a decent amount of supplies. Myra is most definitely the oldest person in this group (early 30s), but by no means is she the leader or even really a person of any authority - a chronic people pleaser, Myra would literally give anyone the shirt off her back regardless of her own needs, and she is definitely taken advantage of for that. A hierarchy based on fear and strong arming was established and for the most part things are going ok. But outsiders are not welcome, ever, so when Cade washes up to the dam, he is attacked and attempts to flee, which Myra witnesses. Myra doesn’t like the direction things have gone, and wants to help the stranger, so she sneaks into the woods, finds him, and brings him back into their stronghold sanctuary. She helps him with his wounds, and hides him in her makeshift classroom space, and tries to ignore the attraction she feels for him.
Cade had been living with his brother in their houses in the woods, foraging and isolating, and for the most part surviving, but things were getting harder, and when he gets washed away and to the dam, he’s not exactly sure what he’s getting caught isn’t he middle of, but he knows that he is attracted to Myra, wants to get back to his brother, and whatever is happening at the dam is not good. The lord of the flies type situation only seems to escalate as Myra and Cade try to figure out their next steps, and maybe escape the dam in one piece while helping those who make not realize what’s happening around them.
While this is most definitely a lighter take on an apocalypse situation, it absolutely addresses some darker, more serious, sinister sides of the same. The way even a small community becomes radicalized by a few power hungry and charismatic individuals who also use fear and manipulation tactics to control and suppress. Myra’s need to help everyone, even to her own detriment absolutely comes into play, while Cade’s survival abilities help them concoct a plan to leave (escape?) the dam, but there are other things happening that complicate their plans and things most definitely don’t go exactly as they hope.
While Myra and Cade try to find their way back to Cade’s brother and hopeful safety, they are confronted with the good, the bad, and the ugly of this post apocalyptic world they now inhabit. They also seize the moment and find solace, comfort, and release in each other - the spice in this book is so good, and there’s a level of realness that isn’t always present in books that just makes it all the better - no spoilers.
I really enjoyed this story, with its twists and interesting characters. The balance of light and dark, good and bad, black, white and grey, it all comes together for a story that is intriguing without being completely terrifying, and yet, realistic enough to make you think a little more about the world we live in and what would actually happen in a situation like this.
"I'm not going to say no to you. Now about this...Something about you feels right."
Myra Might Survive is the second novel in the post apocalyptic romance series, Serial Survivors Collection. Each novel is set in the same world but follows different characters. Written in dual first person POV the story follows our titular character, Myra, who finds her safe haven falling apart as the people who once saved her take advantage of her kindness. Yet she finds an opportunity to escape when she meets Cade, a man covered in black goo and in need of help. Finding a new refuge won't be that easy, though, with half starved survivors dogging their footsteps, bloated zombies, and their own emotional baggage...but maybe in the end they'll find a home worth fighting for.
This book has a lot of promise with a gritty world that forces its characters to confront their inner demons. I liked watching Myra explore her past and how that has held her back. I liked seeing her find someone who could shed light on it for her and support her in her journey to become stronger.
At the same time I struggled with engaging in this book. I felt like I didn't understand how things got to where they were for Myra and I didn't feel invested in the romance. I thought in terms of survival Cade and Myra kept the story moving with the various hiding and discovery. The pace showed good action with twists and turns and I especially liked the lore they unveiled as Cade and Myra explored and found new communities.
This book does contain spice. I would say two spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers as there are two spice scenes across this book with the first scenes occurring around the 76% mark. The spice is explicit and detailed with a focus on making sure Myra enjoyed herself.
Overall, I love the vibe of this series with the zombie apocalypse! I want to unpack the lore more around the different kinds of zombies and the safe havens. I just would like a bit more romance.
Thank you to the author for this advanced reader copy!
4.75 ⭐️ I gave this book 4.75 stars and honestly, it deserves every bit of that rating. Myra survived the end of the world by being too nice to die. She shares everything with everyone and trusts other survivors way more than she should. When her safe haven begins to fall apart, the people she’s helped repay her kindness by taking advantage of her. She still smiles through it—kind of—until Cade shows up. What unfolds is a story full of disgusting zombies, ill-timed romance, and a hilarious but hard-earned happily ever after. This is the second book in the series, and somehow it’s significantly better than the first in my opinion. The characters are witty, relatable, and often laugh-out-loud funny. The human behavior in emergency situations feels like its own character—unpredictable, messy, and terrifying. The bloats (zombies) are described with just enough detail to let your imagination run wild, and mine made them horrifying. I even spoke to the author about how she envisions them, which made me appreciate the worldbuilding even more. I’m endlessly curious about the virus outbreak at the heart of this series, and I hope each installment continues to peel back the mystery. This was an absolute thrill to read, and I can’t wait for more. #myramightsurvive #bookreview #bookrecommendation #horrorbooks #postapocalypticbooks #zombiebooks #romancebooks #yaromance #queerbooks #bookseries #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #bookishlove #bookcommunity #readersofinstagram #bookaddict #bookworm #tbrstack #bookaesthetic #readinglist #bookobsessed #bookdiscussion #bookblogger #readmorebooks #booktok
Myra Might Survive is exactly as advertised...a slightly chaotic, strangely heartwarming adventure through the zombie apocalypse with the sweetest disaster of a protagonist you’ve ever met. And somehow… she does survive! Practically on relentless optimism alone.
Myra is one of those characters you immediately want to protect even though she’s technically the one doing the surviving. She’s funny, full of sunshine, and pretty ill-suited for a zombie outbreak. But that’s what makes her so endearing. She brings glitter to the grim. Her positivity and kindness doesn’t always make sense for the world she's in but it never feels fake. She’s just that girl.
Cade, the MMC, is her counterbalance. I am not normally a fan of an instalove trope, but in this case, it actually works well. The characters are experiencing an apocalyptic event, so emotions are heightened. Instalove is feasible. And to be fair, their dynamic works. They're a great duo and neither character felt flat or forced.
What I really love about Liz Hambleton’s writing is how her characters always feel like real people. People I’d want to hang out with (or at least group up with if the world collapses). This book has a very different tone than Caitlyn Can’t Die (which I slightly preferred of the two in the series so far), but I really appreciated the shift. Each book matches the main character’s energy, yet both still feel like they exist in the same world. It's a cohesive story/world, though they are very much standalone stories
Also, there’s a twist in there... no spoilers! It was interesting and one of the many reasons I'm looking forward to more books in this series. The ending was pretty sweet and felt exactly right.
Thanks to Ms. Liz Hambleton for the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this story!
"A layer of black slime covers my jeans, leaving a trail behind with every step. I'm a human snail." -Cade If I HAVE to survive the apocalypse, I will need to find my Caitlyn and Myra. Otherwise, what's the point. Myra's kindness is the reason behind her making it this long into the apocalypse. It's brilliant really. You can't off someone who's always looking out for you or sharing their food and clothes with you, especially when there's a limited supply of everything. Learning her background made everything she did click into place. Surviving was a way of life.
Myra starts out her apocalyptic adventure trapped in a dam with mostly teenagers, some young adults, no one over the age of 23. Think Lost Boys and Lord of the Flies. I don't want to give too much away.
Cade comes along, human snail and all, and Myra rescues him. He in turn rescues her. Making their way out of the dam and to Cade's house and his brother had me cringing, gagging and laughing out loud.
"No, I mean, why do I feel guilty. We just broke his knee and injected him with medicine. Twice. We're like the mob." "I don't think there's a post-apocalyptic mob."
'The way he kisses me makes me wonder if this is what home is supposed to feel like. Warmth spreads through my limbs and into my heart, comfort wrapping around me like a memory I didn't know I missed.'
"I shot him in the penis," she gasps. "Right in the dick," she says.
"We have guns," I remind her. "And you're a grade A dick shot."
Liz creates the greatest, most realistic characters I wish I could be friends with. I'm hoping we get to know Dillon's story and the learn more about the "apocalyptic Batman and Robin".
Myra is the epitome of being too nice for your own good. She is kindness and generosity in human form...and that winds up getting her trapped with a group of young adults under the age of 20. Which, honestly, goes as would be expected by that group. Thankfully, her overwhelming kindness leads her to rescue an actual adult man (yay, other adults! especially hot ones).
The vibe of this book, off the bat, is so different than Caitlyn Can't Die. It's lighter, and honestly, that's all due to Myra, which I really appreciated since I struggled with Caitlyn a bit in the first book. I kept thinking that longer than a month had passed before our story took place, but I could see everything going to hell that fast. Especially in the ways that it did in the book. Once again, the boats absolutely fascinate me, and I always want more time with them. That feels weird to admit, haha. We saw such an interesting side once again to the infected, and it made me curious.
I really enjoyed Myra and Cade, and especially them together in how they temper each other. Cade was a great mmc and really strove to protect Myra even if it was from her own generosity. I am hoping our next story is Dillon centric. All the side characters we met, though, have been so well fleshed out. We met an incredible little community that I hope we get to meet again in future books. The villains are always so well done in their mslice. A side note, I love that in these books, there is an emphasis on getting scrubbed before you get busy. Because man, there are germs in the apocalypse.
It's a fun read. If you are curious about a romance after the world has ended, this is a great option. I will genuinely miss hanging out with these characters.
Myra might survive with Cade to protect her from herself
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
This is a good series if you like a post apocalyptic setting with zombies (really more like zombie adjacent, not true stereotypical zombies) but you don’t want it to be too serious. There’s still the messed up world, you see humans at their worst doing their worst, but it’s done with a backdrop of adventure and silly internal monologues. The first book has more dark gallows humor, this one is a little more silly and frivolous. But both face life or death situations from both the bloats and their fellow healthy humans.
FMC: Myra is way too nice, 100% Pollyanna prototype which is a bizarre personality to survive in a post apocalyptic timeline. She’s likable, protective of those that are vulnerable, but at the detriment to her own survival.
MMC: Cade starts out as a damsel in distress and is very much a kind, green flag MMC. He’s not a pushover though and protects the FMC.
Seeing more of the bloats who are only half bloated was fun, and I look forward to seeing how this genetic mutation unfolds in the future. Some kind of vaccine pulled from their ability to survive it? Will they be cured at some point?
My guess is Dillon (MMC’s brother) will be the main character in b3 and I’m pretty excited for that one. I actually liked him more than Cade. I think he’ll make for an interesting MMC. He’s either very smart, neurodivergent, or both.
I was hoping they’d take Myra’s co-conspirator with them when they left the dam but I’m hopeful he may pop up as a side character in a future book. He was a likable side character.
If you’re into zombie apocalypse books but crave a romance that hits you right in the feels, THIS is the book.
If you’re looking for a zombie apocalypse story that goes beyond the fight for survival and dives deep into what it means to love when the world is falling apart, this is the book for you.
A perfect mix of romance, tension, and action—I can’t recommend it enough. What makes this book truly special is how it balances darkness and hope. Even amid bloat blood, fear, and desperation, there is light in the form of love, loyalty, and sacrifice.
Every chapter had me on edge—either from the danger outside or the emotional tension between the characters. I was up way too late telling myself “just one more chapter,” and suddenly it was 3 a.m.
The setting is raw and unforgiving, painted with vivid detail that makes you feel the danger lurking around every corner. Yet, it’s the characters who shine the brightest. Their journey is not just about survival against the infected, but about rediscovering love and intimacy in a world that’s lost almost everything.
The romance was so perfectly done. It didn’t feel rushed or forced—it grew naturally out of trust, survival, and needing each other in the darkest moments. The mild spice was just enough to make me swoon without taking away from the actual story. The sex scenes are handled tastefully—steamy enough to make you blush, yet never overshadowing the story.
Book 2 of the Serial Survivors is just as good as the first! Although, Myra is well and truly too nice for the end of the world. But that doesn't make me love her any less! The jokes and banter will keep you smiling, the suspense will keep you reading and the romance will keep you blushing! Just like the first, a different take on post apocalyptic zombie scenario but its kept fun and light with loveable, occasionally infuriating, upbeat characters.
While I might agree more with Caitlyn from book one, Myra feels like the best friend we all want. She's kind, funny, full of references we love and savior of everyone especially the "incognito burrito". Even though sometimes for all her talk of wanting someone with a "fully developed frontal lobe" I wonder about the state of her own frontal lobe! Kidding - we know she's smart but just too damn nice!
Cade is just as loveable as Myra and his practicality balances out Myra's too big heart quite nicely. He puts up with her sarcasm and comes back with some wit of his own. He is the fierce protector she needs not to just survive but actually live.
Liz Hambleton has done it yet again. There wasn't a moment I didn't love, even the parts that made me yell out loud at Myra - but isn't that how you know its a great story!
Myra Might Survive is such a clever, fun, and heartfelt twist on the end-of-the-world trope. Myra isn’t your typical zombie apocalypse heroine—she’s kind, compassionate, and hilariously relatable, which makes rooting for her all the more addictive. The story balances high-stakes survival with humor and warmth, creating a refreshing take on a genre that can often feel too heavy.
The writing is sharp, witty, and immersive, pulling me straight into the chaos and making me laugh while still keeping me on edge. The side characters add even more charm (and chaos), and the dynamic between them is pure entertainment.
The romance thread is light but present, with just enough spice (🌶🌶) to give a little extra tension without overshadowing the story. It’s playful, sweet, and perfectly matched to the quirky tone of the book.
Overall, this was a standout read—fast-paced, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt. If you love zombie apocalyptic tales with a humorous, cozy twist and a heroine you’ll want to be best friends with, this is an absolute must-read!
And also check out the first book Caitlin Can't Die, they can be read separately but i highly recommend reading both!!
Myra Might Survive is the second book in the Serial Survivors Series. It is a Post Apocalyptic Rom Com with a little bit of spice, and some violence mostly toward bloats.
After reading Caitlyn Can't Die, the first book in this series, I could not wait to read Myra's book. I loved Caitlyn's story, I just liked Myra's. I would definitely call Myra Might Survive a comfortable and kinda cutesy dystopian story. I wanted fewer scenes with more detail, instead of the many scenarios the storyline flew threw. The humor was there, and definitely my favorite part of this story. Myra and her inner dialogue was great for a giggle or three thought the storyline. The romance part was too easy, too sweet for dystopian times. Myra's character was a little too overly sweet for me, I kept waiting for her to bust out a surprising layer to her personality, but she stayed consistently the same. Cade was more likeable, but I felt he too was underdeveloped.
Overall this was an entertaining read. I felt the plot was original and the one liners were humorous. The characters suffered from one-note personalities and the storyline was overly sweet for this genre.
TL;DR If you loved Caitlyn, you'll love Myra, mainly because Liz can't write a bad book to save her life.
Myra Might Survive is a continuation of the Serial Survivors Collection, but not in the way you'd think. This world Liz Hambleton has created is interesting and nuanced and full of surprises.
Myra couldn't be any more different than Caitlyn, but I love her character just as much as the first heroine in this post-apocalyptic, bloat-filled world. She's sweet and smart and giving -- sometimes to a fault -- but she's good. And funny, even when she doesn't mean to be.
I think I love Cade because he's a normal dude, trying to survive, trying to keep his brother safe. He's instantly connected to this woman he's never met because he's heartsick over the state of his world (both immediate and widespread) but also because he sees her -- her goodness and kindness and selflessness in a world full of people who've survived and are only out for themselves.
Pick this one up. Just like all the others, you won't regret it.
Honestly, Liz is just an amazing writer. I am a little biased as post apocalyptic tales are something which draw me in massively, however this is in my opinion even better than Caitlin can't die. The different aspects of the same time/event from two completely different types of people experiencing the same world altering event couldn't be more different, yet you could just see how the last chapter would end up without it spiking any of the story (I do not want to put any spoilers here at all, but I love how the stories are so far apart yet come together) I love Myra's story, and it feels like Lincoln would be who some of the world turn into, which is why Cade is such a great character to bring in.
I love how well Liz writes, and I know I am going to have to go back and re read to make sure that I get all the details which Liz has peppered the story with!
If I could give you 1000/5 I would, but Amazon does restrict us at 5, so I will give you this instead :)
I don’t know what it is about this series that gets me so good but I’m in love with pretty much all of the characters. Myra’s the sweetest most genuine person in the apocalypse and Cade is so practical and pessimistic (relatable) and they just balance each other out so well. I loved their banter and their chemistry, and it was so fun seeing how they pushed through the chaos of the end of the world together. It’s really nice seeing completely average people wade through hell idk.
I’m also really impressed with the world building that Liz Hambleton does in her apocalypse world, even from the perspectives of characters who have no idea what’s going on. We get glimpses of society’s “befores” combining with and setting up the “afters” that make you want to learn so much more about the bloats and the halflings and the pocket societies. I’m just SO invested in the whole setting and the science and everything, really. I’m already anxious for the next installment and the new cast we’ll meet there!
This is the 2nd book in this instalment and like the first it’s fresh fun and sprinkled with romance.
We are still in post apocalyptic dystopia of the “bloats”. Myra has no idea how she’s survived but she has and has found herself the elder in a group of other survivors. While safe she still earns for freedom and continues to advocate for a more peaceful way of obtaining it.
Cade has also survived and is now the keeper of himself and his brother as he continues to live and shelter at home. While trying to fish he is swept upstream with a bunch of drowned bloats and then gets shot by one of the guys in Myra’s survival group. Myra goes out to save Cade who she terms burrito man. The rest of the story revolves around Myra trying to keep Cade alive and a secret, Cade wanting to escape to get back to his brother and the 2 embarking on an escape that leads to love.
Definitely a food read, sprinkled with funny banter, some spice and adventure.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is book two in the Serial Survivors collection. Thank you to the author for allowing me to read both books prior to their release. This book follows Myra and Cade as they navigate through the apocalypse.
Let’s address the title. In my honest opinion, no. I don’t think someone as pure as Myra would survive in the apocalypse. She’s too kind, and after reading and watching enough dystopian content, it’s the people you’ve got to worry about, and I don’t think she’d make it. As shown in this book, half of the people they encounter are horrible people. She’s too easily taken advantage of.
HOWEVER, in this book, her motto is to lead with compassion, and oddly, it works for her. I think if she didn’t have Cade supporting her and making sure she was safe, it might not be the case, but she’s a rarity that people are drawn to.
Side note: I do appreciate that they bathe prior to sexy times in this book. It makes it a little more realistic since no one's gonna be getting busy after running around surviving for days.
Another great installment in the Serial Survivors story. Hambleton has written another thoroughly entertaining dystopian zombie (bloat) book in the dystopian world created in Caitlyn Can’t Die.
Never thought I’d be big on apocalyptic romance, but when done right, it’s fantastic. Myra is a really good person, just trying to help out a bunch of crazy ass teens after the apocalypse. But when things go sour, and a strange man shows up, that’s when things really get going.
While I still loved Caitlyn Can’t Die just a bit more (it was such a refreshing take on the dystopian genre), Myra Might Survive certainly holds its own. Lots of humor, romance, action and even some spice, this book is definitely a fun one!
Thank you to the author for the advance reader copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is book 2 an interconnected series. While you don’t need to read book one I highly recommend it to get the full experience. Myra is completely different than Caitlyn. She’s sweet, innocently naive a bit, she wants to see the good in people. I love how she grows and shows strength in this new world. Love how Myra tries to stay up beat and her positive attitude. And she’s so funny. I absolutely love Cade he’s very protective of those he cares about and I love his personality. He’s just a normal guy trying to survive this world and keep his brother alive. This book has suspense but had me giggling at the same time I was hooked! Those two are perfect for each other! The obstacles these two go through together! I 💯 recommend this book and I can’t wait for the next one! Because I’m definitely interested in reading about more characters and I can’t wait
Myra is struggling with the apocalypse and her place in it, when a stranger, Cade, appears outside. She sneaks him in, and neither can deny the chemistry between them.
They must outrun fellow survivors and the undead, while Myra tries to stop being so nice to everyone (at the cost of herself).
Myra Might Survive pulls the reader into the impossible task of survival in a post apocalyptic world (surrounded by teenagers!) It's an examination of the nature of people and how extreme circumstances can bring out their true selves. The reader can fully relate to Myra's struggle with letting others seize power, only to find that they are the people that should never have it.
This book captures your attention and puts you on edge as you live Myra and Cade's struggle to survive! From laughter, to relief, to gripping my Kindle tighter, Myra Might Survive delivers!
Myra Might Survive is the 2nd book in the serial survivors collection. The 1st was Caitlyn Can't Die. I have review posted for Caitlyn's installment as well. These are interconnected standalone stories. After having read both, I think you can read these two in any order, however, there are some references to characters from Caitlyn's book, so you may find it more enjoyable to read that one first.
Much like Caitlyn's story, I LOVED this. There's an apocalyptic event that results in humans becoming these zombie-like creatures called Bloats. Myra is living with a group of young survivors and a series of events leads to her helping another survivor, Cade, in a journey to get back to Cade's brother. We get both of their perspectives throughout the story.
This was such a fun, easy read. There's a lot happening in the group Myra starts with. A lot of it not so great. The development of her situation with Cade and their adventure was fun to read. With plenty of action, danger, tension and romance. Definitely recommend if you like dystopian reads with a zombie apocalypse and some romance with entertaining banter.
Thank you to the author, Liz Hambleton, for the gifted eARC of Myra Might Survive. All thoughts expressed in my review are my own.
Let me first start by saying you do not have to read book 1 in order to read book 2, but book 1 is SO GOOD so do it anyway. That being said, I ADORE Myra. She's upbeat, perky and just sweet as can be even though it's the end of the world. Totally not how I'd be and I love that for that for her. I'm more of a Cade, flighty, over protective and level headish. But we all need a Myra, right!?
This book is instalove, but not in an in your face, they are hooking up right away kind of way. It's a SLOW BURN to get to the good stuff. ;)
There are hilarious moments, (jeep) and there are moments of danger.
It's about survival in all the ways- emotional, and transforming, as well as staying alive.
Thank you to Liz Hambleton for the digital advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
