Skye Faden has had a crappy decade. Seriously. She survived nearly ten years of torture, then escaped and killed the vampires responsible for the deaths of her entire family. She should - by all rights - be free to spend the rest of her days on a warm, sandy beach somewhere.
Unfortunately, those plans are quickly derailed by a bite-happy werewolf. With just a few days until the full moon and her first transformation, Skye has no choice but to accompany her ADHD-prone handler, Miko, to Scotland in search of answers.
Faced with a supremely sexy ancient werewolf (woof!), a hushed prophecy about how her arrival will trigger a war, and a handful of unexpected new supernatural abilities, Skye is in for one hell of a ride. As the shaky truce between the breeds races toward its abrupt and violent end, she must unlock the mystery surrounding her identity and uncover a secret of betrayal that has been kept for over 4,000 years. Piece of cake, right?

This book totally blew me away, and after just finishing it, I realize that I actually have to read it again this weekend, just to really enjoy all the wonderous happenings in this book.
After entering goodreads, I have stumbled on so many good authors, and some amazing books not really well known, but still a diamond either in making, or a gem on It's on.
This book? For me? Perfection. There isnt a thing I would change. And that by itself is absolutely insane... I were actually thinking while reading it, if the author knew everything I love in a good book, and thought... Im gonna make all the good tidsbits into one book. And just blow your freaking mind! (*jumps a bit*). Some books are incredibly written, but it just does not fit your personal taste.. this book? Made for me.
So enough goushing...
Skye.. oh I were in love and rooting from the her first thought, action and otherwise troubled soul.
The loose ends that sometimes makes us wanna rip out our heads...? Not in this book.. but still... the end just left you with wanting, no, needing to read more about the characters.
And girls... are you a fan of reverse harem? This is a treat for you right here.
One kickass, emotional wreck of a heroine, but still levelheaded (sometimes), and NOT stupid (airhead? Nope), but ooooh soooo wonderfully conflicted and tortured.
And the men... oh good lord... there were times I just needed to take a break, swoon a little, than contionue.
The characters develope, have chemistry, storyline is actually thought through and the writing just sucks you in.. this book messed with my sleep routine, and well.. now I have to try my best to get it back.
The only thing left...? How the HECK am I gonna find anything even remotely close as this wonderous book? What am I gonna do with myself... dearest Alisha Ashton, I am really really, and I totally awsomely mean it, REALLY hoping for the second book.
Thank you Alisha Ashton, you just made the book on the top shelf (number one) in 2014. Well deserved. Again, thank you.
I saw the warning signs, but I foolishly ignored them. I thought, look at all those 5 star reviews! Surely, this will make a turn for the better.
I really liked the premise of this one: Badass chick that breaks out of her prison and kills all the vampires that were involved. That's a story I can get behind. In the midst of battling her her final captor, she gets bitten by a werewolf. A top-secret human government group takes her in, gives her medical attention and ships her off to the only werewolf they know in Scotland. All of this sounds promising, but somehow it all went wrong.
1. The main character has been held captive from ages 12-21. That's 9 years of abuse, both physical and sexual. She's spent the last three years training and getting vengeance. So, her waltzing into a bar to kill the last of her captors and deeming a guy at the bar "fuckable" was a little disturbing to me. I'm no therapist, but shouldn't there be a little PTSD? A little hesitation? Granted, she doesn't act on the Miko thing, but only because a battle begins. The sexual situation was out of place and gave me a bad feeling, but I ignored it.
2. The human group. They ship Skye off to Scotland, Miko in tow. They're both welcomed into the castle, no questions asked. Miko runs blood tests on Skye, watches her transform, meets a bunch of werewolves, and there's no hesitation. Shouldn't there be some secrecy? Is no one concerned about humans learning all the secrets of werewolf magic, or whatever? I mean, if it's no big, why couldn't Miko gain admittance before now? Unfortunately, none of this is addressed.
3. All male characters are 12-year-old boys, even the ones that are 4,000 years old. Every character is immature in a noogie-giving, burst out laughing, prank-pulling kind of way. It got old fast. I don't mind having a little brother type character, but EVERY male was the same in this regard. You'd think after a few millennia one would learn some restraint.
4. The pacing. Everything happens fast. Which is why I forgave Skye's lack of meltdown over the whole werewolf thing. She took it surprisingly well, and I figured it was just due to the fact that she got bitten a few days before the full moon, and there was no time for a freak out. Unfortunately, the whole book is this way. Instead of allowing the characters to get to know each other and relationships to develop over weeks, everything is hours and days. Skye is also the most adaptable person I've ever encountered because she just rolls with everything. Turn into a werewolf and said werewolf goes into heat 24 hours later? No big. Werewolf takes over your human form and gets down and dirty with a club full of men? No problem. Have public sex with a guy you just met? It's ok, you sort of liked him anyway. There is not a natural, emotional reaction to anything in the book.
I have a complete book crush on this book. The sequel (s) can't come soon enough. Seriously this had it all for me, so if you like paranormal or even fantasy then read it. What made it so good? It had a kick ass heroine, amazingly witty one liners that I wanted to remember to use again with friends and pretend I thought of them, hot men by the bucket load. It made me laugh and cry (proper tears) and it was long. It has the structure and complexity of story that reminds me of a good fantasy series (and I've read a few in my time), but you have enough closure in the first book to walk away feeling happy but wanting more (eventually... Having been dragged through the mill, but don't want to give anything away... )
Seriously, if you like this sort of thing I can't recommend it strongly enough... And even if you don't normally read this genre but might consider giving one a go, then try this. I believe it's the first book by this author, I pray we have lots more to come.
When I first started reading this story, I thought that it wasn't going to be something that I would enjoy. As I kept at this one I was very glad that I kept at it because I SO enjoyed this story.. The characters are great! Skye is badass, Taran is a sexy and lovable man, and Ciaran...he is the character that I LOVED the most. Every character is well thought out and the story lines are very easy to follow. My only trouble in the whole book was following the Highland accents. They were written much different that what I have been used to in the past but it wasn't something that took away from the story at all. I certainly hope that this will be a series because I truly enjoyed the characters throughout the story. I look forward to more books from this author in the future.
I ended up putting this book down and not finishing it. The book held so much promise at the beginning- the main character was strong, determined, and driven by revenge. because she was abused for years, she doesn't let any male touch her. Then all of a sudden she becomes a shifter and wants to have sex with everyone. Really? It doesn't make sense. She goes from one extreme to the other. Maybe I will pick it up and try again later.
While there were a few things in this book I didn’t like, the sheer breadth and length of the narrative overcame any shortcomings. Topping over 700 pages of paranormal delight, this novel is like 3 books in one, and it spans the gambit, finding both highs and lows along the way. Written in third person, which though I seldom read these days, it still somehow conveys a personal touch and still allows those inner monologues first person sagas are so known for. We get to know Skye, along with the faols that surround her - both through her eyes and theirs. Amazingly wrought and deftly presented, this legend inspired narrative is truly captivating.
Pros: - Skye... her growth, strength and weakness bleed through the pages. We struggle with her. - It actually made me cry. Real tears. You’ll know the part when you get there. - New take on familiar themes and legends. - Length!!! Glorious. It really allows the characters to stretch their legs. - Interactions are VERY funny!
Cons: - POV switches are very frequent, sometimes paragraph to paragraph. In the beginning, this is confusing, but by the end it feels normal. - Though very unique, there were a few trite moments.
I laughed, I cried... This author is an amazing writer and the story is easy to fall in love with. Alisha Ashton has an amazing imagination and she became on of my favorite authors with this one book.
So first thing I wanna comment about is something I ususlly don't. It's the length of this book, most book lately are 200-300 pages or even less and while enjoyable somtimes you jusst want a book with a little more meat to it. Well, look no further at over 650 pages this one gives you a great story without sacrificing anyhthing just to make it shorter. And if you're like me that an amazing thing. Now onto the story.
Skye's life has been pretty craptastic, with her family murdered by vampires and her held captive by them for more years than she care to remember, there's not much left of her life except revenge. After escaping the horrow that became her life she trained to be able to take out those who were like her captors. As she finishes her quest another is unexpectedly started when she becomes chow for a werewolf.
As her new journey begins she must learn to accept what has happened to her and how to deal with the beast that now lives within her. On her last mission an unexpected friendship started with a group known as Ashers, now she must rely on them to get her to where she must be to learn all about her new reality.
Enter the perpetually overexcited Miko who's auquianted with a werewolf, or foul as they prefered to be called, and it's his job to get her to Scottland where Taran is so he can help Skye. Miko is a hyperactive goof ball sweetie pie. He might take time to get used to, but once you do you love him in all his craziness.
Taran. He's the sexy as sin scottsman whos tasked with teaching Skye about who she is. He sex appeal on a stick with an accent to make you go crazy with lust. The chemestry between them is sizzling, but he knows about her past and understands that patience is a virtue. He's an alpha male who knows whats going on at all times and will do anything to protect those he loves.
Ciaran, well he not one you can ever prepare to read about but once you do you'll be under his spell forever.
Those are the main guys you'll read about each with their own importance in the story there's other main characters as well, and of course there's also Skye.
Talk about a chick you can only wish to emuilate in a word she's BADASS!!! She says what on her mind without a care for what others think. She can defend herself from most and she' got attitude. She's not just tough though she's got vulnerability that just draws you to her making you want to see her happy.
This story sucks you in right from the begining taking you on a journey through a new exciting paranormal world. At every turn there's something unexpected, and if you ever feel confused about anything about the paranormal aspect of any part of the story, take care all the answer are revealed throughout when the time is right. If there's something you don't understand it's not something that was overlooked there's a reason for everything and you will definitley not be left wanting at the end of the book. Except for even more from this series! Great read that I'd definitely recommend to anyone!
After being held against her will and tortured for 10 years by the vampires that killed her entire family, Skye escapes and hunts down those responsible to take her revenge.
Skye understandably doesn’t trust anyone and keeps herself to herself not talking to anyone, it’s safer that way. That’s until she meets Franco, the night manager at a hotel she stays at, and after finding out about his pregnant wife and 3 kids she offers advice on how to protect them from the vamps. She tells him that the vampires aren’t the only ones he needs to watch out for but also the “lickers” - humans who don’t have fangs but drink blood to fit in. They work for the vamps in the daytime and if they prove themselves useful they get turned.
Skye was just minding her own business killing vampires when she mistakenly attacks a werewolf and is bitten. She is promptly rescued by Miko, Aiyana and the rest of the Asher team. As Miko is the only living Asher who has been in direct contact with faol, he was tasked to take Skye to Scotland to meet Taran, the sexy faol who can help Skye through her first change and teach her who she is.
Skye’s journey is one full of mystery, twists and turns, and she has a lot to learn of her new life and her pack. There are lots of secrets that she is not allowed to learn about until the time is right.
Ciaran the Irish faol and Miko the Asher were my favourite characters in the book, I laughed more than once reading about them both.
Skye had no friends or family to speak of. She was extremely tough, had major attitude and could most definitely defend herself, she didn't want anyone see her as weak. I loved the friendship that she developed with Miko and she became fiercely protective of him.
I desperately wanted Skye to find happiness after the really bad life that she had lived, and she definitely does find it by the end of the book.
Although this is the first book I have read about werewolves, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it held my interest all the way through to the end, and at 667 pages it really is excellent value for money.
The Scots and Irish Gaelic names and terms and words and phrases glossary in the book is very handy, I hate when you are reading a book and aren’t sure of the correct pronunciation of names.
First of all I must say that I rarely read these type of books but a fellow blogger recommended that I give this one a shot. She told me that I would enjoy the read and she was right, I did. Skye Traveled, seeking revenge on her Brothers. For a decade she was held captive and tortured. Her brothers deserved everything that she inflicted on them. You would think that with the last decade of her life being the whirlwind that is was she would finally get a break, nope not even close. Drostan an Ancient Faol makes an appearance one night and Skye was bitten. Miko and Aiyana take her under their wing and eventually take her to Scotland to get her the help she will need to cope. Taran… (bow-chica-wow-wow) Sexy as hell Scottish god-like Tacharan Faol. He stood by Skye during her first transformation and even came out of it with a few battle scars. He became the one she began to trust and with the past she has had to endure that in itself is a huge accomplishment. Trust did not come easy for Skye. Their chemistry was HOT and he took his time with her, he felt with a past as she had, time was necessary. Miko was a riot, I loved his character and the relationship that had developed between her and Skye. The story unfolds revealing secrets throughout that explain why Skye was chosen and why she is such a special addition. The story held my interest which as I said is hard considering I normally do not rea these types of stories. In the end I was so very happy I did. It was well worth the time. I was hooked, intrigued and in the end I found myself a little worried. I found my heart once again breaking for Skye and what she was suffering through but in the end finally Badass finally got some good her way. She finally was able to have a HEA.
The story is about Skye. Skye has had a rough 10 years after her family were killed by vampires and she held captive also, as well as exacting revenge on the vampire. Just as she begins to think she may be free she it bit by a werewolf. So being Skye’s journey of expecting and learning about her new life. She makes new friends along the way.
One thing I loved about this story was the characters. Skye was a great strong lead character. She didn’t let any mess her around and was very kick ass. Other characters were equally great such as Miko and Taran. Miko was a crazy, sweet guy who also seemed to make me smile. Taran is a sexy scots man who is very protective. There is great chemistry between Skye and Taran.
The story hooked me from the beginning and there were lots of twists and turns from the beginning. It’s a really long book at over 600 pages which is great because you get a great story and it allows the author to explain why things are happening. It did take me a little while to get use to the Latin words in story. I just had to get my head around the pronunciation and meaning but luckily the author provides a glossary at the beginning.
Overall a brilliant start to a series and I really hope the author writes more books. I really enjoyed this one
Skye has been hunting vampires. Not just any vampires though. They are her brothers who were turned by a monster who then turned on her and tortured her for years under his command. On the night she kills the last of her brothers and fights alongside the Ashers everything changes with one bite...a wolf bite. Rescued by the Ashers from him, she is taken by Miko to Scotland to find out everything possible about wolves especially since she is a rarity. There she finds her heart, her best friend, family, and a purpose.
I can't even tell you how much I loved this book. Skye kicks ass. Serious warrior chick. Even more so once she's changed. Taran...oh. my. Perfect match in every way. He shows her just how precious she is and what it is to be loved and cherished. And um...that car scene...scorching hot! I mean break the thermometer hot! Then there's Ciaran...holy hot guy that likes to play! I so adore him. He lightens both Skye and Taran with his sense of humor. These men complete her.
Darkness Descends has everything I love in a book...romance, action, humor, and even a few tear jerking moments. I loved each and every part of it. You absolutely need to read this one. It ranks up there in my top ten reads this year. That's how much I loved it. And the bonus...it's just the beginning. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Vampires, werewolves and hot Scotsmen? Check, Check and definitely check!
This debut novel by Alisha Ashton was superb. The leading lady Skye is a bad ass, take names chick. she can single handedly take down a man twice her size and some even three themes her size.
Skye is a vampire hunter hell bent of talking the whole species out from killing her parents and taking her brothers away from her. She was tortured and held captive for ten years, so she doesn't take kindly to men touching her or talking to her.
After becoming a werewolf, she is saved by the Ashers who take her to Taran, a werewolf. Taran is taken by her and Skye learns about who she is and who she can now trust during her journey.
I laughed, i cried and couldn't wait for the next crazy thing that would come out of Ciaran's mouth or the questions that always came from Miko.
This book has over 600 pages, but it has lots of detail that you would have otherwise missed with a short book. At first it was a little hard for me to get into the story, but once I did, I couldn't put it down.
***Received copy of book for honest review from Author****
I was intrigued by the blurb for this book. The story of Skye starts out with blood, a lot of blood. It's 3 years in the past...
It felt as if she was awakening from a psychotic nightmare- one that had take nearly a decade to end. Her arms were crossed over her chest as her body trembled uncontrollably in shock. The blood that covered her from head to toe was drying now, offering her bare flesh a layer of protection from the cold night air.
And that quickly I was totally hooked. I had to know what happened. What could have happened to cause the blood? Was it Skye's blood? A decade long nightmare?
What a great way to tell the story of the Werewolf . I love how Alisha wrote skye as this Bad ass chick with such a huge undercover heart. All the HOT sexy werewolf's .....omg they had me all heated hehe . This book has everything you need in a great book awesome drama, humor, sadness (I ugly cried) , and Heart . It was hard not to give this book 5 starts but it got kinda long in some parts and I found myself skimming . Dont give up on it if you find yourself skimming bc it gets really good at the end. This was a must read book that had me up all night .
Was kindly gifted a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
A very good kick ass paranormal romance. Get the twilight saga out of your head as this book is so much darker. Its sexier and funnier and I was dragged through all kinds of emotions while reading this book. It has vampires and werewolves and some extra hot men thrown in for good measure.
A fantastic debut novel that will leave you wanting more of Skye's kickass attitude.
Its not a short read. This book packs 600 pages of pure pleasure reading and if you love paranormal book, then this is a book for you
I was gifted this book from the author for my honest opinion.
This was a great paranormal, with Vampires and werewolves. Kept me intrigued from the beginning till the end. I loved the characters and felt a connection with them. would totally recommend others to read this book and deffo worth the 5 star .
This is a great story with vampires, werewolf. I normally don't read a lot of werewolf novels but glad i made the exception. This is a must read. I hope to see more of this author because she is that good
A good arse-kicking paranormal romance. Plenty of scratching, kicking and werewolf action. We've got nasty vampires and gorgeous ultra-sexy wolves. Plenty of kissing and pining. Yep, a good solid romance.
So I was actually on a book that has a face the other day, and saw this book posted on a group. I decided to give it a try through KU.. which we all know is pretty much like Russian roulette. Most of the time, I seem to find “meh” (or holy hell that’s horrific. Why is that in print? Did anyone bother to proof this book??) with the rare “omg, I love that”.
This was one that was a book I ended up buying because I was that impressed. Granted, I do not always buy, but when I find an author that I want to support, I will purchase even if I’ve read the book through KU.
What did I like? I feel like this book had a different world than what I’m used to reading for vamps and shifters. I was interested in learning more from the beginning. I got sucked in by about page 13% and had issues trying to put it down.
Would I recommend to everyone? No, I wouldn’t recommend to anyone who doesn’t love (or like) a little bit of paranormal in their reads. Let’s face it, if one doesn’t like to read about vampires and werewolves, chances are he or she won’t like this book. If you do like a lil fang in your reads, then I’d recommend this book.
Do I have a favorite character? Nope. I liked several of the characters. The heroine wasn’t a complete idiot who was TSTL. The guys were flipping amazing.
Will I read the next in the series? Yes. Already ordered and waiting for me to finish typing a review.
I loooove long books and this one delivered. *I have tagged abuse and rape but that does happen before we meet our MC and although it does shape her behaviour we don't have flashbacks and we, as readers, don't live through it by reading about it step by step.
Skye gets major revenge on the vampires who tortured her for 9 years and on that night she gets bitten by a creature she never knew existed. She is to become a werewolf, but don't tell them I called them that. She is brought to the only werewolf her new friends know, all the way to Scotland. From there we meet so many friking characters is hard to keep in line. She meets the whole clan of werewolves all 800k maybe.
I'm only disappointed that she ends up with only two mates, one that she calls holds her heart and the other is her confidant? Couldn't they both have been equal I wonder?
Anyway the whole 500 + pages develop in the span of only a few days before a big battle happen and we get our most pressing questions answered.
The majority of the book is funny, with the kind of easy ribbing of males that know each other and are so confident in each other's masculinity and friendship. No wonder when we hear of them being together for more than 4000 years. Ancient indeed but still able to chase each other like little boys.
I'm at work and have a meeting in 20 minutes so I need to be brief.
God damn. I mother fucking loved this book. I didn't want it to end. I can't believe I have to wait two full months for the sequel. At least I didn't read it two years ago.
1. I love that this is a complex story, yet doesn't seem unnecessarily complicated. 2. I saw movie scenes as I read. Great detail about the things that mattered. 3. There was sex, but the story was front and center. The market is saturated with sex to the point I've started skimming it in many books. 4. I had no idea what was coming. I love being surprised.
I have cried, laughed and cheered throughout this entire book. This was probably one of the best books I’ve read in a while. I want to visit Scotland just to hear someone say, ‘Fook!’ I can’t wait to read more.
This. Book. Is. So. Freaking. Good. Like, click buy, purchase now, breathe and eat later! I absolutely loved this book!! Definitely needs to be at the top of your tbr list!!
I am in awe. Seriously, this book is SO GOOD. Like, so good I won't be able to articulate how amazing it is. The characters, the character development, and storyline, the humor, the setting, the length of this book...everything was superb. I am so excited about this series I am internally SHRIEKING. If you like bad guy vamps, swoon-worthy wolves, a dash of magic, and more action than you can handle, get this book right now. You will not regret it!
I cried, I laughed and even snorted a time or two! Absolute great read, the story drew me in and the emotion of the characters had me feeling like i was a fly on the wall.
