She is a Japanese manga artist known for creating The Magic Touch and Oresama Teacher which have both been serialized on the Hana to Yume magazine. Tsubaki began drawing manga in her first year of high school. She was soon selected to be in the top 10 of Hana to Yume Mangaka Course, and subsequently won the Big Challenge contest.
Quite funny, and I was glad to see a bit more actual story being sustained rather than just one-pagers. I'm still wondering why our protagonist has a crush on Nozaki in the first place. Tsubaki conveys the Prince's attractions quite well, so it'c clearly a deliberate choice to make Nozaki's non-obvious. But most people's unrequited affections are opaque to me.
Especially amusing was the section where Nozaki is ill and his friends rally to try to complete his manga by deadline. Bonus: finally a clear explanation of "tone" and how one adds it! Sounds like a ton of work; do mangaka still use it or do they mostly photoshop these days?
read 2. The anime is faithful to the manga. I’m not sure which came first, but one or the other is REALLY accurate, down the very lines. --- This was more hilarious than the last volume.
The story, though a collection of different stories, flowed really well and referenced each other in good taste. So enjoyable. A lot of the jokes are made because of silly misunderstandings, which are fun to read about.
Characters are just so fabulous. The girl who likes Nozaki is really sweet. I'm glad she sees him for who he really is and likes that. (As shown by events in this volume) Nozaki is single minded in favor of his manga, as usual. Yuzuki is hilarious because of her misleading singing. Wakamatsu is my favorite probably because he blushes anytime he flirts. It's endearing. The rest are pretty unique. There are definite ships between characters that are formulating.
Nozaki's face is strangely proportioned. I think his nose is too short. Or something. In some of the shots it's fine, but others it's not. Strange. That's my only complaint with this series' art.
Jadi... kemaren pas gw ngereview Komikus Shojo Nozaki Vol. 1 cuma 3*...banyak yang nanggapin kalau gw mesti nonton animenya. Yang bikin gw wondering dong. Pertama: Animenya emang sebagus apa?
Bedanya, semua chapter adil lucunya.
The best in twisted way :)))).
Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun is easily becoming one of my favorite Manga series!
As always romance/high-school tropes are given unique+comedic spins & that's what makes it so fun to read!
In this volume I loved that the side characters were more present & I learned a lot more about them than I did in volume 1!
yuzuki +waka's banter was the best! So funny! :') With Chiyo being Yuzuki's best friend, she gets offered one of her CD's & all the guys are obsessed w/ her beautiful singing voice! (Not knowing its her b/c she's always very serious/stern + brash at times) And Waka doesn't even know it is her, b/c she's always being very brash+arguing w/ him, & to help with his insomnia he ends up listening to her music to fall asleep!(´▽`ʃƪ) (I hope they get more page time together in future volumes!!)
Mayuki & the "Prince" of the school (Yuu Kashima) continue their funny/bickering banter as well, but they both definitely talk about each other with other characters even though they claim they don't get along, but I sure hope they get more development in the next volume too!
And as always Mikorin Mikoshiba is the shy heart-throb I can't help but adore!! <3 <3 <3
I love how overall, each of the character's are willing to help each other even when they clash a majority of the time! + So much female friendship+support +girl power! Love it!!
As with volume 1, Chiyo is familiar with Yukari, neighbor to Nozaki + also a manga artist! And she is always eager to help out + chat with Yukari when she needs it!
This manga series does a fantastic job at using typical romance/cliche tropes and using them in a very clever + comedic way!!
I didn't see the manga while reading it this time, so there were some moments the plot was a little slow + difficult to follow b/c it jumps around rather quickly! (hence the 4.5)
Overall the wonderfully-developed characters & all their wacky adventures are delivered with such heart+given great comedic twists! I will absolutely be reading Volume 3! <3 <3

Re-Read: January 2020 I was so harsh in my original review and I have no idea why. I love this series. It is honestly one of the funniest series I've come across. I love all the characters and I like how they each have their own thing that makes them funny. I especially love Waka and think his chapters were the funniest. The only parts I don't find funny are with Maeno-- I think he's much more annoying than humorous.
Original Review This was much better than the first volume. The story was less episodic since we actually know who everyone is and don't need to be introduced to a new character every single chapter. I don't think this is the funniest manga I've ever read, but there were definitely times where I audibly laughed. The humor is hit-or-miss, but when it's funny, it's really funny.
I'm not the biggest fan of the protagonists (why Chiyo loves Nozaki is a mystery to me) but the side characters more than make up for them. I almost wish that the series was about literally any of the other characters besides Ken.
I have the next 2 volumes out from the library so I'll read at volumes 3 and 4, and then decide if I want to continue with the series.
This was so much better than the first volume! Or maybe I finally got used to the style. Either way, I enjoyed it and was constantly giggling at characters and their shenanigans!
I love Montly Girls' Nozaki-kun sosososo much. Like the first volume, this continues to be hilarious and heartwarming. The anime still covers this volume but, even if there was nothing new, still made an entertaining and sweet read. I think Mikoshiba and Kashima are my favourite characters and I enjoyed so much the panels of these two together! Another thing I love from this manga, in general, is how much it challenges gender expectations and how swiftly it does and ahhhh I just love it all so much!
I love this so much! This is one of the few random comedies that work for me. Even if the chapters doesn’t seem to have a link to each other, we do get to know a bit more about the characters and their interactions are wholesome to say the least.
I love how nerdy Mikorin can be; along with sweet Sakura and workaholic Nozaki, they’re like the perfect trio~. I laugh a lot with Hori-senpai and Kashima and I also fully enjoy Waka being cute with Seo without wanting to, lol.
This manga is wholesome, sweet, with the kind of comedy that doesn’t rely on useless fan service and honestly, it’s the best! Whenever I finish a volume I just feel like life is good again and we don’t have to take it too seriously.
I love all their interactions and how they’re getting to know each other. Can’t wait to read the next one!
What's better than the pairing between an oblivious, workaholic himbo and the girl who's sunshine-y, frazzled, and head over heels for him. So cute and so ridiculously funny. I LOVE
I’ve always been a fan of Izumi Tsubaki, ever since her series Oresama Teacher, and for the most part I really enjoy Monthly Girls’s Nozaki-kun. The humour can be hit or miss, the hits are absolutely hilarious and have me laughing so hard I can’t breathe, while the misses, what can I say? I find there is often word play in manga that gets lost in translation, it’s something the scanlators do well and the official translators seem to fall short on. But where Monthly Girls’s Nozaki-kun really shines is with its characters, they’re all so dynamic and fun. This series hosts some of my favourite manga characters ever and I love them all.
When I was reading Vol. 1, I wasn't paying attention to the title of each page. They are so silly and definitely enhanced my read-through. My favorites in this volume are chapter 19 and 20, in which Mikoshiba poses for the art club and the gang tries to finish a chapter by themselves when Nozaki is sick.
A gain rated this one 4.5 stars!! Its so good. I just like how each chapter yet connected in a way. The four panel type of manga are now something I like (this is a four panel type of manga)
In this volume, we get something close to a plotline as the cast of characters gets bigger. Along with the regular shenanigans Nozaki gets into trying to make his story better, Chiyo gets to know more about his relationship with his current and former editors. Speaking of the former editor, there is a hilarious sideplot about some tanuki and oblivious men. And the queen of obliviousness, Seo, is currently bullying Wakamatsu but he is also being soothed by her singing (unknowingly) - all of which Nozaki employs into his manga's story in unexpected ways. Not being in the know, Kashima is surprised at this unusual gathering and misunderstands a lot, so that is hilarious. (She tried to give Hori feminine clothes - which had him pissed until he realized that they were well-coordinated). This motley gang of characters just has me in laughs, even if not much is happening plot-wise!
