Okay, so after getting SO many comments that defended this book EVEN in 2021!!!! I decided to read it again and tried to actually complete it this time.

But do you know what happened when I started the book again????

Nothing, because I just couldn't complete it. This book is defo a miss for me. Veronica is just NOT the right character and Caleb is just too dreamy.

PS: If you are someone who loved this book? my review does not mean any harm to your feelings. everyone has their own opinion and you can still enjoy this book even if I didn't. I am glad it worked for you. this is just not my jam and too cliche, clingy, jumpy and unrealistic.

same rating still DNF even before 70%

Let me tell you; why i didn't finished this book??

► So much drama.

► No character development.

► Lack of trust. h DO NOT trust H a little bit.

► Possibly loves triangle issue. which shouldn't be in this.

► Hated the h. Do not feel a slight pity for her or her situation.

► H was too good for her. he deserved much much better and she was just annoying.

► Best-friend turned a jealous annoying bitch who tried to show that H cheated on h.

► and H didn't have any idea that his best friend or clingy ex was behind all the crap.

► Like I said there was so much unnecessary drama in this book. which was just annoying.

(I received an advance copy of this book for free. Thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and NetGalley.)

This was an adult contemporary romance story, featuring a girl named ‘Red’.

Veronica and Caleb were okay characters, although it took me a while to really warm up to them.

The storyline in this was about Caleb meeting Veronica and calling her ‘Red’ because of the red dress she was wearing. He found out that she was homeless and offered up his spare room, and then slowly fell in love with her. I did like the romance in this story, but it was a little annoying the way that ‘Red’ kept pushing Caleb away, even when he was really sweet to her, and I was a little surprised at the lack of sex scenes.

The ending to this was a cliff-hanger.

Well, it may finally be snowing outside but man, this book was HOT! What can I say, I like to call it straight and say it like it is.

As always with romances (especially when hovering the erotic romance genre boundary line with this one), you're either going to love this one or hate it. Personally, when a book makes me lose track of time and stay up until 1 am reading (as this one did), it's consider a winner in my mind. Not only did I stay up well past my bedtime reading this but this book was hard to put down. It was read in a span of less than 12 hours-8 hours of which I did eventually spend sleeping.

The story started at a fast pace from the beginning with little to no introduction and it kept me hooked, introducing the characters and their backgrounds throughout. Admittedly, there are flaws for each of the main characters that could cause controversy or dislike to the story. I say this with each erotic romance/romance review though because often, there is controversy for the whole genre: the characters in these novels aren't supposed to be examples of "healthy relationships". It's helpful to remember that this is fiction purely meant to entertain readers, not a pseudo-manual to compare and contrast actual relationships in your reality.

With that disclaimer being said, I really did enjoy this novel. Even though the two main characters had flaws (who doesn't) I really rooted for them and could read of the chemistry between the two. The novel had me racing through the pages because I couldn't predict what would happen next and I was totally absorbed in the story. I also enjoyed the age bracket of the two main characters which seems like an odd thing to say but it doesn't seem that we have many novels within the semi-erotic romance genre that have both main characters still in college/university.

Upon completion of this novel, I'm desperate to read the sequel, "Always Red". I need to read more about these characters, their relationship, and what happens next!

I really TRIED with this one. I didn’t like it from page one, but I kept on going thinking it would redeem itself, but I gave up at 33%.

I do like the writing style. It flowed and it was easy to read. The angst level had the right amount of tension to pull me in and that’s what kept me reading.

But as I kept on reading I got madder and it was to the point where if I got less mad, I would have still not liked the book.

The MAIN thing that made me not like Chasing Red was VERONICA. < ---- I hate to say it but the girl is a bitch.

YUP. I would say she is a (C you NEXT Tuesday) kind of girl. Gah, I can’t believe I’m being that negative, but really?

What does Caleb see in her? Okay Caleb has his flaws too. Showing off his pecs and abs saying that is why he gets laid so many times?! **EYE Roll**

Veronica is so jumpy she comes out with a knife in Caleb’s own home. Because you know someone who lives in a penthouse with a doorman can be robbed in broad daylight.

It just didn’t make sense.

Veronica was so pushy, so guarded, I couldn’t see ANTYHING redeeming about her. She was a nasty mean bitch who deserves to be alone.

I’m SORRY! But that’s how I felt.

Schwierig schwierig!
What?! Hab ich was verpasst?! Nein!

Total NA/YA story similar in style to the After series. Drama to the max. But Caleb is a sweetheart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, I am just not going to read any more NA or YA books. I cannot deal with the immature virgin, I am scared of my own shadow, story.
While I loved the writing style and the flow of the story, Veronica made this story difficult to get through. She is immature and falls back on her fears over and over and over. The guy is giving himself over and over and tries to win her trust and she still pushes him away and then in the next page pulls him in. UGH! I was cheering when her own GF told her to get over herself! HA!
For my the only redeeming quality of this book is Caleb. He is a cocky little sex god but he is completely devoted to her. I love how he falls!
The author is talented, no doubt. The book flows well and is captivating in many ways. I can see that she will be a talent for years to come.
Well I did finish it but boy was that a chore.
Hero and Heroines were immature.
The dialogue was silly at times.
And I liked the hero more then the heroine, she was irritating.
Writing was okay, pacing dragged at times.
Rich, party, bad boy rescues girl in trouble.
Girl is fearful, can she trust the guy??
Hero constantly trying to win her trust.
They dialogue and inter monologue was high school, too immature for this girl.
Chasing Red is originally a Wattpad book that got published. Wattpad stories that get published are always a hit or miss with me and this one was a miss. This book was doing way too much. Like every New Adult cliché you could think of was in this book: rich, popular boy that makes all the panties drop; a damsel in distress heroine who is saved by said rich boy and then tries to resist his charm, but ya know, she can't help but fall for him; drama, lots and lots of drama. So I'm calling it quits before I end up throwing my eReader across the room.
Chasing Red is a college romance setting where the rich boy, Caleb falls for the poor girl Veronica. I had some adjusting to do with this book because the characters behaved a bit juvenile for my tastes, but then I reckon it's typical behavior of college kids.
I didn't think this was going to be the story for me, but the more I read, the more Caleb drew me in. I'm such a sucker for a hero that only sees the heroine and that is what Caleb brings to this story. The way he is so gone for her hooked and reeled me in.
Caleb, the rich kid who can have any girl he wants falls fast and hard for Veronica, Red as he calls her. He's relentless in his pursuit of her but she is not wiling to fall for his playboy ways. She doesn't realize she's a game changer for him.
There is a lot of pushing away by "Red" in this story but Caleb sure makes up for that with his constant charm trying to win her over. There is also other women/men drama. We got the conniving other woman who wants Caleb all to herself and is willing to do anything to get him and then we have the guy who's part of Caleb's crew but secretly resents that he is rich and likes to stir trouble.
Typically, I don't go for these types of books, but I got to admit the author sucked me in. This ended on a cliffhanger and I need to see where the author takes this story. ARC provided by NetGalley.
2 “Color me disappointed” Stars
ARC via NetGalley.
Thank you, Sourcebooks Casablanca!
I'm definitely one of those New Adult fans saddened by the fact that the genre didn't stick. Sure there was that BOOM a few years ago, but traditional publishers seem to avoid NA books at all costs, and it's been hard to even find self-published material lately.
So I was intrigued when I saw Chasing Red on NetGalley.
A Wattpad phenomenon, Chasing Red promises exactly what I look for in NA books: college kids falling in love and lots of drama. The problem was I didn't like the drama and I didn't fall in love with the characters.
Told from the POV of both main characters, Caleb and Veronica, the book simply lacked any wow factor for me. Caleb's POV chapters were a little better than Veronica's, but not good enough to impress me. As to Veronica, I simply didn't care for her that much. I couldn't connect with them, which means the book didn't have much of a chance of intriguing me.
I was mainly disappointed because the premise in itself usually hooks me. I'm a sucker for "the girl in trouble goes to live with bad boy and they fall in love" kind of story, but the lack of chemistry between Caleb and Veronica, the stilted dialogue, and my lack of connection with the characters kept me from fully enganging with the story.
No matter how hungry I was for another college romance book, Chasing Red didn't do it for me.
An intense romance full of anticipation. Described as a global phenomenon, Chasing Red by Isabelle Ronin, is a tempting coming of age read.
Chasing Red centers around Caleb and Veronica, called Red by Caleb because of the color she wore the night he met her. The plot is fairly straightforward. The black knight in shining armor recuses the damsel in distress by giving her a place to live while she gets back on her feet. Caleb is a black knight because he’s an unapologetic player, but from the moment he lays eyes on Veronica everyone in the planet ceases to exist. He’ll not only give her shelter, he’ll stop at nothing to win her heart.
“I need you to stop,” he whispered.
“Stop?”
Whatever you’r doing to me.”
I need you get you out of my mind.”
Due to her painful upbringing, Veronica has serious trust issues when it comes to the opposite sex and no matter how much Caleb makes fissures in her walls by proving himself worthy of her trust, she’s too afraid to let him in for fear of getting hurt herself and in doing so she pushes away the one person who’s loved her unconditionally. Will Caleb be able to win her heart?
“This was something else. It was painful, almost unbearable. But it was the good kind of pain… I wanted to possess her just as she possessed me. She was fire, and I wanted her to burn me… consume me.”
Aside from the over the top drama from Veronica, which would be better suited from high school adolescent than a college age girl but I understood and believe to normal for a young adult, I did wish there were more layers in regard to character development. But I’m sure I understand the appeal of this story and his name is Caleb Lockheart.
Being from a well to do family, with a blessed physic and being the MVP in his basketball team to boot, Caleb never had a problem getting attention from the opposite sex but he’d begun to feel bored and empty, until he saw a girl in a red dress seductively dancing in a club who a few moments later rescued him from unwanted advances from female admires. She rejected him right after, but that same night their roles were reversed and he rescued her in a big way by letting her stay at his place.
“I had been starved for love and affection for so long that I’d forgotten what it felt like. I had refused to let anyone in, afraid to be hurt again. But this boy holding my hand was stripping me of my armor bit by bit.”
At first Caleb was a big flirt with Veronica, but as time went on he became determined to be the best man he could possibly be in order to be worthy of her. Not only did they have delicious chemistry, they were slowly forming a unique bond. Even though Veronica was determined to push him away and beat anything between them to a pulp.
“She was like a puzzle that was missing a few pieces. Maybe I’d carve my own pieces to complete her.”
I really have no idea what Caleb wants to be when he grows up but page after page he made me laugh, smile and swoon. His unwavering love and devotion to Veronica endeared me to him. I’m cheering him on and I truly hope that she’ll step up and be the girl not just that he want’s but needs.
“Why are you doing this? What do you take care of me so much?”
My Red. So alone. So lonely. I’m here now. “I don’t think you’ll believe me even if I told you.”
I feel obligated to mention that there are other forces trying to keep these two apart but I believe Caleb is thoroughly invested in this relationship. There’s also a side plot between Caleb’s best friend Cameron and Veronica’s newfound best friend Kara that I’d like to read more about.
Chasing Red is the first book in the Red duet by Isabelle Ronin. It is a full length new adult romance. It is told from multiple points of view and ends with a cliffhanger.
This story was much more than I thought it was going to be. I expected some college slapstick humor, along with lots of manwhore behavior. What I got was a great story full of romantic angst.
Veronica has a very good reason to not trust men. She’s a strong independent woman and she has no need for anyone to save her. Caleb has a natural protective personality. It’s his nature to want to take care of those in need. When he learns the woman in red is homeless he offers his spare bedroom as a place to stay. He doesn’t hide the fact that he’s attracted to her.
Caleb immediately sets aside his player ways because there is only one persona he wants to be with and that’s his Red. She’s his everything. Now if he can just convince her to give him a chance. I loved how dedicated to her he was. From the moment they meet he’s all in and there’s nothing that’s going to change those feelings.
Unfortunately, this had some other woman and other man drama which cranked the angst up to obscene levels. I’m not a huge fan of this particular ploy but I accepted it for what it was. After all, it works for this story. My heart was absolutely breaking at the end although I felt Caleb picked a really awful time to push for her trust.
This was a slower paced read that sometimes bogged down under the weight of these characters internal musings, but overall was enough to make me want to know what happens after this huge cliffhanger.
Historia New Adult, a mi parecer un pelín floja, ya que los enamoramientos tan rápidos me suelen descuadrar y Verónica la protagonista no termina de convencerme 100%
A veces se me ha hecho aburrido, porque era simplemente el día a día y no pasaba nada ... practicamente todo repetitivo, incluso la descripción de la búsqueda de trabajo y el reparto de curriculums.
A partir del 65% o así se pone más entretenida la historia, empiezan a pasar cosas distintas y se lee mejor, aunque tiene clichés por todos lados.
A ver, puedo decir que me ha entretenido mucho y que me ha enganchado hasta el infinito. Tanto que he tenido que empezar el segundo porque me corroe la curiosidad de saber cómo acabará la historia. Pero el resto no se salva.
Sueños rojos es una historia new adult llena de clichés y relaciones tóxicas, sobretodo la de nuestros protagonistas, cosa que me fastidia, porque supuestamente ella no quiere ese tipo de relación, ya que sus padres la tuvieron. Pero nos podemos encontrar cada cosa... Y es cierto que a veces no me molestan, pero en este libro sí me han molestado. Por ejemplo, el protagonista masculino llega a estar celosa de la mejor amiga de la protagonista por pasar tiempo con ella. POR FAVOR. Repite lo de ES MÍA y DE NADIE MÁS como 10 veces por capítulo. Incluso habla de que un amigo suyo tiene una relación abierta pero que jamás podría tener una así con Ver porque es SUYA. Y él mismo se da cuenta de que está OBSESIONADO con ella, pero no le importa... y estas por contaros algunas, pero hay bastante de este en el libro.
Y ya no hablemos de la repeticiones de estructura. Muchos capítulos "se repiten", empiezan igual, utiliza las mismas coletillas. Es que han sido muchas cosas las que no me dejan aprobar a esta historia por mucho que haya podido disfrutar ciertas partes.
Sinceramente, si estáis buscando una historia de este género, buscad otra. Esta no la recomiendo más que para pasar un rato sin más.
1.5/5 stars.
I had heard about this book on Wattpad a lot and had seen that most people love this book. 🤧
I've no idea what's so appealing in this story...there are many Wattpad stories with similar plots. So obviously it lacks originality and is very predictable. And overrated. And some scenes don't even make sense.
The male lead is supposed to be swoon-worthy, I guess but I don't see anything special in him or the other characters.
Not worth reading in my opinion.
I love this book and its characters so much it's not even funny anymore. Caleb and Red are like the cutest couple ever even though Red sometimes really really annoys me, she is a really strong character and fights for what she wants. I recommend this book to anyone, really.
30% through and I'm not really feeling it... at all.
-dull characters
-creepy Hero. Seriously, why is it okay for him to proposition her at every turn? Because he's "hot"?
-annoying heroine
-way too much drama
-disjointed story line
-is there even a plot to this story?
So far the only thing I like about this story is Kara. Veronica's snarky, bitchy friend/co-worker.
...............
Made it to the 50% mark and I'm throwing in the towel. There's still no character development. I can't relate or even understand where these characters are coming from. Everything just seems so superficial. Guy saves girl, girl is fearful of all men, guy tries to earn her trust by throwing out innuendo after innuendo, and then you top it off with tons of drama. I really have no idea what I'm reading and why I keep trying to push myself to finish it. So, I'm calling it quits. I love a good contemporary romance, but this just isn't for me at all.
I heard about this book on Wattpad but I wasnt really interested. Description didnt sound like much, so I was just mehh. But, few days ago I saw 123 millions of views on this book. I mean ''WTF?''
How could book get so much view? I was courius, and I started reading. Begining wasnt a lot, but with book going on I found myself loving characters more and more. Especially hero. What cute hot boy.
There was few thing needed, few things that I loved more than a lot, but all in all it was very good read and with that 4 stars rating.
Also, my first book in 2017. Still, cant believe it is new year. Ah well...
Inhalt
Ein Blick auf sie genügt und Caleb weiß: Er muss sie haben.
Veronica in ihrem roten Kleid hat ihn vezaubert, obwohl sie im Moment viel zu viele Probleme hat, um sich auf so etwas einzulassen. Doch dann kommt es dazu, dass sie fürs erste bei Caleb wohnt - auch, weil sie sonst keine Alternativen hat. Von der ersten Minute macht Caleb klar, dass er an ihr interessiert ist, aber Veronica, die aus schwierigen Verhältnissen stammt, sieht in ihm erst nur einen verwöhnten Bad Boy, auch wenn sie sich ebenfalls zu ihm hingezogen fühlt. Aber es fällt ihr schwer, Vertrauen zu fassen, selbst wenn Caleb etwas Echtes, Tiefes mit ihr will und bereit ist, Alles für sie zu tun ...
Protagonisten
Veronica, meistens Red genannt, war gerade obdachlos geworden, als sie bei Caleb landet. Sie musste miterleben, wie ihr Vater ihre Mutter schrecklich behandelt hat, und diese trotzdem nichts dagegen tat. Schon vor dem Tod ihrer Mutter musste sie sich um alles selbst kümmern, und danach war sie komplett auf sich allein gestellt. Sie ist also daran gewohnt, auf eigenen Beinen zu stehen und niemanden um Hilfe bitten zu müssen. Doch nun ist da Caleb, der komplett für sie sorgen möchte und sich in ihr Leben einmischt. Natürlich fällt es ihr schwer, ihm zu vertrauen, auch wenn sie die starke Anziehungskraft spürt. Sie sieht, wie sehr er sich bemüht, aber sie kann sich nicht so schnell auf ihn einlassen, vor allem, da sie von ihm erwartet, irgendwie enttäuscht zu werden. Bei seiner Vergangenheit erwartet sie fast schon einen Betrug und dadurch hat Caleb eigentlich schon schlechte Grundvoraussetzungen.
Caleb wird als Womanizer beschrieben und man sieht, wie sich überall Mädchen an ihn ranmachen. Aber als er Veronica erblickt, ist er hin und weg und möchte sein altes Leben hinter sich lassen. Andere Mädchen interessieren ihn einfach nicht mehr, Red ist die Einzige für ihn. Ihm wird sehr schnell klar, dass er mit ihr zusammen sein möchte. Dass er sie bei sich wohnen lässt, fand ich etwas unglaubwürdig, aber ich hab es einfach mal akzeptiert. Dass er sich so verwandelt, vom Player zum süßen Lover, fand ich schon etwas unglaubwürdig, aber er ist einfach schwer verliebt.
Er möchte Red für sich allein und ist dabei oft besitzergreifend und herrisch, weil er es gewohnt ist zur kriegen, was er haben will. Seine Art hat mich schon oft geärgert, weil er sich immer durchsetzen muss. Aber ansonsten war er so zuckersüß, dass man es ihm kaum übel nehmen konnte. Er ist manchmal auch etwas naiv, auch wenn er sonst noch so selbstbewusst auftritt. Er gibt sich auf jeden Fall die größte Mühe, ein guter Freund zu sein und hat eigentlich immer die besten Absichten.
Andere Charaktere
Cammilla ist Veronicas beste Freundin und eine ziemlich unterhaltsame Person, deren Handlungen ich manchmal nicht ganz verstanden habe. Zumindest nicht, warum sie immer wieder Milkshakes trinkt, obwohl sie laktoseintolerant ist. Mädchen, hör auf damit, das ist doch verrückt! Aber Cam hat die Geschichte witziger gestaltet, wenn Veronica und Caleb sich gestritten haben und sie Veronica als beste Freundin einen Rat gab.
Beatrice-Rose ist seit ihrer Kindheit mit Caleb befreundet und zwischen den beiden lief auch mal was, aber Caleb sieht sie jetzt nur noch als gute Freundin, vor allem, da nun Red in seinem Leben ist. Beatrice fällt es aber schwer, das so richtig zu akzeptieren, weil Caleb sonst nie eine Beziehung hatte. Wenn es mal ein Mädchen gab, dann war es sehr bald wieder weg und nur Beatrice blieb immer in seinem Leben. Ich fand Beatrice sehr anstrengend und mehr will ich auch gar nicht verraten, um nicht zu spoilern. Aber ich hoffe, sie taucht in der Fortsetzung nicht auf.
Handlung und Schreibstil
Also am Anfang fand ich noch, dass man merken kann, dass es eine Wattpad Story ist, die nach und nach verfasst wurde, aber es wurde bald besser und wirkte durchdachter - auch wenn es immer noch paar Dinge gab, die etwas aus dem Nichts auftauchten und eigentlich nicht so wichtig waren.
Nebenhandlungen gibt es kaum. Es geht um Veronica und Caleb und die Höhen und Tiefen ihrer Liebesgeschichte. Es gibt Leute, die ihrer Liebe im Weg stehen, aber eine Dreiecksgeschichte ist es auch nie. Zwar gibt es einen Charakter, bei dem ich erst dachte, dass sich da etwas entwickeln würde, aber er wurde immer wieder irgendwie verdrängt, was ich ehrlich gesagt ziemlich lustig fand. Dann waren da Beth und Theo, die zu Veronicas Freunden gehören, aber eigentlich nicht wichtig waren und die man auch hätte weglassen können.
Es gab noch die Geschichte um Cammilla und Cameron, Calebs besten Freund, und da hätte ich mir vielleicht noch etwas mehr gewünscht!
Es ging also um die Liebesgeschichte, aber manchmal habe ich mich gefragt, was da überhaupt noch passieren kann, aber dann tauchte wieder ein neues Hindernis auf. Diese waren aber nicht unzusammenhängend, daher hat mich das auch nicht weiter gestört, aber irgendwann hat es mich doch ein wenig genervt, dass immer wieder so etwas passiert.
Caleb hat außerdem immer wieder betont, wie sehr er Red begehrt. An sich kein Problem, aber er hat sich ständig wiederholt und manchmal passte es so gar nicht zum Gespräch. Er ist wie besessen von ihr und erwähnt es ständig. Die ständigen Anspielungen sind wiederum nicht so schlimm, sondern eher unterhaltsam.
Fazit
Mir hat "Du bist mein Feuer" ganz gut gefallen, weil es oft auch spannend war und ich die Handlung meist gut nachvollziehen konnte. Aber manche Dinge haben sich einfach wiederholt und das hat dann doch etwas genervt.
I must say that I had high hopes with this one... But while reading and after, I didn't feel as much as connected to the story and to the characters as I hoped I would. The author knows how to write but I think I was intimidated and got bored with all the dramas in the entire book. I don't read Wattpad so I read this one without knowing anything about it, and if it's a series, I hope the next one is less dramatic.
Un 3,5!
La verdad es que estoy bastante sorprendida, me ha enganchado bastante, aunque la historia de amor no me terminaba de convencer, estas historias siempre enganchan y te dejan con ganas de saber qué más puede pasar. Así que no descarto leer el segundo.
This book was just pure fun! Absolutely not a deep read, but it was steamy and full of drama. It you want something light and fast-moving this is it. Caleb spots Veronica for the first time on the dance floor at a club. She's wearing red and he can't take his eyes off her; he's fascinated. From there the Chase in ON. Both are college students. Caleb is a rich playboy and Red is a poor, homeless girl with trust issues. This is the first Wattpad book I've read and I will surely read the follow-up to this one which I think will be released in November and is called Always Red.
Thanks to Isabelle Ronin and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca through Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is one of those novels that the cover is what caught me right off the bat. Now that I have finished the book, it fits even more. This was my first tie reading anything from Isabelle Ronin and I am definitely going to have to read more in the future.
A novel crafted chapter by chapter to leave you on your toes. I felt like I was reading mini episodes of  Red and Caleb's dance around each other. It wasn't writing any different than any other book per say, but each chapter felt like it had its own start and end. It made it each to pick up and put the book down as I needed too.
Falling in love in college is always an adventure. Falling for the last guy in the world you thought you would is a hurdle all its own. Throw in a heck of a lot of doubt and fear, along with a guy who knows exactly what he wants and this book as a rollercoaster.
I loved reading about Caleb chasing red and I loved their mini dates. It was a fun book to get lost in. Once things started to get tricky at the end I found that I had gotten really invested in it even if Red sometimes drove me crazy with her indecisiveness. I can't wait to read the next novel in this series. I have a feeling some of the secondary characters are really going to come to the front.
