If Rachel doesn't give herself up for execution, they will die. The Undead Pool

Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan has managed to save the demonic ever-after from shrinking, but at a high cost. Now, strange magic is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong, and the truce between the Inderlander and human races is shattering. Rachel must stop this dark necromancy before an all-out supernatural war breaks out. Rachel knows of only one weapon to ensure the ancient elven wild magic, which carries its own perils. And no one knows better than Rachel that no good deed goes unpunished …

Book 9: Pale Demon ...

These books get better with every one! From book one you are invested in the characters because they are so well crafted. You can see the Hollows because the scene is set masterfully! The story is so well told you become immersed in it and become personally invested in the characters and their wants & desires!

Read book 1 -8 first & then READ THIS BOOK; you will not be sorry you did!

My Review:

Well seems Rachel has survied another day ... maybe ...

If she can just get to the annual witches’ conference and clear her name all will be well. Or there is always the alternative ... being trapped in the ever-after forever ... Can Rachel & her ragtag group of misfits & an Elf save Rachel & maybe the Day?

read the book & see!

Book 10: A Perfect Blood ...

These books get better with every one! From book one you are invested in the characters because they are so well crafted. You can see the Hollows because the scene is set masterfully! The story is so well told you become immersed in it and become personally invested in the characters and their wants & desires!

Publisher Blurb:

Ritually murdered corpses are appearing across Cincinnati, terrifying amalgams of human and other. Pulled in to help investigate by the I.S. and FIB, former witch turned day-walking demon Rachel Morgan soon realizes a horrifying truth: a human hate group is trying to create its own demons to destroy all Inderlanders, and to do so, it needs her blood.

She's faced vampires, witches, werewolves, demons, and more, but humanity itself might be her toughest challenge yet.

My Review:

Rachel lives to attempt to Save the World another day! Now she has to Save The Hollows, her friends, Inderlanders on a whole & herself from Humans?

Her blood is the key to Human's making serious trouble for Inderlanders and Rachel has to protect herself from the Humans & keep it from happening at the same time!

Read the book to see how this plays out!

Book 11: Ever After ...

These books get better with every one! From book one you are invested in the characters because they are so well crafted. You can see the Hollows because the scene is set masterfully! The story is so well told you become immersed in it and become personally invested in the characters and their wants & desires!

Read books 1-10 first & then READ THIS BOOK!

Rachel has done some damage that may cost her ... her life! Trent has become an unexpected ally; trust me I hated him with a FURY for several books ... but in the end; he may be the difference between life & Rachel losing her very soul! Can this fiery little red head save her own life & the Hollows?

Read this book & see!

Book 12: The Undead Pool ...

These books get better with every one! From book one you are invested in the characters because they are so well crafted. You can see the Hollows because the scene is set masterfully! The story is so well told you become immersed in it and become personally invested in the characters and their wants & desires!

My Review:

Trouble is a brewin' ... enter Rachel to investigate & Save the Day? At some point you've got to wonder ... How many lives has Rachel used? Does she have any left?

Read the book to find out & see if she can manage to save the day & maybe the world again!

After 8 books of 'why am I even reading this', this series FINALLY gets good. Pale Demon was the shit. It was so good. Firstly, Rachel starts showing character development. Secondly, the Rachel and Trent ship starts to sail (it was so good reading about them falling in love 😭), thirdly, we spend way more time on the demons and elves subplot and all the demons are really fun and interesting. Also Trent's kids are so adorable.

Pale Demon and Ever After were especially good. However, I still have a bunch of nitpicks.

Witch with No Name: Trent becomes a trophy wife in this book now that he is officially together with Rachel. He has no real purpose on the page. Rachel's angst about not deserving him gets very stale very quickly. They never really talk about things and their dynamic gets repetitive with the same few things recycled over and over - he's at the side cheering her on unconditionally, she's guilty, she doesn't deserve him yadda yadda, they make out and feel better, rinse and repeat.

Ivy was also completely sidelined. I loved how their friendship turned out - the deep well of love they have for each other, all the more remarkable for how toxic it was - but honestly why is she even in the story? It's Rachel repeating the same few things again: Ivy is beautiful, Rachel loves Ivy and wants her to have good things, someone threatens Ivy, Rachel kicks some ass and gets hurt in the process, rinse and repeat. I wish we had seen more of them as friends, relaxed and bantering, instead of just being told about how close they are and how much they love each other blah blah.

Thirdly, the author is not great at showing and tells a lot. Rachel's character development wasn't very convincing and you don't really feel 'rewarded' nor emotionally satisfied when she suddenly decides to change her patterns because her internal reflections and patterns aren't articulated enough. This tell vs show problem is also my issue with Ivy and Trent above. Rachel's personality changed quite a bit and her previous actions and approach are put into perspective compared to her current self, but I had to connect the dots myself. A real pity because her change is marked and real and more could have been done with it.

The demon and elf stuff was great though. And the epilogue was really sweet.

I was unfortunately disappointed by the series end as the author clearly crammed everything into the last several chapters of the last book. There were too many loose ends, unsatisfactory story arcs, it felt rushed, not all the character’s arcs were finished, our heroine never fully overcame her basic issues or grew up, the power struggle of the many races was never resolved, too many loose ends were left, and I sincerely hope Kim Harrison writes another book or two to finish all the unanswered question we all have as fans. A rather long unnecessary winding approach to an apdrupt end of a great series.

Love this entire series. I've been waiting for years as each new book comes out. I am currently on the waiting list with overdrive for the last one so I can listen while I commute. Will be eager to see what Kim and/or dawn cook come up with next. I own them all, worth reading more than once. Love the characters popping in and out of each book or so, growing from adversary to friend, all in all a great journey.

how do these books keep getting better!

Acotar has nothing on this series though if you liked it you’ll probably like this too. Most series lose their potency and substance when they go past 4 books, and here we are at 16+ and each one is better than the last. I don’t have a favorite because it’s one story, I have favorite characters and moments but it like a front seat view to the lives of Rachel and her friends.

Just amazing! The Hallows is a great collection to read, I never tire of Kim Harrison's writing. She does have a thing about hair though. I still have several books to go in the series.
