The next book of the series! The Other Side (Book 2):
An alien civilization offers the human race a deal – access to the Other Side and the extraction of its resources in exchange for technology and knowledge. Thanks to this, humanity opens up a whole new universe full of unusual opportunities.
Alex, just starting out as a prospector, sets off to the Other Side for the first time, but during the journey he finds himself in an unknown and extremely dangerous area, from where he can only escape over the bodies of his enemies.
I read this as an arc quite a while ago. I was pretty sure I had done a review for it as well. however I did not see that review when I looked up the series just a few minutes ago so I'm redoing it. it starts off pretty good I mean, it was different it was new. I liked it. I sent the publishing company a list of corrections. it is since come to my attention that they are a very small publishing company, and that they are behind on corrections so take it with a grain of salt when you read one of these they may be having more mistakes than you're used to. they will eventually get around to getting them fixed though. just you know keep pointing out those mistakes and they'll get around to getting them fixed. anyway enjoy the series it was pretty like I said it was pretty good. I'm actually looking forward to three as I'm hoping to get more characters than just the female that shows up in book two. anyway I give it 7/10 it's not bad for a first time author.
I received a review copy of this book. Interesting first in a series. It's earth paired up with the other side, which is another world that is like earth, but not. The main character is alone, after having beeing transferred into an area nobody knew anything about. Well, that's not true, but you'll find out if you read it. In any case, after rigorously applying the scientific method, (no, he didn't call it that), the book seems to end right at the point that he's about to meet another human for the first time after spending months in this other world. It's a decent story, and there's aliens on the earth side, so there is some scifi elements rolled in, but I like the story, and I'm likely to continue reading this series.
I can't recommend this novel. Mainly because it doesn't read like a novel but like a report on a novel. The first 20% is more or less a recounting of the world with almost no dialog nor real characters. At that point I skipped thru the book to see if anything changed but no, everything still reads like a report.
This book had a fresh take for this kind of story, and I found it interesting and enjoyable. The beginning was fast-paced, which I liked—there wasn't an overwhelming info dump at the start.
Although the book wasn't very long, it didn’t feel short while reading. It was well-paced and well-written, and I enjoyed it from start to finish.
The plot concept sounded interesting. Earth is connected to another planet, the MC gets stranded there and has to find a way to survive.
Sadly, the setup for the story is sheer endless and incredibly dull. Within the first 24% of the book nothing interesting happened.
The MC was quite a moron to go alone on another planet without taking information what is edible with him! Not to mention a survival kit which would include firestarter and water filters.
