Hellsgate #2

Dead Reaper Walking

Underage witches, a breakout from demon prison and a new hellgate... What could go wrong?

Reaper extraordinaire, Laney Larson, is stuck in Liberty, Oakwood of all places, for two reasons. One, there's way more paranormal activity going on than normal for a little town like Liberty. And two, a sexy as hell cop called Troy.

So when the proverbial hits the fan and they get wind of a demon break-out from the third hell, a prison even the demon king himself won't set foot in, what's a reaper to do but strap on her blades and help track the escapee down? But then the creature takes her man, and all bets are off.

A reaper, a demon and a cop... will Death claim them all, or just one?

I'm really busy lately with everything, and wasting a lot time in the street driving everywhere, make my reading time reduces a lot.

So the book two is better than the first one. The plot and storyline still interesting. I'm sad why only 80++ pages? It could be more impressive with 300 pages. And I still can't grasp the motive for opening the hell gate. Otherwise great action, and great romance too.

3,5 star.

I really enjoyed this sequel. Laney is hilarious and Troy is all hot possessive cop. These 2 will definitely steam up your car windows...

The action was fast-paced and reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, MIB and the X-files all rolled up into one.

SERIOUSLY SEXY AND DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!!
Title: Dead Reaper Walking
Series: Liberty, Oakwood
Designation: Book Two of Series, Not a Standalone
Genre: Paranormal/Supernatural/Fantasy Romance
Author: Mina Carter
My Rating: FIVE SUPER SEXY STARS*****
Oh my! Buttons over Biscuits! Talk about wild, hot and seriously sexy....this book has it all! This release is almost twice as long as the first book of the series, The Reaper and the Cop, and Mina has most definitely packed double the fun, action, adventure, romance and steamy sex into this riveting story. And I still loved every single page! Love action-packed adventure? It's included! Prefer something with a paranormal/supernatural kick? Yep, Mina has it covered. Can't live without a little mystery and suspense? You don't have to because it's here. Need great characters? You bet - the hero and the heroine both take charge, kick butt and take no prisoners. Like a generous measure of humor and snark sprinkled in? You got it. Gotta have fiery passion, steamy romance and dreamy sex? Oh, you better believe it's included! And, an extra plus, as is with all Mina's books, it's well crafted, well written and well edited. Although this book contains a good bit of backstory, I do not recommend it as a standalone, but rather a continuation so I do recommend reading Book One, The Reaper and the Cop, first. So far, this is only a two book series and does have a happy ending but Mina also sets the perfect stage for the introduction of more books in the future. Personally, I would love to see Laney and her new cop boyfriend, Troy Regan, continue their adventure together.
Laney Larson is a total bada**, and she's a reaper. She even has a Grimm. Yep, it's the family business inherited from her great, great, great, great something grandfather and she's the lucky one chosen from her siblings to pick up the mantel and carry on the family tradition. She's totally got it covered and everything well in hand. At least she did until she cruises into the small backwoods town of Liberty, Oakwood on her sentient, almost-alive(sorta) ride which can change from a custom super bad motorcycle to whatever the heck she needs and meets smokin' hot police detective Troy Regan and now, all bets are off. He's sex on a stick and she wants him for a one night romp. There's a little problem with her scenario of how everything will play out however. He wants her too - like forever! Oh, and he doesn't know she's a reaper - at least not yet and she's only supposed to tell her one true love, at least according to her grandfather. What's a girl to do??? Why tell him, of course! Unfortunately for our two new lovers, there's serious trouble brewing in town and it's headed straight for them! And said trouble just captured her new man! Her job is not to save lives, she takes them - until now! Laney just got promoted from violent deaths to special operations! What the heck?! What's a reaper to do??? Go save her man, of course! Oh my! A reaper's work is never done! So many souls to claim but so little time! No spoilers from me but I will say this.....Handsome, hunky police detective-check! Beautiful, sexy Grimm Reaper who kicks butt, takes names and reaps souls-check! A cast of sexy characters-check! A hell gate and a demon from hell - literally! Action, adventure and suspense-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion and steamy, dreamy, hotter-than-haydees sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I loved it!

Longer than book one but I think you need to have book one read before reading this one.
Laney and Troy are still hot together and manage to get into a fair bit of trouble and strife in this action packed adventure.

Interesting view of the Reaper

The police officer & the Reaper are quite the couple. Especially in a town where the different is normal. This is the first of this theme that I've read from Mina Carter. It took me a little bit to get into it but once I did I loved it!!

Enjoy!!

Whoa, as the story unfolded, I was more and more invested! It starts out where the previous book ended, but this time, as our characters try and keep the peace, a bigger problem emerges, until, the final showdown does not go as planned!

Short, fast-paced, and fun!

Dead Reaper Walking is the second book in the Liberty, Oakwood series, beginning right after book one ( The Reaper and the Cop ) left off. Pretty much everything you really need to know from book one is mentioned here--just enough so that you 1) can follow this story and 2) want to pick up the first book if you haven't already.

See the nefarious plan there? ;)

Laney Larson is a real kick-butt heroine. A reaper (violent deaths are her specialty--she calls herself "a final destination air hostess...but without the snazzy uniform, and more attitude") from a long line of reapers, she finds herself in Liberty because there's some suspicious supernatural activity going on in town that is above and beyond what a town in its location should have. The fact that there's also a super hot cop who somehow manages to see her when she's supposed to be shielded and makes her feel like a smexy gooddess? Deliciously distracting icing on a spooky paranormal cake.

Soon Laney's got personal problems (when exactly is the "right time" to tell the guy you're shagging that you separate people from their souls for a living?) on top of professional ones (her Grimm--the "fancy-sci-fi heads up display" that tells her where to go and what to do is disturbingly silent), and things are really starting to get strange in Liberty.

Because apparently there's at least three teenage girls in town who haven't learned their don't mess with the supernatural lesson from just about every teen horror flick out there, and they've drawn up something big and bad from the third level of hell. Oh, yeah--and it's looking like the closest hellmouth isn't eight miles away anymore, it's right below their feet.

What's a girl to do?

Well, if that girl's Laney, the answer is she's going to rescue her sexy-ass cop, save the town, and get a reaper upgrade while she's at it. Plus she'll manage to have lots of fun sexytimes in between gigs.

Mina Carver leaves the door wide open for future books (What exactly is a "seer", and what does that mean for Troy? What's going to happen the police captain?), and I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I have read several of Ms. Carter’s novelettes and novellas and she never ceases to amaze me. No matter the length of the work, I’ve always finished fully satisfied with whatever I read whether it be a contemporary romance or paranormal romance. Dead Reaper Walking is no different. Once again she has managed to pack what feels like a full-length novel’s worth of action and adventure into less than 100 pages.

As the sequel to The Reaper and the Cop, we are back in Liberty with Troy and Laney and she quickly learns that the werewolf she reaped the night before was just the tip of the iceberg. Liberty has demons and Laney has just been promoted from Violent Deaths to Special Operations, which means there won’t be any Reaper back-up coming to town and she’s on her own. With her promotion comes access to a whole new level of information and skills, neither of which help her during her first encounter with the demon. But when the demon takes Troy, all bets are off as Laney has to decide between her duty as a Reaper and her love for Troy. She also makes a startling discovery about herself that I didn’t see coming.

Again we are treated to the sassy snark that is Laney and she certainly provided a tension-easing laugh when things got too heavy. Of course, Troy is just as sexy as before and, if possible, the chemistry between them is even more intense. Bathroom stall anyone? Dead Reaper Walking combines the right amount of paranormal elements, action, steamy sex, and romance and kept me engrossed from beginning to end. I’m looking forward to the next book in the Liberty, Oakwood series because I cannot wait to see what Ms. Carter has planned next for Laney and Troy.

This is the first story I have read from Mina Carter. This is the second book and I haven't read the first one yet, but plan to in the very near future. I have to admit that the characters are very entertaining. This is the first book I have read that involved a reaper who can talk to humans. The two lead characters are Laney Larson and Troy the hunky policeman had me laughing throughout the book.

Laney Larson is a reaper. Death to be exact. She looks human but is far from it. She fights demons and anything else that gets in her way. She is a smart mouthed girl who doesn't think before she does anything. Why should she, she is a reaper, isn't like she can die or anything. She ends up in Troys little city named Liberty, Oakwood and everything falls apart. Having to deal with a demon is nothing much but falling in love with a human is not something she should ever do but Troy and her fall for each other quick. She is to take the souls of the dead but when her love Troy may end up dead, she does something she should never do, try to save a life instead of taking one. Big no no in the reaper world.

Troy is a policeman who has seen some crazy crap but meeting a reaper was something new. Laney looked like a human but really wasn't and he wanted this girl badly. He is possessive over her and she fights it all the way. They are made for each other. The sex between them is hot and left me breathless and all I did was read the book. Laney acts tough but on the inside she is scared just like anyone would be. Troy wants to keep her safe but she isn't one to sit back and wait to be told what to do. She knows what needs to be done and she goes and does it!

Can't wait to read more from this author. I really liked these two characters. I am so happy I have a new book couple to look forward too.

The walking dead never looked so good!

And what a ways she has with her blades and bike! This was a fast paced, demon hunting trip to save Liberty. I love that the woman was the "hero" of the story unlike the normal man riding in on a white horse. This time our hero was a woman riding on a partially alive motorcycle. It also brought a few new sides of our heroine out that she wasn't aware of. I'll not ruin the surprise here, but just know I was as shocked as she! And now a bit about the story...

Laney is new to Liberty, Oakwood. Between rescuing herself from a werewolf and later killing him, she found Troy - the police office who she fell for quickly. Except in her line of work she usually ran from the law. So before the rest of his squad could get there, she split. Only to run into the next day after setting a few souls free... see Laney is a reaper. Though she doesn't kill people, she does set the dead's soul free. Can she really make it work with someone who is set on protecting people and saving every life possible? What's worse is a demon is headed to town and his threat may split them in two...

Favorite passages:
- Troy believed in respecting a woman. Treating her like a princess. But that didn’t mean it was all rainbows and unicorns.
- “Oh, it gets worse.” ... “Not the words I want to hear.” “Suck it up, buttercup.” I shrugged. [Laney says to the big bad Reilly - love the use of "buttercup" to describe the captain!]
- We were on a dude-in-distress, white knight rescue, horse not required. I opened the throttle and the town became a blur.

This is an action-packed read. There’s some loving, some fighting and some mysteries to be solved.
This is book two in a series. The first was called The Reaper and the Cop. I have not read the first one. It didn’t hurt my enjoyment of Reaper. The first would no doubt tell you how Laney met the sexy cop Troy Regan. In Reaper there is a reference that they met the night before. So the action here takes place right after the first book.
I believe at 86 pages this work is smack dab on the bubble for being a novelette or a novella. For those of you that are not that technical, just know that this is a short read that can be done in a couple of hours. The writer uses sentence fragments at times as part of Laney’s sharp, quick tone. That staccato style keeps the pace going. For some of the English teachers out there, it might cause them to bite their lip more than once. There are also some ‘F’ bombs and steamy sex scenes. With all that out of the way, I can say that it was a fun interesting story. It is a good mix of the paranormal, relationship between Laney and Troy, cop comradery, fighting scenes and helping folks that are in trouble. I had to chuckle at the relationship Laney has with her transportation. Nice blend and a smart story. Thumbs up for entertainment.
I was given a copy of the novel free in order to read and write an honest review.

Sit back, relax, dim your lights and prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride into the small town of Liberty. Teen witches, demons, and other paranormal creatures have made there way into the small town of Liberty. Can you imagine that the Dead Reaper Walking is a petite beautiful, curvy, sexy, sarcastic, woman named Laney. Laney can be sweet but when she unleashes the REAPER, blades and all she becomes a fearless anomaly that would make a linebacker cringe. Laney's not big on cars, she rides a supernatural motorbike bigger than a Harley that sports a personality of its own. Her sexy, Human cop boyfriend Troy weakens at the knees when she's around, but his alpha protective personality takes over when she puts herself in danger. Troy understands you can't kill a REAPER but also knows she can feel pain and bleed. Laney decides to work with the police to destroy the demons that are invading the town. When researching the town she finds that Liberty has a deadly secret. The love scenes are spontaneous and hotter than a burning volcano. Laney discovers she has a secret of her own. If you love paranormal you will enjoy this story from the first word. Enjoy the fantasy. Check out Mina's website to see other books. FIND OUT WHAT LANEY'S SECRET IS!!!!

Favorite Lines “I didn’t say dead, Troy. I said death. I am Death. A collector of souls. That’s why I was at the accident… I was there to send their souls to the afterlife.”

“Not in public, darling,” I drawled. “I’d hate to get arrested.”

“If it was my reaper duty or Troy, then he would win every time.”

“You need death to open the gate. And guess who controls death?”

Man.... This author has soared to they top of my I LOVE THIS AUTHOR LIST!!! Her writing is phenomenal, it pulls you in effortlessly and makes you devour every page and crave so much more!
Dead Reaper Walking was no deferent. How can you not love a book with a kick ass femal reaper and a sensual bad ass alpha cop!
Liberty, Oakwood has become paranormal central, which in turn mean a reaper has a lot of work to do! Demons are trying to open a portal to hell what they didn't expect was Death and her Cop to be there to stop her.

The chemistry between Lanie and Troy was electric. An alpha cop and death is bound to be explosive! Mina Carter did not disappoint! Need more of this amazing author!

Wow, not my first book by this author but definitely one of my favorites. Carter's unique world building ability will have you looking over your shoulder for reapers, demons and other paranormals. Although I had not read book 1 (The Reaper and the Cop), I had no difficulty following the story line. I found it to be fluid, smooth and engaging.

Laney has got to be by far the perfect heroine. At a time when most heroines are usually portrayed as weaker and dependent on their "mate" to protect them, Carter gives us Laney; a kick-ass reaper who does not need to be rescued... She does the rescuing. Dead Reaper Walking was a sort of coming to terms of who and what she really is for Laney. I absolutely loved that the main character that the story revolved around was a strong, independent woman. She rides a possessed Harley, kicks butt and makes no excuses for what she is! Even the secondary characters are worth making note of though.

Definitely a must read if you like your heroines to be out of the ordinary and take charge

Another amazing read from Mina Carter! This is the second book in this series and I haven't read the first one yet but you don't need too to read this one. But I will say that I am definitely going to read it now!

This one is full of action, snark, and so much fun! Also very, very sexy!

I love Troy and Laney. They play off each other really well. I found it very refreshing and fun that for once the female was the paranormal. Troy is a super hot alpha male type. But I love that he fell for Laney because she is such a bad ass. She can take care of herself. Laney is so much fun. I love her humor. She really can't help herself. Mina Carter never fails to make these amazing characters that I can't help but loving.

For a short story it was a lot of fun to read. I didn't feel like it was rushed or anything. I just wish it was longer! I definitely look forward to reading more in this series!

This is book 2 in the Liberty, Oakwood series. I really feel I needed to read book 1. It literally picks up where the other left off. (Or so I'm assuming based on the way the story reads). There are things I feel like would have enhanced the story if I had known.

Beyond that, the story is good. It's sexy, interesting and quite the twist on a paranormal romance. There aren't many good stories I've read with a Grim Reaper. Laney was witty and fun. I liked her Bad-Chick attitude. Troy I feel really rolled with the punches. And he was thrown quite a few. Though some parts felt like they were missing (again, I should have read the first book), the author does well explaining to you what the character is and what she's doing. I rather enjoyed the story and am looking forward to going back to read the first book. As with all of this authors books, when they get sexy, they get SEXY! I really liked it.

Original post on http://readingadd.blogspot.ro/

This was a good read for me, because I felt kinda slumpy today and I really needed something fresh, fast and good to read.

It’s not a huge/complexe book and you can read it really fast, is really enjoyable and you can relate to all the characters. If you are a lover of supernatural or just action packed, full of suspense, interesting books then this is for you. I don’t want to talk too much because this novel is short, doesn’t have a complex plot and I don’t want to spoil it.

But if you need something cute, steamy, fast and short, with romance in it and some kick-ass moves, then read it. But don’t read this if you want something more deep, complexe, with well developed characters and plot. You can read this more like a novella or a really short novel.

But keep in mind – it’s short, but doesn’t mean is not good. Happy reading!

I thought the book was well written, super intriguing with twists and turns and lots of action. The sex scenes were hot as hell, did I say I love these two characters together! Woud love to read more in this series and find put what happens next. Great writing, great characters. 4 -4.5 stars

Reaper Strikes Again

Mina Carter writes the best darn paranormal/romance stories ever! When I had finished reading The Cop and The. Reaper I was distraught at no sequel but then here it showed up and I am a happy camper! It was even better than the 1st, the intense heat building up between Troy, the cop, and Laney, the reaper, is just too good to miss!
The fact that she starts working with the police makes future sequels a shoe in (I hope)! Great other world creations too. Keep up the great work Mina, we love ya!

Excellent! The heroine is a Reaper--she sends the dead off to the afterlife. The hero is a cop. This is the second story. I hope a third story is coming, because I think there is more to the hero, and to his captain.
The Reaper is really neat. There is a great explanation of how it works.
She has to protect her hero and the whole town from a demon. She learns a lot about herself and about being a Reaper.

Wow I really enjoyed this book. The hot sex was phonemical.
If you like the paranormal you will like this book. I wondered if they would find a happy ending with her being paranormal and all. The characters had a lot of chemistry. The author wrote a very awesome book. I will have to check and see if she has any more of this type of book.
I give this book 5 stars.

This is the follow up to the hugely enjoyable The Reaper and the Cop. Another novella, which I finished in one reasonably short sitting. But you won't find this one lacking on humour or action. There's plenty of both.

And when a Demon takes her man, what can a girl do but channel a bit of her inner Death!

A fab read.

After readingbook 1 Reaper and the Cop, I raced to pick up book 2.
Mina Carter's writing is fantastic. Surprisingly she manages to make the whole concept of the Grim Reaper Fun, with a touch of menacing dark horror and gore.
Refreshingly different from any other paranormal book I've come across. I hope theres more to come from the town of Liberty & the Reaper Family.
