Alicia Carter and her son Desmond live in Ketron's Cove, a peaceful and isolated farming community near the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Having lost her husband seven months prior, Alicia hopes to keep her dream of a simple life in the country alive with the help of her friend and neighbor, Willard Hayes. But a darkness is set to corrupt the fertile land of Ketron's Cove, an evil which eyes Alicia and her child with murderous intent.
Wolf Donovan is a man who has already died once. A "protector" who comes to the aid of those besieged by supernatural forces, Wolf is guide by precognitive visions and an unwavering dedication to his mission. Now Wolf's visions are drawing him to Ketron's Cove, into a battle with dark forces and his own inner demons. And the fate of Alicia and her young son hang in the balance.
I was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a town nestled in the mountains of Appalachia. Which, by the way, is pronounced "apple-atcha", not "a-puh-lay-shua". My favorite TV shows as a kid were "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" and "Night Gallery" with Rod Serling. I was also drawn to books with larger-than-life heroes such as Doc Savage and Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane. I was (and still am) a big X-files fan, along with Lost, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead. I prefer horror and thrillers where there is a real, supernatural villain as opposed to psychological horror, and I try to incorporate such characters into my stories.
Having read a number of the McCoy stories, this one which is a spinoff, felt nicely familiar. Wolf Donovan, veteran of the war in Afghanistan and survivor of a deadly mugging in which he died but was revived, has an ability to sense when bad supernatural things are going to happen and it's become his job to fix them. In this book he deals with some mountain spirits and some some moments that look pretty grim.... I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would.
This is the first book with Wolf on his own, he has been in another one with McCoy. I love any book he has written, and I have read them all. I didn't like this one as much as the others, but it is still very good. This guy just doesn't have the personality to carry a book on his own, but it is still good. Maybe as the series progresses he will grow on me.
I love the way this author tells a story. Something about the way he writes just captures my attention like nothing else. I've read 3 of his books in the last 3 days! Could be because I've lived in Tennessee all my life and appreciate a good urban legend I guess but great read none the less!
I really like these books. Wolf Donavan is the hero in this one but Finn does give a little help. These books have just enough suspense for me without being nightmarishly scary.
Great novella. Nice storyline, both adult and y/ a will enjoy this. I would love another story from wolf. I have a new author with Scott Langrel, and will continue reading his books.
I love the Finn McCoy series and this is just as good. Sexy motorcycle hero, innocent mother and child, ghosts with life saving advice, spooks--what more could you ask for? Waiting anxiously for the next installment.
I love this story!! The main character Wolf, is like The Littlest Hobo (TV show), but in people form. Travelling around helping out people in danger. Great characters and very unique story. I'll definitely be back to read more when they are available.
I love all your books, especially the Finn McCoy series. I can't wait to see what happens to Pru. Your books keeps me on the edge of my seat, wondering what's next
