Raise your hand if you feel like there’s far too much sh*t you wanna get done and just not enough time to do it.
Getting Sh*t Done is for the people who can’t be helped, the people who’ve accepted they will never be perfect, and the people who are ready to attempt doing life a fraction better (and, most importantly, the ones who are up for having a laugh while trying).
In her first book, Roo breaks down everyday tasks into small, stackable habits, helping you not only survive, but thrive. You’ll find yourself getting the maximum done in the smallest time frame, from blitzing the bathroom within an inch of its life while your hair mask sets to decluttering your cupboard while your fake tan marinates.
Roo shares her cleaning cupboard essentials, half-arse hacks, hen-do and hosting top tips and the ultimate one-hour speed-clean guide so you'll be empowered to conquer your to-do list and have the time and mental space to focus more on the things you actually want to do.
Getting Sh*t Done will help you realise that the teeniest of tiniest daily changes can lead to achieving bigger life goals and a significantly more manageable day-to-day life.
So get cosy, grab a snack (or a cocktail), and let’s get stuck in…
It’s me, hi! I wrote this book so obviously It gets 5 stars from me because I am just so bloody proud of myself and can’t believe I did that!!
I really just wrote this from the heart and poured all of my thoughts and feelings on getting sh*t done as a type b chaotic girlie into it. I was told giggles alone wouldn’t be enough for a book so I created a mega easy to follow structure starting with bare minimum sh*t to truly getting sh*t done - and I hope you find it helpful! P.s. I will die on the hill that giggles make the world go around so I hope it makes you laugh too!
I will be lurking here and crying at any bad reviews soo really hope you love it 😃
A book about productivity (more specifically habit stacking, rewarding yourself, and prioritisation) that's accessible and entertaining AND it makes me feel genuinely more optimistic and excited for life in general?? Honestly slay
Roo likes to get her shit done, often by doubling up on tasks, a.k.a. killing two birds with one stone. So many birds will be/have been killed with the stone that is this book, and that is a truly spectacular feat. Highly recommend the audiobook. Congrats to Roo for this amazing achievement!
I've been following Roo for a while now, and I still have the video saved from when she first announced she was writing this book. I’ve never pre-ordered a book so quickly! Roo makes cleaning genuinely fun and exciting—whether she’s tidying up her iconic pink kitchen or now sharing her new home (with a baby on the way—congratulations!).
It's been amazing to watch this book come to life, and now hearing it in Roo’s own voice makes it even better. Her narration brings her signature energy and personality, making the whole experience feel personal and engaging. The advice is practical and helpful, but she adds such a fun twist to it all! Great book!
I love Roo’s content online but this book was just not the one for me unfortunately - included a lot of random sections about hangovers and holiday packing, which in a productivity book just felt confusing? Also a weird mix of personal vamping that didn’t feel cohesive with the content of the chapters. Just didn’t really enjoy, but potentially because I listened on audiobook so the lists were pretty useless.
After such a bad spout of DNFS and reading slumps, this was such a fun, light-hearted and entertaining read! I love Roo and her content a lot so knew this wouldn’t disappoint and I’m so glad I was right. Learning tips and tricks to boost my productivity and daily motivation is so useful, but I also enjoyed her chats about all things cleaning products, self care and books!!!!
I have been a fan of Roo’s for a while online and her debut book certainly does not disappoint either! It’s filled with great advice, wholesome vibes and a giggle or two as well. Thank you Roo - your book has been like a nice (and aim to be very productive) warm hug.
I've been listening to this on Audible over the past few days, and while I haven’t quite finished it yet, I already can’t recommend it enough. I’ve been a quiet fan of Roo for a hot minute now—her videos never fail to make me smile or let out a cheeky little laugh, and this book is no different.
She shares fabulously helpful tips and tricks on everything from cleaning to self-care, rewards to organisation, all served with a steaming hot slice of reassurance that it’s cool and groovy to do things half-assed sometimes. As a fellow chronic bed rotter, book sl*t with a potty mouth, the way Roo writes and narrates her book is bloody stunning.
As an anxious girly, this book has become a real source of comfort. Whenever an anxious thoughts pops in my head, I slap this on Audible and it helps to scrub the pickle that I’m having away. I cannot congratulate Roo enough, this book is a true testament to your GAWJUS character - hope there’s more!
I’m a long-time follower of Roo’s and went straight to preorder when I found out she was publishing a book back in February! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and loved that her personality shone through on every page.
From what we see on social media, this book is authentically Roo and you can tell how much passion went into it. It felt like following a journey with a friend and was a wholesome reminder of the importance of balance. It made for relaxing reading, which I finished across three sittings, and Roo should be super proud to have produced this alongside her other massive life changes!
Har aldrig tidigare läst en ”influencer” ELLER ens en selfhelp bok, men den här var fantastisk motiverande och mår bra efter att ha läst den? Coolt! Fin, snäll, förstående!
I enjoy Roo’s cleaning content on IG and her voiceovers so was looking forward to the audiobook. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, but entertaining and motivating to listen to while I got some chores done.
‘I'm a huge believer that doing the bare minimum is infinitely better than doing nothing at all, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with half-arsing your way through a task sometimes.’
Declutter or die. Scrub-a-doodle-doo and the classic Zoom zoom b*tches. All our favourite Roo wisdoms are here and plenty more. Her voice in my head whilst reading this was so clear from the hours of watching her voiceover videos, it’s done dividends. Liked her lists of favourites and brands, including her book ratings out of ten.
This book is brilliant motivation and the kick up the arse we all need. And yet it’s relatable and realistic that not every day will you have all the energy to inject into tasks. Great book, enjoyable read.
I didn't intend to read two habit building books back to back, but if Roo is yappin', I'm listening!
Roo is the big sister we all need. Her honesty and humor add a different touch to this genre which I absolutely love. I also love that it's not a *motivation* book. It's a practical book. It's a "hey this is what works for me. Give it a go?" And it incorporates many of the different parts of her content we have come to love.
Easy, quick, fun listen! Like listening to a podcast. Cants wait to have the physical book (which is GORG) on my shelf!
I really loved the pace of this book, being a follower of Roo on TikTok for a good few years now it was as if she was reading some of her catchphrases to me! I found it a little repetitive in places but nonetheless a quick and enjoyable read. Definitely picked up some cleaning tips, plus a refresh of habit stacking since reading Atomic Habits last year.
The only thing missing for me was 0 mention of the scrub daddy on the favs list despite being multiple illustrations.
Also…..I absolutely love the finish of the hardback!
Did I listen to a book about cleaning and productivity whilst cleaning…yes. Actually really loved it, learned some GORGEOUS lazy cleaning hacks and habits which have made my clean freak heart happy. Also was quite funny so honestly was a great listen/cleaning sesh!
I really love Roo’s content on insta so was keen to pick this up and see what tips I could get for genuinely getting shit done (mainly cleaning). this was a great place to start and easily digestible. I will agree that some of the content and lists seemed questionable in a self help book but very relatable and true to Roo’s content online.
Not me listening to this on 1.2x because I’m so used to listening to Roo’s voiceovers on instagram😆 it felt weird on 1x That aside, some great tips written in such a relatable way! Deffo recommend listening to this! I will be buying the physical book to refer back to 😏
I've been following Roo on Instagram for a long time now and find her chaotic voiceovers on her videos entertaining so I listened to the audiobook on Spotify.
Roo was her usual self from her videos but I found the content just...fine.
I didn't need a full list of what makeup products she uses for going Out Out or supplies for a Paint n Sip party. There were many lists, including a board game list for a board game night.......
Thank you to Ebury Publishing, Penguin Random House, the author and NetGalley for a digital ARC in return for an honest review
This was an unexpected joy! I have to admit I had never heard of Roo Day before I requested this book (I know, sorry) but now that I know she is a wonderfully funny, quirky, master of getting sh*t done, I will definitely be subscribing to her @homewithroo account on Instagram. She offers a fun, light-hearted approach to the everyday tasks that many of us find mundane and boring.
I requested the digital version of this book, but it was practically unreadable on the NetGalley reader. For some reason as you swiped to the next page and inadvertently swiped slightly upwards the whole page would wobble and disappear off the top of the screen. This being very irritating I downloaded it to my Kindle which worked perfectly. I also downloaded the audiobook version and noted that the author sometimes, as an added bonus, added extra sentences here and there that were not shown on the ebook. The digital version however, did have very handy interactive spaces for making notes, to-do lists, highlight key sections and bookmark sections for quick reference. Also the added bonus of 'Things my cat wrote' was genius!
I love it when authors narrate their own books and actually have the voice to make it a captivating experience. There is nothing worse than opening a much longed for audiobook to find that the narrator has a boring monotone voice that makes you want to DNF. Roo writes and speaks the way real people actually speak — swearing, laughing, and not pretending to have it all together thus creating a sense of trust and relatability that’s missing from other polished, often unattainable standards of many lifestyle influencers content.
This is Roo's debut novel, I hope there are more 📚🤞🏼
If you have been procrastinating with your household tasks, read this book without delay...preferably as an audiobook so you can obviously multi-task and habit-stack to your hearts content!
As Mark Twain once said...“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”
Roo's channel is the only "cleanfluenster account" I follow, and I think as a content creator she is amusing, creative, and just seems like a genuinely nice person. Therefore, I really wanted to like this book!
The unfortunate reality, however, is the content doesn't really differ much from the 60 seconds videos, and therefore makes any attempts to distinguish it, futile. The main challenge is that the book shifts from attempts to provide basic tips and trick, to very much 'hey, I'm Roo, and here is my make up routine'. I appreciate that the learning she is trying to share is her own, but it does not translate well to the general population (allegedly, her audience?), because of the limited narration (e.g. step 1, open the washing machine, step 2 clean the filer, step 3 rinse, step 4 etc.), BUT also because it fails to address how different her life is from those of others who most likely will have to fit these tips and tricks alongside a full-time job, or two, childcare, looking after poorly relatives, etc. Roo seems to have some awareness of this, but translating the tips, tricks, and skills is just missing, and the overall return to 'small steps, half-arse it, have a treat' whilst well-meaning, appears patronising and unhelpful.
Whilst critical, I think an honest review is important; the issue for me is that this is branded as self-help for those who are desperately trying to get on top of their lives. The book runs the risk of overwhelming people who really do struggle, people with depression, even impact those perfectionists who are trying to reassure themselves of the good enough daily by creating an illusion of what getting shit done means, and how easy it is.
Looking through the reviews, however, it seems the majority of readers are already fans of Roo, which is great. For me especially the audiobook did serve the purpose of introducing me to Roo and her daily life in more detail, and that's not a bad thing (listening to her jokes/classic banter was a low-effort activity alongside my runs so here, I can habit stack!). But self-help, it is not.
How did this book feel like a warm, validating hug?!
Roo’s quirky, funny and comforting writing style immediately hits you and makes you feel at home in the pages. Whether you’re a productive clean queen (or most likely not, as all us ‘wanting to do the bare minimum for max results’ pick this book up in hopes to learn a thing or two), it’s a perfect read for everyone.
I got this as an ebook but will most definitely be wanting this as a physical copy too. It was such a quick hit of no-nonsense fun, advice and chat, it was so easy to read. It honestly felt more like rocking up with a friend and a couple of drinks, sitting down for a laid back chat whilst they impart some knowledge bombs on you.
And of course, I did take away things from this book too (how was I not aware of Habit Stacking?!) but also left with a smile. Which is all you could ask for and more.
If you’re not following Roo already, do eeet. I’ve been following her for a while and she never fails to add a bright spark into the Instagram space, which can be full of perfect influencers that left you feel less than adequate. She doesn’t, she builds you up and she transfers this expertly over to her book too. A definite recommend!
Thank you to the author and publisher for this book on NetGalley in return for my honest thoughts and review.
I am the most unmotivated person out there, and I’ve been following Roo on Insta for a few months now, and of course watching her makes me want to be motivated… but my laziness ultimately wins out. When she announced she was writing this book, I was excited because I wanted to know just what her secrets were to doing what the title says, and that is getting shit done. I took my time reading it, and whilst some tips and tricks held no interest to me, there were actually more tips than not that motivated me to get my ass up and get shit done. The writing felt like you were listening to a friend give you advice, and there were some moments where I could relate to what was being said on a personal level. Overall, it was an enjoyable and very motivating self-help book. Some words of advice given I will definitely be implementing into my own life, and I will definitely be revisiting this book again when I find myself lacking that motivation to getting my stuff sorted.
What a book! As someone with ADHD, I often tread carefully around self-help books, as they do have the tendency to make you feel like you're a bit of a hopeless case. This one however! As I had already been a fan of Roo on social media (running around for an hour to RUSH through cleaning while being told it's A-OK to half-ass it is DEFINITELY my way of doing things -- whenever I get that one energy boost of the day or week -- personally), I was excited and optimistic for this book to be different, and it is.
The book truly drives the point home that it's ok to half-ass the little things to make sure you can whole-ass the things you deem important in your life, personally. It does so while being hilarious about it, and motivating you the whole way through, both through words and through tips for rewards you can give yourself :-)
Much love and appreciation to Roo for sending this book out into the world! It actually really did change my perspective on half-assing really being OK.
I love watching Roo's videos about cleaning and days in her life on social media, so I had to buy her book to see how it was. I got the audiobook because I love her voiceovers and wanted to listen or it while doing housework.
I loved the fact that it was like listening to a friend give a no-nonsense yet encouraging pep talk for life. Roo injected lots of fun and humour into this book, and filled it with her trademark sayings. She talks about habit stacking and productivity as well as a few other tips for life.
Though I enjoyed the book overall, I did wish it was a little longer and had more substance... Some of the tips were a bit basic, and there were lots of lists thrown in that seemed overly long and a bit random (eh how to take an. everything shower, step by step). I would also have liked to have seen some advice on how to get your shit together in various scenarios (eg if disabled/depressed/etc).
