L.G. Davis brought all the twisted, evil, wicked drama here and I ate it up like caramel popcorn on Halloween...

😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋🍿😋

The New Nanny follows Christa, who has accepted a nanny position for the Mayer family. The post includes looking after their teen son, Wyatt, and some light housework duties, cooking and cleaning for the family.

The pay is great, she'll get some free-time, and Christa has a special interest in this particular child. The catch is, she has move to a remote mountain village in Austria to take it.

It's an easy decision for Christa and before she knows it, she's there, settling into the Mayer's lavish home.

Christa quickly notes that the family dynamic is a little off. The mom, Robin, whose perspective we also get at times, seems emotionally troubled, and she has very strict and specific rules for Wyatt, such as he isn't supposed to leave the house. The Dad, for his part, is rarely present.

Christa is uncomfortable with the Mayer's treatment of their son. They hardly interact with him at all. Christa is determined to shower this boy with all the love he needs.

Christa was already a bit on edge around the Mayers, but then she hears the rumors about the disappearance of their last nanny. Could these people actually be dangerous?

It's a race against time to figure out the truth about the Mayer family. Are Christa and Wyatt in danger? Christa needs to get to the bottom of this years old disappearance and get herself and Wyatt to safety, if need be.

With the help of a new friend, Christa digs in, risking everything to get the truth. Hold on to your hats because, oh baby, does this get intense. Talk about a nail biter!

I had so much fun reading this. It's wildly entertaining and I found L.G. Davis's writing style to be engaging and addictive. In fact, I had so much fun with it, I purchased a copy of the second book immediately upon finishing this.

I wasn't done with these characters, or Davis's fun, fast-paced, intriguing plots. There's no way I was waiting to get more of Christa's story. It would feel like abandoning a friend if I were to leave her now!

This was one of those types of stories where you get way more invested than you anticipated you would. I was getting so into it, yelling at the characters, shaking my head, telling my dog all about it.

This seriously surprised me. It was such a delight to read; pure fun. Sometimes you just need this type of engaging, OTT-Popcorn Thriller. It's not perfect, but who cares? Seriously, when you're having this much fun, who cares?

Thank you to the publisher, Bookouture, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I am looking forward to following L.G. Davis's work from here on out. I'm a fan!

'some things can be forgiven, but they can never be forgotten. And some actions can never be undone'.

Christa was just a teenager when, deemed an unfit mother, her baby boy is wrenched away from her. Years later, after finally finding Wyatt, she's determined to be in his life. Feigning nanny experience Christa accompanies Wyatt's adoptive family, the Mayers, to Austria to look after him for the summer. Life has suddenly become a whole lot better. Christa disregards Robin Mayer's mood swings and strict rules prohibiting Wyatt to leave the house. She can overlook the fact that Paul Mayer never seems to be around but resents her when he is. And she's more than happy to engage with silent, withdrawn Wyatt - after all, that's why she is here. However, Wyatt was also the reason the last nanny was here, Christa discovers she actually disappeared without a trace. In a strange country, living with strangers, just who can she trust and how can she protect her son?

L.G Davis has packed many twists and turns into a relatively short book. Your presumptions are constantly challenged, as snippets of new information are revealed. I enjoyed reading this story and it's certainly been well set up for the next instalment.

“People say that revenge is a dish best enjoyed cold, but I prefer to serve mine piping hot.”

L.G. Davis has tapped into our fears and anxieties about the person we trust most with our children - the nanny.

Christa Rogers takes a job in a remote Austrian village as a nanny for an impossibly wealthy and emotionally distant family thinking that she’s found the answer - a ‘way in’ to a better life. What she discovers, instead, is that she’s unknowingly walked into a world of deception and dark secrets. This cooly manipulative family, the Mayers, may be the wealthiest family in town, but it’s the power that they’ve amassed as a result of their wine empire and various bars and restaurants across the country, that is worrisome. Paul and his wife, Robin, hire Christa as a family assistant, combining care of their 15-year-old son, Wyatt, with housemaid responsibilities. It doesn’t take the new nanny long to discover that this family is very different.

This mesmerizing story showcases Davis’ ability to combine a compulsively readable domestic suspense with delicious twists, shocking turns and dark secrets. I was in awe of her ability to manipulate my assumptions! I sat back and relaxed thinking I knew how this was going to turn out because it appeared Davis had shown me her hand - revealed her motives, history and relationships. My bad. Warning: assume nothing.

Davis deftly crafts the illusions of a happy family life and then, with one sweep, allows us to peer behind the veneer of perfection. I was shocked because I wasn’t expecting the degree of ‘imperfection.’

Davis contrasts love and grief extremely well. Her focus on the mother relationship heightens our emotions, only to increase the load by showing us how it feels to lose someone we love. She gives readers reminders to “make peace with the past, to live knowing that “we can’t turn back the clock,” and that “giving up is not an option.” Her theme of being lost permeates this chic noir which blends horrifying secrets, toxic relationships and the possibility of murder.

This twisty psychological suspense about motherhood, obsession and just how far some will go for the perfect family needs to grace your night table!

*Do yourself a BIG favor and DON’T read the synopsis. Go into it blind. I did and it made ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

My Rating: 4. 2 Stars

Christa Rodgers is thirty-three when she accepts a summer job with the Mayer’s at their villa in Salzburg, Austria as the family assistant as well as caring for their fifteen year old son Wyatt.
Needless to say Robin and Paul Mayer are wealthy and powerful.

While Christa is getting to know Wyatt, she gets a message to be careful.
She it told that the previous nanny went missing seven years ago and although everyone was questioned is seems the Mayer’s might have secrets and had something to do with her disappearance.
However, Christa stated that she studies child psychology but decided she really did not want to go into that field but preferred working and caring for children as a nanny.
Hmmm does Christa have her own secrets?

This turned out so much better than expected. It truly was a page turner!
The ending left me wanting to read more from Liz Davis! In fact, I immediately put "The Nanny’s Child" - Book #2 in ‘The Lies we Tell series on my TBR list!

I would like to thank L.G Davis, NetGalley, and Bookouture an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Christa moves to Austria for a new live in nanny position. She is there for a sole purpose that her employers know nothing about. Wyatt, their 15 year old son lives in the home along with his adoptive parents, Robin and Paul Mayer. Everyone in the household is strange to say the least. It appears not one of them wants to be around the other. Christa finds this very odd. While getting to know Wyatt, she starts to become leary of the Mayers and the secrets they keep.

I could not put this book down! I flew through the pages finding twists and turns. I enjoyed each chapter being left with a cliffhanger. Unfortunately, I felt the ending to be a little rushed. If you're a fan of Freida McFadden and Daniel Hurst, this one's for you.

So many nanny books, so little time.

This thriller lacked thrills.

The book was predictable with waaay too many eye-rolling moments.

I listened to the audiobook read by Kate Handford.

The narration was good but not great.

I will not be listening to "The Lies We Tell" Book 2.

5☆ A Gripping and Twisty Thriller

Wow what a book!
Reading the Blurb you think you know what your about to read. To an extent you do.
But then the lil snippets that something isn't right, the secrets start to emerge, the twists come and catch you off guard. Who do you trust, is what your reading the truth, and when it gets to about half way through the tension ramps up even more!

It was such a gritty, at times tense, yet very gripping read, I devoured it in 2 nights. Something I've not done in ages.

There are some sensitive subjects within the book, miscarriage, adoption, but they are relevant to the story, but may be a trigger for some readers.

There is a book 2 and although it ends on sort of cliffhanger it does sum up the first book. But it definitely leaves you wanting more!
I'm super excited to dive straight in. It's already on my kindle waiting!

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

The New Nanny (The Lies We Tell Book 1)
by L.G. Davis
Pub Date: 11 Sep 2023
Bookouture
General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
Rating: 3.75/5

L. G. Davis' The New Nanny has secrets, and everyone hides them. From the moment the story began, I knew I was in for an emotional roller-coaster ride as I followed the characters on their journey. I was captivated by the myriad of deceptions revealed. The suspense and anticipation of what would come next kept me enthralled throughout the chapters. The conclusion was shocking, and truly highlighted L.G. Davis' talent for crafting an unforgettable story.

Christa accepts a job with the Mayer household in Austria to care for Wyatt, 15, for the summer. Her arrival at their home is just the beginning of a series of mysterious and daring events that test the limits of Christa's employment. Wyatt's mother, Robin, does not want him to leave the house, and even frowns at Christa stepping out. Despite Robin's strict rules, Christa is determined to explore Austria and slowly win Robin's trust by proving her responsibility and reliability. However, Robin's reluctance to let Wyatt out of the home remains a mystery. Robin insists that locals gossip a lot and says it is prudent to avoid them. It is only when Christa finds out that the former nanny has disappeared that she suspects something is amiss.

Thank you NetGalley, L.G. Davis and Bookouture for sharing this book with me. Your kindness is appreciated. I always look forward to reading and enjoying Davis' upcoming releases, and this one was no exception.

Go into this blind...do not read the blurb as the only twist was one I luckily missed by not reading the blurb. And it was very good! It was a very fast paced read and i enjoyed it, however it ended way too quickly. I felt everything was too tied up and while a quick fast paced read needed a bit more depth after the twist.

The Lies We Tell #1

My sweet little boy was taken from me. There are dark secrets in my past that will stop me from ever getting Wyatt back, but now I'm his nanny, I'll finally get to raise him like he's my own.
when I arrive at the Mayers' house, I'm stunned by the striking glass family home and Robin and Paul's lavish lifestyle, which I couldn't afford in my wildest dreams. But Wyatt seems troubles. Robin claims he needs therapy, she says he barely speaks to her, and soon I realise that he's barely allowed to leave the house....

Christa gets a job as a Nanny to fifteen-year-old Wyatt. His parents, Robin and Paul, virtually ignore him. He's not allowed to leave the house or have any friends. I was hooked from the first page.
we learn early on that Christa is Wyatt's biological mother. This is a descriptively written story. The characters are well developed. Everyone has secrets and I did not trust any of them. With many twists along the way, I was surprised at the ending but not shocked. Now, off I go to read the next installment - The Nanny's Child.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #LGDavis for my ARC of #TheNewNanny in exchange for an honest review.

Christa accepts a summer job as a live in nanny, in Austria to a very wealthy family, who need help with their son who is fifteen.

The mother Robyn does not want her son going out and is also not keen on Christa mixing with the locals. Christa soon realises this is not your average family. What secrets are they hiding?

As the story develops we discover Christa has her own reason for picking this particular family.

I really enjoyed the pace of this book, it had a good balance of twists and a few red herrings which kept me guessing.

Before writing my review, I want to thank NetGalley, L. G. Davis, and Bookouture for gifting me the ARC of THE NEW NANNY! It was such a privilege to read this before publication. And I appreciate you trusting me with an honest review!

This was my first book from L. G. Davis and I enjoyed it so much!! I do like her writing style and the beautiful picture her words painted of Austria! The alternating Povs between Christa and Robin worked so well to help build the suspense, especially as you grew closer to the ending. The addition of Robin’s diary entries was a brilliant way to shed light on the past, while adding to the mystery. Admittedly, the book was a slow burn, but once the drama intensified about midway through, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

The characters, especially our protagonist, Christa, and teen Wyatt, were very well developed. The evolution of their relationship is written very well and believably by L. G. Davis. The novel offered the reader more than one twist, and that final one was so unexpected and oh so brilliant!

Overall, this was an enjoyable, intense read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery that keeps you guessing! I’ve also learned that a sequel to THE NEW NANNY is expected soon, and I cannot wait to see where the continuation of the story takes us!

Page-turner alert!

The synopsis lets us know that Christa is looking for her son, Wyatt. She got pregnant with him as a teenager, and gave him up for adoption. She’s been searching for him for years, and with social media, she found him. Better still, his adoptive parents are looking for a nanny/housekeeper for a summer in Austria.

Paul and Robin adopted Wyatt, but years later, Robin suffered a miscarriage of the biological child they didn’t know they could have. They’ve come from the United States to Austria to help Paul’s mother, who is dying, and Robin is such a mess that she needs help with watching Wyatt - despite him being fifteen.

With a fudged resume, Christa gets the job and heads to Austria to be with her son. She soon notices that the bright, funny boy she’s getting to know is terrified of his adoptive parents. She also realizes he isn’t allowed out of the house, and that it’s highly discouraged for her to leave as well. The town is small, and there are rumors - rumors that Robin prefer Christa not hear.

Despite that, Christa does occasionally venture into town, where she meets James - a German teacher. Using Paul and Robin’s desire for Wyatt to learn the language, Christa finally has a way to get him out of the house a couple times a week. She also starts a little romance with James in the process. She tells him the truth about her being Wyatt’s biological mother, and he tells her what the rumors are about…

This was completely implausible, but I wouldn’t put it in the popcorn thriller category. Despite the implausibility, this was quite suspenseful. I knew that I had figured out the ending about halfway through, but it was only a fragment of the ending that I guessed. The final chapters were full of twists and turns, lots of reveals, and a conclusion for the characters. This looks like the first of a series, and I’ll be sure to check out the next one. Overall, this was quite well done - four stars!

(Thank you to Bookouture, L.G. Davis, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on September 11, 2023.)

This one took me way longer to read than I would have liked but life got in the way. Otherwise I would have devoured it in one sitting! While I will say this one did take a little bit of time to pick up speed I wasn’t bored by any means. Davis did a good job with setting the story up in a way that left you wanting more. Just when I thought I had things all figured out I would be completely wrong but in the best of ways.

I’ll be honest I usually bounce around with what I read & very rarely do I read series back to back but let me tell you, I enjoyed this book so much I’ve immediately moved the second book to the top of my list. While this book doesn’t stop on a crazy cliff hanger, I like the characters so much that I just NEED to know what happens next.

I’ve seen other people refer to Davis’ writing to be a lot like Freida Mcfadden & they’re definitely right. So if you enjoy books with lots of twists that keep you guessing this one is for you!

A huge thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of The New Nanny by LG Davis in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed how quick of a read this was, but that’s pretty much all I enjoyed, unfortunately. The dialogue wasn’t realistic and there was a lot of telling, instead of showing with the plot. The storyline was also very predictable.

But if you’re new to thrillers, or just looking for a quick read, you may enjoy this. I seem to be in the minority on my rating- I think I just didn’t connect with the writing style. Normally, I really enjoy Bookouture thrillers, so even though this book was a miss for me, I’m still looking forward to reading more titles through this publisher.

The first chapters of this book reminds me of The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. But then I got bored before I was halfway through and it just didn't hit the same as The Housemaid. I didn't connect to all the characters too. The plot is kind of meh and I think Christa being with James felt a bit random. Maybe they could just be friends instead.

I also think the reveal feels anti-climatic and that the ending is a bit rushed too.

Character List spoiler free

Christa, the new nanny, works for the Mayers. She punishes herself with cold showers, scrubbing her skin raw, and wakes up every day at 5.05 a.m., all to atone for something in the past.

Robin Mayer, Christa’s employer, she’s very aloof and withdrawn. Suffered a recent loss. She has deep brown eyes like treacle. Her skin is too pale but glossy raven hair, almost ethereal, that cascades around her shoulders, tips highlighted gold.

Paul Mayer, dark gray eyes like steel. Balding, stocky, with a scowl that rarely leaves his face wears. He is Robin’s husband and Wyatt’s father

Wyatt Mayer, son of Robin and Paul and Christa’s charge. He has amber eyes and honey-blond curls. He’s a teenager, he’s disconnected from his parents, and can’t be himself around them

James, a Handsome stranger, 5 years older than Christa.

Eva – the missing nanny with a lot of secrets

Well well well, I was NOT expecting that, until I was expecting that! A story that doesn’t relent and gosh I questioned everyone, even the person it was! I bought the audiobook because I knew I wouldn’t have time to sit and read it and I blasted the audiobook almost in one sitting! I was obsessed with this book.

A small setting, almost claustrophobic but in such a gorgeous setting of Austria, we have mysteries to solve so don’t get too comfortable! People don’t want to talk to you, you aren’t allowed to leave the house and someone seems a little too eager to befriend you. What do you do…or think!? Oh, so many things!

I can’t wait to read the next part of this series! I know if it is anything like this I am going to be blown away. This book completely threw me the wringer, 110% I was shocked and how dark this book turned and how quickly too! So many threads in the story and some are red herrings and others play a big part!

Oh so much I want to tell you but I really can’t. It’s a secret 😉 You need to read this book. I seriously found this so addictive and so awesome! It is a book that will haunt you until you finish it.

3.5✨ Interesante.

The New Nanny
By: L. G. Davis
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fast- paced thriller about a lady who becomes a nanny. Christa has done everything to prepare for this job as a baby which she believes will have her caring for the son Wyatt she thought was dead.

Sadly his parents do not pay attention to him and he is withdrawn. Wyatt is not allowed to go into town or have anyone over. He is very isolated and at the age of 15 that is difficult. As Christa draws Wyatt out of his shell he warms up to her.

Adding to the story is their former nanny is missing and the towns people think the parents had something to do with her disappearance.

When she shares her secret, all he$$ breaks loose. I was excited to see there is another novel called The Nanny’s Child and will read this one soon.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this advanced copy out of Sept.

Tiene el suspenso garantizado, se lee rápido. Personajes bien delineados y giros inesperados. El final no me ha dejado del todo satisfecha y algunas cositas no me agradaron . Pero se disfruta!

The New Nanny will have you rushing through the pages to get to the final conclusion where you will be stunned.
A tale that will keep you up late at night.
Christa arrives in Austria to start her new position as a nanny to a wealthy family.
Robin and Paul Mayer are parents to Wyatt and need help.
But Christa lied to get the job, she faked her CV.
Why?……….because Wyatt is Christa’s son.
He was taken from her.
Now she has come to get him back.
They are all holding secrets, withholding truths and lying about what happened to the previous nanny.
Who do you trust…..
This grabbed me and didn’t let go.
Tension filled, creepy feels, surprising twists and a whole lot of entertainment.
And the story doesn’t end here.
I’m going straight into the sequel…..

Christa, a nanny, is hired to help a new family and care for their son Wyatt. Soon it becomes clear that Wyatt is troubled and the family are possibly more dangerous than they first appear. Finally she learns she wasn’t the first nanny…

This was an enjoyable read which becomes fairly fast paced and has an interesting plot. I enjoyed the twisty narrative and constant guessing at where the story was going. I did predict most of the twists so there were no massive surprises for me but this didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. I think that the blurb possibly gives too much away.

Some of Christa’s actions annoyed me a bit but the characters are written well. The ending is quite sudden but I’m pleased to see there is a second book in this series which should hopefully wrap it up nicely. Overall a good read. 3.5 stars. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this copy in return for an honest review.
