Fierce Family: Greenview Manor Tales, Book 1

Single mum falls for the local fire chief—it all sounds so simple until it isn't.

Juggling two teenage boys and being the General Manager at the top hotel in the area keeps me busy. The last thing I need is the persistent and charming fire chief on my tail. I can't help but be drawn to him, though. Just when I start thinking it might work out, my worst fear becomes a reality.

One thing's for sure, no one gets my heart racing like the fiery redhead. But when I find "the one," I won't let her slip away easily. Chasing after her and proving that it's worth giving us a shot feels natural. Even if it means putting everything on the line for her and her family.

About the author

Dani Elias

46 books252 followers
Dani Elias writes swoony, steamy British romance about women in their forties who are very good at some parts of life and quietly unravelling in others. Her FMCs are relatable, flawed, funny, and fully human. Some are plus size, some are not, but all of them are centred, desired, and allowed to take up space in their own love stories.

Set mostly in small towns, with the occasional city romcom, Dani’s books are written in British English and focus on emotional connection, lived-in chemistry, and intimacy that deepens the relationship rather than dominating it. Her heroes are usually golden retriever cinnamon rolls with a side of nerdy dorkiness, because frankly, that’s the dream.

Based in Carlisle (UK), Dani writes romances for readers who want grown up love, real bodies, real feelings, and proof that happily ever after does not come with an age limit.

Fierce Family by Dani Elias

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 - 4.5/5 Stars
🌶️🌶️🌶️ - 3/5 Spice

I really enjoyed seeing some of the familiar places and faces from Fellside, what a treat! This book is SO cute and binge worthy. Loved my whole time reading it. Absolutely adored Shiela and her boys. And for Josh who doesn’t love a great sexy firefighter. These two are CONSTANTLY drawn to one another, but will Shiela eventually follow her heart and be with the person she may not be able to live without?

Another trip back to Fellside and I couldn't be happier. It is now time for Sheila and Josh's story. Who doesn't love a sexy fire fighter?! 🔥🥵🫠
One of my favorite things about this story is that the characters are both in their early 40's and that Sheila is a mom. I don't often focus too much on details of my life playing out in books, but it is nice to relate to characters. That being said, the same things that made me relate to her, also broke my heart. As a mom, parts of this story were rough on my heart at moments 💔. So, check your triggers friends. And also, don't worry because Josh will be there to get you through it 😉.... Again, sexy fire fighter!

Fierce Family is my first book by Dani Elias and it won’t be my last. Fierce Family was such a cute and quick read.

Sheila is a divorced single mom with two teenage boys. She is raising them with her ex husband and his boyfriend. Who are supportive but live a couple hours away. She hasn’t had a relationship in 9 years.

Josh the fire captain is so drawn to Shelia, he falls first and falls hard. However, he never oversteps the relationship with her kids. He is there to support and be a solid figure in their lives and I loved that.

When tragedy almost strikes, my heart was in my throat! The way Josh steps up says everything about his love for Sheila and the boys.

Anyone who is a mom of teenagers, loves a good romance with a little heat this book is for you! I can’t wait to read more books by @dani_elias_books

Always love reading a Dani Elias book, and these two were no exception. Both divorced, her a single mum, I know love European authors lingo, and him just single. He and his firefighters have been called multiple times to the hotel she manages, and they always have their flirty back and forth. Neither act on it, until one day her youngest baby boy is at the firehouse for scouts, and he has an accident that throws these two together outside of the professional manner they are used to. So, that little struggle to stay arms length kinda goes bye bye.

A safe read, with a refreshing couple that has you rooting for them. Love that there are no couple drama shenanigans, oh there are some shenanigans, but they are more of the sexy variety, like the office shenanigans…I know you’re welcome. We get to see some of our favorites from her Fellside Mountain Rescue series…like my Nick…again you’re welcome. An epilogue and a hea.

Single mum falls for the local fire chief - it all sounds so simple until it isn't.

Let me start by saying that single moms are the real MVPs!! Sheila has been raising her two teenage sons practically on her own since she divorced from her husband, who now has a boyfriend. Josh is the towns firefighter who has been crushing on Sheila for months now. He just wants to be there for her and her kids. I really enjoyed seeing how they both navigated a new relationship and the headaches teenage boys bring 🫣 This was a cute and easy read that also brings awareness on how some actions have consequences, some more severe than others. I loved how, in the end, everyone comes together and helps Sheila out.

Also, Josh can pouch my eggs anytime! 🤩

Thank you @dani_elias_books and @happilybookedp for this ARC ❤️

This is my second book from this author & just like the first book I read it did not disappoint!

I loved Sheila she’s a single mom of two and I loved how into her kids and family she was
I also loved the relationship she had with everyone especially her ex and his new partner 🫶🏻

I also loved Josh he fell for her first & hard!
& then when they started becoming something he pictured them as a happy family 🥹🥹

He didn’t even want to try taking over being a dad just a second fatherly figure & friend!

When that happened with GEE (Sheila’s son) my heart stopped! I was even worried for her
As a mom of little ones I felt that whole situation the fear of having your child experiment or make friends with the wrong crowd it’s scary!

I was soo glad everything worked out for them & my heart hurt for the other two kids.. (that’s a parents worst nightmare)

Anyways I really enjoyed this book!

Sheila is a single mother of two teenage boys, and hasn't put herself first for a very long time. When the fire alarm at her hotel goes off on a false alarm, again, she's faced with tall, dark, and handsome fire fighter, Josh.

Everyone around them is encouraging them to make a move, so when Sheila ends up getting a ride home from Josh after one of her sons breaks his leg, they throw caution to the wind and decide to jump in, at least physically.

Sheila is hesitant to give a part of herself to someone, and to make a choice that's for her instead of for her family. But when her family is in danger and Josh steps up, she realizes that maybe he's not such a bad idea after all.

This was heartwarming and tense, but so romantic.

This was a nice little quick read. I loved how the main characters are all older. Sheila and Josh are both divorced and happen to keep bumping into each other. Lots of feelings and emotions are at play, especially with kids involved. This story was one of perseverance, understanding, dedication, and found family. I love small town romances for this exact reason. I'm excited to read more of this series in the future.

Josh is a walking green flag, and he is hot. Dani Elias has a way of setting up a backstory without taking up space in a book. It just flows. These two had banter and tension that were known from the moment we met them. The family dynamics were complex, and we got backstory as well as the development of the MCs. It just worked and was amazing. My heart broke and was scared many times in this book it was amazing. These tales are great.

Oh Dani Elias where have you been hiding? This is my first book from you and I am hooked! A super sweet novella that’s a quick read of swim worthy love.

Sheila manages the Greenview Manor Hotel. Josh is the fire chief/manager of the town. Sheila has 2 sons with an involved ex-husband. But what she feels is a plate of chaos. Josh wants to be her person. It’s a sweet romance tale with some nice spice to it. Spice about 2.5 to 3.

Dani Elias' "Fierce Family" is a heartwarming and emotionally charged romance that beautifully intertwines the lives of a dedicated single mother and a charming fire chief. This novel is a delightful exploration of love, family, and the challenges that come with balancing a demanding career and personal life.

Sheila, the protagonist, is a fiercely independent single mother of two teenage boys. As the General Manager of the top hotel in the area, her life is a whirlwind of responsibilities and pressures. Elias paints Sheila as a strong, capable woman who is wary of adding romance to her already full plate. Her character is instantly relatable, and readers will find themselves rooting for her from the very beginning.

Enter Josh, the local fire chief whose persistence and charm are impossible for Sheila to ignore. Josh's determination to win Sheila over is endearing and adds a layer of sweetness to the story. Elias does a fantastic job of developing Josh's character, making him more than just a romantic interest. His dedication to his job and his unwavering support for Sheila and her boys make him a hero in every sense of the word.

The chemistry between Sheila and Josh is palpable, and Elias captures the complexities of their relationship with finesse. The romance is slow-burning but intensely passionate, with moments that will make readers' hearts flutter. Just when it seems like things might finally fall into place, a twist brings Sheila's worst fears to the forefront, testing the strength of their bond.

What sets "Fierce Family" apart is its emphasis on family dynamics. Sheila's relationship with her teenage sons is portrayed with authenticity and depth, highlighting the struggles and joys of single parenthood. Josh's willingness to embrace not just Sheila but her entire family is heartwarming and adds a rich, emotional layer to the narrative.

Elias' writing is crisp and engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring the setting to life. The pacing is perfect, balancing the romantic tension with moments of levity and drama. The supporting characters add depth to the story, making the world of "Fierce Family" feel fully realized and immersive.

In conclusion, "Fierce Family" by Dani Elias is a captivating romance that celebrates love, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds of family. It's a story that will tug at your heartstrings and leave you with a smile on your face. Perfect for readers who enjoy heartfelt romance with a touch of realism, this book is a must-read. Elias has crafted a tale that is as fierce as it is tender, proving that love truly can conquer all.

Tommy the owner of Greenview Manor Hotel , heads a Fellside Mountain Rescue Team unit when he’s not at the hotel or spending time with his wife and son. Sheila is the boss , well the (General Manager)when it comes to protecting her guests and staff at the Hotel from fire. Taking the Fire Marshal job seriously. “Sir, this is the fire alarm; can you please evacuate by the nearest exit?” “Oh, come on, the football’s starting in a minute!” her friend Marissa the Operations Manager is from the US but married a Mancunian and loves trying to wind her up about the hottie Fire Chief ( Watch Manager dear not in the US now , you’d think she’d know after ten years…) . But Josh ( dark chocolate brown eyes with gold flecks and two ripped muscly arms that flex and disarm) …., the …ok he’s hot ! But doesn’t he know it …, he’s cocky too as all damnation … no not the bird that you keep in a cage or a dog for that matter , that’s Dalmatian . Although come to mention it , he’d look good in one on a stage maybe 🥵 and he’s a bit of a lad down at the station..”Let me guess, another false alarm?” he sighs and nods towards the guests heading back to the building. “I’m really sorry—” Then in a puff of smoke , well not really that’s the joke… her fantasy chokes and the jerk appears! If only she knew that the man she is despising has a thing for her red hair and emerald green eyes. Ding ! Sheila has the usual life as a mom at home, bringing up two teenage boys alone …it’s not exactly aplomb… especially when their gay father drops the M bomb! Sometimes she’d like to feel loved and thought fondly of instead of them all relying on her , like maybe stars align in the sky and the reasons why sets her on her way…. “Oh, I’m sure you have better things to do having already wasted the whole afternoon on your day off.” “Actually, taking a beautiful woman out for dinner sounds just about perfect to me,” whoopee ! Yay! They are on their way…. Mighty fine writing by Dani Elias , it has all the feels and perfect prose that makes you feel good from your tits to your toes … perfectly descripted time after time and utterly brilliant characters and storytelling ? Sublime! I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words

Single Mom
Hot Firefighter MMC
Dual POV
Teenage Drama (raising)
Complex Family Dynamics

This was a great little romance novella between a single mom raising 2 teenage boys and a hot firefighter MMC. I really enjoyed the family dynamics particularly the wholesome relationship between Sheila and her ex Nico. The portrayal of positive co-parenting and respecting the other parent of your child(ren), as a parent but also as a person and friend, rather than the toxic co-parenting or lack there of that can typically serve as an aspect of books was a strength in this book. I enjoyed how the relationship between Sheila and Josh evolved and fit into the existing family dynamics. I appreciated that Sheila was guarded and conscious of how the relationship would affect her children showing that they were always her number one priority. I also appreciated the patience and understanding that Josh was able to provide as things progressed with their relationship and allowed Sheila to set the pacing. His acceptance of her hesitance and caution was a breath of fresh air.

I also enjoyed that we also got not only the perspective of raising teenage boys but that there was a plot line in the story that involved them. They weren't just Sheila's kids that don't actually make an appearance in the story more than a passing mention. That fact that Sheila had children and how it affected the progression of her relationship with Josh as well as how their relationship was introduced to her boys I felt made the story more realistic.

There was steamy scenes but also more genuine connection and understanding throughout the book making it an overall solid little novella. I love that there was actual depth to the novella with more hard-hitting topics steeped in reality. It is a instalove kind of story that you can read this in one sitting but one that you will find yourself drawn to the characters and easily immersed in how it all plays out.

Format: 📱 eBook 📱

This is a quick, spicy, emotionally gripping novella set in the same universe as Elias' Fellside Rescue series.

What I love about Elias's books is that she's makes her main characters older - it's refreshing to hear about someone closer to my age than a lot of contemporary romances these days who tend to focus on young 20-somethings (yes, I'm aware I'm closer in age to those 20-somethings, but I definitely relate more to those in their late 30's/early 40's).

Sheila is a single mum to two teen boys (Keiran and Gregory), who has always put family first since her divorce from their father. Josh, one of the local firefighters, has had Sheila on his mind for months now, his desire for her growing with each call out his company gets to her workplace. This is definitely a case of insta-lust/love, he falls first, but I absolutely ate it up.

I loved how Sheila is still so close with her ex and his new boyfriend, and how Josh joins into the family set up completely without the intention of becoming another dad to Sheila's kids. To me this is a true blended/found family, and it was refreshing to read about a family who stays friendly post-divorce.

My heart broke for the events that occurred, and it was an unexpectedly emotional story - I thought I was diving into a small-town romance, but Elias truly tugged at the heartstrings with this one. A beautiful, quick read which I absolutely adored - another fantastic novella from Elias. I'm looking forward to seeing where the Greenview Manor series goes from here.

Thank you to the author and @happilybookedpr for the eARC opportunity. These are my honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily.

" This is a fierce family, and I want to be part of it."

I liked the part that Dani said in the blurb - single mum falls for local fire chief - it all sounds so simple until it isn't.! If I wasn't already a huge fan of Dani's then this would have sucked me in!

Dani's books are always amazing reads, they always captive you and take you on an incredible journey. And this one wasn't any different. It's the first book in her new series greenview manor tales. And we get to follow the wonderful story of Sheila and josh. It's a quick read novella that will have you flying through the pages never wanting to put it down for a second. I was sucked in from the start. Some of the things that happened had me on the edge of my seat. It's action packed with Amazing characters, storyline and plot. It was beautifully written as always. Very heartwarming and intense.

Sheila is a single mother to two teenage boys, she's been doing it all herself after getting divorced from her ex husband. Her life is super busy , she's a manager in one of the top hotels in her area. The last thing on her mind is a relationship.

Josh is the handsome fire chief, and his eyes are firmly set on our Sheila, it's love at first sight , his heart is racing and he will do anything to make her, his. When the family is in danger it's the good old fire chief that steps in and helps. And that gets Sheila attention.

It's a must read!! I can't wait to read the rest in the series. Highly recommend!!

I just finished reading the ARC for this novella..… loved it!! I’m not usually a novella person, unless it’s part of a series and called book 2.5 or something, but as soon as I read the description for this I couldn’t resist. From start to finish I was having the time of my life. From the hilarious British slang down the steamy scenes, this novella was super enjoyable. What I enjoyed the most though was that the author managed to write an interesting plot line, the perfect amount of back story and also introduce side characters all in 100 page!! That’s talent!

Loveeeee Sheila, sexy lil MILF. Very strong personality, knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to take and also a great mother, despite what she tells herself. I love that she’s made to most of her situation and is doing what she loves most in life. In comes Mr FirefighterJosh… what a beast!! Radiates pure male sin and has a one track focus for our leading lady. They were explosive in the best way and I’m super satisfied with their ending.

I very much approve of the representation in this book. We’ve got mature main characters, a MM side couple, struggles WITH teenage sons which then brings us to struggles AS a teenage son. As I said, the author wrote a steady enjoyable plot line, and they did it really well.

🏨 Novella
🔥 Firefighter MMC x hotel manager FMC

Sheila has been raising her two teen sons on her own (but still has a great relationship with their dad). She also hasn’t been with anyone else in NINE years. Josh has always been fond from Shiela from afar. When her hotel has yet another sale fire alarm, he starts to realize he might actually have feelings for her. When her son gets hurt at a visit to the fire house, Josh and Shiela are thrown together to care for him. When her other son goes missing, Josh is determined to find him and support Sheila throughout the process.

This is was definitely one of my favorite Dani books! Sometimes, novella’s can feel under-developed but I didn’t feel that way here. Yes, the story itself was short, but there was enough background information and chemistry that it didn’t feel rushed. Not only did I love the romance pieces, but I also loved the underlying suspense tones.

Since I have read all of Dani’s books, I loved to see some pop ups from characters in the Fellside Mountain series. It’s not recommended to read this series first, but I always recommend it!

As always, major thanks to Dani for letting me binge this one early ◡̈

This book was such a good quick read. It had every element that is needed to get out of a reading slump and allowing you to have a satisfied feel out of it.

I honestly loved this book since it fallows the events of a single mom trying to make time for her love life after giving her all to her kids and her job. This is such a relatable aspect that I loved since it made the story more real.
The main character Sheila was such a strong headed character, stubborn even that she didn’t want to break her own routine of caring for her family and just working, even though she had an infatuation with someone. I love seeing the vulnerability that was shown with her character and I loved how it showed that allowing your self to date won’t break the routine too much.
Josh is such a green flag through and through. He was understanding of Sheila’s responsibilities and her life style that he didn’t even want to disrupt her normalcy but allow her to give her a hand. I loved how he showed her so much love and affection even though he knew that it would be a while for her to actually open up and allow him fully in. His actions and his descriptions were so attractive I was swooning.

Their relationship didn’t feel forced nor rushed. I felt like it was realistic and honest enough that you can’t help but love their dynamic.

I didn’t expect to fall so hard for this story, but Dani Elias completely pulled me into Fierce Family. Sheila is a hardworking single mom who’s spent nearly a decade focused on her boys and career, leaving little room for her personal life (other than BOB. IYKYK). Enter Josh—the town’s fire captain who keeps showing up at her hotel thanks to a troublemaking guest setting off alarms every chance they get. He’s been drawn to Sheila for a while, and when fate throws them together after an accident with one of her sons, their connection seems destined.

What I loved most was how naturally their relationship developed. Josh falls first and hard, but he never pushes—just supports, showing up when Sheila and her boys need him most. Their chemistry is undeniable on paper, and the slow burn between them had me rooting for them the entire time. The story doesn’t shy away from the struggles of parenting teenagers, and there were moments that hit me right in the heart (especially being a mom of 2 boys!). But through it all, Josh proves he’s more than just a love interest—he’s a safe place for Sheila and her boys.

This audio/book was definitely a bit short, but don’t let that fool you. It packs an emotional punch; pulling right on the heartstrings. I even teared up a bit when certain things went down. (I’m a VERY “I wear my emotions on my sleeve,” type of person!) It’s heartfelt, a good bit steamy, and full of small-town charm… tag in some heavy hitting emotional points, and definite suspense… this one nailed it all.

A HUGE thank you to Happily Booked PR and Dani Elias for giving me the chance to listen to this awesome audiobook. I LOVEEEE me a good accent!!!

Ever since her divorce, Sheila has lived her life for her two teenage sons and her hotel guests, never allowing feelings for anyone to distract her. The past 8 months have been especially difficult due to the many false fire alarms the hotel has been experiencing, bringing with it the fire brigade and that hotter-than-sin firefighter, Josh.

Josh hasn’t had genuine feelings for anyone since his ex-wife, which didn’t end well. But there’s something about the feisty redhead who runs the Greenview Manor that sets his heart on ablaze. Can he convince her to give him a chance or will all of his desires go up in flames?

Hot firefighter and sexy single mom. Sign me up! I loved this small town novella that is starting off Dani's Greenview Manor series.

Having Josh & Sheila in their 40s made this story a lot more relatable for me! I love a found family dynamic because it gives the characters some extra depth in how they deal with one another in these new relationships.

Having older characters finding love for a second time is something that I really enjoy in a story and Dani does such a great job with Josh and Sheila. They have some baggage, they've been burned before and they have experience in their relationships now and that changes how they view love and I really like that.

Being only just over 100 pages, Dani packs a lot of story in this book but it's not overdone! The characters are wonderful, the story is heartwarming and dramatic with a touch of spice - and she makes that spice count :) You are invested and end up reading this cover to cover before you know it! Wonderful attributes for an engaging novella.

It was also great to have a few of the other Fellside characters pop in for a visit- always a favorite thing of mine in any series!

Thank you so much Dani and Happily Booked PR for giving me this fantastic story to read!

As a single mother, Sheila's kids have been and will always been her main priority (her ex-husband is still around, just gay and with a new partner lol). For Josh, work has been his whole life. But both of them can't seem to get away from each other whenever a fire calls Josh to Sheila's hotel. When the two of them finally decide to give them a shot, it could either go great or go up in flames.

Dani is a new-to-me author, but overall, I really enjoyed reading Fierce Family! I think that I wished that the book wasn't a novella because I wanted more time with these characters. The relationship between Sheila and Josh really fast for my liking. But besides the fast-paced nature of the novella, I enjoyed learning more about the Fellside community and seeing how supportive they all were and banding together to support Sheila and the rest of her family.

I think it really highlighted well the family dynamic, especially with teenagers in the house, and finding love at a later age.

❤️‍🔥Fierce Family by Dani Elias is Greenview Manor Tales Book 1. This is a fabulous small town romance which is a complete 360 from my typical read but Im addicted to Dani Elias’s writing and the amazing characters and the worlds she creates.
❤️‍🔥Sheila and Josh’s story is heart felt and relatable. Sheila is a sexy independent single mom trying to do her best for her 2 teenage boys. She’s even kept an open healthy relationship with her ex. She is always looking out for everyone else before her own wants and needs. Josh our hot single charismatic local firefighter and he is living his best life doing his thing. He finds enjoyment instigating Sheila, getting under her skin and provoking emotional outbursts. Both of them are denying the obvious sparks flying between them feigning busy lifestyles to deter perusing a relationship.
❤️‍🔥So much story is packed into this novella. Turbulent emotions, sexual tension, complex family dynamics, angst, suspense, and passionate spice. There were moments that had a hard punch in my mom feels. I was incredibly happy to have some of the Fellside family make appearances.
❤️‍🔥This is an excellent start to the series and I highly recommend this passionate read.

Fierce Family
by Dani Elias

This is a cute novella. This is my first time reading a book by this author and it will not be my last! This novella has all the romance, suspense, and family that keep you reading and wanting more. I loved reading about characters in their forties with children, families, jobs, commitments, etc.

Sheila is our FMC. She is a single Mom of two boys and the General Manager at a local hotel. She has been divorced for nine years and her previous husband left her for another man. While she and her ex remain friends, she has been guarded with her heart since then. She is portrayed as a self-sacrificing hero Mom, a diligent worker, and a beautiful soul.

Josh is our MMC. He is the local fire chief. He is constantly called to the hotel where Sheila works due to false fire alarms from a guest who keeps smoking in his room. For the past eight months, he has been drawn to her but hasn’t made a move yet. Josh is also divorced but wants to give their relationship a try. He is portrayed as kind, helpful, loving, and a hero.

Overall, I loved the book! I recommend the novella for adults only due to its mature themes. The writing is strong and the story teaches about love, forgiveness, found family, longsuffering, and dedication. I highly recommend it!

Big thanks to Happily Booked PR for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick but engaging listen that balanced romance, family, and suspense really well. Sheila, a hardworking single mum, and Josh, a dedicated firefighter, had great chemistry, and while instalove isn’t usually my favorite, it worked here because of their history and mutual attraction. The British small-town setting added charm, and I liked how the story tackled real-life struggles, especially around parenting teenagers and overcoming past hardships. Josh’s patience and devotion to Sheila and her boys made him such a lovable character. The dual POV gave insight into both characters’ emotions, which helped deepen the story. The narration took a little time to get used to, particularly distinguishing between the two main characters, but the emotional delivery was strong. While I wish some parts had been explored a little more, given the novella length, it was still an enjoyable read with a nice mix of spice, heart, and drama. If you’re looking for a short but heartfelt romance with mature characters and a bit of suspense, this one is worth checking out.
