This is Book 5 in the Shelving Magic Series by Nellie H. Steele. In this book, we find Paige and her teacup dragon companion, Dewey, on a quest to find her mother. With the help of a diverse group of companions, the group ventures to find clues to her mother's whereabouts in Ireland. A cursed magical artifact leads the group, warping them through time and space. The group finds themselves fighting for their lives against a deadly assortment of enemies, from German Nazi soldiers to vampires. In their quest, Paige and Dewey find themselves assisting other librarians in securing artifacts and soon learn that this adventure is not random but holds a secret that has something to do with Paige's history.
This story was truly a whirlwind of action, thrills, mystery, and excitement. Just when you were getting comfortable in one setting and time, the author would transport the reader into an entirely different scenario, from medieval times to France during World War I, the artifact would respond spontaneously. I enjoyed the interactions among the characters and the growing connection they are developing. The reader could also feel the emotions within the characters, from tension to loss, love to friendship, the sentimentality was always strong. The world-building of the story was fabulous and was enough to make your head spin. The plotline was at times complicated, but that did not distract from the satisfaction of enjoying reading the story. With a clever plot, witty dialogue, exciting action, and time-traveling suspense, who could not enjoy this exceptional journey? I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced, exciting, and unusual scenario to get lost in. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy
