And when a rival clan thinks to use her to force his paw, he'll show them why you never piss off a Kodiak, or threaten what's his.

Eve Langlais' books are hit and miss for me. This one was a miss.
It's because she writes strong character personalities and very alpha males. If you don't like one or both of them, you will not like the book.
In this case, I didn't really like either of them that much. Let's discuss why, huh?

Our heroine is Tammy, a "big, beautiful woman". She dumps her ex-boyfriend when she catches him cheating on her and continually mentions that he sucked because he was always on her about her weight. I like how she wasn't willing to change for him, and that she wanted someone who accepted her for who she is - a chubby chick who's cute anyway. But, she didn't get rid of the douche, who constantly called her fat, until he cheated. She also whined throughout the entire book about being chubby. Either own it or change it, girl! If you have curves and are fine with it, then stop with the "poor me, I'm fat" routine. You can't expect other people to accept you for who you are if YOU don't accept yourself for who you are.

Excuse me, I've got to leave and be her best friend now.

Tammy's love interest is Reid, an alpha bear shifter who is in charge of a shifter town in Alaska and owns some sort of importing-exporting company.

Tammy comes to Alaska on behalf of Reid's insurance company because he's been losing trucks lately and has made claims. She's going to check out if there is shady business going on. And, being the professional she is, she stays in his house with his grandma and wishes he would have sex with her. Of course, that would be completely unethical and wrong, so she totally resists her urges for literally hours before "her body betrays her" and she is screwing the client.

Um, yeah Tammy. If you need to ask that, I'm wondering why we hired you in the first place.

Reid is Mr. Super Alpha. I had a hard time with him because I didn't actually see any reason for her to like him. I guess she liked what he looked like, but he was never nice, funny, interesting, charming, or intelligent - you know, the kind of things that would make someone's personality attractive. He was just a pushy jerk. At one point, he decided he didn't want her to leave and he took her cell phone away from her and wouldn't let her call her mother to let her know that she was okay. How could any girl be willing to be with a man who pushes her around and thinks he has the right to "ground her" off the phone? I really wanted to hurt this asshole.

You would think so, Batman. You would think so...

He also pushed her into having sex after she said NO, while knowing that he couldn't have a relationship with her because he was expected to marry another shifter.

"A man in his position was expected to having pure descendants."

Oh, now I really want to kill him!

So, if he lowers himself to mate with Tammy, his children will be "unpure"?

To summarize his position: he wants to have sex with the insurance adjuster whether she wants to or not, he claims ownership over her multiple times by saying she is his and by deciding who she can talk to or not by taking her phone and forbidding her to make phone calls on anyone else's phone, he refuses to let her leave town and tells everyone in it to make sure she doesn't get away, and yet he is fully planning on marrying someone else who is more "pure" than her? Yup. Want to kill him.

Huh, cats are good for something after all.

I admit that plenty of my friends love the whole over-bearing alpha guy thing, so if that's you, here you go. It's free on Amazon right now.

3.5 stars rounded up.
What I didn't like:
- stupid STUPID hero telling the h they do not have a future as he MUST marry a pureblood for political reason, but he would LOVE to sow his oats with her.
- It took him a while to realise things, he was looking at all the wrong reasons to keep her there, and also FORCE her to stay with him without offering anything. Given that they were in the middle of an ambush but to tell someone you don't trust them and order them to stay just as your fling right after sex was a low blow.
- I found Reid a little too bossy, he needs a little lesson in wedding proposal. It seemed that ALL of Tammy's decision were made FOR her, not with her.

Mixed feelings:
- Reid's grandma, she completely screwed up the whole thing for him, by claiming "reverse psychology". As she pointed out herself, Tammy only needed reassurance and kind words to make her stay, which Reid refused to give her, because the grandmother insinuated just the night before that she would be disappointed if he took a human mate.
- Jan, even though she was trying to help, in the middle of an ambush, to take your alpha's mate away when he specifically asked her not go so she can stay safe was prettttty stupid.

Loved these parts:
- Beginning of the book, Tammy throws her cheating ex's prized possession in a pyre and cooked a steak on top of it, gave him a verbal rundown, and kicked him out threatening to call the police on him.
- She was NOT a fragile little girl. She has a job and is capable of going to remote areas to conduct investigation and is capable of finding her way out of problem herself. She doesn't need a knight in shining armour.
- She absolutely enjoys ogling the eye candies, no guilt there.
- She was celibate for a little while because to her men = scum, but she was sexually experienced and it wasn't bad sex either.
- Girlie knows how to defend herself, knows how to use a shotgun against bears, wolves, kidnappers and in this case the hero. Also can improvise with a cast iron frying pan and she's not afraid to use it on the hero that turned into a bear in front of her.
- Calls the hero Balu when he turns into a bear 🤣🤣
- She's not intimidated or embarrassed by the hero most the time. She also not constantly leaking....ahem...down there.
- Hero loves her just as she is WITH her wits, sass and sarcasm.
- She took the hero's godawful stupid proposition quite well. Fine, you want sex, I want sex, no strings attached, why not, I am a free agent attitude, and she'd have left him in a heartbeat, despite this being a shifter and romance novel, if hero wasn't showing the vulnerability which Jan interpreted to her later that hero is a thickhead, and this is his way of trying to tell her he doesn't want a stupid fling and he doesn't want her to go.
- Even though hero claimed he had his epiphany AFTER she was kidnapped, he had a whole chapter of inner monologue telling us readers that he had that epiphany the moment she wanted to leave town. The inner monologue wasn't really bad either. It was rather entertaining as it was actually a conversation with his bear.
- No matter how much the hero seemed unsure, he wasn't when his grandma told him to go after her.
- Sarcasm is my kinda humour along with Tammy being my kind of heroine. Reid will have to claim health insurance sooner rather than later if he's with her. She has hit him more in the book than any bad guys!

This is our feisty heroine here:

Too focused on the weight of the heroine!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 😚☹️🥹
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Reid - he is a Kodiak bear shifter and alpha of a clan in a small Alaskan town. He owned the trucking company that employed most of his clan and kept the town employed and supplied with groceries and supplies as well as brought all their goods to other towns. When a rival shifter group had been hijacking his trucks and disappearing some of his drivers, he struggled to keep his company running while waiting on the insurance money for his losses.

The heroine: Tammy - she is a human insurance investigator, who is sent to Alaska to investigate the company that had been filing large claims lately. She wanted to prove it was an inside job, hoping that her company wouldn’t have to pay out the claims. If she could prove it, then a promotion might be in store for her. Tammy recently got out of a bad relationship with a man who was cheating on her.

The Story: Tammy had been having trouble ever since she arrived in Alaska. The only way to the remote town where she was headed was to hitch a ride in one of Reed’s trucks that was headed back to the town with a load of groceries and supplies. When the truck got a flat and was surrounded by a pack of wolves, Tammy was “accidentally” drugged with a tranquilizer dart. She woke up in Reed’s house only to find that someone was trying to kill Reed and other residents of the town.

I tend to hate books where the heroine is a BBW. Especially ones like this where talking about her weight, her eating habits and the like is more of a plot than the actual plot. This one was obsessed with everything about her weight and the fact that she loved food and that her former boyfriends all expected her to diet. I got really sick of it early on. I am all about a guy that doesn’t mind some extra meat on his lady, but I hate when a book is all about that fact. I think one or two small mentions of the fact are enough without focusing on the issue and on every delicious meal she enjoys during the story.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Chandra Skye. She isn’t my favorite narrator, her voice is OK, but not great. Though she is good about using different voices for different characters. I had planned on listening to all three books in this box set, but after this one, I doubt I will move on to the next.

A sassy, curvy human woman and a huge, grumpy, alpha Kodiak shifter argue, bite, shoot, boss, and battle their way as an unknown and dangerous enemy plots nearby.

Each time I pick up a book by this author, it is 'guarantee take it to the bank' fun and excitement and I think this was my favorite of her stories that I've read so far. There was the usual sassy wit, steamy attraction, and adorable characters with their human-like flaws along with a villain that was twitching just out of sight, but kept things tense.

I laughed many times as the two main characters developed a relationship that took both of them by surprise.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
I don’t know. Instinct not logic currently dictated his actions. But he didn’t admit this aloud.
“Do you always ask so many questions?”
“Only when I’m trying to understand what’s going on.”
“Isn’t it obvious?”
Confusion clouded her gaze. “No.”
Did she not sense the attraction between them? Of course she didn’t. She was a simple human. She couldn’t know how his bear chuffed at her nearness. How the scent of her aroused him. How he wanted to lay claim to her body. What the (deuce) is wrong with me?
Apparently, his grandmother wondered the same thing. “Reid Alexander Carver, what are you doing manhandling our guest?”
Oops, caught harboring naughty thoughts and jolted back to sanity. What am I doing?

Eve Langlais (0101-01-01T00:00:00+00:00). Kodiak's Claim (Kindle Locations 596-604). Eve Langlais. Kindle Edition.

This is the first of a new shifter series that gets to things quickly explaining a bit of the background as it goes with a deftness that gives just enough to keep the reader on par with more concentration given to the plot, characters and romance development. Aside from the main characters, several other interesting personalities were introduced in this story setting up for more people to get their stories in this series. The conflict rises to an exciting climax, but still is left open enough to continue through the series. I am looking forward to what comes next.

So, if you are interested in scorching yet light paranormal romance, I would recommend this series.

My thanks to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

A girl with curves who's not afraid to eat, and a big bear who just wants to eat her. Interesting way to turn someone into a shifter. There's a bad guy who of course gets away to make future books interesting. Now I'm curious about the next one...how does a fox and moose mix....

This book was up and down for me. Please note, I did not go into this looking for my next incredible read (see book cover and title for reasoning)... I was looking for some entertainment.

It started that way. I liked the characters and was super intrigued with the bear shifter aspect, since this was my first bear shifter book. The writing was decent. The storyline about missing trucks and drivers had me intrigued. How our characters were brought together was good. Their chemistry was there.

And it kept going strong through most of it. I knew going in it was a shorter book (not a novella, just not super long) - so you always have to change you mindset knowing that a lot needs to happen in a shorter amount of time. So, yea you get some insta-lust, which does not bother me one bit.

Reed is a complete bossy, alpha-hole (which I love). He had some push in pull in his mind between going after what he wanted and his duty as an alpha. But he was honest with Tammy the whole time, just not honest with his true feelings. Yes he was an idiot and did extreme things like "ground" her from her phone.

Tammy is a decent heroine, especially in the beginning. But she did start to bug me. Okay, so I’m loving these curvy woman being our feisty heroines. But I have to say, and I know not all will agree, I really can’t get down with hearing how “chubby” my heroine is the entire fucking book. Seriously, she literally called herself chubby over and over again until the last chapter. And it wasn’t in an “kiss my chubby ass” kinda way. It was a complete bashing on herself. She also constantly talked about how her ex talked about her weight. I just wish she would have owned her size and amaziness - or at least once Reed told her he loved himself a curvy girl that she would have embraced it…. She didn’t…

This book was still a solid 3.5 book for me, until it wasn’t…..

The ending… I’m going to put this in a spoiler warning here because…. Well the author will be pissed I’m spilling the beans, but seriously, I have to talk about it…..

.

LAST WARNING........
.
.
.

Tammy gets kidnapped by the bad guy. He knocks her unconscious. When she wakes up she is strapped to a table and in horrible pain, and the bad guy tells her he is turning her to a shifter and basically says, Good Luck only 1 in 13 survive the transition. He is making her one of his kind, so that every time Reed looks at her he will think of him and how he failed to protect her. That is pretty traumatic right?

Then we shift to Reeds POV, he comes in and sees her on the table, fights with bad guy to get to her. During this fight a fire starts in the building and Tammy is suddenly whirled back to being a child where she watches her dad die in a cabin fire (unless I zoned out, this was not mentioned earlier in the story). So now her PTSD is kicking in and she is freaking out. Also very traumatic right?

Then Reed gets hurt and she is all of sudden completely okay, no more pain from this transition. Fire issue completely gone... Fine, I can get down with that - heat of the moment women can pick up a fucking car to save their kids and shit, right?

Okay, so then bad guy gets away, Reeds tells her she is staying, she agrees. Not once does she thinks to say “Hey that crazy lunatic said he was changing me into a shape shifter, is that true?”.

Oh and even though only 1 in 13 people survive the shift change because it is so awful, Tammy luckily only had about 3 mins of pain and then it was all good…. SERIOUSLY THEY GO HOME AND JUST GET ON WITH IT!

And we never talk about said childhood fire trauma….. LIKE IT NEVER FUCKING HAPPENED - LIKE WHY THE FUCK WAS THIS EVEN IN THE STORY!

Then the book fast forwards a bit (I don't know how long, I was getting kinda pissed at this point and the details were not sticking), Tammy is playing with some kids and “roars” at said kids. She freaks out and asks Reed about it…. You want to know what he says....

He just comes all blase and shit and says “You are a shape shifter” She shrieks like this is brand new info to her…. Then he continues “I kind of suspected when I saw you strapped to the gurney, but I figured it out last night, your scent and extra vigor in bed kinda gave it away”

Then 4 sentences later they are on to something else….

Nope, that was it. She was like "hmm, I thought he was kidding." and then we just moved on.

Okay, I know I read a book about bear fucking shifters so asking for some realistic shit is kinda stupid but come on!! That ending was just complete bullshit.

I totally didn't mean for this to be a long review, but sometimes shit just gets away with you. I'm actually 90% certain my review is longer than the actual end of this book.

Whatever. Moving the fuck on!

Ok, so, it’s no purple alien, but this 1st novel in Langlais’ Kodiak Point series really held my attention. I enjoyed the mix of chemistry with personal conflict, action with getting to know the characters. Langlais’ seamless writing easily melds with her vivid descriptions to take readers deep into the heart of Kodiak territory.

I love Langlais’ take on shifters and the characters that she creates from them. Not only did the main characters really stand out but the entire cast held my attention. I love the fact that Tammy not only loves food, but actually eats it. Reid’s Alpha-all-the-way attitude really drew me to him. He was such a captivating individual when we really got to know him.

Langlais definitely makes romance fun with this one. It’s a great story that sets the scene well for the rest of the series.

“I’m alpha. We don’t ask. We Declare”

Kodiak’s Claim Eve Langlais

I totally love Eve’s writing style. Totally. When I saw on FB and from her newsletter she was doing a new series I was totally stoked. Eve has a way with words and situations that you picture playing out in your head. She uses the right combination of humor, drama and romance and you can’t help but love her reads.

From Chapter one where Tammy is using her ex’s belongings in her grill to cook herself a steak to the end of the read I was cracking up laughing out loud. Tammy is a character you will absolutely fall in love with. Her antics will keep you smiling (in my case laughing). My nickname for her was chunky monkey and I mean this in a good way. She has the right attitude about things and it comes across.

Tammy is an Insurance investigator so when three of Reid’s transports went missing Tammy’s boss sent her to Alaska to check it out and make sure they weren’t fraudulent claims. That lands her right in Reid’s arms literally. You see she had to hitch a ride to get to Kodiak Point and as luck would have it she coerced her way into a ride with Travis who is Reid’s cousin and hidden in the cabin was Boris. Since the trucks were disappearing Reid wanted someone hidden with Travis in case they were hijacked. Just so happens they ended up with a flat tire (not an accident) and all hell broke loose. Boris ended up sedating Tammy so she couldn’t see what was happening. When Travis called Reid to let him know what was going down Reid was on it, especially after Travis mentioned their human visitor. After all said and done Reid removed the sedated out Tammy from the cab of the truck and right then and there he was a goner. He may not have known it, but trust me he was. Of all things he strapped her to him and took her to his house on a snowmobile. You ask why? I think that’s what his bear wanted. I was cracking up. I could just picture that sight. Once Tammy finally woke up the real fun begins. She meets Reid’s Grandmother Ursula and the woman is witty. I totally love her. She’s such a keeper. You get the impression she really likes Tammy then at one point she seems to be giving Reid a rough time about Tammy and reminding him of his duty. I was a little upset until I found out her reasoning and then I really really loved her.

Tammy at one point ends up bashing Reid in the head with a frying pan because he snuck up on her. Then she shoots the guy in the ass with silver shot gun pellets (but she does remove them for him). She has naughty thoughts about what she wants to do with that hunk of a man. Then she sees him go from man to bear and at first freaks then is so totally not fazed. I’m telling you the woman is a rock. Just a little teaser they do succumb to their feelings. Oh and wait until you read what happened to Tammy when she was kidnapped by and old friend of Reid’s who was thought to be dead. I guess you can say they are no longer friends.

This read was such a treat. I’ve already preordered the next book “Outfoxed by Love” and you know whose story this is about. Yep Jan and Boris can’t wait. I still can’t get over Boris being a Moose shifter. He’s a freakin Moose just cracked me up. Eve 5* and can’t wait for book #2.

Disclaimer: I DNF Kodiak's Claim with about 1.5 hours left in the audio.

I was a little disappointed in Kodiak's Claim. After reading bear shifters by authors like Jessica Sims, Shelley Laurenston and Jennifer Ashley I was looking forward to starting Kodiak's Claim.

All of the other werebears I've read from the mentioned authors have been a delight. They are lovable, grumpy and have an obsession with honey and/or fish like their animal counterparts. Making them fun characters. I can't say the same for Reid. He just didn't hit that werebear itch I had.

The narration was on the slow side for me. Chandra Skyye didn't have an unpleasant voice but it was a little too mono-toned for me. She just read the book. There was not much difference in the voices. Honestly the narration could have easily put me to sleep if I had been listening at home instead of work.

The story, characters and narration didn't work for me. They didn't pull me in and I found myself not caring how Kodiak's Claim ended. The writing wasn't bad so I'm going to give the second book in the Kodiak Point series, Outfoxed by Love a try. I mean the idea of a moose shifter has peaked my interest. But I'll be checking it out in ebook format from the library instead of listening to the audio.

I actually really enjoyed this.. until he started calling her city girl. It was annoying as hell and I couldn't focus on anything but that. Why do men in romance books always have to use ridiculous nicknames? I would prefer the classic 'baby' or 'hunny' or hell I'd take 'love'. But city girl? No.

Shifter romance with a lot of snark, humor and insta-love. Safety gang safe.

Tammy is sent to Alaska to investigate a possible insurance fraud case. What she finds is a quirky town full of shifty characters, one in particular that drives her up the wall. Reid is bossy and dominate and makes Tammy think naughty things that she has no business thinking about. Not when she's here to investigate him and especially because she really didn't need a broken heart. Because even with his high handedness and his adorable grumbling, Reid would be really easy to fall for.

But she knows she has it bad when finding out Reid is a shifter bear doesn't tone down his appeal. But someone is messing with Reid's clan and now that Tammy's entered the picture, they've set their eyes on her.

This is the second book by this author I've read and I've notices a definite style when it comes to her characters. Tammy and Reid are both alphas, both outspoken, wickedly sarcastic and possessed of a dark sense of humor. I don't typically go for brash characters but E.L. knows how to write an engaging story and although at times I was a bit put off by the things these two did or said, they still won me over. They were bold and confident and it was a nice change of pace for me. There is a love/hate undertone that is manipulated to make great sexual tension and sparks the heat between the MCs. I'm definitely open to reading more from her, this series has a few interesting characters I wouldn't mind seeing get their own stories.

For those of you who don’t know I absolutely adore Eve Langlais books. She is on my auto buy list and everything I read by her I love. So trust me when I say Kodiak’s Claim takes the cake! It is my favorite book by her and probably my favorite shifter book EVER! It is full a suspense, sarcastic humor and my favorite, wonderfully written steamy scenes. Seriously after you read this, you might be willing to make the trek to Alaska to find your own horny…. Umm I mean ornery shifter.

I love that Eve wrote a full figured woman who doesn’t give a damn that she likes her food. Often we get full figured women who aren’t proud of themselves and have no self-esteem, so Tammy was extremely refreshing. Not to mention funny as hell!

“Since the day Tammy, the chubby city girl dropped into Reid’s arms, she’d done nothing but wreak havoc on his life, body and emotions. She’d also shot him. In the ASS! With silver buckshot no less, and it fucking hurt.”

That quote shows you just how feisty Tammy is. I mean, hello, she shot a huge Kodiak bear in the ass with a shotgun. Yes she did make it up to him after the shock of realizing Reid was the bear but she that took guts… or a really strong fight response. Lol

Reid was a great alpha. He did want needed to be done for his clan. He even thought about not mating with Tammy because he was worried that they needed better from him. Then he realized if they didn’t like it then they could kiss his ass because he was the alpha. Also he was a huge Kodiak bear so chances are no one was going to take him on because he fell for a human.

I really loved the twist that Tammy went through at the end. It made the people who didn’t want to give her a chance, no choice but to accept her. It also made Reid look great because he wasn’t the one who wanted her to go through the change.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series because I think Boris is going have his hands, er hooves full with Jan. Foxes are full of sneakiness to get their way. Lol

Hoo boy.

Found at the Audible 2-for-1 sale and remembered kind of enjoying this story before when I read the Kodiak Point anthologies? This one has not aged well for me and lost what little charm it had. Langlais' cranked out stories tend to be hits or misses for me and this one is pretty close to a miss, largely for issues she struggles with.

- Not every fat character needs to be focused on their fatness every moment of the day. Most of us strangely manage to forget about it unless an obstacle comes up for us. Like, I do not sit around constantly ruminating on the composition and size of my body while I'm doing other things. And unless it's with someone who is openly fatphobic or made a crack about my body before, my immediate response to everything isn't to assume my body is the issue and sulk about my fatness. This one is no where near as bad as Midlife Mulligan—the worst offender to date (I still can not see or hear the word "carbs" without twitching)—but it's pretty constant in this story. Just. UGH.

- Too many cliches in here. Again, quickly churned out fiction rarely reinvents the wheel and often uses word-for-word cliches. This one gets really heavy handed with those.

- Reid is less hot and more a weenie. He lacked likability or redeemable traits to temper the alphahole in him.

- None of the jokes land in this one. Oof.

So.

Real rating 2.5 stars on this one, for nostalgia value.

Not bad read: 3.5 Stars

Reid is super hot and sexy but a bit of a hard-ass. I guess this comes with the territory when your the alpha bear of your clan of mixed species shifters.

When Tammy travels to Alaska to investigate some suspicious insurance claims, she never expects to find Reid. He's so bossy and tells her nothing permanent can come out of their tryst. She, however, cannot deny her heart, and Reid comes around eventually.

Really enjoyed this one. A very feisty h and a badass alpha bear.

We had fists, frying pans, silver buckshot and that was before she'd known him 2 days. LOL. Teach him to sneak around and change into a bear.

Looking forward to Jan & Boris's story.

Reid runs a shipping business but his trucks are going missing so when Tammy from the insurance company comes to investigate his claim, he's not expecting to feel instantly attracted to her.

Tammy got rid of her cheating boyfriend who put her down because of her weight. Now she's investigating an insurance claim when she meets Reid and his grandmother.

At first Tammy finds Reid to be big and intimidating but staying in his house with him and his grandmother has its advantages. She ends up seeing a lot of him and getting to know him better and he can't seem to stop flirting with her. Things are going well between them when she see's him change from bear to man and back again. Reid and his people are all shifters and now Tammy knows about it. Frankly she takes it better than I thought she would under the circumstances.

Reid fights his attraction for Tammy because he knows that being the alpha of his people means he should mate with a shifter but the connection he feels for her is intense and when she leaves and ends up missing, the bear in him really comes out.

This was so much fun and I really liked the twists that happen at the end of this book. These two fight their attraction at first but then they admit that it's more than just attraction. Some of the scenes between these two made me laugh out loud because they were so funny at times. I love Eve Langlais and will continue to read hr books.

Ehh, there wasn't really much to this. I don't think there was anything necessarily *bad* about it, it just wasn't all that great. The start was okay, the set up was fine and the same could be said for everything beyond that point. The main leads didn't really have any chemistry so I found myself hesitant to back their relationship - not to mention that everything occurred within about 3, maybe 4, days. I also found the whole think Ursula and Jan did to be stupid, it just felt like a cheap way for the author to make the main leads realise their interest - no thanks.

This entire book just felt like it was setting up for the next, which is okay in small quantities, but with this one, just nothing felt real.

Not to mention every two seconds Tammy would be going on about being chubby. That would be fine had it been a plot point but it just wasn't. We understand that she's giving men a break because her ex's had been judgmental about it, but that wasn't really an issue when Reid came into the picture. He was fine from the get-go. I'd also like to mention that it really bothers me that the author made such a big deal out of the chubby thing but then went and got the least chubby woman to ever exist to be on the cover. No. Thanks.

Overall...it was meh. Even the sex scenes were boring and repetitive.

Oh man, I love grumpy bears!! This is great start to the series, which is sure to be a must buy!

Reid is deliciously Alpha and cluelessly male! He tries to fight the attraction, some silly shifter human no-no nonsense. Thank fully he just can not resist sassy curvy gal Tammy. I love their banter and the whole dynamic they share. Beware frying pans! LOL

The love comes fast here, but it is a true mates kind of thing, so I guess I buy into it. I can see it growing from the affection that is apparent and the combustible chemistry they share. There is plenty of hawt and heavy steam to get your engines revved!! Have a bowl of ice cream, a cold shower or your fella handy! Whoa mamma, things are definitely detailed and smexy!

The narrative is mixed giving you the POV of the leads as well as the bad guy. I am not sure about how awful he really is, something that might show itself later in the series. The side plot is a bit murky. I could see where things were headed, but they were too vague at times. I expect that is to keep suspense for things to come. I did enjoy the plot and the get together for the couple, it was just too short. I wanted more of the build for the resolution, maybe later.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Chandra Skyye, who was fabulous. I loved her energy through the read and the life she gave the characters. Her tone was perfect for delivering the snappy snarky dialogue. She kept the men just gruff enough to be real without going into the realm of caricature. Her pace is nice if you like to listen at regular speed, I like to punch things up to double, where things are still enjoyable. I will definitely be looking for more of her reads and hope she stays with the series.

I am so very thrilled to see this author in audio, because I really miss reading her books! I wish I had more ebook time, but now I only have to worry about how fast they will be recorded!

*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! 4.5 Stars! to "Kodiak's Claim" Kodiak Point #1 by Eve Langlais. This is the first in this series and the first book I read by this author.

I enjoyed this book even though it read a bit slow at first while the author was setting up the story. When the pace picked up I really got into it! Not only was I enjoying the romance aspect, I found myself very curious to find out who or what was causing all the trouble. The author did a good job building the mystery and suspense. Although this novel can be read as a standalone, has an HEA, and the trouble the H/h find themselves in has a happy resolution, the villain is still at large. With each new book in the series, the suspense continues to build and unfold with new mystery and drama.

The introduction to the series tells the story of the town's alpha, bear shifter Reid Carver and the curvy, beautiful human who turns his structured world on its axis.

Reid is a Kodiak bear shifter and the alpha of his town of shifters and not a man you want to piss off. Reid is also the boss of the shipping company that financially keeps the small, secluded Alaskan town thriving. But recently there has been trouble; the company trucks are being hijacked en route and the drivers are missing. In order to make up the losses, Reid files insurance claims.

Tammy is the insurance adjuster sent to Kodiak Point to investigate the suspicious thefts of Reid's trucks. Of course she is not thrilled about having to travel to the isolated Alaskan town, nor is Reid thrilled at having her unexpectedly show up to investigate.

Although Reid is instantly attracted and protective of Tammy, he doesn't immediately act on it. There are too many secrets he has to keep...one that's beary big! :)

Until danger forces Reid to reveal...

There are six books in this series, including a Christmas novella that I can't wait to read.

Up next..."Outfoxed By Love."

“There are times in a shifter’s life when you run into a person and there’s like a bolt of lightning. A sensation of rightness. Desire. Need.”

Tammy was sent to Kodiak to investigate the insurance claim that seems suspicious. Little did she know she was in for some adventure.

I love this story and I enjoy it as much. It was light and funny and humorous I was actually laughing out loud at some of the scenes. Ah, it’s like the events are replaying in my mind while I am writing this. There are so much fun between Tammy and Reid.

You know you love it when it’s a shifter romance because there’s that all-consuming need that is inexplicable, the desire to be with each other, the violence and the off the charts sex scenes. Check for this novel.

One thing that held me back for giving this a 5★ is that I don’t really like it when the hero’s going back on what he feels because of whatever issues like what his people would say or whatever. Fuck that. If you’re an alpha you’ll do what you want. Fuck the other people, or bear shifter or whatever.

But anyway, I love the whole shooting the hairy ass scene. Hilarious!

What a fabulous start to a new series! I can't wait to read more.

"No eating people. The first rule a shifter learned, right after don’t lick the electrical outlet." One of my favorite quotes!

I have to admit to having a soft spot for bear shifters in general, but Reid is a great addition to the genre! He and Tammy were so much fun and the story line is new to me. Always a plus when you have read as many shifter books as I have. :)

I really enjoyed how the story unfolded and the villain is a true wack-job! I also like how Eve leaves me wanting more at the end of the story without it being a cliffhanger. (I hate those) I seriously can't wait to read the next one in the series!!

So if you like your bear shifters Alpha and your heroines strong and quirky and enjoy reading a heck of a suspense story, I think you'll want to give this book a try.

Eve is one of the few people that I am still accepting books from in exchange for an honest review. She is just that good that I take the time to read and review them as quickly as I can.

Someone is sabotaging Reid Carver's shipping company and as Alpha and shifter, he doesn't want any outsiders involved figuring it out. Of course he had not planned for Tammy, an insurance investigator to show up unannounced and hitch a ride on one of his trucks. A truck he had setup as bait to catch the saboteur.

When all hell breaks loose, Reid shows up and decides to deal with Tammy. He had not expected his bear to come out and want to protect Tammy, or the fact that she is adorable and sassy. Reid decides they should have a no strings tryst, after all an Alpha can't mate a human or can he?

Very fun, Tammy is a hoot and inquisitive which leaves Reid stumped half the time. I was cracking up through out, looks to be another fantastic series by Eve Langlais.

I pretty much only read MM books but wanted a Shifter story and there aren't as many options so went with an MF book. It was enjoyable but lacked that something more I was hoping for. I don't think it was bad writing just wasn't want I wanted.

J'ai nettement préféré cette héroïne, pas TSTL. J'ai beaucoup aimé ce livre et les interactions, ainsi que l'humour.
(P.S.: cette fois c'est sûr, pas d'autre livre d'ici la fin de l'année lol)

This is a great new shifter series by Eve Langlais. She is known for creating a fun, hilarious and sexy stories, not matter what creature the character is or turns into. I was first introduced to Eve with Lucifer's Daughter (Princess of Hell Trilogy), which I highly recommend.

This book starts of with our human heroine, Tammy, grilling a steak over the belongings of her ex-boyfriend who not only cheated on her, but constantly called her fat. Tammy isn't the perfect model looking heroine that we see in a lot of romance books, she is a little on the heavier side. I love that Eve is willing to make her heroine a "real" woman who eats and is not a size 2.

She is forced to go to Alaska to look into an insurance claim that our hero has filed about several trucks, full of supplies, that have been disappearing along with the drivers. She meets the owner of the truck company, a man named Reid. Reid is former special forces military. Oh, and he is a shifter, Kodiak bear, to be exact.

While in Kodiak Point, Alaska, Tammy meets Reid's grandmother, Ursula. I love this woman. She is a great character, even though she doesn't have a huge part in this story and I don't think we will see much of her in future books. She is a wily one.

Back to Tammy, she is a tough girl for being a city girl in the backwoods of Alaska. She at one point hits Reid in the head with a cast-iron frying pan. Then goes on to shot him in the ass with a round of silver buckshot, while he is a bear. When he shifts back to human, she does help to dig out the shots.

This book is a great read for anyone who likes to read shifter books. It was a ton of fun and a great new shifter world. Book two is out and book three will be out later this year. I have seen the author post on Facebook about book four. You can bet that I will be purchasing all of these on release day.

Tammy is an insurance adjuster sent to Alaska to investigate claims submitted by Beark Enterprise. The CEO Reid Carver suspects that someone is trying to take over his Kodiak clan by stealing his transports, but the insurance company wants to insure his claims are not fraudulent.

Tammy is a sassy gal, who had an impromptu barbecue using her ex-boyfriend’s belonging when she found him in bed with one of friends. When she finally meets the Kodiak bear shifter’s alpha, Reid, sparks flew. As Tammy and Reid tried to figure out what was going on with his transports, Tammy never let Reid run roughshod over her. She gave as good as she got and quickly found herself nicknamed “City Girl”. When Tammy got kidnapped by the bad guys, Reid was forced to face his feeling for Tammy and figure out what that means for him and the Kodiak clan.

Honestly, the narration was not good. It’s not the worst, but it made the book slow and the monotone narration made the story slow. It was an okay beginning to a series but it wasn’t so engaging that I had to read the sequel immediately. I have read shifter books that were so engrossing that had quickly got the subsequent books. This book was average, but I will eventually read book 2.
