Another quality eBook from Chapel Library. George Mü My Journal shares many incidents from his life that are most instructive for the Church today. Müller remains one of history’s great men of faith. In these personal accounts from his own pen, he shares with us a biographical sketch of his early life and specific incidents spanning the years from 1830 to 1863, including his early days in ministry up through caring for thousands of orphans. These selections were gleaned from the journal that Müller kept throughout his life by HeartCry Missionary Society; the principles contained herein have been used of the Lord to shape the ministries of both it and Chapel Library.
George Müller (born Johann Georg Ferdinand Müller) was a Christian evangelist and Director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England, cared for 10,024 orphans in his life. He was well known for providing an education to the children under his care, to the point where he was accused of raising the poor above their natural station in life. He also established 117 schools which offered Christian education to over 120,000 children, many of them being orphans. On 26 March 1875, at the age of 70 and after the death of his first wife in 1870 and his marriage to Susannah Grace Sanger in 1871, Müller and Susannah began a 17-year period of missionary travel. He travelled over 200,000 miles, an incredible achievement for pre-aviation times. His language abilities allowed him to preach in English, French, and German, and his sermons were translated into the host languages when he was unable to use English, French or German. God used him mightily all over the world and always provided for him everywhere that he went. In 1892, he returned to England, where he went to be with the Lord at the age of 92.
A sweet booklet of excerpts from George Muller's diary compiled by HeartCry Missionary Society, and sent by Chapel Library. It was interesting to read of Muller's life before conversion, and his doubts afterward, of waiting on the Lord's provision despite many faithful instances. Recommended
Chapel Library offers free literature up to $20/month (you pay above that) and possesses a wide library of credible materials for Christians. https://www.chapellibrary.org/
PS I did not read the kindle edition, I read the hard copy available for free at Chapel Library via postal mail
What was so amazing about this book was seeing the transformation of George Mueller. Preconversion he was a lover of money, greedy, a thief, a liar. After his conversion George Mueller was fully dependent upon the Lord to provide for his every need, he poured himself out for the orphans that he served, steadfast in prayer and confident that the Lord would answer his prayers.
I while back, I have learned about George Muller and the things he did as a believer. I was inspired by his story and the great work he had done. When I saw this booklet on Amazon, I knew I wanted to learn more. The journal begins with his early years, the life he had led, and how he became a believer.
"How long-suffering was God at this time, not to destroy me at once! And how merciful that He did not suffer me to be tried before the police, who easily would have detected that the whole was a fabrication! I was heartily glad for many reasons, but particularly on account of this latter circumstance, to be able soon after to exchange the school for the University."
"At the same time it appeared to me right, that henceforth I should ask no man, not even my beloved brethren and sisters, to help me, as I had done a few times according to their own request, as my expenses, on account of traveling much in the Lord’s service, were too great to be met by my usual income."
His faith is a remarkable example of what a person can do when you trust in the Lord. This is an awe-inspiring journal with a few nuggets I could learn from within my own path.
How amazing to read actual accounts from the journal of George Muller! The book was small but so very informative, as Mr. Muller tells of his own life, from his rebellious youth to his life of greatness as he submitted to God's purposes, which in turn positively and eternally affected many people in his lifetime and even today. Wherever you are in your walk with God (and what could be more important?) the book can show you the way to step out of a dissolute life and instead become a person God can use in great ways. You'll be wanting to read more about his man... and His God!!
I’ve always been fascinated by the faith of George Muller, so when I came across this book, I couldn’t wait to dive in. I wasn’t disappointed. What an inspiration to read about Muller’s fervency in prayer and temptations to doubt despite how many times God had come through. It reminds us that even though he was a great man of faith, he was human and subject to lose heart just as we are. His personal words of testimony were such a blessing, and I walked away from this read with a renewed passion for prayer and a greater desire to trust in God for all things.
...though I believe this little bookshelf could be strengthened greatly by including a little more background to who George Muller was. I was already familiar with his work and story, but if I had not been, I would not have benefited very much from reading this. If you do not know about George Muller, you would be better off reading a brief biography, even one found on the Internet, before reading this. Once you know something about him, this book will make much more sense.
He relied on God totally for himself and his orphans
This short little book was good. It talked a lot about how God provided constantly for George Mueller and his work of serving orphans. My only complaint would be that it follows the same pattern throughout the whole book on what was given. It became a little redundant.
What a gracious God is our God! The account Muller gives of his life shows how God can take a wretched sinner, call him to Himself, and use him for His glory. This also shows how God truly does provide for all of our needs so that he receives all glory.
Actually more like two narratives. The first: a very candid story of Muller's youth and conversion... which was quite surprising to me. The second: remarkable stories of trusting faith and provision during Muller's ministry. I had long heard of Muller; this brief collection from his journal is an easy and worthwhile read.
This short read has strengthened my faith. One thing that strengthened me was that Muller lets the author know that his prayers were not always answered quickly. Sometimes he had to pray for 19 years in regards something to come to past.
When we pray to God " Give us this day our daily bread", seldom are our cupboards empty. George Muller, on the other hand demonstrated faith in the provision of God hourly, daily and yearly.
My 3 biggest take-aways are : - We are saved by grace, coming from the state of wretched to saved - Religiosity doesn't save us from q depraved way of life. Only God does - The Exercise of prayer and patience and no wavering faith regarding God's daily and timely provisions
It is not exciting nor is eye eye opening but it is beyond powerful to read about one of the Lord's own give his testimony and live through his life's work. To read about a completely selfish man transform into the definition of humility is awesome. Definitely read this book.
This is a great short piece written by George Muller about his walk of faith in the area of provision. Though I don't agree with all of his beliefs, his life and work with orphans is a great example of faith in a loving God. A very encouraging work. I give it 4 stars. I can recommend for any age.
