When profits come before lives, justice becomes personal

Set against the haunting backdrop of Florida’s ravaged phosphate fields, Bone Valley, the third installment in the Jack Kendall Mystery series, is a gripping thriller of greed, corruption, and one man’s relentless pursuit of environmental justice—no matter the cost.

Florida, Summer 1982—Investigative journalist Jack Kendall never expected an anonymous tip to lead him into the heart of Florida’s Bone Valley phosphate industry, where corruption, environmental destruction, and murder go hand in hand. But when he uncovers a series of unsolved killings linked to a powerful phosphate company, he realizes he's stumbled onto something far more dangerous than he imagined.

Teaming up with police reporter Bobbie Jackson, Jack races to expose the truth in newspaper articles while facing relentless threats—from corporate executives to a vengeful enemy from his past. As a Category 5 hurricane barrels toward the coast, the stakes skyrocket. Toxic spills threaten entire communities, and the body count rises.

With time running out, Jack must navigate a deadly landscape where greed outweighs morality, and those in power will do anything to bury their secrets.

Will Jack expose the truth before it's too late? Bone Valley is more than just a story of corruption and greed—it's a call to action, urging readers to confront the devastating consequences of environmental destruction. Dive into this electrifying thriller and uncover the price of justice in a world where profit often outweighs morality.Praise for the Jack Kendall Mystery

“Jack Kendall, while impetuous and sometimes driven by irrational thoughts, is relatable in so many ways, such as his desire to enjoy life, work hard, and seek a future that meets his dreams—that is, until trouble calls for him. Mr. Greene does an outstanding job describing his characters, physically and emotionally, highlighting their virtues and vices.”

Jay B. Greene

Author | Investigative Reporter | Storyteller

I spent more than forty years as an investigative reporter, chasing stories across police beats, healthcare companies, government offices, and courtrooms. Today, I bring that same instinct for truth into my fiction—writing crime novels and thrillers rooted in real-world drama, where the stakes are high, and the consequences are real.

I was born and raised in Sarasota, and I still live there. I studied environmental science and journalism at the University of Florida, two fields that continue to shape my work. Over the course of my career, I covered healthcare, government, crime, and environmental issues for newspapers across the country, and I still freelance for publications in Sarasota and Detroit.

My fiction reflects that background.

The Jack Kendall Mystery series follows an investigative reporter who uncovers dangerous truths others would rather keep hidden. These stories move from Florida to Jamaica, Bogotá, and beyond, blending international intrigue with the gritty reality of journalism. The series includes Mountain Crossing, Becky, Bone Valley, and Nokomis Hospital, with the next installment, Breakthrough Lies, scheduled for release in August 2026.

At the same time, I’ve taken a different path into the unknown with the Tim and Peggy Smith Space Adventure trilogy, a family-driven science fiction series inspired in part by a challenge from my two sons. Beginning with Danger From Space and continuing with Flight to the Stars, these novels explore discovery, resilience, and humanity’s place in the universe. The next book, Children of the Stars, is set for release in late 2026.

Whether I’m writing about crime in Florida, corruption in the real world, or exploration beyond the stars, my stories are driven by the same idea that guided my career in journalism:

The truth is never simple—and it’s always worth pursuing.

I may be biased, but I believe this is Jack Kendall's greatest investigation and most significant challenge to date. I hope you enjoy the in-depth exploration of journalistic ethics, the challenges of getting stories published, and the environmental damage caused by phosphate mining and fertilizer production in Florida. That said, I finished this book in October 2024 just as Hurricane Milton was bearing down on the Sarasota-Manatee region, specifically Siesta Key, five miles from where I live, where this story is set.
