Can a normal family survive The Zombie Apocalypse?
When zombies rise up and start eating the living, Ryan Knight is watching it happen live on his big screen TV. But, that quickly changes as zombie fiction becomes zombie reality and the danger hits home and he struggles to keep his wife and two children safe.
With no training and no option, they have to learn to work together while trying to gather supplies, barricade the house and help others. The zombies are everywhere and they are relentless in their pursuit of human flesh. And, they’re not the only threat...
Ryan Knight is not a Navy SEAL nor an Army Ranger. He’s just like the rest of us. And, he’s trying to keep his family alive during The Zombie Apocalypse.
Excellent apocalypse book! Very "real" feeling - many of the steps that Ryan Knight took are logical steps I would have taken in a desperate situation. The only thing I would change is adding chlorine to their survival kits - I know the "straws" promoted in the story say they filter out pathogens but having worked in a water plant using nano and ultra filtration units, we still chlorinated the water. I have personally suffered from a giardia infection and was put in the hospital with it and I have no serious health issues. Giardia and crypto sporidium are some of the most serious water diseases facing North Americans. The emotions were real, the characters so likeable you hate to see them die off. I'm looking forward to reading the next adventures of the Knight group
I thought this book was great! Many of the zombie books now focus on characters who have military training or who are on the level of the preppers we see on television, so it was refreshing to read about how a regular guy and his family would handle the zombie apocalypse. I was also thrilled with the level of humanity present in the story--there was a sense of togetherness and compassion for others mixed in with the desire to survive. I felt like I was right there with Ryan, his family, and the rest of their group, and I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster the entire time I was reading. I can't wait to see what happens next!!
I am a tough book critic. I know within reading one or two pages if the author is going to capture my attention and keep it. At first, I was a bit skeptical about the Zombie Apocalypse. I was like, am I really going to engage in this being an adult male in my 50's? I was presently surprised at how easily Stephen Beard captures the audience with his writing. I feel as if this book would be required reading should this actually happen. Oh my gosh, I had NO IDEA. LOL Good reading people, get a copy and get ready to kill some zombies.
An enjoyable read, it felt like the protagonist was a bit too genre savvy at times but I did like the pacing (I don't really get why that's such a big complaint for other people. It can't be 100% action all the time.) A minor pet peeve was some of the redundant conversations and phrases (if I hear the protag say his "slogan" one more time I will scream, 11 times is enough) but I will definitely read the rest of this series.
I really enjoyed this book---it was easy to get into and enjoyable to read---a practical zombie book I guess. There were quite a few spelling and grammar errors-and they get pretty annoying---but not enough to take from the book as a whole---
