After the events of Sired by Stone, but before Cruel Winters, Margaret Mallencroix--better known as Nevele--finds herself approached the Aurorinian Church for a job. For what task? Escorting a young reluctant mystic named Jeané Demaine, who, after accidentally mentioning she'd heard the voice of their god, is being unwillingly groomed for sainthood. Within the week, she'll be the figurehead accompanying all that propaganda the church is already having printed up. Just have to get her to the central temple alive and picture-ready. Emphasis on the unharmed part. And oh, there's a slew of people who want her dead, by-the-by. So do be careful.

Great.

Any other day of the week, Nevele would turn down the loons and their so-called holy mission straightaway. But one look at Jeané and it's plain to see the girl isn't exactly keen for becoming a saint at sixteen. That, and fanatics sure have a knack for persuasion. Like with guns and such. All right, so maybe just the once; even it does mean having to take a jaunt through the worst, gang-patrolled and disease-riddled sections Gleese, it's (probably) better than an early grave. And so together they go, the ex-royal stitcher and her charge, the mopey living deity.

Although, admittedly, who better than Nevele for the job, right? After the all-too-recent fight with the Odium in Geyser, Nevele's strings--and what she can do with them--have accumulated a fair bit of renown. You might even say they've become Storied Threads.
