Memories cling to us like moisture from a fog, transforming us in ways we can't imagine. Monique Waters can't help who she is--neither can her siblings, Michelle and Ricardo. All three grew up in the shadows of the Waters' throne, learning to swallow nightmares and digest fear, pretending to be normal but silently suffering. All three of them are stronger because of it; all three of them are devastated by it. Even Armand is inextricably linked to the Waters' in a way that no one but Pete Waters knows. And it is possible that, because of the Waters, Armand has suffered most of all. To understand the ending of the Daughter of the Game series, you must first go back and learn the beginning. Discover who the Waters really are and the actual price of inheriting the Waters' throne.

Have you ever been caught up in a web that was not of your making? Have you fallen into plans that were not your own because that is what is expected of you? Do you know the trouble that lurks in the shadows? Are you prepared?
Meet Monique and her unique family, The Waters. Monique’s father Pete has several children by different women but has commitment issues. He loves his children and his family goes by a creed of Waters Forever. They believe that if you are not a Waters, you do not matter. This can be a good thing and a bad thing for all of those involved. Monique and her siblings go through many trials. They see many things that young children should not say. They are exposed to a world that we think they should not be exposed to but it’s their true reality. It’s not a reality show but it is definitely happening.
Fast forward some years and Monique and siblings have grown up over the years. They went through trials and experiences that have shaped their lives and viewpoints. They experience love, hurt, loss and other emotions that make them human.
I give this book three stars due to some of the transitioning and details. You watched Monique and her siblings go from children to teenagers to adults. It was easy to follow but I was looking for other details that I felt were missing. For example, they went from young children to young adults without a smooth transition. The ending left me looking crazy and I was looking for more and there wasn't more.
Truly a talented author. You'll feel a connection with the characters Ms. Kai makes them realistic, makes the story realistic. You can't help but to relate with certain things. Love the DOTG series!
This book was everything I waited for and more. I loved how Kai told the background story of the characters. Army and Mo are so cute together and I hope true love prevails with the ending to the series. Keep of the good work. The scenes were vivid and action packed and your writing technique is superb. This is exactly what urban literature needs.
Thanks for giving us the backstory. My only critique would be the few grammatical errors that could have been prevented. Otherwise, your books are well written. Your way of telling the story makes me feel like I'm right there. Looking forward to reading part 3.
