When a science experiment goes wrong, Ramsey wakes up in the body of a rat. Fleeing Fort Pine’s Military Base, he takes refuge in the kitchen of Ratcliffs, a high-end restaurant in Ghostlight Falls. Scavenging for food and dodging danger, he resigns himself to life in the shadows, until she walks through the door.
Charlotte is new in town and looking for a fresh start. Ratcliffs, with its cozy atmosphere and perfect ratatouille, quickly becomes her favorite escape. She doesn’t expect to catch the attention of the charming busboy—or for her presence to stir something unexpected in a certain furry onlooker.
Jeremy never wanted to be a busboy, but the job funds his bodybuilding dreams. When a rat unexpectedly takes the reins—tugging his hair to guide him through kitchen disasters—Jeremy finds himself grateful for the unusual partnership. Especially when he spots Charlotte dining alone. With Ramsey guiding his hands, Jeremy sees an opportunity not just to survive the chaos of the kitchen but to please the woman of his dreams.
With tension simmering and emotions boiling over, the three must decide if they’re willing to share this unconventional romance, or if jealousy will ruin the perfect recipe.
G.M. FAIRY is a #1 best-selling, romance author who dabbles in Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and all things whimsical. She's best known for Get In My Swamp and Pounded by Produce. Her specialty is taking the stories we all know and love and ruining them in the best way possible.
Have you ever wondered, “What if Ratatouille had a throuple subplot and was also deeply cursed?” No? Well, same. And now I’ve read Romanced by the Rat, a book that answers a question no one sane has ever asked. I feel like I’ve seen behind the curtain of the universe and immediately wished for blindness.
So, the premise: a military experiment gone wrong turns a man into a rat. He ends up in a fancy restaurant, where he somehow becomes the spiritual and possibly sexual backbone of a love triangle involving a patron and a bodybuilder/server. It’s basically Ratatouille meets Fifty Shades meets “what if humanity didn’t deserve books.”
The writing was… chaotic. Grammar? Optional. Pacing? Like a toddler on espresso. The story had potential in that “so-bad-it’s-good” way, but unfortunately, it skipped the “good” part entirely. I finished it only because I needed to know how low literature could sink. Spoiler: we have reached the Mariana Trench.
I said I wanted to read outside my comfort zone this year, and I’ve succeeded…spectacularly. I am now miles outside that comfort zone, clutching my pearls and whispering apologies to Pixar. Do I regret it? Absolutely. Do I kind of respect my own terrible curiosity? Also yes. Icarus flew too close to the sun; I read Romanced by the Rat. Same energy.
If anyone has recommendations for how to bleach one’s brain without voiding the warranty, my DMs are open.
Thank you to the author and BookSirens for providing me with a copy of this book. All opinions shared are my own.
I was so delighted when I found out Ghostlight Falls is a series, yay! More books to enjoy for me and this other instalment did not disappoint. I love that the authors change and they all come together to form one twisted series. This freaky Ratatouille inspired romance was amazing and absolutely satisfying. I loved how the story panned out and created a beautiful environment where each member could thrive. I 100 % recommend.
This is the fun and filthy Ratatouille reimagining I never knew I needed. Dare I say: it’s chef’s kiss perfect…
Ramsay is a soldier who’s unwittingly transformed into a rat while retaining his memories and human capacity for speech, thought, and reason. After escaping the facility, he takes refuge in a fancy French restaurant in Ghostlight Falls, but even in this paranormal-friendly town he’s an outlier.
When he witnesses a gorgeous but completely inept waiter floundering not just in his job, but also at shooting his shot with the beautiful brunette patron who’s all but offering herself up on a platter for him, he decides to team up with the clueless Adonis to help him woo the fair Charlotte.
It’s a little Cyrano de Bergerac, a little mmenage, a lot weirdly perfect, all the hallmarks of a GM Fairy novella. Of course it’s absurd and hilarious, but it’s also sweet in the best of smutty ways.
I was generously provided an advance reader copy from the author and BookSirens, and I’m pleased to share my honest and enthusiastic review.
G.M. Fairy’s books always promise a fun and steamy read, and Romanced by the Rat is no exception. I adore how she takes well-known stories and gives them an adult twist—you never quite know what you’re going to get, but it’s always a good time.
This one tells the story of Charlotte, Ramsay, and Jeremy, and honestly? Their dynamic is everything. It’s heartfelt, funny, and incredibly hot. These three don’t just work together—they need each other. The way they complement one another makes their romance feel so natural and satisfying.
It’s also a quick read, which means you can gobble it up in one sitting. By the end, your heart will be full, your cheeks will hurt from smiling, and yep…you’ll probably need a fan for the steam. A perfect blend of cozy, cheeky, and spicy.
Special thanks to the author and Booksirens for the gifted copy 💗
Imagine ratatouille, except he’s a waiter and the rat was once a human. This was a cute story with an antisocial people watching rat, a bodybuilder who fumbles his words, and a woman who spent her life repressed by her parents. It had some darker themes, but I enjoyed it.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: nonconsensual voyeurism (as rat character instructs human character during sex), stalking, lab experimentation, eating a worm, controlling parents (past), parental estrangement, negative body related self talk
Did I ever ask myself what if ratatouille was spicy? No of course I didn't but damn was this a fun read. I definitely had to suspend my belief when the FMC was somehow okay with a rat being the third in her relationship but honestly fair play lass.
The writing was great, the plot was a lot of fun, and more importantly the vibes were incredible. This was short, sweet, spicy, and I will definitely be reading more G. M. Fairy after this.
I am really digging all these authors coming together to make small monster/paranormal town romances lately! I am a monster/creature lover and enjoyer of weird, small towns, and Ghostlight Falls is looking like it’s going to be fantastic if this first read of mine is any indication!
Let’s start with me not being a why choose girlie but loving this MMF romance so freaking much!! The characters as a threesome were so good together, each of them having their own very important role. I loved how they were all lonely in their lives, but once they came together, they just fit so well and didn’t feel so alone anymore.
I loved how Ramsey was the brain of the group, often putting everyone on track, guiding all of them through things both big and small, and ultimately being the dominant because of his leadership. Never did I think a rat man could get it, but this rat man COULD GET IT! I also loved his sarcasm which had me cackling at various points in the book!
I loved how Jeremy was the dreamer and heart of the group. Jeremy had these dreams and ambitions that he definitely had the spunk to achieve, but no guidance on how to do these things; enter Ramsey and their Ratatouille-esque relationship.
I loved how Charlotte was the spark to the whole thing!! I loved that she was running away and really trying to find herself. As an outsider to Ghostlight Falls, I found she was incredibly understanding and resilient when it came to the shocker of Jeremy and his little friend. I loved that she ran away from this super strict upbringing and didn’t let it define her judgement of others in Ghostlight Falls or what her future relationship with these two looked like.
Speaking of relationships, I loved each of their relationships as twosomes and the three of them together. I loved watching Jeremy’s and Ramsey’s relationship grow from reluctant allies to friends to starting to have feelings for each other to actually acknowledging and acting upon those feelings. It was so freaking delicious! I loved Jeremy’s and Charlotte’s tentative relationship of trying to get to know each other first, but not being able to control themselves around each other because of their sexual attraction. Lastly, I loved the cerebral relationship that Charlotte and Ramsey had, especially Ramsey’s sweet notes to Charlotte.
I loved the science parts of this, like a soldier turning into a freaking rat! And the transitions that came later in the book as time went on. I really dig when science comes in; it makes my inner nerd happy to have my prefrontal cortex tickled a bit.
Lastly, this thing was HOT AF! I really enjoyed the idea of Ramsey controlling Jeremy to pleasure Charlotte in this conduit type fashion. It was interesting, had a bit of a voyeuristic feel to it, and was full of dirty talk because of Ramsey having to tell Jeremy what to say. The final intimate scene was so fantastic and breathtakingly hot that I think I’ll reflect on it for a while haha.
Thank you to Booksirens and G.M. Fairy for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
All books in the Ghostlight Falls series will be releasing nearly DAILY starting 9/15 through 9/30, AND(!) they will be available on KU!!! Make sure to check them out!!
Yes, this spicy novela is inspired by a Pixar classic and I FREAKING ATE IT UP. Ya know, the beginning felt believable enough to me and I loved the paranormal energy of Ghostlight falls. The collaborative effort behind this whole series is so cool!
What I loved most is how they depicted Jeremy & his mental block struggles. His frustrations with his comprehension and ability to communicate concisely felt so relatable. I ached for this beefy waiter.
This book is for the girlies who would love for someone to take control. Whether it’s decision fatigue or feelings of incompetence, let our sweet little rat take the reins and take the lead. Enjoy the ride & Bon appetite🐀✨
Listen. LISTEN. We all know by now I’m no spring chicken when it comes to GM Fairy’s wild storytelling the woman has me in a chokehold and I love her for it. But THIS? This book? A military experiment gone wrong, poor Ramsay turned into a rat, then tossed into a full-blown spicy Ratatouille but make it unhinged situation? I was NOT prepared.
We’ve got Jeremy, who is basically a two-legged natural disaster in waiter form (boy couldn’t carry a breadbasket without causing structural damage), and Charlotte, who just wanted a normal dinner out. Instead, she gets Rat Daddy Ramsay himself skittering in with dom energy and, uh… guidance. And when I say guidance, I mean GUIDANCE.
And can we pause actually STOP for the spicy scenes?? HOT DAMN. 🔥 I never thought I’d read the words tiny rat balls in my life, and now not only have I read them, I’ve reread them multiple times against my will because my brain keeps replaying it like a cursed TikTok sound. I snorted, I spat my drink, I choked on my own saliva, and then I cried laughing because HOW IS THIS MY LIFE.
But that’s the magic of GM Fairy somehow she takes what should be absolute chaos (and it is), sprinkles in puns that make you groan while cackling, and still gives you this weirdly sweet, strangely tender little love story. Like… why did my heart go “aww” right after I screamed “NOOO” at rat smut???
I don’t know. I don’t have answers. I only have tears of laughter and a new favorite quote burned into my retinas: rat balls.
This one was wild in the best way. Ramsey’s situation is definitely unique, and I loved how even though it’s short, everyone felt real and had their own thing going on.
Charlotte’s finally out on her own and done with hiding in closets just to get some action, and Jeremy’s just this adorable hot mess who needs a little direction. The three of them together? Total chaos, but it just works.
And listen… that scene where Jeremy’s going down on Charlotte and she grabs his head—only to find out it’s Ramsey under the hat? I was not ready. Absolutely unhinged and somehow still hot. Then Charlotte freaks out and bolts, which honestly made sense, but I loved that Ramsey went to find her after. That’s when it started to feel more real between them, and it just hit right. These three grew on me fast, and I’m obsessed.
I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’m excited to see where this new series goes. It seems to have the same potential as Cambric Creek with the “zootopia” style where anything is possible creature wise.
A smutty ratatouille retelling which was a fun read. Ramsey signed up for an experiment through the military only to wake up as a rat. Looking to fill his boredom he helps a waiter become good at his job and helps to seduce one of the patrons there.
This was kind of similar to pounded by produce in some of the tropes and things that happened, but otherwise an enjoyable read.
This was a lot of fun. It was silly, it was goofy, but it also had heart. This had really good pacing and it never felt like one character got more screen time over another, it was all very equal. Charlotte, Ramsay and Jeremy also had their own distinct personalities which made their bonds so much more special.
Now, into the nitty gritty…one character is a rat. Well, a man inside a rats body. While I knew this going in, it did make things slightly uncomfortable at times. Nevertheless, we persevered and I still enjoyed myself at the end of the day.
I volunteered to review a free ARC of this book for BookSirens.
Ratatouille Retelling Military experiment gone wrong MMF Hair pulling Voyeurism
Like any G.M.Fairy book, I question what I just read and why I found it so entertaining. Did this book ruin the movie Ratatouille for me? Yes. Will I ever look at Remy the rat the same? No. But isn’t that what you get for reading G.M.Fairy’s books?
Ramsey was clearly the star of the show throughout the whole book. And without him, Jeremy and Charlotte never would have gotten together or even last without Ramsey. Even though I was a little disturbed by his rat thoughts, he was still very kind and loving. I think thats what I liked most about him. Overall the book was bizarre, yet funny and enjoyable.
Romanced by the Rat comes out September 17th. And is part of a 12 book series, with each book being written by a different author, that takes place in Ghostlight Falls.
Thank you to BookSiren and G.M.Fairy for this ARC and giving me the chance to share my review.
Welcome to Ratcliff’s. Your waiter will be with you shortly to spill your drink on you. G.M. Fairy does it again with another silly, spicy, read. A why choose with MMF, a sentient rat, a himbo with a heart of gold, and a spooky town? Eat your hearts out rats of the Twilight Sewerposting group.
My compliments to the chef/author for sending me this eARC.
gm fairy is the queen of puns and silly smut! this is my second book by her and i want to read them all! she is such a great writer and has an amazing way of retelling childhood favorites into such cute and genuinely beautiful romances. this was really fun and kinda made me want two boyfriends 🤭 delightful and very charming! i love ghostlight falls and i am so excited for the rest of this series!
You know what? Is this truly something I’d normally say is a 5 star read? Absolutely not. But for what it was, I think it was perfect. Lots of laugh out loud jokes that weren’t too heavy handed. The comedy was very much led by the situation itself, which I really appreciated rather than letting it get too cheesy (no rat pun intended). This was my first G.M. Fairy book, but it won’t be my last!
Loved this! I love all of GM Fairy’s writing but her MMF books have been my favorite!
Soldier Ramsay gets turned into a rat, Jeremy is a terrible waiter, and Charlotte moved to Ghostlight Falls at just the right time. These characters were fun to read and the story was a great reimagined version of Ratatouille. 5 stars!
This was a fun and steamy Ratatouille reimagining and I absolutely loved it! I’m so pleased with how the ending turned out, I love a good happily ever after!
