The Boudoir #1

Fourth Wing Parody: Fifth Wing

Rate this book
If you've ever read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros and thought, “This could use more sarcasm, questionable decision-making, and a protagonist who truly doesn’t care about your expectations,” then Fifth Wing is the book for you. This parody takes the dragon-riding, enemies-to-lovers tension and high-stakes brutality of the original and transforms it into a hilariously absurd adventure starring Vile Soreinbut and Xadence Marriott—two characters who seem designed specifically to challenge every trope they encounter.

Vile is not your delicate, breakable heroine. She’s confident and far too self-assured for the brutal world she’s been thrown into. Instead of constantly questioning her worth, she embraces her flaws, her weight, and most importantly, her curves. When she bonds with the dragon Torn (who has absolutely no patience for nonsense), the entire Riders' Quadrant is forced to accept that Vile is here to stay, whether they like it or not.

Then there’s Xadence Marriott, who is supposed to be brooding and mysterious but instead comes off like a guy grappling with a sex addiction. He has all the typical traits—the smirk, the leather jacket, and the tragic backstory.
This parody doesn’t just poke fun at Fourth Wing; it skewers the entire genre. From overly gory training sequences to dragons who enjoy marijuana, Fifth Wing takes every serious moment and turns it on its head. There's a romance, but it leans more towards “Vile emotionally tormenting Xadence until he admits he likes her” rather than “forbidden love.” The sex scenes are laugh-out-loud funny.

With sharp wit, unapologetic satire, and characters who refuse to fit the mold, Fifth Wing is the fantasy parody we never knew we needed. If you love dragons, chaotic heroines, and watching overused tropes be completely dismantled, this is your next read. Just don’t expect it to take itself seriously—because Vile certainly doesn’t.

Reid Mockery skyrocketed up the Amazon bestseller lists years ago with her comedic takes on "Fifty Shades of Gray" and "Divergent." Recently, she released new parodies of "Where The Crawdads Sing" and "The Housemaid." Now, she has ventured into the fantasy world of dragons and lust.

Reid Mockery

Reid Mockery is Amazon's number one selling parody author. Consistently funny, he has successfully mocked Fifty Shades, Divergent and now John Green's The Fault In Our Stars. His work has earned a loyal following and he rewards his readers with fast moving parodies, that are short, cheap and guaranteed to brighten your day. Granted, it takes a special gift to be this stupid, but Reid seems to have it by the boatload.

Reid doesn't exactly look like Austin Powers, but he often channels his inner spirit. This image captures what Reid is feeling, so let's leave it at that.

When Reid Mockery makes parodic fun of a book, it is the greatest compliment that book can ever obtain.

He doesn't drink bottled water often. But, when he does, it's from Walmart.

Reid Mockery is so sexy, women buy and read his books by the thousands, just so they can run their fingers down the screen and feel his thick E ink. His words are like poetry, if poetry were entertaining.

He lives an anonymous life in the state of Tennessee searching for the next genre of books to skewer with his wicked sense of humor. Although he has written other books, he is best known for this best-selling parodies that make fun of the best selling books. This ground-breaking work has catapulted Mockery to the top of the Amazon sales charts to which Reid responds, "Yeah, Baby. Yeah!"

Ok, so this is SATIRE….lets remember that. This is ridiculous and the real world slip ins are having me rolling. If you get easily offended, you’re going to say this book is awful. If you love stupid funny and can laugh at yourself…this book is hilarious.

Vile and Xadence are a trip. I love the spin the author put on these two. It follows the Fourth Wing book just as any good parade does with deviations that don’t make sense (in a good way). I like Fourth Wing. I couldn’t get enough of it. I STILL found this funny.

The names are HILARIOUS. Stupid funny and over the top. Signets? Same. Dragons. Same.

If you want a good laugh with stupid funny that leaves you cringing slightly, read this. The writing is actually good. The silliness is just right. Let loose and relax a little. This isn’t a real Romantasy and this isn’t meant to knock your socks off. Just have fun with it and embrace the stupid funny.

REVIEW OF FIFTH WING by REID MOCKERY

First things first-- This IS a "parody" of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros.
PARODY: "An imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.
The author noted that Rebecca Yarros is a great writer, and that finding humor in her work was challenging; and if it was purchased by mistake feel free to return it- no harm - no foul.
You absolutely MUST read Fourth Wing before reading this book.

THAT SAID, If you go into it with these things in mind.... and have a sense of humor... you should enjoy it. If you're a sensitive sort-- don't read it.

Setting: Mudbath Community War College located in "Boudoir". There is a map on first page, but it's hard to read.

Characters:
Vile Soreinbut - the "full-figured" cadet
Xadence Marriott - "broody but perfect" third-year dragon rider
Pain Assos - A "delicate" version of her oldest friend
Jack Barnhole - adversarial cadet
Other cadets - Manhattan Skyline, Sailor Smith, Cayla Swift etc...
General Yarros - Supreme Commander of all Boudoir
A small character nod to Sussex and Markel.
Of course, the dragons: Torn, Sfrail, their "lovechild" Adammit?? ...

I found this book hilarious!! It is a quick read, and from conscription day to the gauntlet & past, I was LOLing in most parts. The signets were hilarious!

The chapter headings were silly & funny: Dragons can be assholes- riders should be very wary of that! Dragons can kill you anytime, anywhere, for no good reason- riders should be very wary of that,,, & their breathe stinks! 60 percent of the time it works everytime! Life is hard, it's harder if you're stupid. (Professor Johnathan Wayne)

There is no Second or Third wing- nobody knows why. Fifth wing was designed for the outcasts. The traitors who stormed the castle on January 6th. Xadence Marriott is in charge of the Fifth Wing.

I found this a hilarious , laugh-out-loud adventure that mocks clichés and tropes; has questionable signet-romance & dragons who love weed. It was a delightful change of pace between some intensive and lengthy books.

Just an FYI for any of you that took a chance on the above book: Fifth Wing Parody... here is the link for my review of book 2 in the parody series: " Purple Flame."

(The Parody of Onyx Storm: "Onyx Snore", will be out in December. Reid dropped me an email about my review... I had let him know that Amazon wouldn't accept it, regardless how I re-worded it.. He said they actually shut his account down for a month!) 😯

I’m all for parody—heck, I love poking fun at over-the-top fantasy tropes. But Fifth Wing (a parody of Fourth Wing) by Reid Mockery completely missed the mark for me.

At first, the absurdity was mildly amusing. But once the author started weaving in real-world politics, I was out. That turned the joke from “ridiculously silly” into “trying too hard,” and I don’t stick around for that kind of tone shift.

If you're okay with wild parody that doesn’t care about nuance, go for it. For me, though? It just didn’t land.

Absolutely ridiculous….and hilarious!

This book is nuts! Funny parody book for sure. All the pop culture references help made it funnier, and I can’t wait for the next one to come out.

Hahaha I recommend this both for people who love Forth Wing, and for people who love to clown on Fourth Wing 😂

”What about Second Wing?” I ask.
“There is not a Second Wing. Only First, Fourth, and Fifth.”
“One, Three, and Four.”
“No. One, Fourth, and Fifth.”
“Why no Second?”
“Nobody knows.”
“That’s stupid.”
“You can take that up with General Yarros.”

The character names were some of my favorite jokes. Vile Soreinbutt, Pain Assos, the list goes on and on. Pop culture references, too. Sabrina Carpenter gets eaten by a dragon. Cayla Swift is in it. But the names on the map really got me going. The kingdom is called “Boudoir” and there are only three places, labeled over and over: Mudbath Community War College, Pouramdal, and Lauderdale Mountains.

It’s a very short read, and it kept me entertained throughout a very long wait at the DMV. There will be more books—this one followed the first book pretty much beat-for-beat, including the ending. Here’s my favorite quote near the end:

Executive Director Yarros can’t write a war scene to save his life. It is now close to the end of the book, yet you still have not participated in a single battle. All he has done is write about feelings, cadets dying, and sex. Who exactly is our enemy and why? Is it Pourameal? Who the fuck knows? I heard about gryphons and shit, but did you read about them in battle? How can that even work? I am getting too old for this shit.”

I'm just not made for satire books. But it is exactly what it says, a parody and satire book. If you don't do well with stupid funny (like Will Ferrell movies) or are offended easily(it makes fun of EVERYTHING!) then this book is not for you. The name changes, some of the chapter excerpts and a couple scenes with Pain Assos(yes that's Dain's name lol) were the only things that made me giggle.

After the last few weeks of dark romance and trigger warnings, I wanted to read something lighthearted. I haven’t laugh out loud during a reading session in forever. This parody had me in stitches and I can’t wait until Purple Flame: An Iron Flame Parody. 🤣🔥

It started off pretty fun and silly but it seemed to get progressively worse after about 50%. There were funny parts but I absolutely hated the smutty scenes from this. I'd give this 1.75/5 🫤

Hilarious, don’t get me wrong, but this rating is where I feel it needs to be. Great book to clear your head and just have a fun read. Felt like I was watching a classic 2000s parody movie and enjoyed the nostalgic feel. Yes, it is satire and PARODY so remember that when going in. The quotes at the beginning of each chapter were ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, had me cackling each time, and I felt were the best parts.

Reads like Fourth Wing got drunk, hit its head, and decided to write fanfic about itself. It’s chaotic, cringey, and wildly un-P.C…. but somehow I still laughed. Probably shouldn’t have. 3 stars because I’m generous and mildly unhinged.

Fifth Wing is the parody I didn’t know I needed. Reid Mockery takes the bones of Fourth Wing and twists them into something absolutely ridiculous, silly, and laugh-out-loud funny. It’s not serious, it’s not deep—and that’s the charm.
If you loved Fourth Wing and want to poke fun at it while still enjoying the ride, this book is pure entertainment. Totally worth it for a lighthearted, clever escape.
