This was the third installment of an all-around fascinating story surrounding the life of a badass female embalmer who's home is the great city of Las Vegas. I adored that this character stood on her own and didn't need a love interest to make her intriguing, dynamic, and powerful. This series is worth the hype, and one of the more fun books I've read it quite some time! Just read it!
Thank you Jeff Smith for the free ARC of your book Fold in exchange for my honest review! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Kailyn Logan has gotten away with murder. Now quite the asset to the Salabarrios cartel, she is readying her next moves. When she comes home to a pair of DEA agents at her doorstep, she comes to the realization that her cover is blown and she now has to choose: help the government take down the cartel, or go to prison for life. As the cartel’s demands get bigger and the DEA gets impatient for evidence for arrest, can Kailyn fight for her freedom and also come out alive?
This was quite the whirlwind of a finale to the Kailyn Logan series! I picked this book up and by the second time I did, I could NOT put it down until I finished it.
Kailyn is the anti-hero that you want to like and root for, but still get angry and irritated with for making the dumb decision of getting involved like she has. You can’t help but admire her savvy as she talks her way through her scheming with the cartel and her smarts put to use in some creative (and crazy) ways.
The Salabarrios cartel brothers are ruthless and despicable, and perfectly written as such by the author. I found myself loathing them more and more throughout the book even more than I did in Whale.
The pacing for the book was perfect, keeping you guessing what was going to happen next and how Kailyn was going to find her way out of the tangled web she created. The last book of this trilogy was continuously action packed and ended with an epic conclusion.
What a thrilling ending for this trilogy! Fold stands out as a dynamic conclusion to the Kailyn Logan series that is full of death and destruction. I was excited to give this one a read and find out how Kailyn battles against a drug cartel. It seems like she would be set up a failure, but she is a force to be reckoned with.
Vegas serves as the perfect setting, and I enjoyed how the author included real details about the city. I also loved how Kailyn uses her expertise to her advantage; the scene in her prep room was action-packed.
Going in, I already knew Kailyn was an anti-hero, but there were times in this book, I felt like she flirted with crossing the line to a villian, a righteous one at that. This sets up an intriguing character. I kept waiting for Kailyn to experience some sort of redemption or “save the cat” (I don’t mean Meatball, who instantly was a likeable character on his own); I mean, I kept waiting for her to have some sort of redeeming quality or action. There were times it felt like her storyline went from “I was bored” to “now I’m rich” and yet, she complains that the DEA owes her or bemoans the situation she is in. She’s a complicated, yet fierce character, no doubt, but I struggled with being invested in her at times.
With that being said, the twists, especially the ending, was a perfect way to handle this complicated persona.
This series is perfect for anyone interested in crime thrillers or a full-of-action, can’t-put-the-book-down kind of plot.
I’d LOVE a prequel or sequel that focuses on Elena!!

This was an epic completion to this amazing series!! I couldn’t put this one down but that was the same for every book in this series!! I love Kailyn’s story. I love the juicy Vegas mob vibes and the seedy underbelly drama that ensues!!! Kailyn is a total bad ass!!! I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book and series with all the twists and turns!!! Check it out!! You won’t regret it!!
I loved this third book! Just like the other two, the storyline felt unique and kept me hooked throughout the whole book. Also like the other two, I was not expecting the ending. Definitely a recommended book and series!
