Martin Luther was an influential and controversial man. He changed the religious and political landscape of Europe. What began as a protest against the sale of indulgences, shook the Catholic Church and led to the Reformation and to Protestantism. This book explores Luther’s life, theology, and legacy. For over 500 years, Martin Luther's life and ideas have been a source of inspiration, debate, and controversy. Luther was a revolutionary, a writer, a preacher, a husband and a father. The latter two as he renounced celibacy. He taught salvation by God's grace alone. Pastors were to be seen as shepherds guiding their congregations rather than mediators of divine grace. His insistence on vernacular services, and biblical preaching made worship more accessible and participatory. Luther also revolutionized church music by encouraging congregational singing. Luther's emphasis on faith, Scripture, and personal conviction profoundly influenced later evangelical movements. Luther fundamentally altered the relationship between believers and the Church, liberating Christians from institutional control and placing faith at the center of religious life. His legacy lasts to this day.
This is a very comprehensive book & an interesting read.

MARTIN LUTHER is a book about Luther and the Protestant Reformation. It is nonfiction and includes some biographical material, but mostly theological theory and Reformation events. It attempts to demonstrate both Protestant and Catholic views on Luther, and the Protestant viewpoint is given more page time and detail. And the book is a bit dry. I gave it four stars because it is both interesting and informative. It’s a solid survey of the topic.

Listened on a whim, only to discover a rather that it was a historical and theological podcast. I enjoyed it a lot! I have heard and read about Martin Luther, but this podcast gave much more information and detail than I expected. I give it a 10 out of 10!
