What would happen if godly men began to lead businesses with integrity, no matter the cost? Or if the divorce rate among Christians dramatically dropped in the upcoming generation? The out-of-wedlock pregnancy rate drops among Christians, and in those cases where is does occur, the father of the baby accepts responsibility for helping the mother and child in every way that counts – possibly even marrying the mother and providing a two-parent home? Is it possible that non-Christians might sit up and take notice, maybe even wonder what the difference was in our lives?
Praise God for leading Mike McCormick to pen this book at this time in history, at a time when we desperately need men who will become faithful leaders in their communities and homes! What a blessing it is to see men who have recognized the need of teen boys in this generation for mentors and as much as possible, their fathers, to come alongside and help them understand the Lord and the call on those maturing to manhood!
Manquest is a spiritual journey in which fathers or strong spiritual mentors lead teen boys to becoming men of faith. It typically would take man and teen about a year, working together with a group of men and teens where possible. During this year, teens are led by men through six Guideposts: Accept Responsibility, Lead Courageously, Pretend about Nothing, Journey with God, Protect Your Heart, and Engage in Deep and Meaningful Relationships. There are also “Six Rugged Truths (that every man must know)” and appendices that suggest group agendas, venues, and other ideas that would be helpful to the fathers/men. Even as an adult, reading through some of these areas and being re-re-reminded of what we believe as Christians and what happens in our lives as we (hopefully) mature into adults is valuable. What the Lord asks for from men as leaders in the home, the workplace, government and the world is incredibly daunting! Without the Lord, none of it is possible.
As a woman, I am not able to fully realize the needs of men or the demands placed on men by their peers and by society. However, as a wife and grandmother I fully appreciate the difference between believing and unbelieving men, and am stunned and saddened by changes in young men since I was of an age to have a first crush on someone. Had the fathers of my generation taken aside their sons and led them in God’s ways and been gut-level honest about their own feelings and lives, the lives of the women who are now becoming grandmothers, then retirees, might be vastly different! And with the continual changes in our society, nation, and world where being a Christian can definitely be hazardous, we don’t know what the future will bring for those influenced by the men that sons and grandsons will become. We do know that it will be even more challenging for them than for us.
That is why I believe that spending a year with this scripturally-based workbook is a priceless gift for each man to give to his son. His future bride and children need it. His future place of employment, city, state, and country desperately need it. I don’t know what it is like to be a man. But I do know how a woman would look up to the kind of man that Manquest could lead a teen to become. Especially if that father of the teen is also a woman’s husband. Every adult, man or woman, can benefit from studying this workbook and learning or re-learning the essentials of our faith.

In a world where men are shown to be weak and feeble minded we need a book to show our men how to raise boys to be the real men God has planned for them to be. The author had thought long and hard in researching and writing this book. I appreciate that so much thought and Biblical knowledge went into this! He teaches men how to stand up and show their sons what a Godly man is all about. There are 6 Guideposts for a dad to accomplish and work through with their sons. Each one is surrounded by Biblical references and backed up by Biblical texts and examples. There are places to write and put your thoughts regarding each question or task. These are deep, wonderfully heart searching, God centered questions, discussions and activities. It teaches them how to tell the truth, stand up strong for your beliefs, show them that they are flawed and make mistakes, protect yourselves against sin, how to pick yourself back up again. At the end of each guidepost is a recommended movie to watch with your son and discuss the life lessons learned, with questions to answer. The book closes with six rugged truths that every man must know. This can be done – you can raise a Godly man! This book gives you everything you need to get going and make that huge step.
This is by far something this culture and society needs for men and their growing sons. We need to build up men and give them the tools and Biblical examples to be leaders of their lives and families! I highly recommend this to any father, leader or even a person who wants to help build up the men in the church.

Man Quest is a workbook experience for a father and his son to do together over a period of time. Broken down into six guideposts, lessons are taught and questions are asked of both father and son. Peppered with scriptural verses, this workbook experience really delves into deep thoughts and shows the Biblical viewpoint versus the world’s viewpoint of a man, who he is and his purpose. At the end of each guidepost there is a recommended movie for a father and son to watch and discuss together. After going through the lessons and exercises there are tips on how to plan a weekend excursion and a sample schedule of activities for father and son to experience together and alone. I think this is a great exercise for a father to become closer to his son and to teach and guide him. The author states at the beginning that this is his love letter to his sons and the reasons why he was moved to develop and write this. The following are the six guideposts which are taught in Man Quest: Accept responsibility, Lead courageously, Pretend about nothing, Journey with God, Protect your heart, and engage in deep and meaningful relationships. I really enjoyed the six rugged truths the author includes at the end, they are great points for everyone. I received an e-copy for an honest review from The Book Club Network, Inc. (TBCN) and the opinions are my own.
I wanted to point out that this book is available in e-book and print as well.

I requested this book because I have 2 grandsons. They are not quite old enough, as I think they need to be about 13 or 14, but I am sure it will be a big help. It has 6 Guide Posts for the boys to help them evaluate themselves and ask questions of the dads or other man that is going through this with them. It is sort of a combination devotional and self-help book. All of this is based on the Bible. It has Biblical references and shows ways to achieve a Godly life. It shows why God wants you to live in a certain way, what can happen if you don't live by God's principles and design. It is NOT a one size fits all type of book. It has places to write your answers and ask questions. I can see how this would be helpful as a once a year type journey. I am really looking forward to when my husband will go through this with my oldest grandson who is a product of divorce. I am thankful I was chosen to review this. I think this is an excellent help for anyone who has boys in the early to mid teen years. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.

Mapquest by Mike McCormick is an excellent resource for fathers to use with their young sons. It is challenging while being practical and engaging. I love the format of the book. There are six guidepost to share with your sons. The guideposts are character traits that are essential to being a godly man. Each chapter describes a guidepost and gives scripture, examples and plenty of space for journaling. I was pleasantly surprised at the relevance of each guidepost and the effort the author made to encourage young men to apply them to their lives. I also appreciated that this is a study that is to be done by the teens with the guidance of their fathers/mentors. At the end is the description of a ceremony that can be performed to celebrate the completion of the program.
I am a mother to sons. This is written for fathers and I believe it would be an effective study. I highly recommend this study which can be done individually or in a group. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network and the publisher in exchange for my honest review which I have given.

I really liked this book. It is a step by step plan to help boys become responsible and godly men. It is a plan where fathers and sons read together, see movies, and do other activities, then discuss questions the author has provided. Part of the program is a group setting for the opening and also a finale celebration. This would be a great book for a group of guys. They could help each other go through the material and share in the celebrations. This is a Christian book so being a godly man is a big part of the maturation process.

As a mom to 2 boy's and having and having 4 very young grandsons I came through reading this book and I found it very interesting and full of not just parenting but parenting in a Godly way. There are 6 guidesposts and each have a Bible Verse entwined in the guidepost. I do think a father/son relationship is awesome but you have to work at it even thorough the times you fail. It is not a give up situation. Very good book with a lot of information.

This was an interesting nonfiction book. I liked many of the ideas that they use to bring teenage boys to adulthood. The idea of the father and son going on a retreat together is very interesting. I received this ebook from bookfun.org for a fair and honest opinion.
