Karol Truman has brought together in one book, Feelings Buried Alive Never Die . . . the best of the best. She not only tells you why you feel the way you feel, but how these feelings all started. She then goes on to tell you how YOU can easily transform undesirable feelings so that they no longer hinder your growth. What a gift!
Karol was a self-published author of three very successful books. Her best seller, Feelings Buried Alive Never Die... has been followed with Healing Feelings... From Your Heart. She was also a remedial counselor, therapist, and a true teacher who was dedicated to assisting others in achieving success in their chosen endeavors, as well as emotional and spiritual well-being.
First of all, the lack of editing was horrendous. There were mix-ups between "its" and "it's," capitalizing of letters to stress a point, weird misspellings . . .
Secondly, the book seemed to claim one thing and then immediately jump to something else without realizing that the one refuted the other.
Third, once I got to the book's trick to unburying feelings, I just laughed out loud. It seemed so quacky, I wondered why anyone would do it. Basically, you pray to your body to find the buried feelings behind physical problems, and then you say something like, "I want to be confident, I feel like I'm confident, I am confident!" Wow. Wow. Wow.
Fourth, I can definitely see how emotional problems can lead to physical issues, but some things on the list were ridiculous, like diarrhea being a sign of running away from something, and back pain being a sign of having a heavy burden.
I no longer have hardly any migraines because of this book! I had been through 10 medications, a couple of doctors, a chiropractor, and homopathic treatment all to no avail. This book is life-changing and will have a tremendous impact on your health if you read it with an open mind. It was a direct answer to prayer for me.
The book begins literally "in the beginning." IN that instant that life is created, the single sperm that penetrates the egg and viola : life! One of the first ideas that really made sense for me was the realization that even at conception -- the developing embryo can feel & those "feelings" are recorded at a molecular level.
The author references the significance of a happy - balanced pregnancy and LOVE from the mother and father are absolutely necessary for the infant to grow and develop in a healthy psychological manner. The angst and/or stress that the infant may feel from the external influences DOES carry over and impact the child throughout their life. It is vital to healthy development to stop and evaluate our "feelings" because they do impact our physical & mental well being.
I refer back to this book on a very regular basis. Truman point or purpose in this book is that every diss-ease has been created by a blocked or out of alignment emotion. Emotion is much like ego or addictive thinking. When the blockage is delt with and released the disease or pain in the body leaves. She breaks down several diseases and simple aches and pains and write the possible blockages. That is why I refer to the book so often is for friends and family to tell them the possible emotional blockages behind what they are going through.
I do agree that suppressed feelings and emotions can cause ailments, but I don't believe that every physical problem is a result of this. I think there are plenty of exterior influences that can cause an illness that have nothing to do with one's feelings. I did appreciate the main sentiment though; one should never bury alive one's emotions, believing they will die if neglected.
This is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read. It discusses the interplay of and the effect that feelings, thoughts and emotions have upon our beings; that we are what we feel and think; that our feelings, thoughts and words become self-fulfilling prophecies. The author suggests that in many cases, if not most, our unresolved feelings [negative feelings] lead to disease (dis-ease) in our bodies and often account for the ailments (however serious) which beset us. The author also sets forth a procedure ("Script") which can assist a person to resolve negative feelings (howsoever long they have existed) and to elimiate them. This enables the person to return to a more harmonious state (his/her feelings, thoughts and emotions become consistent with the true self which comes from God). The Script does not displace prayer but is consistent with a person's need to pray and God's command that we pray. The central theme of the book is one of internal congruence: that by identifying, owning and resolving negative feelings, we become congruent with our true selves (the God-given truth within ourselves), which lead us to a happier, more joyful and harmonious life. In short, we cease to be "double-minded" and become "single-minded". I highly recommend this book to all.
The concept is good, but my first impression in reading was pretty poor. The story in chapter 2 on page 12 about scientists trying to measure the brain waves of a person at the time of death has several things in it that set off alarm bells about the story being a fabrication. Some that I remember now are: * Brain waves for each person being unique? Like a fingerprint? Um? * The machine they were using barely registered a 50 kW transmitter and they expected to record something as subtle as brain waves with it? Really? The equipment required is totally different in many respects. For example radio waves are high frequency, and brain waves are very low frequency. * The description of the setup did not match what one would use to record brain waves. * There was no evidence of experimental design. That anecdote was followed up by a nurse making a patient angry using the same recording equipment. Again, no evidence of experimental design. * Was this a sample size of one? How applicable is that?
So, I went looking for a source. * No footnote or endnote * No sources cited * No index
How disappointing that this book does not come across as reliable.
In the end, science is finally corroborating the fact that love for oneself and for others, as well as forgiveness and letting go create health. Truman's book is in its 13th printing--a classic in the field of awareness of how physical health and mental/emotional patterns that we hold interrelate. Not particularly well written, but chapter 4 is a good overview of Truman's thinking, and the the tables in chapter 17 on types of feelings and chapter 18 on the causes of illness are food for thought (see also Louise Hays' version called "You Can Heal Your Life"). If nothing else, this book allows people to begin to think about how they may blaming everything in their lives on circumstances outside of themselves (family situations, parents, genetics, job, etc.), and realize how important it is to take responsibility for their own health and well-being. Physical, mental, and emotional pain should not be "stuffed" down; if we want to enjoy life, the journey must start with accepting responsibility for ourselves.
This book has been life-changing for me. I have truly loved it, though a lot of it is hard to take at first. The more I read, the more I loved it. a chapter or two later it all started to make sense.
The premise of the book is that negative feelings that we harbor can have detrimental effects on us physically, emotionally, spiritually, etc. The book introduces an approach to help us resolve these negative feelings. These feelings often block us from achieving what we really want in life. As I have sought to clear more negativity out of myself, I have seen some marvelous changes and I am feeling much more peaceful and spiritual than I believe I have ever felt. I love this book and will continue to reference it for years to come.
I remember reading and re-reading the senseless words. By the end i could only grasp at the idea of actually discerning between a feeling and a thought, let alone process how emotion is the effect of them and not the cause. The book goes into a script meditation that I never got around to. It took me years just to make practical use of the foundational concepts but maybe I'm just that hard headed. This book was Heavenly Father throwing me a big meaty bone, I'm still chewing on it.
Opening line: “Of all the languages in the world, the most difficult language to communicate is the language of feelings.” Our body absorbs a lot of these feelings and tries to give us signals that would help us to understand and resolve them if we just knew how to interpret them. Do you have a sore left knee? Well, that might mean you are having feelings of insecurity or experiencing unresolved stress...just one example from the book. There are some truly fascinating ideas proposed in this thoughtfully written book. I use it as more of a reference manual for specific body parts, but it has also opened my mind to different energies found in the body and the potential for healing and wellness that we carry around inside of us. The book also has some great summaries of basic, healthy practices to focus on for a happier life. Example: “Unconditional acceptance of others becomes much easier for those who focus on themselves reforming, instead of always focusing on reforming someone else.” Other main messages from this book are how to identify your feelings, own them, and change the negative ones for positive ones. The writing is a little unpolished, but the ideas are earnest and heartfelt. Good food for the soul if you keep an open mind and just glean what hits home for you.
Hmmm...I just really don't know what to make of this book.
I appreciate the overall concept of dealing with our feelings and in correcting erroneous negative thoughts by replacing them with positive affirmations. But, the wording of "The Script" (her outline for identifying negative thoughts and replacing them with an opposite thought) is very strange to me personally. I could not identify with it.
I can buy the fact that if we are not doing well spiritually/emotionally our immune system may not be at its best, but beyond that Truman's claims are a bit presumptuous for me. Truman has a whole list of ailments and what their probable causes are. I can't go as far as to believe that certain diseases are caused by certain feelings or that one might be unknowingly plagued for life by a traumatic birth. I'm not going to believe that someone who develps cancer is likely to do so because of repressed anger or depression. I can think of examples of people I know who prove that wrong.
I could not read straight through the book. It was too much of a chore. I hoped to get what was good out of it by skipping around.
July 2, 2013: After the recommendation given by several friends on how good this book is, I finally read it. And now I am going to have to buy my own copy! I love how the author correlates health with feelings, and then offers a wonderful tool to process feelings. I expect to find a lot of empowerment from following her "Script".
December 10, 2015: I am still loving and using the Script. Such a powerful resource for health and healing!
Karol Truman has written an excellent book for everyone! As she so clearly explains the trauma beginning with birth, that affects us all in ways we have no knowledge or memory of, to the negative slogans and beliefs we struggle with due to a lack of understanding how to allow spirit to change us.
I just did not like this book. I agree with the notion that our feelings influence our thoughts and vise versa (and, in fact, influence our health), but I do not believe that cancer and other serious illnesses are caused by some sort of repressed feelings or traumatic experiences from our experience at birth.
Life Changing. Didn't read page by page but skimmed and read the things focused on me. If you use this book with Energy Healing it is amazing and life changing. (less)
This book is helpful. It reminds you that no only does what you intake by mouth have an impact on you but also your emotions, your perceptions can have a great impact on your health. This is a book that aft reading it you will use it as a reference.
What I especially liked about this book is how the author covered the entire gamut of aspects of our feelings from generational, DNA, experiential, outside trauma, plus mind/body/spirit and more. She includes a "Script" on page page 95 for self-healing. I typed out a modified copy for myself and pasted it below. I just started using the "Script" and don't have any results to report at this time. I do think that this is a good book to scan to get a sense of the big picture and scope of what influences our health.
Processing Feelings with the “Script”
from Feelings Buried Alive Never Die… by Karol K. Truman
• Oneness, please locate the origin of my feeling(s), thought(s) ______(for example, that keep me from liking and loving myself) _____________________________________________
• Take each and every level, layer, area, and aspect of my Be-ing to this origin. Analyze and resolve it perfectly with the truth of Oneness.
• Come through all generations of time and eternity, healing every incident and its appendages based on the origin. Do it according to the essence of Oneness until I’m at the present—filled with light and truth, the peace and love of Oneness, forgiveness of myself for my inaccurate perceptions, forgiveness of every person, place, circumstance and event which contributed to this/these feeling(s)/thought(s).
• With total forgiveness and unconditional love, I allow every physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual problem and inappropriate behavior based on the negative origin recorded in my DNA, to transform.
I Choose Be-ing ____(for example, liking and forgiving of myself)__________________________
I Feel ____(for example, love for myself and worthy of this love) _________________________________
I AM ____(for example, loving myself) _________________________________
It is done. It is healed. It is accomplished now!
• Thank you, Oneness, for coming to my aid and helping me attain the full measure of my creation. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I embrace and honor Oneness from which all blessings flow.
Note: Before using the Script, breathe through your nose and exhale through your mouth several times. This helps equalize the activity of the brain hemispheres and prevents the mind (left hemisphere) from sabotaging the healing.
Note: The author uses Spirit and God in the “Script.” I replaced it with Oneness. If you use this, you can substitute Jesus, Allah, Creator, Super Conscious, Nature or whatever term you like that represents a higher power or creative energy.
We are all spiritual beings searching to obtain a state of perfection that is already present in us but blocked by the fall of man. We live in a fallen world and we deal with a continual battle within. The battle exists between choosing to resist change and ignore the feelings that stem from our experiences or being mindful of the feelings and listening deeply to the thoughts that have produced the feelings in the first place. When we ignore our feelings, we live in a state of double-mindedness and pain. The pain manifests itself in a variety of ways such as emotional and physical disease in our lives. On the contrary, if we meditate on the thoughts that enter our minds throughout each day, we learn to recognize the source of our discontent and by using stratgies outlined in the book, we are able to actually change our thoughts in turn changing our feelings. It is nothing less than miraculous to find that we ARE in control of our personal well-being in every and any circumstance. Again, while living in the fallen state of this world, we will experience all sorts of circumstances that cause most people to worry and fall. Mindful people view these circemstances as oportunities to practice well being, self-control, peace and above all, love in any and every situation. Praise God for our full present full redemtion and free will to choose if we will live in a redeemed state or a state of pain and suffering. I choose to trust God and allow His spirit to rule in me bringing me closer everyday to what I was made to be.
Book club choice for May. This is why I'm in book club because this is a book I wouldn't have picked up on my own. I thought there were some really good things about this book and I thought there were some things that were a little hard to swallow. I appreciate that this was chosen so I could read something about how positive thinking, feelings, words, and actions help our lives become better. I even tried "the script" out a couple of times and found value in it (especially with potty-training issues!) so it's a win-win! I am looking forward to discussing this book at book club and seeing how everyone else felt about it.
I haven't read this cover to cover yet, but I have referenced it a lot. Very valuable to figure out what the core issues/emotional causes of disease might be. I then use EFT to try and clear these causes.
I needed a book on health for a challenge so I thought this would be as good as any since our mental health is related to our physical state. There were some worthwhile tidbits in the book. There was also quite a lot of mumbo-jumbo which made no sense.
This book was terrible. Almost entirely anecdotal, she purports that repeating her "script" can cure cancer and alter your parents' DNA. I am seriously questioning the sanity of the person who recommend I read this mind numbing drivel. ..... and I like just about every book I read.
If your end goal in life is to be “successful” or get what YOU want out of life, this may be the book for you. Do not read if you want a gospel-centered approach to emotions or struggles in life. Author is pushing a prosperity gospel, not the true gospel. Beware.
I wanted to love this book. The title was intriguing and I heard it referred to in a podcast on trauma that I listened to.
The best I have to say about this book is that the tool it pushes has some similarities with CBT (and has a similar to flavor to some of my EMDR experiences). It encourages you to consider the first time you experienced a feeling or belief, examine your feelings and beliefs about yourself, and counter/replace negative thoughts and feelings with positive ones.
On the other hand, it was a chore to finish this book and I only made it because I feel that it's irresponsible to write a review of a book if you didn't actually read the work in its entirety, and I really wanted this work to redeem itself. I was disappointed.
Feelings, emotions, thoughts and beliefs are claimed to have "vibrations" and "energy" that create and change physical energy fields that can actually be measured using scientific devices.
Two basic premises of this book are that your traumatic memories are genetically stored in your DNA (an idea that is generally accepted as false at this point, although there is research in epigenetics showing that trauma may change the expression of your genes) and that your prenatal and birth experiences cause trauma: "It is important to remember that the dominant pivotal feeling we experience at birth colors all our perceptions of life from that time on, and is therefore the ruling feeling through which we view life - the feeling that compels us to the behavior we exhibit each day." (p 107) There are stories like a man "uncovering" a repressed memory of feeling abandoned as newborn, resulting him yelling, "Baby wants his mommy!! Baby wants his mommy!!" And apparently that trauma was the underlying root of all his adult problems.
It references situations like how one woman was triggered by hearing a song on the radio and didn't know why, and going through the "script" (a short reading where you ask your Higher Self - your actual self, not a higher power - to show you the root of an issue and then resolve it) showed her a previously suppressed memory of having been raped while that song was on. After the simple and quick exercise of going through the script, the woman "found that she no longer was bothered" by the song/trigger. I think trauma therapists would be out of a job if trauma were really this easily resolved.
Another basic premise of the book is this: "The master program in the subconscious must be changed before the circumstances will change." (p 213) So if you are experiencing financial lack, it's probably because you are sabotaging your own finances because you have some inner feelings of not being valuable. The solution is to choose being financially successful. Go through the script, making sure that you affirm, "I choose being financially successful. I welcome financial success with open arms." (p. 205)
The idea that the body and mind are connected is well established. Books like The Body Keeps the Score are excellent at discussing this. But Truman gives numerous examples of how an acute and significant illness was both caused, and then cured, by feelings and their appropriate resolutions using her script. For example, her husband gave himself leukemia by giving up his will to live and surrendering to depression (her specific words), but then she looked up the root cause of leukemia and realized it was a result of surrendering to depression, so they used the script together, ending with "I choose happiness and joy! I feel happy, joyous, and tenacious! I AM happy, joyous and tenacious!" and suddenly he felt better. The next morning, he woke up with kidney problems. Thankfully, she was able to research that kidney problems are a result of trying to control life, being disloyal to self or overly judgmental, feeling emotional confusion, leaving yourself out to please someone else, unfounded criticism of others, etc. and they were able to resolve his kidney problems by talking through the script as well. (p 221 - 223)
The book lists all sorts of emotional roots of physical ailments. Abscesses are the result of wanting revenge or unresolved hurt feelings, acne the result of feelings of guilt and fear of being one's self, AIDS the result of denial of the self and lack of inner peace, allergies the result of suppressed weeping and denying own power, Alzheimer's the result of feelings of inferiority & insecurity and wanting to live in own little world, and jaundice the result of difficulty in loving yourself, just to name a few... (p 226-272)
I haven't finished this yet, but it's full of things that are speaking to me now. It's taken me a long time to read it because I had to digest it a piece at a time. It's starting to come together for me. At least the pieces I need to worry about right now.

This was harder to read at the beginning than at the end. Of course, it was published by a small publisher, so the editing is less than stellar. I know people for whom I don't believe the only cause of their illness was emotional baggage. Although, I do believe that many illnesses can be improved and even cured by dealing with our own emotional "stuff". I want to keep a copy on my nightstand to "work-through" things as I see the need. The script felt a little stiff at first an maybe even a little goofy. However as I tried to make it "fit" me more, I became more comfortable with it as it was written...at least most of the time. It has already changed how I do things. I have also hit on some things that I knew were under the surface and waiting for the right time.
I like this book as most psycho-babble requires you to blame much of your problems on your upbringing. This allows you to heal regardless of when (even intergenerational) the pain happened and allows you to take responsibility for your feelings and emotions.
I was SUPER excited to read this book, and it did not disappoint! I found myself underlining things on nearly every page, and had multiple "lightbulb" moments while reading it. Not gonna lie, though, parts of it were out of my comfort zone, even with all the growth I've had in my life the past few years. This book definitely falls in the same category as things like yoga, meditation, and positive affirmations. If you get weirded out by those things, you may not be ready to read this one just yet. But... if you're willing to be stretched a little. If you'd like to learn more about where your feelings are COMING from and how to deal with and resolve the not-so-pleasant ones. If you're willing to explore the idea that your words, thoughts, and feelings have far- reaching repercussions in your life and can even effect your physical health (or lack thereof)... in that case, I can't recommend this book highly enough! It's brought me new awareness about my own thoughts and feelings, and I'm excited to implement the strategy it suggests and see what happens!
