Hearts #1-6

Hearts Series: Books 1-6

Rate this book
Books 1-6 of the hit romance, "Hearts Series"

Alpha male Brendan Clark wants sex. A lot of it. He's not interested in dating, love, or even getting to know a woman. Not after what happened to him. But Annie O'brien is just the girl who could change his mind, if only he could see past the dark makeup and sarcasm. Fast forward to five years later. They run into each other unexpectedly, again with explosive results. There are people in both their lives who would do anything to split them up, even if that 'anything' is violent and deadly. Jealousy can be cruel, and when it belongs to a friend, it's the worst kind of enemy. There's no way they'll make it through, not unless they have the stuff the greatest romances are made of...

Warning: sexy things are happening in here. Probably should stay out if you get shocked easily.

I could not put this book down. When I read the i love my fire series and was introduced to Brendan I didn't think I would like his character. How Sabrina makes him likable I don't know. But I was rooting for him and Annie.Another great group of supporting friends in this book.I liked this book even more than the i love my fire.I am so glad I got the opportunity to read it.I was not disappointed.I am officially a fan.

Really enjoyed Brendan and Annie's stories. There were a few times I held my breath thinking something was about to happen but things generally went the way I wanted them to. I just love HEAs and Brendan & Annie finally got theirs!

DNF I got to 34% and I just couldn't. Annie loves Brendan from afar while in college. Brendan doesn't know Annie, they've never met. He doesn't even know she exists because she's shy and hides behind being a Goth and I guess that makes her invisible to him. Annie doesn't use common sense and realize what she has for Brendan is infatuation. No, she's convinced that they will be together forever eventually. Even after Brendan sleeps with her best friend, heartbroken Annie doesn't just say, "Well, I was stupid thinking I was in love with this guy who I don't even know." No. Annie completely changes her appearance (because women must change their appearance to get the guy you know), quits school and moves to Italy. She then spends 4 1/2 years with a man who loves her, but Annie just can't forget a man who she never really knew and who slept with her best friend. Really? She then kinda sorta breaks it off with the man from Italy, and moves back to San Francisco where she magically can afford to buy a bar, in the hope that she can find Brendan and start things up with him again. Then when he happens to walk into her bar, she's just the most attractive thing he's seen in like forever, of course, even though he's been a player since his heart was broken by his childhood sweetheart and he's slept with like half the women in the Bay area. So he says he'd like to help her clean up after the bar closes, but after leaving ends up deciding to ditch her, because she just makes him feel things or something. But he just can't get her out of his mind after leaving the bar and instead of ditching her, he goes to the bar. They clean the bar, which was mostly already done, then decide to have sex. Because, back in the day, when he slept with her best friend, Annie had told him off and he couldn't understand why she was so upset, he has a vague sense of recognition. He asks her twice while they are fooling around if they've met before. She lies both times because she thinks to herself she doesn't want to quit! Wrong! You know why you lied Annie? You lied because if you tell the truth this man will know that you are clinically insane and will rightfully run as fast as his legs will carry him away from you. This heroine doesn't need a lover, she needs a psychiatrist!

Great book

I started to put this book down after reading only a few pages because I thought it was about teenage love. I'm just not interested in those types of books. I was pulled away from reading for a while and when I returned I found I had not looked for a different book to read. I'm so glad I didn't put it down. The book was fantastic. After the first chapter I couldn't put it down. The sex scenes were a bit much and way to long but the story line was so intriguing that I just flipped pass all that and loss myself in the wonderful story. The characters were so well thought out and I felt I knew each and every one of them. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I'm not ready for the story to end!

Main characters: Brendan and Annie
Supporting characters: Christiano, Rebecca, Tommy, Mark.
A few chapters were given in Rebecca's POV, Tommy's POV, and Christiano's POV.
The story was told in alternating POV's between Annie and Brendan. This was a series that included six books. Each book was more like an installment. They were short reads comprising as a mini book to compose one book.
I did not like the abrupt subject changes. The characters frequently went from one topic to the next with no transition.
I don't like the interruptions in the storyline going back to the past explaining a moment. It was too distracting. The moment was lost in the reminiscing. One minute it's Annie and Brendan and in the next it's Brendan and Rebecca. What a buzz kill.
On several occasions the dialogue was repeated in different versions from the other characters perspective.
The story constantly changed directions. It was all over the place. The timelines were distracting when the characters would reflect back into the past and then quickly switch back to the present.

Brendan lived with Sara until she moved away to attend another college. Brendan felt douped by Sara. Brendan gave her five years of his life and she threw it away. Brendan became bitter towards women. Brendan no longer was interested in marriage or finding a woman to call his own.
Annie's pined for Brendan to notice her. I'm uncertain of Annie's ability as a character to hold a heavy heart for a guy that she had three conversations with. Brendan and Annie were not friends yet she knew of him and wanted him despite not knowing anything about him. For five years Annie continued fantasizing about Brendan.

Annie's character was delusional thinking she was in love with Brendan. Annie pined for Brendan throughout her college years yet he never payed any mind to her. Annie kept on pining with the hopes that one day he will see her and magically want her. Then one freak occurrence changed his outlook on Annie.
The author seemed to aim for cool characters who were open minded and blasé in regards to their opinions about sex and dating older people. Especially with the awkward sex scenes and the timing of those sex scenes. I found the storyline unusual and definitely out of the ordinary.

Annie seemed to be pleased with her growth as a character yet I was not convinced there was any growth. The time spent in Italy with the older man Christiano did not show any growth. Having sex and living with an older man did not warrant the growth this character explained she developed.
Tommy and Rebecca were unstable characters in the story. Rebecca was only supposed to be a one nightstand yet she held on for more getting attached after six visits spread out in a five year time span. These characters were wild cards used to create drama. Rebecca, Tommy, and Christiano's characters contained random dialogue that were inserted into the story to cause unwarranted drama.

I would have preferred separate books with a separate stories involving the time Anne spent with Christiano in Italy, not these quick inserts with his POV.

An unexpected treasure

Looking back, I can't remember why I got this bundle but I sure am glad I did. Such raw real characters. And having knocked at I understand San Francisco numerous times I felt at home with the context of this story. This is a series that is most certainly romance fiction but read like real life
For lovers of fantasy that may be a problem. However, I find it certainly comforting to know that even fictional characters can stumble and fall, struggle to find their way through the maze of human miscommunication and emotion, seek and find redemption, achieve maturity with its welcome wisdom, and manage to come out OK in spite of the scars. Out of this author's imagination have come people and circumstances that bear a striking resemblance to people I have met as well as having experienced some of the emotional body blows this story embraces. It's a beautiful love story in so many ways yet it never ceases to be great poo funded in relationship reality. A terrific reading experience.

I absolutely loved it. I didn't think this book could top "I Love My Trilogy" with (Jessica,Amber and Nicole), but it did. I connected immediately with Annie's character and felt her pain of being on the outside and not in with the popular crowd, in love with one of the popular boys who was attracted to her friend. Her friend broke the girlfriend code and book took off from there. I could not put it down, it had romance, suspense, crime, etc. It was intense and so good. Sabrina Lacey has outdone her self. I have her other books lined up and ready to read, can't wait. Kudos!!!

Glad I got this as a bundle.

It was a busy, angsty, sexy series that I read in one day!!!!

I loved the various POV's. I especially LOVE male points of view. This author gave us the gut-wrenching, heart-wrenching insight in to the male psyche of the Hero, and a couple of the other males in the story, and it wasn't always pretty.....but they were my favourites!!

I can't wait to read Christmas Hearts!

I loved the Hearts Series Bundle. Sabrina Lacey is one of the few authors that has been able to write a book that has shifting point-of-views between characters that has actually worked for me. The story is exciting and was very difficult to put down. I lost some sleep over this one because I was too engrossed with the story and stayed up too late reading! I would highly recommend this bundle.

I'm glad this was a bundle.

Hunting these bad boys down separately would have killed me. Serials drive me up the wall. But as a bundle I was happy. These books were ok. I feel like it was a little jumpy and angsty but not necessarily in an overdone manner. Just not my style. I was glad for the happily ever after tho.
