I’m not kidding, this was the most astonishingly profound book I have ever read. One of the best books I’ve ever read, no doubt. Top 3 favorite books ever, maybe even 1st place. I’m too stunned to speak. Haunting, horrifying, overwhelmingly heartbreaking, and absolutely phenomenal. I sobbed MULTIPLE times. I could not read this all in one sitting as I could not emotionally process all of THAT in a short period of time. I savored this, I developed a full blown para-social relationship with the characters. Their worries and hardships were my own. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover OH MY GODDDD. I’m going to be forever haunted by this.

ALSO IT WILL BE ON KINDLE UNLIMITED
& I also want to add that while it’s a human trafficking story, it is not a story with sexual assault as a main plot point. Not saying it’s not in the book, but that is not what the story is surrounding.

Human trafficking. Kidnapping. The world can be a terrifying place for the vulnerable.
Beatrice is 24. Down on her luck, she talks to a stranger. Next thing, she’s imprisoned in a house in the middle of the woods. A prisoner whose job now is to be a nanny for kidnapped kids. Kids who are held for ransom. Sometimes held for months; sometimes years.
But for Beatrice, no one is missing her and therefore no one is looking for her. The kind and helpful person she once was, has cast her in shadows. She has become their protector-as much as one can under her own imprisonment. Organized crime with a hierarchy of jobs for those stolen and who have become ‘institutionalized’.

The trauma, the despair, the abuse; the pyschological compartmentalization used to survive.
The brainwashing, the rationalizing. The PTSD. How fear can turn into a mobilizing action and sometimes, with a little courage, can become the will to survive.
This was haunting and disturbing story.
5⭐️

In the epilogue, Greenwood flushes out what human trafficking can look like. It’s usually committed by someone known to the family; it’s not always for sexual purposes -often it’s for doing labour without being compensated. But it’s frightening and demeaning and destructive as many victims are caught up in the cycle of abuse and terror.

Greenwood does do dark. His All the Ugly and Wonderful Things was quite intense too.
Many triggers***

Why isn’t this book getting more hype!?

From the first page, Bryn Greenwood’s words captivate the reader's interest and do not let go until the very end. Tense, atmospheric, suspenseful, and unputdownable. Nobody Know’s You’re Here will leave you sitting, white-knuckled, gripping the edge of your seat, dying to know what will happen next.

The writing in Nobody Knows You’re Here is perfection. Dimensional characters with emotional depth, and a completely original plot make for one of the most memorable thrillers I’ve read in ages.

It’s also important to note that this book is very dark with some super heavy themes such as human trafficking, kidnapping, addiction, sexual, psychological, and physical abuse so this book will not be for everyone. However, even with the dark themes, Bryn handles the topics delicately, including only the necessary details when dealing with disturbing subjects.

If you're looking for a highly entertaining and unique thriller that will stay with you long after finishing then do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this one! Bryn Greenwood is the author of two other amazing works, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things and The Reckless Oath We Made which I also highly recommend.

Oh, Bryn is BACK with this one!
I hardly ever read thriller type books and I don’t think
I’ve ever given one a 5 star review!
I am usually a slow reader but I just devoured this one, couldn’t stay away!
There is such an urgency for escape for the 20ish yr old woman Bernice who was kidnapped, and the children of wealthy parents who were also kidnapped and she was held there to take care of them… till their family’s paid up.
A mansion in the middle of nowhere with a setup you would not believe… and run by a large organization.
Impossible to escape!
Just, Wow!

Child trafficking, violence, and sex are some triggers.

This is a free book on kindle unlimited currently!

This was... dark. Way darker than I expected it to be, despite the many glimpses of hope and humanity.

I need to process more before I say anything else

[I'm just going to rate this 5 stars in advance for all the joy it brings me that Bryn Greenwood will have a new book coming out 😍]

I don't even know where to start.

I began this on a whim - I was already reading something. But, from the second this book was in my life, I was consumed by it.

It's incredibly heavy, right from the beginning. A woman is trafficked, forced to be a nanny of sorts for a nameless organization. She doesn't know where she is, or if she'll make it through any given day.

That's all I can really tell you about the plot!

It's shocking and devastating, but never egregious. Full of care and heartbreak and survival. I was so entirely with the narrator that I feel really out of sorts, knowing I won't be spending time with her today.

Read this one, but check TWs please.

This book was so so good. Dark, twisted, triggering, rage inducing, but also with some light humor to take the edge off a bit.

The book opens up with our FMC already in captivity with a brief flashback of how she came to be in that situation. From there the story immediately takes off thanks to great pacing set by the author. From there things quickly begin to unfold as readers and our FMC realize just how much danger she is in.

I really like how Beatrice's character was written and crafted. She brought this story to life with her personality, and made the story a lot more palatable. Her character development is one of the best I've read in a long time. And her will to survive was truly admirable. The author doesn't shy away from much in this book at all. It is a raw and real look into a world that we often like to pretend doesn't exist. It's ugly and will make you feel things for these characters and the things they had to endure at the hands of the true evil of the world.

I really appreciated the few moments of happiness, that the characters were allowed to have. It brought some much needed relief to an otherwise heavy book. This book made me sweat, swear, tense up, sit at the edge of my seat, tear up and clutch my pearls. It brought out so many emotions and definitely left its mark on me.

Please don't think this is just a shock value story. It's a story about good vs evil, Survival, relationships, overcoming trauma, self-discovery and most importantly healing. This author is now on my radar.

This book includes topics that may be triggering for others.

I didn't think it was possible to make a "psychological suspense thriller" so boring and repetitive, but Greenwood sure proved me wrong with this one. There was also a level of stupidity to the entire plot that made it the reading experience even more unenjoyable.

The beginning/premise hooked me in. Our protagonist, Beatrice, gets kidnapped and suddenly finds herself being forced to serve as a "nanny" for several of the child hostages that the criminal network has also taken. There's a lot of intrigue and suspense at the start, but then the plot goes nowhere; everything drags and there wasn't even really a twist to bring it all together. The majority of the book is just Beatrice taking care of the children and having a weird Stockholm syndrome romance.

ROSE 🌹: BEATRICE AS A NICE GIRL/PUSHOVER

The only theme I somewhat enjoyed was that Beatrice was positioned at the start of somewhat of a pushover, and we get to see her transform through her ordeal while also still retaining the good heart that made her who she was. Her internal struggle of her morals versus her survival instincts was pretty interesting to watch. I like a protagonist who is just genuinely a good person.

THORN 🗡️: BORING, NO TWIST, MINIMAL ANSWERS

This was frankly just incredibly boring. As I mentioned, the majority of the book is just Beatrice taking care of the children and developing relationships with them, and those relationships weren't written well enough to be compelling. I kept checking my kindle percentage to see how far through I was and then groaning when I realized I still had so much further to go. This was "put-down-able."

My second two thorns are kind of the same. There was never really any satisfying twist, and we get minimal answers about this whole "criminal network." Not only was the whole premise of this enterprise pretty unrealistic, it just wasn't developed well enough. It kind of felt like what a six year old thinks a kidnapping ring is.

One of the best captivity/locked room stories I’ve read!

This book is incredibly haunting while somehow also having an undertone of found family and HOPE.

4 stars may be a little low but I blame goodreads for now having quarter/half star ratings.

NOBODY KNOWS YOU'RE HERE by Bryn Greenwood

Thank you @bryngreenwood & @podiumentertainment for my gifted ARC! This book blew me away and I'm so grateful for the chance to read it. 💗

📖 Beatrice thinks she’s finally caught a break when a stranger offers her a job, but instead she wakes up trapped in a secluded mansion, cut off from the world and forced to care for children who are prisoners too.

💭 This book was impossible to put down! Greenwood’s writing pulls you right into Beatrice’s story, capturing her vulnerability and her strength within these horrific circumstances. This gripping page turner brilliantly explores the brutality of kidnapping/trafficking rings, and the complicated relationships that develop within. It’s definitely heavy and hard to read at times (check TWs), but the emotional depth and unforgettable characters make it a 2025 standout for me!

🎧 While I read most of this with my eyes, I listened to the last quarter on audiobook. It was SO well done!! Kristen Sieh -- with her range of voices, accents, and languages -- was perfectly cast and knocks it out of the park!

Whatever your preferred format, you can't go wrong. Nobody Knows You're Here is a MUST READ!

This book had me on full alert from start to finish!

Bryn Greenwood is an amazing storyteller. I read her controversial book, All the Ugly and Beautiful Things, and honestly trashed it for the subject matter and I’m curious how I’d feel about it today. That being said, when I see @baker_reads and @tbretc sign a book its praises, I am going to give it a shot!

Go into this book knowing nothing! The title alone—NOBODY KNOWS YOU’RE HERE—is telling enough. A stranger’s kindness leads Beatrice into a nightmare of captivity in a remote mansion. With armed guards enforcing brutal rules and children’s lives now at stake, she realizes no one is coming to save her. To escape, she must become ruthless enough to outwit her captors, no matter what it costs her soul.

Beatrice is the ultimate protagonist to root for, but ultimately there were so many multifaceted characters that you were rooting for by the end of the story. Even some characters you’d never expect to root for! This book is dark and grim, thought-provoking and provocative, and very very trigger warning driven. Take BA Paris’ Behind Closed Doors and combine it with the movie Taken, and you’ll get NOBODY KNOWS YOU’RE HERE. I will be thinking about this book for a long time. STARS: 4, PUB: out now!

I enjoyed this easy-to-read yet gripping survival thriller about kidnapping, trafficking and trauma — it’s genuinely unsettling how quickly humans can adapt to even the most extreme situations. That said, the romance element didn’t work for me; it felt out of place given the setting and pulled me out of the story.

The main reason this didn’t earn a higher rating is probably because I couldn’t help comparing it to her earlier novels, All the Ugly and Wonderful Things and The Reckless Oath We Made, both of which I absolutely adored. Those novels felt more literary, with a stronger focus on relationships and emotionally intense themes, which is where Bryn Greenwood really shines for me.

The Story: At a low point in her life, Beatrice jumps at what seems like a lucky break — only to realise she’s walked straight into a nightmare. Cut off from the outside world in a remote mansion, she has no one to call and no easy way out. With everything stacked against her, she’s forced to rely on her wits and resilience to survive as the situation grows more dangerous by the day.

Wow! What a phenomenal, underrated, highly-recommended thriller!! Nobody Knows You're Here is one you simply do not want to miss!

Beatrice Meadows has hit rock bottom and is running out of options when she meets someone who convinces her she’s finally caught a break — a chance at a fresh start. Desperate and with nowhere else to turn, she accepts her help… only to be drugged and wake up imprisoned in a secluded home where obedience is demanded and escape feels impossible. Forced to care for the other children held captive by an unnamed criminal organization, Beatrice finds herself trapped in a world built on secrets, fear, and absolute control.

But Beatrice refuses to disappear quietly. As she bonds with the children and begins to understand the rhythms of the house, she starts crafting a dangerous plan. Outsmarting her captors will require courage, but surviving the consequences may require even more. Can she play the long game long enough to save herself — and the others?

This was such a gripping, atmospheric thriller about resilience, survival, and the will to reclaim your own life even when the world believes you’ve vanished. I could not turn the pages fast enough.

Everything felt so vividly real that I often felt like I was one of the captives myself, right beside Beatrice and desperate for any sliver of freedom. The emotional journey this book put me through was exceptional — every chapter hit a different nerve. I was invested from the first page, clinging to hope and desperate to know whether any kind of happy ending might be waiting for these kids.

The tension had me constantly on edge, questioning every character’s intentions. I couldn’t shake the feeling that Beatrice was being manipulated, as if the entire situation were a twisted setup designed to break her. Even at the very end, I braced myself for one final cruel twist. That level of emotional immersion is, to me, a clear sign of phenomenal writing.

If I had to mention a small drawback, it would be the subtle romantic thread between two characters. In a situation this dire, it didn’t feel entirely believable to me — I kept thinking romance would be the last thing on my mind. Still, it was a minor issue and didn’t detract from how much I loved the story.

This is easily one of my top five reads of 2025. If you’re looking for a novel that hooks you from the very first line and keeps you fully invested, look no further. It’s heavy at times and does contain some triggering content, but the journey is powerful, unforgettable, and absolutely worth reading. Up until this novel, I had never read any work by Greenwood, but I will definitely keep my eye on anything she releases moving forward, she's an author to watch out for!

OK. That was stressful.

I really wanted to like and hype this book up. I’ve seen fellow readers gush about this one and I wanted that reaction—that effect. However, after a few chapters, it just did not resonate with me.

I felt bad for Beatrice; it was depressing to be in her head, to see how she hit rock bottom. That café scene really broke my heart because it happens in real life. Some people lack emotional intelligence and choose to ignore someone’s suffering rather than help them out.

The idea of being captive in a remote location and being forced to take care of abducted children is a nightmare. One particular scene involving a child, although heavy, was completely necessary to set the tone of the danger Beatrice was in.

A lot of people would enjoy this book. Too bad it did not work for me.

I still remember All the Ugly and Wonderful Things which, if you know me-that’s impressive. I pretty much forget things very quickly. When I heard about this and the premise, I knew I needed it asap.

I was entranced with this novel from the get-go. Captivated, breath held and furiously flipping pages. The characters are so dimensional and immersive. As Greenwood’s past novel, this tackles very heavy subjects. It delves into all sides of human trafficking (not just sexual) and all the emotional PTSD that it leads to. It is dark, extremely haunting and incredibly unique.

There are sides of humanity and glimmers of hope as well… Greenwood does a good job of playing with your emotions so that this will live rent free in your head. Probably one of the best books I have read in a very long time. I don’t know why it isn’t all over Booksta because it deserves to be.

 ✰ 3.5 stars ✰

“We all get to choose, not our situations, but how we respond to them.”

As much as I would have liked more of an in-depth dive into the dark organization and bring them to justice, I understand why the author left it vague and unanswered. For they are not just one entity that exists. It is a bitter and harsh reality that people like them who engage in child trafficking cannot simply be narrowed down to one, when the emphasis of the plot itself was to show the resilience of one individual, whose entire involvement was for an entirely different purpose.

“I knew how to be quiet and obey the rules, but I was afraid of the unknown.”

It also makes you realize the importance of having people in your life who care about your well-being. Twenty-four-year-old Beatrice Meadows was an easy target, a helpless prey, growing up in the foster care system and forsaken by everyone, maybe because she was so nice that she never asked for more, a Bambi. And that's how Talia (I actually do wish there had been some retribution for her deceit) was able to use her compassion as her weakness and ensnare her in a bleak trap, that even thinking of escape was futile.

But, Beatrice's goodness is also her strength; and her unbreakable spirit not to lose courage, when her only concern is the young kids who have been entrusted to her made her someone you cared for, as the inner turmoil of emotions waged within her. The instances when she cautiously attempted calculated risks, despite the danger, were believable and made you care for them - desperate for them to find a way out. The anxiety and despair is suffocating, and you feel it with every page as time passes with no hope of rescue.

“Do whatever you have to do to survive.”

Even if it means shutting off the part of you that makes you human with a sense of morality, in order to live to see another day, to protect the ones you love. It's that lingering hesitancy of how to respond to one's captors - groundskeeper, Aiden and warden, Isabel - if they ever once showed a glimpse of kindness that made Beatrice feel she had someone on her side. So, if the ending spared these two some mercy, I cannot fault it; they were victims in their own right - prisoners of unfortunate and dismal circumstances.

The middle did suffer slightly, with her ill-fated and bittersweet romance with Aiden, and a bit of monotonous redundancy in the pacing, which delved into the daily minutiae of the captives' days. But, there's no way to sugar coat how dire the situation was for these helpless victims, in a world too cruel and uncaring. How they sought comfort and solace with each other amidst the horror and abuse, when the ever-prevalent fear never wavered, the doubt of their future never dimmed, and the thought that every breath could be the last for her and these poor stolen children followed them with every breath.

“If anyone gave a shit about you, I’d send your body back to them, but nobody’s looking for you.”

Despite the anticlimactic ending with a bit of a stretch to its closure, it was an immersive read that may not be for the faint of heart, but portrayed the sensitive and disturbing subject with a lot of care and consideration. The writing was solid, certain character developments strong sans the goons, and Beatrice - Beatrice was the strength of the novel. Even as the cruel truth of time taunted her that Nobody Knows You're Here, she grew stronger with her fierce desire to protect and save the young kids entrusted to her. She suffered, but she endured.

"This is the only way off the second floor. It's always locked, even when I'm up here. You can't escape, so don't even think about it."

Beatrice is kidnapped and forced to be a nanny for children held hostage while their parents are blackmailed. Her survival instinct is her strongest asset, and she never stops seeking escape despite her dire situation. Beatrice forms a friendship with Adam while being held captive and maybe it's something more? Is he a victim too, or another captor manipulating her?

Y'all I could not put this down once I started. It sucked me in immediately and didn't let go of its chokehold. I never knew what would happen; it's utterly unpredictable! Bryn Greenwood brilliantly crafted a tale of multifaceted characters with depth that are in a complex situation with no easy black and white answers. The subject matter is tough with mentions of child abuse and sexual trafficking, though nothing is overly graphic. I was conflicted the entire time about the people involved, decisions they made and actions that were taken; my emotions ran the gamut! It even made me view my own circumstances in a different light.

Kristen Sieh's superb performance was CAPTIVATING and I often forgot I was listening to ONE narrator. The voices she used for the male characters and the children of different ethnic backgrounds were all UNIQUE! The vast array of conflicting emotions she conveyed for Beatrice and Adam made their interactions some of the most compelling scenes. If you're an audiobook fan this is a MUST LISTEN!

NOBODY KNOWS YOU'RE HERE is a gripping story of resilience and perseverance in an untenable situation under extreme duress. The moral and ethical questions make this a perfect choice for a book club. With themes of autonomy, empathy, forgiveness and inner strength, this will stick with you long after you've finished. Just make sure you have nothing else to do once you start this intense and suspenseful read!

What an odyssey—gut punching, emotional, turbulent, twisty, all presented with unflinching prose. It’s a thriller, but with so much tension and suspense it felt beyond the traditional sense of the genre. If you enjoy dark, complex thrillers with extraordinary character growth, look no further.

The audiobook performance is incredible. Highly recommend.

This book contains: kidnapping, drugging, human trafficking, sex trafficking, sexual violence and rape, suicide, child abuse, child murder, cancer, domestic abuse. I think that covers it, but seriously, it’s intense.
