Simple yet Exotic

I read over every recipe in this book, and if you are one of those people who seek exotic and intense flavors, this book is for you.

Every meat available at the market was covered with a reasonable number of recipes as well as vegan. The recipes were well drawn out and about a quarter had pictures of the finished product.

The meals illustrated were lovely, but unfortunately not for me. Some of us have husband who prefer a mild seasoned meal and I am certain these would not be consumed anyone in the house besides me. For more adventurous cooks, these are mostly not complicated and the author even tells you how to make two meals at a time in the crockpot and how to preserve the second. I thought this recipe book was mostly well done.

A Kindle Unlimited gem! I’ve tried 6 of the recipes in this cookbook. Each one was delicious. Bonus? Cooking two meals at a time and freezing one for later is a time saver.

I feel very conflicted about this book, half if me wants to give it 3 stars and half wants to give it 4. I am an avowed slow cooker lover. I use my slow cooker multiple times a week. However, I always reach for vegetarian and vegan books like those by robin Robertson. Unfortunately, my partner is allergic to soy and I needed something for him. The idea to cook double the meals in the same slow cooker by using liners is BEYOND BRILLIANT. 20 stars out of 5, fantastic idea!!! But these recipes... Where are the veggies? Even the recipes that claim to have veggies in them usually only have 1 or two, or maaaaaaaaybe 3. Onions, potatoes, and maybe carrots. The recipes look fine but seriously--my partner is an omnivore not a carnivore. I am sure we will end up using this, once I tweak the recipes to be more balanced.

Seriously, how often does this author poop if this is how she eats?? Inquiring minds (don't really) want to know, but I am just sayin!

Huge disappointment. Glad I got it from the library and didn't purchase it. The idea is great, but in order to fit 2 separate meals into one crock pot you need a huge one. So for me with only a 4 qt cooker I had to do only one recipe at time.

Made 5 different recipes from this book, following the instructions to the T. All were soggy and severely lacking in flavor. I kept hoping well maybe that recipe was just a dud. Nope. Not the case.

So the America's Test Kitchen slow cooker recipes involve a few extra steps of preparation but make up for it a thousand times over in texture and flavor. I'll stick with them.

At first, I was terribly confused by the format. There were recipes I might want to try someday, but I'm a little over slow cookers right now.
