Billy Graham was an American evangelical Christian evangelist and an ordained Southern Baptist minister. Graham is best known for his evangelistic missions or “Crusades.” He believed God knew no borders or nationalities. Throughout his career, Graham preached to millions around the world. He met and prayed with every U. S. president from Dwight Eisenhower to Barack Obama.

Graham authored 34 books, including his memoir, Just As I Am. In 1983, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Ronald Reagan. In 1996, Graham and his wife, Ruth, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award Congress can bestow on a private citizen.

Graham married Wheaton College classmate Ruth Bell Graham in 1943. They had five children ( Ruth Graham, Gigi Graham Tchividjian, Anne Graham Lotz, Nelson, & Franklin Graham) and made their home in the mountains of North Carolina. They were married for 64 years before Ruth’s death in 2007. Graham died from natural causes on February 21, 2018, at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, at the age of 99.

Billy Graham was a phenomenal evangelist. He preached with passion, conviction, and power. I have never really listened to his sermons in the past, and I now see why he was so impactful. He was surely gifted. Great compilation of sermons.

Thank you very much Net Galley and the publisher for this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

A gifted speaker in many ways. I listen to him on XM radio. I disagree with some of his translations but they are few and his passion and knowledge stick more with me and encourage my own faith.

I really enjoyed listening to the sermons. I love how passionate Billy Graham was about the Gospel. I think the only issue I had with the sermons were how the role of a wife was overly flogged and not much was addressed in terms of the role of a husband. Which has been an ongoing issue in the Church for a long time. We focus so much on what a woman should do when she’s married and not so much on what the man should do, how he should lead or be of service to his house. That was my misgiving with the sermons but I can also understand that sometimes some of these things are cultural contexts. So, based on the culture at the time when the sermons were preached, how the role of a wife was viewed vs the role of husbands. Still, I believe that we have evolved so much and now have a better understanding of how women should be treated in marriage. Hopefully, we are unlearning what we should unlearn and are looking at marriage through the lens of the cross and Jesus’ union with the Church.

Truly a historic speaker, Billy Graham is someone I had heard about but never actually heard first-hand. I really enjoyed listening to his impassioned sermons. In The Essential Sermons of Billy Graham, Volume One, Collected Sermons from the 1950s-1960s you can really imagine how powerful his preaching with conviction was. I loved his focus on the family and strengthening marriages. He packed venues over many decades, and it’s wonderful to have access to what it would have been like to attend.

There is minimal narration, as it’s mostly spoken sermons from Billy Graham, but Jim Kirkland provided a great introduction.

Thank you to NetGalley, HCCP & HCF Audio, Thomas Nelson, and the narrator Jim Kirkland for an ALC of this wonderful compilation of The Essential Sermons of Billy Graham, Volume One.
