Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

What an action packed and amazing introduction into a new series of books that are also connected to characters from previous series by both Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips. I have read some of the connected stories that the main and side characters come from, but there are also some previous books that I haven’t read. I had no trouble jumping in and enjoying this one. Just know that you will be introduced to many characters as a starting point in this novel and some do have connections to other books by these authors.
I loved this story! It took the level of action and adventure that I loved in Susan May Warren’s Montana Fire series, which is one of my favorites of hers, and added in what has become a favorite trope of mine…celebrity romance. And these two characters definitely connected with lots of chemistry.
Spenser and Emily ended up being a great fit for each other. I loved seeing the way they connected and the way their hearts were drawn to each other. But what happens if Spenser, who has had stalker problems in the past, discovers that Emily is a bigger fan than she let on? Will it change anything between them?
I wasn’t ready for this book to end and wished it had included an epilogue. However, I do like that the books in this series are being released very close to each other, so I am happy that I won’t have to wait long to jump into the next story!

I absolutely love the start to the Chasing Fire: Montana series. Flashpoint is rookie firefighter Emily Micah and Hollywood star Spenser Storm's story. I loved the chemistry between the two and enjoyed seeing some familiar characters from Warren's previous series.
Emily, uncertain about what she wants to do, has PTSD from what happened to her as a kid and has to learn about faith and fear. Spenser is struggling what to do future wise and career-wise as a Hollywood star.
Flashpoint hooked me straight in from the start and didn't let go. Packed with non-stop action, danger, and gold nuggets of wisdom and faith, this romantic suspense story will not leave you disappointed.

Flashpoint by Susan May Warren is a quick read. I finished the entire book in about 3 hours. The plot moves quickly with the action of filming a movie. Fire starts for the purpose of the film, but then turns into something more sinister. I love a good mystery, so it was nice to see this in the storyline. The romance is a little too fast for me. Even the characters notice how fast they fall for each other, and question if their feelings were actually real or not. Warren does leave a little teaser at the end of the plot that probably will lead into the next story in this series. The spiritual aspects of the plot are a part of the character’s character but not any preaching at the readers. The concept of the story is unique and different. I read A LOT, and I don’t believe I have read a story like this one. Since the story’s main thread is not about the mystery, the climactic ending is more on par with the stunt actor of the hero coming to the rescue of the heroine. Overall, Flashpoint by Susan May Warren is a typical Warren novel with plenty of rescue moments, deep emotions, and resilient characters.

Determined to prove herself as a part of the fire Hot Shot team, Emily Micah is given the role of protecting the set for a movie that has pyrotechnics. It seems easy, right? It is, until a building catches fire and Emily has to actor, Spencer Storm, and the boy star, Bucky. What I thought was a lot of fun was that Emily is a super fan of Spencer Storm. Imagine rescuing someone who you have followed their acting career and are one of his top fans!
I enjoyed the romance that takes place between Emily and Spence and the way they got past the glamor and glitz to the people they truly were. There are exciting and dangerous scenes throughout the story that will keep you turning the pages.
If you enjoy romantic suspense that has a faith thread in it, check out this book. I am excited to read more in this series since this is book 1 in Chasing Fire: Montana collection.

I am so thrilled for this new series! I’m excited as I love both of these Christian Romance authors and I anticipate seeing beloved characters return and high stakes suspense, danger, and intensity woven in with faith, romance, family, and friends.

This book was everything that I was hoping for and more. I forgot that, as series continue to build, our little kids grow up! This was a great celebrity romance. I loved the natural suspense aspects with fire. There were so many characters that I just know this series is going to be above and beyond. I had an extremely hard time leaving this book behind to go back to real life. I may have taken the book with me everywhere I went for the rest of the day to sneak in a minute of reading here and there. 😉

I loved, loved, loved the theme of faith over fear. That has been a highlight and mantra of my life for over 5 1/2 years and I just adore it. There were so many good lessons within these pages. So much real life. A small town. Wildfire. A movie set and celebrities. Family. Fears. Realizing things about yourself. PTSD. Trauma. And so much more.
The only downside? Now I have to wait for the next book to release.

Wow, Susan May Warren has the most amazing imagination ever – and it shows up in a big way in her latest novel Flashpoint! – and that’s exactly what you get when you combine the entertainment industry, a novice firefighter, and an arsonist with a mega grudge.
I love the way that Warren combines fun characters with deep lessons and nonstop action. Emily and Spencer are both trying to move on from the trauma of their past, but their current troubles keep throwing it all back in their face. I loved catching up with Emily Micah who I first met as a little girl in my first ever novel by Susan May Warren. I also met and loved Conner in that story. There was also some other previously met and loved characters who made an appearance.
But if you have not read that book or any other Susan May Warren books, you won’t be lost since the author provides a high-level summary of what happened.
This was a fast-paced suspense which combined fire action, cowboy feels and some movie making and movie stars. I also enjoyed the strong faith elements.
I enjoyed the connection readers could clearly see between Emily and Spenser and how they both were trying to figure their next step on their journey in life.
The twists and turns kept me guessing and holding my breath right till the end.
I am glad each book in this series will be released three weeks apart, since I can’t wait to head back to see more of the hotshot team.

Exciting and suspenseful with humorous and heartwarming moments. My first copy had a publishing issue where about 20 pages in the last few chapters were not printed! I was relived when my replacement copy arrived with all the pages! 😂

This was my first time reading Susan May Warren, and it was a nice, quick read for me in a reading slump. I’m not a big romance fan, so the focus on romance was more than I was in the mood for, but if you love romance, then this will be right up your alley!

I had a hard time keeping all the names straight in this book. I can appreciate the appearance of characters from past books because I’ve read a lot of hers, but I think this one had too many cameos and it just confused me.

This start to a new series was sizzling! (Pun intended 😉) and leaves me wanting more! I was genuinely surprised when I got to the last page. I did not want the story to end. I fell in love with the characters from the first introduction and could relate to their struggle to choose faith over fear. Two of my favorite authors teamed up for this book and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book and author. (I received an ARC copy from the publisher.)

When she's assigned to oversee a movie set and prevent their special effects from setting the entire landscape on fire, it feels like she's being benched. And spending time with movie star Spenser is at once a blessing and a curse. Spenser is trying to get back into film making after an unpleasant incident, but one thing after another keeps going wrong, and some days only the chance to spend time with Emily keeps him going. But Emily harbours a secret of her own that could destroy their new-found relationship...
This was less intense than Susan May Warren's books often are, and I don't know whether to say I enjoyed it anyway, or I enjoyed it because of that! Either way, I did really enjoy it. It's well written (goes without saying) and has characters I cared about with interesting back-stories and baggage to deal with, as well as suspense, a faith thread, and a satisfying ending. I loved getting to know both Emily and Spenser, and watching them get to know each other, face the problems around them and in their pasts, and get the happy ending they deserved. I particularly liked seeing her come to terms with her relationship with her dad (and would have liked to have seen that explored a bit further). I'm looking forward to the rest of the series already! Recommended.

Four stars! Why only 4? Because I wanted it to be longer. And yet, while this book was short it was still so good! Hence, 4 stars. I loved that there were characters from Susan May Warrens other series. I always enjoy seeing “old friends” in her books.
Emily Micah (She grew up!) is a Hotshot. She's been through a lot in her life and has fought back the PTSD with lots of therapy. She may be new to being a Hotshot but she wants to prove she can make it. To her dad, to her uncle and to herself.
Spenser Storm is trying to make a comeback in Hollywood. And he has a lot of distance to cover to get that comeback he wants. But wait, does he really want it?
Emily and Micah meet and sparks fly immediately. And not just the real fires that keep happening during the shooting of the movie Spenser is co-starring in. She's a huge fan of his but tries to play it cool. But things definitely heat up between them and in all the action scenes in and out of the movie!
I fully enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the rest of the series.

If you have read the Marshall Family sage, Montana Fire, Alaska One Rescue, etc from SMW then you will be excited to see this storyline. Spenser and Emily have both been through a lot. They both want to find a place to belong. I love how well theses two get each other.

Flashpoint is the first in a new series, Chasing Fire: Montana by Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips.
Living in Montana myself, I adore reading stories that are set here. Though the town is fictional, I feel like I would love a chance to visit! This one is short and sweet and perfect for reading in an afternoon or two.
This was a pretty fast paced novel, with a little bit of suspense, a good amount of (clean) romance, and a lot of adventure! Spenser and Emily make a great pair and I’m hoping to see some cameos in future books in the series.
I recommend this to anyone who likes romantic suspense, or just a really good story with some great lessons and inspiring characters.

Oh so patronizing. Woman needs saving and to listen to the men in her life, and God. Yup about halfway through, faith and praying and evangelizing. I was invested in Emily and her trauma responses so I finished it but I was disgusted to have to fast forward through some “Jesus take the wheel” decision making and Emily needing a man to show her the way.
Basically a Christian story housed in the shell of a romance novel. Went so far as the main character comparing herself to Jesus. G rated Romance. 1 out of 10. Do not recommend.

I’ll be honest—this is not the kind of book I usually reach for, and after reading Flashpoint, I don’t think I’ll be diving into this series or genre again. But that said, I’m genuinely glad I gave it a chance. It turned out to be a surprisingly engaging read, and even though it didn’t turn me into a romantic suspense fan, I can respect the craft and heart that went into it.
The story centers around a team of smokejumpers in Montana, mixing high-stakes action with deeply personal character arcs and a touch of romance. Susan May Warren writes with a lot of emotion, and she clearly cares about her characters. The leads have believable chemistry and complicated backstories, and even the side characters felt like real people with histories and motivations. The firefighting setting was also unique and well-drawn—it gave the book an intense, urgent backdrop that made it easy to stay hooked.
One thing I appreciated was how the emotional beats were balanced with the action. The book touches on themes like past trauma, redemption, and second chances, without feeling overly preachy or dramatic. While faith-based fiction isn’t usually my thing, I felt the religious elements were handled in a way that added to the characters’ journeys rather than overwhelming the story.
Still, even with all its strengths, I just didn’t connect with the genre in a lasting way. That’s not a knock on the writing—it’s more about personal taste. I can absolutely see why this series has its fanbase, and for readers who enjoy clean romance, suspense, and emotional depth with a spiritual angle, this is a strong starting point.
In the end, Flashpoint surprised me. I may never return to the series, but I’m glad I stepped outside my comfort zone to try something new. Sometimes it’s worth taking that chance—even if it just reminds you what you do (or don’t) want to read more of.

This is a treat for this new series that hooked me in from the first pages. Dynamic characters and a mysterious plotline will keep your nose stuck into this book until you finish it.
Hollywood has come to town as they film The Drifters. This means that Hollywood royalty has come to town in the person of Spenser Storm. Emily Micah adores Spenser and has adored him for many years. She is excited to be a part of the fire team on site in case of an emergency. When she actually gets to have a conversation with Spenser, she is beyond excited. Emily is the newest member of the Jude County Hotshots Wildfire team who is trying to prove her worth. After an accident on the set, her superior officer assigns her to stay on the set. She does not want to be a rabid fan, so she decides to center her attention on her job. However, the chemistry between Emily and Spenser is quite evident from the first time they meet.
Emily and Spenser both have some past trauma in their lives which has affected them in their present circumstances. I really liked Spenser. He was a Hollywood heartthrob, but he was also down to earth. He cared about those around him. Emily is a hero in her own right. She survived a childhood trauma which has left her with PTSD, but she has surged forward in her life in order to live her life to its fullest. This story was full of action, suspense and intrigue, but it also had a message that you should choose faith over fear in all circumstances. The inspirational message was spot on as these characters learn to trust and reexamine their lives, as they learn the lesson of choosing faith over fear. I look forward to the coming books in this series.

Flashpoint is an amazing start to a new suspense series that you’re going to love from one of my favorite authors! I have devoured all her other series and was eager to start this one. And see an old friend! Love having characters from previous series show up for a small cameo here and there. Makes my day to see them again.
This book follows actor Spenser Storm. He’s had his share of fame but also his share of struggles and tragedy. He’s on a new set and things keep going wrong. A fire on set is just part of it. What if someone is out to sabotage the movie? Or is something else going on? Plus there’s the cute firefighter. Is she really who she seems to be? Just a great person with no ulterior motives?
Emily is a rookie with this firefighting team. It’s not her first time being in danger though. She has ghosts of her past that still haunt her. Are they making her more reckless than she should be?
I loved meeting Emily and Spenser. They’re both amazing and well-written characters who I think I would totally get along with. But Emily has a problem with not disclosing some things that Spenser needs to know. Will he find out? And if he does will he understand? Meanwhile what about the problems on set?
I loved watching both characters grow and find their paths throughout the novel. It’s definitely an amazing start to a new series and I will be waiting for the rest to come so I can devour them as well.

This book is an action packed and great intro into a new series of books that are also connected to characters from previous series by both Susan May Warren and Lisa Phillips. I had no trouble jumping in and enjoying this one, you don’t need to have read any of the others.
The plot moves quickly with the action of filming a movie. Fire starts for the purpose of the film, but then turns into something more sinister. I love a good mystery, so it was nice to see this in the storyline. The romance is a little too fast, but the characters notice how fast they fall for each other, and question if their feelings were actually real or not. Which works great with the story line.
This book is contemporary and full of suspense, mystery, strong characters, faith filled, healing, they truly see each other, heroism, intrigue, and some fandom! The spiritual aspects of the plot are a part of the character’s character but not any preaching at the readers.

Flashpoint certainly kept the pages turning, including between 0400 and 0500 when I just needed to finish the story so I knew how it ended. Fiddle. That was a quick and gripping read.
The basic premise has rookie firefighter Emily trying to prove herself to the hotshot team she’s joined. Instead, her quick thinking in an emergency sees her drafted to supervise special effects on a nearby movie set. The lead actor is troubled star Spenser Storm who’s trying to make a comeback after being stalked by a crazed fan. What he doesn’t know is that Emily used to be a major member of his fan club.
I always love how readable and engaging books by Susan May Warren are. Her characters are relatable, even if they live very different lives to me. The chemistry between these two sizzles almost as much as the fire that keeps smoldering around them. Both had definitely places for their characters to grow and mature and the issues they faced was deftly handled. I especially appreciated a twist toward the end that I didn’t seen coming.
