This book is a candid, often humorous, and quietly moving account of Yasuko Mitsuura’s journey from Japan to Canada—and eventually to Colombia to visit a new friend she met while studying abroad. Mitsuura, a well-known figure in Japan, writes without pretense about her struggles, small victories, awkward moments, and emotional ups and downs along the way.

What I found especially compelling was how she reflects on her long career in the entertainment industry. Her decision to study abroad wasn't just a whim—it came from a painful realization that what people saw in her as a "celebrity" didn’t match how she saw herself. Though she never delves into it too deeply, you get the sense that this was a deeply disillusioning experience. Yet, the tone of the book never turns bitter or overly serious. Instead, it's filled with humor, warmth, and a sense of hope.

Mitsuura’s perspective is also refreshingly different from typical study abroad stories. She’s 50 and she struggles with basic tech skills and English. But she keeps going—getting frustrated, encouraged by kindness from others, learning from her many encounters, and shedding a few tears along the way. Her honesty and resilience are quietly inspiring.
