Forget Me Not

Rate this book
"I’ve told myself a million times over the years that I’m past my feelings for Willow Austin. But I’m a filthy liar and this moment is proof."

Willow Austin thought she had it all: an amazing family, the opportunity to get out of the tiny town she grew up in, and the chance to travel the world with the love of her life.

But tragedy struck and her fairytale came crashing down.

Ten years later, Willow's back in Kauri Creek, finding herself crossing paths with Hunter Woods - her childhood best friend and the boy that broke her heart a decade ago, except he's all man now. With his brooding eyes and well-fitting jeans, he's hard to miss.

When Hunter needs her help, Willow is forced to spend time with him, breaking the rules that have kept her heart safe for so many years. Despite the pain of the past, they fall back into their friendship, which quickly brings all the old feelings to the surface. But ten years is a long time and priorities have changed.

While loving each other is as easy as breathing, it's fitting their dreams together that will really test their hearts.

A spicy childhood friends to lovers, second chance romance. Forget Me Not features sexy text banter, a tension-filled slow burn and a brooding mechanic who only smiles for her.

**ARC Review**

“Forget Me Not”? Babe, I could never. Not with scenes that had me questioning if I needed a cigarette, a cold shower, or a priest.

This book? Fast, filthy, and full of emotional whiplash—in the best way possible. I’ve read the other books in this series, but Willow and Hunter? THEY OWN ME. Grumpy x sunshine? Yes. Second-chance lovers with unfinished business and unresolved tension thick enough to cut with a chainsaw? HELL YES.

Hunter is the kind of broody that makes you want to argue just so he’ll shut you up with his mouth. And Willow? Soft on the outside, but lowkey feral when it counts. A queen.

Now let’s talk spice. The scenes? Were not just spicy. They were “lose your dignity and maybe your voice” level of spicy. I had to pause mid-chapter and look around like someone was going to call me out for reading filth in public. And honestly? I would’ve deserved it.

And the interconnectedness with the rest of the series? It’s giving messy, meddling found family—but like, hot. I feel like I know these people. Like I’ve been emotionally compromised by an entire fictional friend group and I want IN. Someone hand me a matching T-shirt and a cocktail because I am READY to join this horny little universe.

Final verdict?
Hunter can absolutely forget me not—and then remember me again. Repeatedly. Against a wall. 😏

ARC REVIEW

If Elle writes it and it's a small town, cowboy vibes romance book you best believe I'm reading it.

This childhood friends to lovers, second chance romance is everything I could want and more.

Our main characters are reunited and the connection is undeniable, the push/pull of will they won't they is enough to leave a hopeless romantic crying, screaming, throwing up at the angst. The reason for their initial separation is also heartbreaking but eventually love conquers all and they find their way back to each other.

Yes please! Sign me up for all the small town cowboys Elle 🥰

Did I see written by a kiwi author and instantly be like yep, I wana read that? Yes, yes I did! It is always so much fun discovering kiwi authors books. This is the first book I've read by Elle Ashwell and I definitely enjoyed it.

A sweet yet sexy, small town, second chance, childhood friends to lovers book that was full of emotion, grief, yearning, love, angst, tension and forgiveness. The connection Willow & Hunter had was insane and it was so obvious to see that they meant so much to each other and that they always held each other in their hearts, no matter how many years had passed. The spice was spicing in this one too. There was so much teasing and foreplay between these two that you just knew once they got their hands on each other it would end up being hot 🔥

This book was fast paced but had plenty packed into it. It touched quite heavily on the subject of grief after the loss of a parent or parents and how much your life can shift and change after that loss. But there were also so many sweet family moments in this one too. I love that Hunter got the push he needed from his brother to go after what he wanted after spending so many years making his life about him. It was a real 360 moment.

I definitely enjoged this book and think I might have to go back and read the first two books sometime so I can see how those other relationships came to be. Overall this was a 4 ⭐️ read for me.

What a joy it was to be back in Kauri Creek with some of my favourite characters! This is such a great NZ romance series, and I was so happy to receive an ARC 💕

Willow Austin left Kauri Creek at 18 for Auckland. 10 years later she’s back after breaking up with her boyfriend and is at a bit of a loss of where to go next. Hunter Woods was meant to leave with Willow but tragedy struck his family and he stayed to take care of his younger brother Flynn. He’s never got over Willow though and their friendship turned brief romance. They had so many plans together that never happened, but maybe with Willow back they can have their second chance.

I love a good second chance romance, especially when it’s based on childhood friendship and this was fantastic! It was clear to everyone that Willow and Hunter were meant to be together, except it took them a while to admit it lol. Their chemistry was so good, and the spice was 11/10 - something I find isn’t always that great in second chance romance. I was fully invested in the relationships not only between Willow and Hunter, but between Hunter and his brother and Willow and her wider family. If you haven’t read the other two books in this series I would recommend doing so and then getting your hands on this when it launches on 6/8! Cannot wait to see what’s next for this series 🥰

This book was an instant favorite comfort book - despite having some serious themes, it wrapped me in a big hug.

So cozy and familiar as a fellow Kiwi, I loved finding all the small pieces of home like onion soup dip, mince pies on smoko breaks, red bands and beanies instead of cowboy boots.

Small town vibes
Found family
Second chance romance of childhood friends
Excellent banter
Cookies for breakfast

The writing was great. Plot was fast paced and kept moving every chapter. Characters were down-to-earth, grounded, flawed, charming, and relatable. Hunter was giving me Darcy vibes (Pride & Prejudice) with his "polite, but detached" personality, quote from the mouth of the horse himself. And the tension was soooo hot, I mean the ice cream scene was so intense! Also Hunter's nickname for Willow is so purrfect ;)
Appreciated that this romance novel also tackled the unimaginable grief of parents passing unexpectedly.

This was my first book by NZ Indie author Elle Ashwell, and I absolutely loved it.

this follows the relationship between Hunter and Willow, who were bestfriends until they weren't.

Willow leaves her small town for city life, leaving family and Hunter behind. she returns 10 years later. Can Willow and Hunter repair their friendship, will it evolve, or will she return to her city life.

well written has those moments of lol, tears, and wanting to shout at the book, nice bits of spice too. I'm definitely going to read books 1 and 2 from this series.

4.5 stars!!

Forget Me Not is set in set in Kauri Creek, a small town in Aoteroa NZ. It has all the charm of small town romance and the close knit families created there.

I loved Willow and Hunter together. It can be hit and miss with second chance romances but this one flowed smoothly and quickly, and I only wanted to yell at them to get therapy a few times haha.

It was clear from the beginning that they were made for each other and I’m so glad Hunter pulled his head out of his butt. Each of them had a moment of vulnerability but thankfully it worked out for the best.

One of the things I love most about interconnected standalone series is the return of characters from previous books, and hints of who is still to come. There were some hints dropped for the next book that I’m excited to see and left me wondering how soon is too soon to ask for its release date (nevermind that this book isn’t even out yet) hahaha

Thank you to Elle for sending me an early copy. I’m so glad I discovered your work!

Content warning: grief from loss of parents (historical), anxiety over future potential loss, toxic ex-partner

Thank you to the author for a digital copy to review. All thoughts are my own.

After loving book two in the Wildflower Ridge series so much (it's one of my favourite romances of 2025, and my favourite by this author), I knew it would be a hard act to follow that story. Coupled with the fact that the author warned me about the level of spice in this book, I knew I would coast through this book pleased to get the opportunity to read more in this world, loving pockets of moments with the new character focus and inserts from the other established characters, but not loving it as much as others in the series. And I think that's a realistic approach. Not every book is going to have the tropes or storyline that tugs at your heart, and in the case of Forget Me Not, this book fell into the category of being nothing new to me as a reader. Friends to lovers is always sweet, but second-chance romance often is a hit or miss with me, mostly because it's always similarly constructed. So if you love second-chance stories, I think you'll love Hunter and Willow's story. For me, I could see many opportunities where these adults could have approached the other with more direct conversations and addressed their feelings much sooner than they did. Equally though, I feel both Hunter's and Willow's lives somewhat halted over the past ten years whilst apart, and their juvenile approaches to the flirty teasing and talking out their feelings made sense - the last time they did that they were teenagers and they're picking back up from there.

This book is Ashwell's spiciest, and I am not a huge fan of prolonged smut scenes. This is a personal opinion, and Hunter and Willow's romantic intimacy suits them as they're both constantly horny for each other, and it does come after talking things out, which I appreciated. What made it frustrating was being immediately followed by the final obstacle and really dramatically delivered right after the climax of their coming together. Thankfully, it's resolved quickly and maturely, and whilst there was a rush to conclude, it ends quite sweetly, albeit with one of my least appreciated tropes. I wasn't as convinced in this couple as I have with the others in the series. I know they had history and a natural connection, but it would have been nice to have that be shown or delivered a little more deeply.

Overall, I'm still invested in finding out what happens next in book four, and holding out for happy romantic stories for two more characters I've come to appreciate in this series.

"Forget Me Not"

Wildflower Ridge #3

by Elle Ashwell

I have been thinking and I can't remember the last book that had me and my full attention in the FIRST line.

Willow and Hunter both drive us, readers, to believe in "forever". In catching the love of our lives and never let go. In being there for "our person".

I have a palpable sensation that this book was meant to improve our senses, our imagination, our ability to be voyeurs of these characters.

I will never, ever, ever look at a wall the same way. Witch wall? Does it matter? No.
Because I mean, those 2 scenes in those walls... Jesus, Elle, Jesus.

Forget me not deserves to be savored and devoured, both in same equal measures.

It was my first book from this author but I know for sure it will not be the last.
And it was also my first book set in New Zealand.

Thank you to the author for this AMAZING ARC. It will stay in my favorite-favorites.

---

some my favorite quotes:

I can't move. I can't breathe. I can't think anything except that this is the hottest thing I've seen in my life.

She tastes exactly the same as she did the first time I kissed her: like magic and happiness and all of my dreams come true.

I want to devour her.

"I've waited ten years, I'm not going to rush this."

She said she wants everything, but in what context? Does she want everything as in a life together, or everything as in she wants me to f*ck her every way I know how?
Either way, the second one is happening.

"You're such a f*cking tease."

Now isn't the time to declare my lifelong, never wavering, complete and utter devotion to her.

considering it's taken Willow and I two weeks and ten years to get back here.

"You'll never have to be lonely again."

It's utter f*cking perfection.
It's magic and happiness and all of my dreams coming true.

"You've always been my girl, even when neither of us could see it. And all these years, I've always been yours, no matter what I said when I was young and stupid. Of course I was waiting for you. There's never been anyone else."

"God, I f*cking love you, Willow."
"I love you too, Hunter."

Willow Austin once dreamed of a life filled with love, travel, and adventure until tragedy shattered everything. A decade later, she’s back in her small hometown of Kauri Creek, where she unexpectedly reunites with Hunter Woods, her childhood best friend and first love, who also broke her heart. Now a rugged, brooding man, Hunter is impossible to ignore. When circumstances force them to spend time together, old feelings resurface, and their deep bond rekindles. But with ten years of change between them, they must face the question: can love survive when their dreams no longer align?

I really enjoyed this series, and I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy from the author as well as a signed preorder, which made the experience even more special.
The Wildflower Ridge series is one of my favourite small-town romances. It’s set in New Zealand and written by a New Zealand author, which I absolutely adore. The tropes in this book were so good: small town, friends to lovers, NZ-based, grumpy x sunshine, second chance, found family, always been her, yearning.
Physically, this book is absolutely stunning. The cover is beautifully designed and just gorgeous to look at

The spice was so good, and Hunter’s yearning for Willow came through in every interaction. The way his grief was shown gradually throughout the book really added depth to his character. I remembered reading about their parents from Flynn’s side in a previous book, but seeing Hunter’s perspective was powerful. I loved how, even after making all those plans with Willow in their past, he still put Flynn first. Seeing who he is now in the future made his arc even more interesting.
As usual, Elle absolutely nails the found family aspect. It truly feels like they’re all one big family, and she writes it so perfectly that you feel like you’re part of it too. I also really enjoyed the inclusion of the text messages throughout the book, they added something fun and personal to the story

This book was incredible. It had darker themes, but they were handled so well. The romance and spice were to die for, and the characters have easily become some of my all-time favourites. The name is right, I definitely won’t be forgetting this book anytime soon!

Childhood best friends, second chance romance? YES PLEASE. Hunter is an absolute grump when we have met him in previous books and finally being in his head and truly understanding why his life took the direction it did and why the way he is. There were so many times I wanted to tear up and just pull Hunter into my arms and give him a massive cuddle. He may be big and scary looking but he truly is a softie. The way he lights up around Willow is so beautiful to see.

Watching him interact with Sadie throughout this novel was actually hilarious and had me laughing out loud multiple times.

Willow has had a tough time and seeing how she has finally gotten the courage to end a toxic relationship and finally allow herself to be open and honest about what she wants from her life was really inspiring and beautiful to watch. I love how she wasn’t taking any of Hunter’s shit and not letting him do his usual running away from issues. She took charge and made him see that she wasn’t fucking around.

I loved the naughty text messages they used to tease one another it made the tension between them 10 times hotter and had me so excited to finally get to the BIG EVENT.

I think Willow and Hunter are my favourite couple to date. I love everything about them separately and together.

Willow & Hunter.

Willow comes back home after leaving. Hunter never left. Circumstances made it so he didn't feel it was right to leave home. Forget Me Not is a story of a second chance couple and a MMC who has a hard time getting out of his own way because of the expectations he has set for himself. & what his life looks like and what he wanted it to look like aren't possible.. or is it? His brother is now grown with a family of his own. & the love of his life who he left leave before is back in town.

Willow's life has crashed down & she ran home. Home is where everything is safe. Willow has successfully avoided Hunter for years. Well, they can't really avoid each other for much longer because of the engagement party looming.

This heartfelt story ends happily after a little conflict. If you're in the market for a small town romance with two characters who have sound family values, a love that lasted even after all this time, and a HEA to melt your heart then this needs to be on your TBR.

Thank you to the author for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book hits all the notes of small town cozy vibes with a second chance where the MMC needs to stake his claim on his woman before she's gone forever.

This was the first book I'd read by Elle Ashwell, and I must say, it was so nice to read a romance that's set in Aotearoa New Zealand and it's just so authentically Kiwi.

The story follows Willow, returning home from the big city for a spell after breaking it off with her almost-fiance. She's feeling a little lost and not really sure what her future plans will be. Her timing means she's arrived right before a party happening at her families farm that weekend, and one of the guests is Hunter. Hunter had been Willows' best friend all through childhood until they were 18. After finally declaring their love for each other one night, tragedy struck, and everything changed.

But did their feelings?

Ten years on, and there's still an undeniable spark. Flirty texts. Intense looks. Electric touches. And falling back into the comfortable banter is just so easy. There's longing, tension, grief, forgiveness, and some nice spice.

Forget Me Not is a second chance, friends to lovers, slow burn romance set in small town Aotearoa New Zealand. It's a refreshing, low stakes, easy to read romance, and I found it a great palette cleaner after some heavier reads. I'll definitely be reading the other Wildflower Ridge books soon!

Thank you so much to Elle Ashwell for the ARC.

"You’ve always been my girl, even when neither of us could see it. And all these years, I’ve always been yours, no matter what I said when I was young and stupid. Of course I was waiting for you. There’s never been anyone else."

I was lucky to receive an ARC of Elle Ashwell's newest book, Forget Me Not (book three in the Wildflower Ridge Series). It follows the story of Willow and Hunter.

I loved getting to be back in the Wildflower Ridge world!

I've not so patiently been waiting to read Willow and Hunter's story since they caught my attention in In Full Bloom and Coming Up Roses. I've been curious to learn more about them and their backstory ever since.

I adored Willow and Hunter's story and thought they were perfect together.

I enjoyed learning more about them and what happened in the past. Seeing them both finally get their second chance at love just melted my heart.

I loved the found family aspect in the book. The bond between Katie, Dallas, Sadie, Violet, Olivia, Abi, Flynn, Willow, and Hunter is everything. Everyone deserves to have someone like them in their lives.

I can not wait to read the next book in the Wildflower Ridge Series!

Thank you so much to Elle Ashwell for this ARC🤍

I really wanted to love this story. New to me author. Set in small town New Zealand. I was excited to read this story.

Hunter and Willow's story starts so well. I love a second chance romance and you could feel the pining, the chemistry they had as they got to know each other again. I thoroughly enjoyed their initial encounters as they re-established a connection.

I love steamy scenes which have purpose and are balanced with plot. The middle 50% of the story seemed dominated by the steamy scenes - constant edging and foreplay. This led to the character development being minimal. Both Hunter and Willow were having issues with their jobs. Hunter seeking advice from Willow was the motivation for two of their initial meetings - yet they never discussed the issues. Neither of their employment storylines were discussed or developed. Neither of their characters developed as individuals. This made the conflict at the third act feel completely out of the blue.

I appreciate that not every character is going to love a small town. I thoroughly disliked when both Willow, and Hunter's brother, referred to Kauri Creek as a sh!thole. For me it created a sour note to end the book on.

This is a 4.5 star review.
I was lucky to receive an arc from the author for this very sweet second chance romance set in New Zealand. Whilst this is book three, it can be read as a standalone. I liked it so much I’m going to be reading the other books in this series.

Willow and Hunter were best friends turned childhood sweethearts, and with their lives together planned, tragedy struck, leaving Hunter behind at home and Willow heading off to university alone.

Years later Willow is back, and everyone can see how they were meant for each other, if they could just get over themselves. The interconnected family and friends play a big part in this story. I followed along easily, not knowing their back stories, though I am now VERY curious about them (hence, me wanting to read the other books).

I love the small town of Kauri Creek, the fictionalised town the story is set. It feels so real, says the girl ( me, lolz) who lives in small town New Zealand.

Two of my favourite tropes are small towns and second chance romance, so this really hit the mark for me.

This was such a fun read as a fellow Kiwi, I loved all the little mentions that I recognised, as well as known city and town names, including Auckland. And I loved that it had such small-town cowboy vibes.

Our FMC, Willow, returns to her childhood home on a farm in Kauri Creek after a breakup. She's smart, strong, and sweet.

Our MMC, Hunter, is a broody, quiet mechanic who never left their small town, staying back after his parents died to raise his younger brother.

I felt that the plot was paced well, and the characters, including all the side characters, were described well, and I felt invested in them. The tension between the MMC and FMC was what made the story so enjoyable.

Themes: slow-burn romance, soulmates, small-town romance

Forget Me Not is a quick read and can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone (which I loved!). Even though this was my first time meeting some of the side characters, the story still made complete sense.

Willow and Hunter grew up together in the small town of Kauri Creek. Just when they finally confess their love as teenagers, tragedy strikes and their fairytale romance is torn apart.

Ten years later, Willow returns to her hometown—hoping to rediscover herself, not Hunter. But once they cross paths again, it’s like two firecrackers colliding: sparks, fireworks, and yes, plenty of spice (you’ve been warned!).

Although it’s a slower-paced story, the progression of their relationship felt natural and realistic—like something that could truly happen to ordinary people.

Second chance slow burn

Willow and Hunter's relationship underwent a beautiful transformation, from a strong foundation of friendship to a romantic partnership. Their reconnection years later marked a fresh start as friends, and their undeniable chemistry made their eventual union seem almost inevitable. As they opened up and became vulnerable, they achieved a deeply fulfilling relationship. I was excited to immerse myself in their world, courtesy of an advance review copy. The narrative was expertly woven, with vivid descriptions of Wildflower Ridge that were especially captivating. The authentic Kiwi elements, including colloquial expressions and scenic descriptions, added depth and nuance to the story. I absolutely adore the book cover 😍

This was such a sweet small-town romance, and it also happened to be my first read set in New Zealand. The setting felt cozy and charming, and I loved getting a glimpse of Kiwi life through the characters.

Willow and Hunter had amazing chemistry right from the start. Their playful banter kept things fun and light, while the steamy moments definitely brought the heat! I was fully invested in their connection and rooting for them the whole way through.

If you're after a feel-good romance with heart, humor, and a touch of spice — this one’s for you! 💛📚

Trigger warning – use of the pet name “kitten.” Some people might love it, but personally, it gave me major Prince Charming from Shrek vibes every time Hunter said it 😅

3.5*

I was so lucky to receive an ARC copy of this book!

I did not read the other two previous ones before starting this hence why I think it is a 3.5 rather then 4 stars but it was still a fun read I would just get confused by characters and their relationships to each other.

It is a heartwarming book about Willow and Hunter reconnecting and finding their love for each other once again.

The spice was spicing but I was getting cringed out by the pet name "kitten" so that did ruin it a bit for me but it did have two of my absolute FAVOURITE smut tropes in it.

I also love how it was set in NZ, I have never read a romance set in NZ so it was such a fun change not having to translate the words to something we would say!

I would 100% recommend this as a fun cowboy romance.

If you like drama free sweet romance books with a touch of spice, this is the book for you. This is book three of the series, but can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the other books and to be honest I’m not sure if I’ll read the others, not because they are horrible because it’s a very good book. But I need my drama 🤣🤣 I need the stalking, kidnapping, crazy ex and stuff like that 😅🥴 But I know not everyone wants that all the time, so this is a good book if you are one of those clean romance readers. I’m glad Hunter and Willow got past their past and were able to get their HEA. Oh and those who like when she walks in on him having 🍆 play time this has that 🤪🥵😉

Forget Me Not by Elle Ashwell 💙

The latest book in the Wildflower Ridge series did NOT disappoint 😍👏🏻
Second chance romance is one on my favourite tropes and Elle wrote it so beautifully in this book 🥹
Willow and Hunter are my favourite WFR couple yet! I love their banter, and how sweet (and spicy 🥵) they are together, and that they never lost their love for each other after so many years and circumstances apart 💙
And I know I’ve mentioned it every review of this series so far but I just love them being New Zealand based country romances books; all the subtle kiwi lingo and area mentions just make me smile 🥰

Ummmmmmm WOW.

This was incredible.

A second chance, first love, it’s you or no one kind of story that has you in your feels and kicking your feet when everything happens.

Willow ended her relationship with the ex boyfriend who never wanted her to have her happily ever after, just wanted his own happiness.

Hunter is the one who ended things due to family tragedy, and never moved on.

I loved this so much. I can’t wait for the next book!

I have been waiting this this book and it was so worth it! I always thought I would forever be a Daddy Dallas girl but I e absolutely fallen in love with broody grumpy Hunter! This book had me from the first page. The story line, the love between the Willow and Hunter so so raw and so beautiful. I’m usually not a fan of reading books set in my own county but this changed my mind. That’s it! I’m moving from Auckland and finding me a small town lol. I can’t wait for the next book!! But please Elle!! When does Olivia get her turn ❤️❤️

💙Childhood-friends to lovers
💙Second chance
💙Slow burn
💙Small-town romance

I couldn’t put this one down! It’s officially one of my favourite reads of this year and hands-down my favourite book in the series so far. I even considered bailing on my Friday night plans just so I wouldn’t have to stop reading.

The grumpy MMC who only smiles for her? Perfection. Pair that with a deliciously slow burn and I think I’ve just confirmed that grumpy MMC + slow burn might be my all-time favourite trope. This one was a great read from start to finish.

Willow and hunter are childhood best friends turn into lovers. They were childhood besties who took the leap for everything to end in flames. And 10 years later they reconnect and start again as just friends and …. (No spoilers). I loved seeing their friendship rebloom and Willow to find herself again and figuring out what she wanted and going for it. As well as Hunter getting it together and putting them first.
