“I command thee, stand aside!” Having survived his first decade with the nobility none the wiser to his puppet emperor act, it’s finally time for Carmine to get his payback—with interest. And as his coronation swiftly approaches, so too does the opportunity to purge the festering corruption within the Empire’s upper echelons in a single fell swoop. But as he makes his move, sword in hand and allies by his side, will his preparations prove enough? Or will his attempt to seize back political power be consigned to history, doomed to be forgotten like the names of so many too-ambitious sovereigns of ages past? “Long live the emperor,” as they say, but it’s looking dicey whether this particular emperor has another year left in him!
Not sure what is scratching the itch for me, the character development, that SATISFYING ending, the mountain of work that still needs to be done which means more volumes forthcoming, it’s all hitting the spot! And NO harem, NO girls fighting for the boy, NO un-age appropriate love interest, though not a lot of female characters, the ones that ARE there are powerful/smart in their own right. Doesn’t pass the Bechdel test, but it’s mostly a male lead wresting power from evil overlords to save the empire and no over-sexed, scantily clad female characters, so #winning as far as I am concerned.
5, I’m really enjoying this one and recommend it, stars.

The long planned trip becomes a lot more interesting that intended, letting our MC meets some unexpected allies and setting things into motion toward him taking the throne. A nice and different isekai, much like volume 1 although with a more natural ending, cloak-and-dagger were the MC's powers don't help much. A bit too much exposition at times, but not to the amount it ruined my enjoyment for the story. Looking forward to the next volume.
I enjoyed this volume very much. So much information about the emperor and his lineage. The strategies to make everyone believe his a dimwit emperor was a success. The ending of this volume was spectacular. Things are going to get livelier.
All the world building, character introductions and many tedious details in the previous volume finally paid off here. It was satisfying to see and an interesting read.
