THE BRAVEST GENERATION

Rate this book
The Bravest Generation lays out, with powerful clarity, the unique hardships Vietnam veterans faced—yet through it all, they carried themselves with remarkable bravery and dignity. They are a humble bunch for sure, but after reading through these pages, one can’t deny that The Bravest Generation rightfully lays claims as to why they are deserving of such a title.—one that finally gives Vietnam veterans the recognition they have long deserved. It finally tells the truth about what they endured, about the courage of the men and women who served in Vietnam and the struggles their families faced. Ms. Hunter validates what many of us have felt but never had the words to say. These courageous men and women deserve to be recognized and appreciated, not forgotten or minimized. They are indeed The Bravest Generation, and this book ensures that history will remember them that way. A legacy that must be preserved, honored, and shared. Our Vietnam veterans deserve to see their courage and sacrifice reflected with the respect they courageously earned. This book makes that possible. Let us stand together to ensure their rightful place in history as The Bravest Generation.

“As former President of the Tennessee State Council for the Vietnam Veterans of America, I have seen firsthand the pride, pain, and perseverance carried by our Vietnam veterans. For too long, our stories were overlooked and our sacrifices misunderstood. The Bravest Generation changes that. This book is more than a tribute; it is a vital correction to history—one that finally gives us the recognition we have long deserved.

I urge every VVA chapter across the country to ensure this book finds its way into the homes of every Vietnam veteran and their families. It is more than a story—it is a legacy. A legacy that must be preserved, honored, and shared with our children and grandchildren. Our veterans deserve to see their courage and sacrifice reflected with the respect they earned. This book makes that possible. Let us stand together to ensure our rightful place in history as The Bravest Generation.”

~Barry Rice, U.S. Army, former President of TN State Council for Vietnam Veterans of America

Please this book in no way is minimizing the greatness and courage of our World War II veterans, a.k.a. ‘The Greatest Generation.’ They have always been rightfully honored for their victory against The Axis of Evil and the spread of Naziism and fascism. Honoring one does not diminish another—just as lighting one candle from the flame of another does not take away its light, it only adds to the glow. In the same way, recognizing the unique burdens Vietnam veterans carried—challenges no generation before or since has faced—does not take away from the honor of any other veterans. Instead, it deepens our understanding, broadens our gratitude, and ensures that every warrior’s sacrifice is seen in the full light of history. Using the metrics set by our WWII heroes, reading The Bravest Generation will shine light on to the immense challenges faced by our Vietnam veterans—challenges that, in many ways, exceeded the challenges of our victorious WWII heroes. Our Vietnam veterans fought in a war without clear objectives, faced barbaric and relentless guerrilla warfare, and returned home to unconscionable hostility rather than gratitude–all of which required a different kind of courage. This book aims to state the undeniable case that the moniker The Bravest Generation is not just deserved—it is long overdue.

The author did a good job of telling her story of the hardships and struggle of the U.S. military in Vietnam. She clearly pointed out the major differences in how Vietnam vets were treated compared to those of WWII.
As a Vietnam combat veteran, I found myself in agreement with her writing. She obviously did a great deal of research to be so on-target with so many aspects of that unfortunate war and those who participated in it. I think Ms. Hunter spoke for many Vietnam vets who felt used and unappreciated. I hope this book is widely read, including by those who insist that the Vietnam war is old news and we should just put it behind us and move on. If only that was possible...
